Elodie Colt is a USA Today bestselling Paranormal & Contemporary Romance author from Austria. When she’s not busy writing books that go beyond run-of-the-mill alpha stories, she spends her time binge-watching the latest Hollywood blockbuster, playing the guitar, or hitting the gym. The fact that German is her mother tongue didn't keep her from giving her dream to publish in English a chance. Whatever she writes, she has one goal - to make you cry, laugh and wet at the same time ;)
I came across this book while doing a dystopian search on Amazon. The blurb sounded interesting and the reviews were very good.
It started well and hooked me straight away. I did struggle a little with Jordan especially early on.
It’s set in 2078. A future where cancer is rampant but a cure has been found. This cure is expensive and only available to those who can afford it. And it needs to be taken regularly along with the drinking of human blood.
The entire population has to donate blood once a month every month. Unless like Jordan you have a rare blood type and then you have to donate every week. That’s every single week for your entire life.
This was a different read and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It certainly helped that I just loved Aiden Davis.
Book opens with a first person prologue of an unknown woman in an unknown time being chased after she’s been raped, tortured, etc. Reader is left to assume she dies.
The switch from prologue to chapter one is jarring and confusing because none of ^ sounds familiar to the blurb. No clue who she is, the chaser is, or if she dies or not.
Bam, book starts in 2078 with a first person narrative. Is this the same person as the prologue? That element is so distracting … not suspenseful- distracting!
Immediately, I’m struck by overwriting, and it never ceases. Too much info about trivial matched with obscurity over points that do matter.
A cake description this long within the first two pages is the type of overwriting throughout:
“The five-inch high, rectangular chocolate cake had the shape of an officer’s uniform,complete with collar, breast pockets, and tie. The other elements around the cake, which included a Glock 66 Pro, a set of handcuffs, and a police badge, were made entirely of sugar icing. The gun itself was a masterpiece, sculpted to include the tiniest detail—with a high-resolution camera and steel hinge for a corner shot. If I hadn’t known better, I would have believed it to be exactly the one in Patrick’s holster. Whipped cream topped with blue sprinkles shaped the words, ‘The best is yet to come!’”
Why do IGF about a 1/2 page description of someone else’s cake? Oh, that’s right… I don’t!
Too many characters bombard me in the first two pages - Maggie, Patrick, Gary, Sheryl + the narrator (FMC.)
This shit jumps like a Mexican jumping bean on meth. It’s spastic word vomit from one subject to another, and there’s little to no context on WHO these people are. I HATE starting a book trying to keep up with endless names and decide if they’re important characters or not.
From a retell of a sports obsessed ex throwing beer bottles against the wall to the author’s environmental jabs at the reader…
“I still found it hard to believe that decades ago, vehicles had run on gasoline and motor oil. Oil resources had run dry after we used every reservoir to produce synthetic materials. We learned from our mistakes, though, and switched to biodegradable material. Otherwise, we would have destroyed our planet a long time ago.”
The author is talking at me, not telling me a story!
Meanwhile, some guy is giving a retirement speech about tasers, dog chases all around the FMC’s inner thoughts on completely different subjects. I need a drink for this shit show.
I feel like I’ve met up with the author version of Richard Simmons. Spastically doing jumping jacks and gyrating through way too much fluff.
BAM, Sheryl and Maggie (whoever the hell they are) and the still unknown first person narrater that I’m assuming is the FMC are discussing blood beverages being served at the party and bloodsuckers getting drunk. Huh? I feel like I’ve stepped off into like the twentieth book of a series or something. No explanation on who any of these people are, why blood is being drank like cocktails…. BUT, hey, I have a 1/2 page detailed description of a cake.
Suddenly, some weird convo about individual investigations, their law vs some other law, and her turning down a promotion because of it. It’s written so cloak and dagger… an attempt to be mysterious and suspenseful, but it comes off as reading: dkdgdmskcsjd hdudkevsud jshdkdbsg hehrhnelayd huh candy’s but gompla humpty don’t da.
Back To The Future tribute… complete with Embassies named after the DeLorean family. Huh? This author’s world building is so beyond odd.
~~~~~
FINALLY!!!! We get to where the book should have started. ^^^ All that almost made me stop reading. Roughest start to a book I think I’ve ever experienced.
Anyhoo…
Cancer destroying the population. Cure has side effects… results are people being forced by the gov to give blood and the cancer folks having to drink blood to offset the cure. The cure is expensive, but blood seems to be just like grabbing a coke. WTF?
The main cancer/blood plot is weak sauce because well… a donor could just as easily get cancer and switch roles and, with a 1/3 of the world being recipients, the math of the other 2/3 giving blood once a month doesn’t compute. It’s not some rigid system - blood is served at parties, bars, in six packs, and shit. FFS the FMC even points obesity due to blood gorging like it’s f’ing candy bars or soda pops…
Sadly, fast food was not the reason Jack weighed thrice as much as me. He merely drank too much blood. His wife had already forbidden him to consume the cheap six-pack blood bottles like water, but it didn’t keep him from having occasional sips from the unlabeled bottle I knew was stashed in his office drawer.“
In other words, this shit defies all plausibility and understanding.
There’s no dystopian separation to the blood plot point based on human nature - rich vs poor, beautiful vs ugly, evil vs good, privileged vs not privileged. Nope. It’s just hey, I got this rare blood type so the gov bosses me around and forcefully takes my blood if I’m categorized as a donor. Meanwhile, some special agency FDR is the only entity who can do anything to the blood recipients … they can get away with anything because they’re special. Media lockout - no news on crimes for public knowledge. This strict dystopian toleration gov set against no changes within society makes no sense whatsoever.
Interesting premise of cure at what cost, but the scenario just isn’t laid out in a way that would be plausible. It’s the worst plot and world building I’ve come across in a long time because the author just keeps propping up the unbelievable with more unbelievable.
In all the above, the reader finally learns that the FMC cop is the woman who was narrating the prologue. That embarks on all new set of questions. She says she’s been a donor for eight years. A cop for five years. She says she has some kind of special training and that was in the prologue, too. She says no one believed her about her rape and assault. So, how’d she go from unbelieved victim to cop? How old is this chick to have “special training” prior to eight years ago? Why has she only been giving blood for 8 years if the government is so blood thirsty? Again, the cloak and dagger BS about the basics of the FMC is distracting, not mysterious and suspenseful.
Now, the gov has gone so cancer crazy as to FORCE people to give blood for cancer treatment and accept a China-like media blackout, but we have people smoking in this same book world? Huh?
“I made my way through people drinking, smoking, laughing, shouting…” “He always had a cigarette clamped between his lips,”
But… the government can do this,..
“That bill was passed so as not to overload the population with horrible news to reduce risks of violence and keep children safe. In my opinion, they just wanted to fake a peaceful world, telling us life was better now with the Cure and disguising who knew what.”
All between the dystopian plot incongruity, we have the FMC saying and doing incongruous shit such as she likes to cover her body but chooses a strapless top lol:
Eyeing my wardrobe, I debated what to wear. I liked to cover my body and use clothes that didn’t give the men any invitation to approach me. It was damn hot, though, and I wasn’t keen on sweating my ass off in long pants. So I put on a pair of shorts, a dark red, strapless top, along with a matching scarf and some worn-down boots before heading out the door.
” I pleaded in my sweetest voice, pushing my breasts forward a little bit. I hated doing that, but it was enough to get his attention. At least I could count on my boobs. “
^ So much for her not wanting men’s attention on her body because of her past trauma.
The FMC’s cop skills suck… I’m talking freaking Nancy Drew could run circles around her. What good is it to give a fake cop name and pretend to be with the FDR agency when SHES DRIVING HER OWN CAR up to the witnesses. What good is all this when she brings evidence back to her job for examination when the results link her right back to the shit?
The inauthenticity of every aspect of this book is stringing up my pet peeves by the pinky toes; WTF kind of gangbanger says this line to a cop asking him questions:
“And the girl had a tattoo on her cleavage.”
CLEAVAGE? Have you ever heard a gangbanger say cleavage?
Got to love this one from a different witness because Tom Cruise (long dead since this book takes place decades into the future) is so very tall:
“Tall, black hair, and stubble,” the woman answered. “He looked like Tom Cruise,
Why haven’t I mentioned the MMC? Well, I’m at 24%, and he has made two brief appearances to sound like a total loser cardboard robot. “Do you come here often.” degree of lame. Finally, he shows up again to utter a few lines as he walks in on a scene where the FMC’s coworker ex tries to blackmail her for sex and she kicks his ass at work. None of that is the question the MMC asks, though. No, ‘hey you can’t kick ass at work or why do you have this evidence you shouldn’t have. No, it’s ‘hey isn’t he your ex and kick his ass harder next time.’ That’s when I just quit. This is getting worse, not better.
The main idea, which I’m assuming is cancer cure has a cost far reaching, is lost in piss poor writing, world building, and characters. This shit is a hot mess of illogical scattered, smothered, covered, and chunked nonsense.
Blurb: Her life – the system. Her job – a secret case. Her problem – sinfully hot Lieutenant Aiden Davis who watches her every step.
This story was not what I imagined after first reading the book blurb. However, it was definitely worth the night of sleep lost, because I just had to finish it asap! The female heroine is strong despite her past and grows stronger with the aid of a loving man.
Set in the year 2078, the world is finally free of Cancer thanks to Cure. There is a price for taking the Cure, those who are recipients must drink blood human from donors. The FDR – Federal Division for Recipients – was created to supply recipients with the Cure and have the rest of the populace donate blood regularly. Sergeant Jordan Lively, is made weekly donor due to her blood type being AB negative the rarest type. For Jordan the FDR is nothing but a drain on her life and job, all she wants to do is make sure the evil and scum out in the world is put behind bars where they belong. Jordan's specializes in Rape and murder cases choosing to work alone. Her past is what motivates her drive for the victims, but when Jordan's finds herself in trouble the new Lieutenant, Aiden Davis, may be the person to help her heal and fight her worst nightmare.
Overall, great new futuristic story! The concept for this novel felt like Soylent Green meets iRobot. Thinking of a world without cancer would be absolutely amazing. So on a darker note having a Cure that turns out to be a semi-villain for this novel, was a great twist. Even the whole donor and recipient thing was intriguing, especially for me since as a person with a rare blood type I would sooo not enjoy this world. Now one of my favorite features of this book was how the author approached Jordan's venture into dating Aiden. Jordan was a victim of a brutal assault (as seen in the graphic prologue) and for her to ease into having any sort of a relationship was wonderful to see, because I've read one to many books where the girl meets a guy and just hops right into bed like it's easy and in reality it takes time and trust. I also just really liked the male lead, Aiden, and his easy presence in Jordan's life, wish I had someone who just supported me so easily with my craziness. So if you're ready for a future world where the world is a balance of donors, recipients, cops, and mystery, than this story will intrigue you.
**I received a free copy & chose to post an honest review**
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
What an edge-of-the-seat ride!! This book grabbed me from the prologue and kept me in its clutches until the last word. I read almost half in a few hours and had to force myself to stop because I had to get some sleep for work the next day. I started reading again as soon as I got home the next day and didn't stop until I got to the end. This stand-alone story is THAT good.
This book has it all: tons of sexy scenes, action, mystery, and suspense as well as a fantastic plot and great characters. It also has a good bit of darkness and scenes that are hard to read, so beware if you can't handle reading brutal rape scenes. I'm not a grammar expert, but there are some editing issues such as the use of wrong words in places, but the story was so good, I'm still giving it 5 stars.
I highly recommend this to anyone 18+ who loves a good romance/suspense.
I received this copy for beta reading and I will write a review because in its early version, In Blood We Trust totally deserves it.
I intended to beta read this book for about a week because I didn't know how much time I'd have and how long it is but instead, I was so caught up in it that I read it in one sitting. Elodie Colt writes amazingly well, especially for a first book! I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading because I didn't expect to be so caught up from the beginning! Not every book has a strong start but this one did the job just right!
I am a beta reader for plot holes mainly and characters and dialogues but there aren't any holes to fill in here and everything was so perfectly done that I became desperate with myself because I couldn't give a proper feedback! I can't even write my review now because the book is so good that I am still overwhelmed and speechless! The plot and the characters are built really well. All of them have their stories and they are revealed just in the right moment! Usually, when writing about the future, there are things that are always left out and I was waiting to spot that hole but NO, there aren't any! There is nothing that is left out and everything she's written is completed and whole.
Jordan has suffered a big trauma, resulting in her being a Serjeant in the NYPD specialising in murder and rape and her spirits from her past are haunting her and then everything goes down with two big and dangerous cases, challenging her not only as a Serjeant but as a person as well. She has to overcome her fears and do her job but she also wants to get her revenge. Jordan is determined, she is strong and a very powerful character. I liked the fact that Elodie Colt never forgets about Jordan's trauma and reminds constantly that she was a victim. It wasn't easy for her to open up to Aiden and then her friend but she did it and this is the most important thing!
Aiden Davis is the new Lieutenant in the NYPD and he makes an awesome first impression so I LOVED him from the beginning. He himself has had his fair share of trouble and this has made him just the right person for Jordan. He helps her all the time and every appearance he makes is impressive and so well-written that I couldn't help but love him as well.
Their relationship is developed really well, it can be followed from the beginning and it can be seen how they get closer and closer. They have to work hard to trust each other and to learn how to work together, especially since Jordan hasn't been able to open up and rely on any men in the past 6 years. Everything between them is written in a perfect way and I just made it seem as if the book is focused mainly on them which it is not- it is equally divided by the cases, their relationship and everything else.
The reason I focused so much on the characters is because they are one of the most important things in a book for me and the fact that they are so well-developed just made my rate even higher. There is nothing better than a strong character!
The challenges they have to overcome, the effort they have to put in their relationship and then the battles, the fights- everything is amazing and I am repeating only three words as if they are the only ones I know. There is action, love, sex, fear, death and violence and this book couldn't be more perfect!
I received this as an ARC from the author. I voluntarily decided to leave a review. This is my honest review. Oh gosh this was such a good read, it was brimming full of action on every page, you could imagine life being just like this in years to come and it was scary how true to life this could be. There was some violence and sex scenes in it but I feel this made the book so much more intense than if they had been left out and added so much more to the storyline. I was pulled in to this book from the first page and read it right through until gone 3 in the morning, there was no way I was putting it down until I'd read it all! The story brings out so many emotions in you because you feel so much for Jordan, she's been through so much yet still can't trust or let go of her past. The prologue says it all and more, it had so much left unsaid and to your imagination you just had to find out what happened. She is such a strong character you feel a bond with her from the start. I've not read many futuristic books but this has something in it that's real and a different slant than the last futuristic book I read, both brought out so much in my imagination and left me wondering what if..... Aiden is the Lieutenant and he has an instant attraction to her, Jordan is sworn off men especially ones she works with but that doesn't seem to stop him from trying. Jordan refuses to be worn down no matter what her feelings, after what's happened in her past, she's kept it to herself, she can't tell anyone or they to might be in danger like she is, always looking over her shoulder and never feeling safe, it's locked away and she is scared of it resurfacing and her having to face it again she just isn't strong enough. She hates the system more than life itself having to give blood every week to help keep recipients alive, some are luckier not having to "donate" as often but with her blood being rare she has no choice. It's so unfair and she thinks the system should change, it's not a "donation" it's forced and if she doesn't turn up she'll be fined our worse her life is ruled by it, not being able to sleep in or drink alcohol the day before, her blood has to be prefect for those that need it. She hates that people are being kept alive because of the "Cure" how can it be so good if the only reason you're alive is because you drink someone else's blood? She hates seeing people drinking the blood and it makes her nauseous seeing it, not understanding how others aren't bothered by it she tries to keep her feelings to herself and only a few friends really knowing. This book had my head reeling there was no let up in the action, you were second guessing every character wondering who's side they were on, and as Jordan was you were wondering who else was involved. The characters were brilliant and there was so much detail put into the book you could see it happening in your mind's eye. God the second guessing I did not trusting anyone along with Jordan, she felt trapped and has to do this one case that was asked of her, even if it wasn't really police business the last lieutenant had passed it on to her so she would see it through, she just hoped she'd be alive to see it ending. The characters had depth to them and were "real" to me as I was reading it, crying when I couldn't hold it any longer, I felt on the edge on my chair the whole time I was reading the book, my nerves were frayed by the end but omg what a read, this is one book I will read again and again. This author is one to watch, and for her first book she did a phenomenal job. I really hope she writes this as a series. It is a stand alone but this is one that I would love it being made into a series for me to follow the characters as they grow. But that's me just hoping it carries on with it being such a brilliant read. It's a long time since I've lost it in a way I did reading this book. I was there with Jordan, the hairs on my arms were standing up, and I had goosebumps all over me reading the details of what was happening, holding my breath with everything crossed that the good guy comes out unscathed, but never really knowing until the very end who truly wins. She's done so much to the characters that they are real, you can see them in front of you and you know how Jordan's mind works by the end of the book, or you hope you do. My god if I could I'd give it ten out of five! It is in my favourite collection now. If you don't read any other book this year and you are 18+ and like action, mystery, dystopian romance type books read this one! You won't regret it I promise.
So, I had the opportunity to receive an ARC from the talented Elodie Colt and I just wanted to say thank you for the chance to review your great story. You frickin rock!
Okay, now to the review.
This book wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be, and I mean this in a positive way of course! This is first Sci-Fi Romance story I think I'ver ever read, and I think this genre just gained a new fan.
In Blood We Trust had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It started off exciting and ended just the same.
There was kind of a lull in the story where it seemed to drag, but I can only chalk that up to me being nosey and impatient. I wanted to know what was happening at all times, so when the story took a second to explain and give background, like every story should, I was like, "Fuck!" *insert eye rolls*. This is in no way reflective of the story because it is truly amazing, I'm just an impatient bitch.
In Blood We Trust is riveting and exciting and oh so frickin sexy. I loved the futuristic idea because it made me take a look at how the world is now and made me wish I was in 2078.
And Jordan and Aiden were amazing together. I was rooting for them from the moment they were introduced to each other. It was great to see their relationship develop the way it did. Jordan comes across as this badass, because she totally was, but it made it that much better to see how hard she fell for Aiden.
Overall, I loved everything about this story. It had everything! It can make you cry, laugh and wet at the same damn time. And ain't nothing wrong that!
This is definitely a must read story! So buy this book!
I love how the author creates fiction that is not absurd. This book happens in the future where technology has advanced, and everything is connected. Due to climate changes and chemicals, cancer is a dominant illness, and a particular cure was created.
The main character is a strong woman, and I love her personality. Even when she has her demons to face, she has realistic conflicts in her mind.
The male character is *wow* He is the gentle guy you love, the sexy hero that takes your breath away, and the sex God that sets it on fire!
I got a bit confused about the main topic in the book, was it the guy hunting her, was it the system and the cure or was it the murder investigation? It turns out it was all! Do that for me was a lot in a short book. Although it was a great book, it wasn’t one that took my breath away, and I couldn’t put it down, that’s why I gave 4 stars. Nonetheless, it’s a great short read with some steamy scenes, a sweet romance, a murder investigation, and some more here and there.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
My review is based on an ARC in exchange for almost being a beta reader, but unfortunately I didn't make the deadline (I'm so sorry for that). In some ways that's good though, because I was able to read it as a 'reader'.
In Blood We Trust is Elodie's first book and I'd like to stand up and give her a rapid handclap because (a) the story was original, (b) it was well written - bearing in mind English isn't Elodie's native language my God, I can't believe how well she's done and (c) the character's have a well executed story and emotional arc. I'd love to see the Jordan and Aidan go on and have a second book, but time will tell I guess.
I'm not going to go into the story because some other reviewers have done that, but if you enjoy vampire books with a definite twist, and a more intriguing storyline, download this.
It is now 3.40 am and I've not been able to put this book down. A little too much sex for my liking but it was more than made up for by what was, for me at least, a totally original story line set in dystopian world, which still has too many similarities to the world we live in. Big pharma and rich men's greed never changes.
In Blood We Trust by Elodie Colt is a great read. The book was nothing like expected and everything I could have asked for at the same time. I read it in one sitting and it was a hell of a ride.
2078 in NY. The future. A future with rigorous rules. For most diseases is now a cure avaiable. But to which price? Citicens are bound by law to donor blood. Jordan is a sergeant with th NYPD. She loathes to donor and the recipients of the blood- but she is forces to do this weekly. And there is her new lieutenant Aiden Davis. They meet and have this crazy insta-chemistry. Both hide scars and secrets. But the have to solve a mysterious, difficult and complex criminal case.
In Blood We Trust is a really really well written and great read. This book had me at the edge of my seat and I couldn´t put it down. There is drama, illness, violence, pain, but also love and closeness. 5 Stars and Thank you Elodie Colt!!
I just finished reading In Blood We Trust by Elodie Colt and I just have to say WOW!! I usally don't read books that are sat in the future but this storyline just sucked me in! This book has it ALL!!!! SEX, ACTION, MYSTERY AND it will keep you on the edge of your seat!!!! I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!!
I received an Advanced Reviewer Copy of this book for the purposes of beta-reading. I was not asked to leave a review, but definitely wanted to share my thoughts on this book.
It was fantastic. Even the early edition I read that hasn't/hadn't been edited yet was written really well. The premise of the story intrigued me, but the story itself, I can honestly say pulled me in from page one, and kept me turning the pages to see what happened next.
I felt like the futuristic aspect of this story was very realistic. It was subtle, not overdone, which helped add to the realism for me. Then there was the idea that, in the future, the cure for cancer is not without its own side effects, which turn people into virtual, real-life vampires, and not in a sci-fi kind of way. I also found it so believable the way that the agency who created the Cure kept the money coming in, so typical of that industry as we know.
Then there was the romance. My favorite part of any good story, the Romance in this book was just the right amount of build-up. It wasn't "insta-love." It took them some time to work up to the good stuff, and the good stuff was very good!
There was a good amount of depth to the characters in this book, especially the main character/heroine who we follow from start to finish. Her past and how it shaped her as a person, I felt was consistent throughout the book, and I felt like there were several things that made her very relatable. I was able to really sympathize with her and like her from the get-go. The stakes were set high immediately, and I was rooting for her to succeed from page one.
I also found the pacing of this story to be just right. There was not a single point in this story that I can remember feeling like it was lagging in any way or wanting to skim over.
Overall, this book is well worth the read. This is a book I can see myself rereading again. Very good work and well-deserving of every one of the 5 stars.
This was an amazing read. We have a story that is set slightly in the future where there is a semi-cure for cancer that has been developed. The downfall is that you need to take the "medicine" and you need to drink blood for the rest of your life One of the story lines has to do with the death of Receipiants, the ones taking the cure/blood. Also you have the story line of the heroine, Jordan who narrowly survived a horrific kidnapping. Jordan is a detective who specializes in rape/murders. The person responsible does spring back up into her life and he isn't done with her. In addition she is falling for her boss, who is one sexy hunk of a man. And based on what the Evian bad guy did to her, it has been a very very long time since she let a man get close to her. But he is one of the most patient person I've ever read about. They fit together so well. The story lines do not interfere or detract from each other. They work smoothly together. There are a few things that the H/h kept secret from each other that lead to hurt feelings but they do move past it fairly quickly and work together to solve and take care of both story lines. This was a very well written story with great character building and world building. I was very honored to have beta read this story. I so can't wait for more by this new author. I highly recommend this story.
In Blood We Trust was absolutely perfect! The story line was riveting, characters were well- developed, and there was never a dull moment in the story line. Passion, anger, lust, violence, sex, mystery, revenge, deception; this story contained it all to become a five star read for me. The connection between the hero and heroine was sublime as their love story quickly and hotly developed through the story. I found ideas in this read to be highly original and fascinating; drinking blood along with a stabilizing medicine to "cure" a critical disease. Overall, I greatly enjoyed this book as it transported me to a developing futuristic world, which was well balanced between the world we know today and the future the author depicts. The way the emotions seep through the story with each revealing situation, I found myself grow empathetic to the character's plights and victories. In conclusion, it was a great read with a happy, feel-good ending.
Set 60 years in the future, a detective story of love and injustice. A cure for cancer that acquires the need for blood to survive, detectives dealing with cases of murder. rape,and drug dealing…..The prologue throws you into quick action that grips you, brings questions, hits emotions and leaves you wanting to read more.The pace of the story is good. Love between the characters feels real as do the characters themselves. The story combines imagination and realism that is believable.
Jordan lives in 2078 where there's a cure for cancer but the side effects cause recipients to drink blood regularly. While Jordan hates the whole procedure she has the rarest blood type and needs to donate blood not only once a month like every other person but once a week. When her boss retires he hands her top secret information on 5 killings she needs to solve,little does she know that her new boss Aidan will back her up and help her. While doing her job Jordan is handed a new case, one that reminds her of her horrible past... and it seems her past is playing catch up. Can she solve this case and will she survive? Find out yourself, this book is absolutely worth reading!
A bit different from some of my usual reads. Set in the future where you have to rely on blood so you don’t die from cancer. Everyone has to donate. This follows a couple who are trying to solve murders. A must read you won’t be able to put down
Alright Now it's taken me awhile to review this book, I'm having a tad of a hard time trying to find the right words to describe my emotions with this book.... One thing i can say is WOW
this is one magnificent piece of work! Elodie took a completely different direction than the normal taboo vampires, it was like i was taking a breath of fresh air. She kept some of the old habit they have and i think that was a extremely wise decision, it leaves the vampire lover's "like myself" a chance to connect with them, in a matter of speaking.
Now im going to point out that the top photo here where it says " its just my... Medicine" THAT IS A BIG THING AND BOY WAS I SHOCKED LIKE THE WAS LIKE A SLAP TO THE FACE
I love futuristic books and this was no disappointment!! I can't believe that this is the authors FIRST book!!! This has everything you could ever want in a book, well written and developed characters, with great backgrounds. The storyline is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book! When a "cure" for cancer is found, the power the corporation who control the drug, are able to control everyone's lives, who receives the "cure", who doesn't, who answers for their criminal activity and who doesn't. Jordan life has been traumatic so far. After a sickening and brutal attack, she moves to another town to start again and try to rebuild her life, keeping her secrets close to her chest. Aiden has joined the NYPD and is her boss. He has his own secrets. When Jordan starts investigating a case, her and Aiden become closer and both will need to learn to trust each other in order to survive the storm coming their way.
I totally loved this book. This book is a futuristic book. It deals with cancer cures and how the system protects criminals because of this disease. You read about the fears and struggles of a young lady after being viciously attacked and raped. She became a Detective in the NYPD in hopes of finding her rapist, but realized that not only does she have to fight the system, now her rapist is back. She has to learn how to trust again. Her new boss Lt Aiden Davis has agreed to help her. Will she trust him enough? Will she catch her rapist. Can she beat the system? I would recommend this book to all my friends
Fantastic futuristic GEM of a story! ❤️, posted April 6, 2017
I received an Advance Reader Copy for In Blood We Trust by Elodie Colt and voluntarily reviewed this book. Sergeant Jordan Lively's past was marked by a horrific experience, which has shaped her career with the NYPD, catching murderers and rapists. Her department was just assigned ex-Marine Aiden Davis to replace the retiring Lieutenant Patrick Flint, but before saying farewell and starting his retirement, however, Patrick secretively asks her to investigate just one last case for him discreetly. When a murdered female is found in the park, it sends chills down her spine and hardens her resolve to solve this case as well. She finds herself suddenly having to balance her private life with fending off advances from a co-worker, investigating very troubling cases, and finding herself being pulled into Lieutenant Davis' very mesmerizing orbit.
This author has created a smart and freshly futuristic, yet still thoroughly practical and realistic world, where many individuals are rendered utterly enslaved by the unprecedented outcomes of a globally launched medical cure. The storyline has many creative and interesting plot layers, with detailed development of characters, paralleling the slow-burning, very sexy chemistry between Aiden and Jordan. I will definitely will keep my eyes open for all new offerings from this author!
For a debut novel, this book was amazing. It had a fresh storyline and relatable characters. It had a steady pace the whole way through while keeping you wanting to know more. I will be interested to see the next book by this author. She has gained a new fan in me.
I received an Advanced Reviewer Copy of this book for the purposes of beta-reading. I was not asked to leave a review, but definitely wanted to share my thoughts on this book.
It was fantastic. Even the early edition I read that hasn't/hadn't been edited yet was written really well. The premise of the story intrigued me, but the story itself, I can honestly say pulled me in from page one, and kept me turning the pages to see what happened next.
I felt like the futuristic aspect of this story was very realistic. It was subtle, not overdone, which helped add to the realism for me. Then there was the idea that, in the future, the cure for cancer is not without its own side effects, which turn people into virtual, real-life vampires, and not in a sci-fi kind of way. I also found it so believable the way that the agency who created the Cure kept the money coming in, so typical of that industry as we know.
Then there was the romance. My favorite part of any good story, the Romance in this book was just the right amount of build-up. It wasn't "insta-love." It took them some time to work up to the good stuff, and the good stuff was very good!
There was a good amount of depth to the characters in this book, especially the main character/heroine who we follow from start to finish. Her past and how it shaped her as a person, I felt was consistent throughout the book, and I felt like there were several things that made her very relatable. I was able to really sympathize with her and like her from the get-go. The stakes were set high immediately, and I was rooting for her to succeed from page one.
I also found the pacing of this story to be just right. There was not a single point in this story that I can remember feeling like it was lagging in any way or wanting to skim over.
Overall, this book is well worth the read. This is a book I can see myself rereading again. Very good work and well-deserving of every one of the 5 stars.
