The Scoop By now you're probably aware that the Alex Troutt thrillers, Ivy Nash thrillers, and the soon-to-be-released Ozzie Novak thrillers are all under the same Redemption Thriller Series umbrella. Why? Because, ultimately, they all connect -- Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. How? That's part of the mystery that I'm slowly unveiling throughout the Redemption Thriller Series.
Through each sub-series, characters from different books appear in the other novels. If it adds suspense, intrigue, or even a good laugh, I've included a cross-over character -- it's a lot more fun that way. Plus -- and here's the real kicker -- I'll write a final six novels that brings all of the major characters together -- Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. It will be explosive and gut-wrenching…in a way that will leave you breathless. At least that's my hope.
Starting with IN The End (Nov. 10 release), I'll be launching a new book every 2-4 weeks. IN The End will segue into the Ozzie Novak Thrillers. ON Edge (book 1), is due out on November 28. From there, it will be non-stop suspense until all six Ozzie books are released. And my editor tells me that Ozzie Novak is my best character yet.:) So, I hope you're ready for some thrilling binge-reading.

Amazon #1 Bestselling Author, #2 bestselling author on Barnes and Noble, and a Readers' Favorite Gold Medal winner.
John W. Mefford has been writing his debut novel since he first entered the work force almost thirty years ago, although he never put words on paper until 2009. Once he started writing, however, he couldn't stop. Many readers ask John from where he gets his ideas. Well, he's a veteran of the corporate rat-race, a former journalist, and he's always been an astute observer of human and social behavior. On top of that, he's really good at embellishing.
A member of International Thriller Writers, John writes novels full of electrifying suspense -- the same types of books he has loved to read since before he could shave.
Excellent story! I am so excited about these marvelous characters! This author has such wonderful way of introducing his characters in a story, right away you know exactly who they are, I feel them sitting here with me and I know just what they look like. Ozzie Novak is a 28 year old lawyer who gets hit with a boatload of problems all at once, facing his father being arrested by IRS, the collapse of the family law firm, a complete turn around by his wife, who texts him that he is out-locks changed, cards cancelled ,divorce on the horizon! During the raid to the law firm, Ozzie's Dad has a heart attack, sending him to the hospital! Ozzie is rattled to his bones as his Dad dies, unexpectedly, when there was no one watching over him. 'This was no accidental death'...Ozzie believes this and calls police to investigate. There are people following him, bullets flying and those close to Ozzie and the investigation being hurt..Enough to take your breath away, right?! A suspenseful read, I was unable to put it down! An entertaining new book in the Redemption Thriller series, with a great new friend , Ozzie Novak, who I am excited to go on further adventures with!!
I had been waiting for this book to come out, and it did not disappoint! ON Edge is the first book in the Ozzie Novak series of Redemption. This book was awesome!!! Ozzie Novak had everything going for him; he had the girl and an awesome law career at his father's law firm. All of a sudden, everything changed! His marriage is suddenly falling apart and his dad gets sick and dies after his law firm being raided by the FBI. It's all a mystery and this book takes us on his journey of finding out the truth about why his wife has distanced herself and who killed his father, as he is convinced his father's death was no accident!
I really connected with Ozzie Novak's character. He is a good guy who just wants answers! I could not put this book down. I literally read it in one evening! John Mefford is one of my favorite authors. This book was well written with a plot that keeps you engaged! If you like thrillers and mystery books, then this is a book you must read! This whole series is going to be amazing!!!
In the new edition to the Redemption Series, John W Mefford introduces lawyer, Ozzie Novak. The first person narrative with Novak is different somehow in this book from past Mefford books I have read. It takes a skilled author to write like this and pull the reader in, capture them and keep them. Mefford is able to do that with Novak. One of the things I love about reading anything in the Mefford series’ is the characters always have personable qualities. In this book, we get to meet some new characters – Ozzie’s eclectic brother, his mom, and his dad’s girlfriend, among others. Novak’s life is turning upside down, again. First, he was involved in a bombing that rocked his city, and if he can time it right seems to be the start of when his marriage started dismantling. Now, the FBI has raided the law firm that he shares with his father, mostly in name. In the middle of the raid, his father has a heart attack! Novak’s life continues to dismantle as his dad passes away and the law firm closes with proceeds divided between all the employees. Novak is not included because he doesn’t have enough tenure at the firm. His wife wants a divorce and him out of the house. He knows his dad’s death and the FBI raid are related, and he is determined to figure out what is at the core of this madness. Even with everything that is happening to him, he surges ahead to unravel the mystery. ***I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review
This is the first book in the Ozzie Novak series under the umbrella of the Redemption Thrillers Series which also includes the Alex Trout and the Ivy Nash Thrillers. Why are these series wrap under one title it is simply because they are interconnected as some of the characters cross over and appear in the other novels.
“On Edge” doesn’t disappoint it takes us a journey of finding out the truth about why Ozzie’s life suddenly fell apart after all he had everything a man could wish for: a successful law career and a happy family. Why all a sudden did his dad get sick and died, why did his marriage fell apart and what where the FBI looking for when they raided his law firm.
Mr. Mefford gave Ozzie a rough ride from page one, never letting him take a breather, one stick in the wheel after the other is thrown at him and following him trying to figure out every pieces of the puzzle was quite an exciting roller coaster ride. Ozzie skills helped him to get out of situations and how he tackled each one of them sounded quite believable. I like Ozzie he is a very likeable character.
Of course, we have plenty of action and the inevitable curve balls thrown in for good measure. Not forgetting the twists and turns and bullets flying along the way. We have a bit of everything we enjoy in a good thriller.
“On Edge” is an entertaining story and an excellent escapism.
We all have bad days but Ozzie Novak experiences one that goes down in the books (literally!!). Life is going great until one day, it's not. His entire world begins to completely transform as he knows it. Newly married bliss is wonderful but an explosion sets off a horrible chain of events. He begins the day by discovering that the FBI is tearing his office apart and taking records. While being detained in the conference room, his father is handcuffed and suffers a heart attack on his way out of the office. Right in the middle of the chaotic day, Ozzie gets a text message (a text message!!) from his wife that she wants a divorce and he no longer can stay at their home. The whip cream and cherry on top comes when his father mysteriously dies after receiving advice for a positive life going forward if he takes control of his health.
An investigation begins and Ozzie feels more ON EDGE than ever before. How could a life so good go so wrong?
I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
Ozzie Novak's life is unraveling faster then a speeding bullet. First he finds out his father is dead--but was it natural or murder? He goes home to find that his wife is divorcing him. He knew that something was wrong in their relationship--but divorce? Then he finds out that his father's law firm is going to be shut down and the proceeds divided among the employees. Unfortunately he hasn't been there long enough--he is not included. Then there is his father's girlfriend to contend with--not to mention his Mom. His brother is not much help-but he tries.
Now someone is threatening his life-------and is not kidding around!!
Read this thriller which will keep you guessing and enthralled to the very last page. ON Edge
We got a glimpse of the character, Ozzie, in the Ivy Nash series. Now in his own set of books, we will come to know this man... heart and soul. That is how the Author works his magic. He makes his characters real and the reader become involved in the adventures. Ozzie's story is no different (well maybe a bit different). We all see him tackle a really really bad day ! The FBI is ripping his office apart. They have arrested and handcuffed his Father ( who later collapses and dies). Now that is a pretty rough day, but let's just top it off with the fact his wife wants a divorce!
Now Ozzie knows something is not quite right about his father's death. To figure this out he needs to look at what his father was working on before he died. He gets himself in some tight spots. and you wonder how it will all end... then "wow" is all I will say about the ending. You just have to read this.
I have read many books written by John W Mefford and ON Edge did not disappoint at all. This is the first in the Ozzie Novak series but a book 13 in the Redemption Thriller Series. And this book thrilled. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would come next in the book.
There were twists and turns I didn't see coming at all. And the ending, oh my! I am definitely hanging on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book. When a writer can connect you to his characters enough that you want to know what's next, that is a great read.
I definitely recommend picking up ON Edge and any of John W Mefford's books.

I've been reading the Redemption series for a long time, and I've enjoyed the characters and thrills that it provides. However, Ozzie is a brand new character, and I absolutely can't wait to read more about him!
Ozzie is bustling along his life as a low-level lawyer in his father's firm, married to a wonderful woman, and thinking that he has the world in his hand. In one day his entire world falls apart, and he's soon trying to solve a huge mystery while his own life is on the line.
With the sudden craziness in his life can Ozzie find the help he needs to solve his father's death before his own is added to the case file?

Ozzie Novak is having a bad day. It starts with him wondering why his newlywed wife has suddenly become very aloof. Then on the way to work, Ozzie gets in a street brawl. And then not long after getting to Novak & Novak Law Firm, federal agents show up with a sealed warrant and shut the firm down. But his dad collapsing from a heart attack while being arrested topped it all. Could the day get any worse? As a matter of fact, it does. Ozzie can’t help but wonder, what has happened to his picture perfect life.
I enjoyed the character of Ozzie immediately. The more I read, the more I felt sorry for him. It seemed like he couldn’t do anything right, no matter what. I am absolutely going to enjoy this new series, and knowing John Mefford’s writing, have no doubt that the rest will be as action packed as this one was.
When I first started reading this book I didn't think I was going to like it. The first chapter was writing in the 2nd person and it was a little confusing. But I bared with it and once I got through the first chapter it seemed to make sense. The writing style then changed to the first person and I got to know the character of Ozzie. The story then had lots of action and it was a book that I wanted to keep reading to find out who killed his father and it was not the person I was expecting it to be which I love as it kept me in suspense. I also liked how the ending started the next story which then meant I started the 2nd in the series straight away as I wanted to find out more. This is the first book I have read by John W Mefford and I am glad that this is a series as it was very enjoyable and I am hooked to find out more about the life of Ozzie Novak.
Everyone has had one of those days - when everything seems to be going wrong when the world feels like it's crashing down on you. This feeling is exactly what instantly bonds you to our unlikely here - Ozzie Novak. Soon you're swept up in a world where a ruthless man will stop at nothing to protect himself, and Ozzie must do anything he can to discover the man's identity and save the one he loves. Don't miss this wild, heart racing ride!
I received this book for review and an honest opinion. Ozzie Novak thought life was a breeze early in his career, but lately he noticed that his wife, Nicole had been very standoffish and had not been her usual loving self. He wondered if he had done anything to cause her feeling this way. Apparently that was the least of his worries, when he arrived at work to do find the FBI gathering all kinds of records from the office. Everyone was told that they had to stay in the conference room, until they were let go. Amidst all the chaos, Ozzie sees his father being handcuffed and dragged to the door. Then his father started to sweat profusely and told his son that this was the big one. Mr. Novak was having a heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital and was in surgery for quite a few hours. If that wasn’t enough, his wife texted him and told him she was filing for a divorce and he needed to find somewhere to stay. After surgery, the surgeon told Mr. Novak that his heart wasn’t strong and that he would need to change his lifestyle and his diet. If he did that, he could live longer. Ozzie tried to find out from his father why there was a sealed warrant from the FBI, and what was going on, but his father told him, that it wasn’t him that the sealed warrant was for. It was for his client; one that even the FBI wouldn’t be able to find because there was no record of the client existing. The next day, Ozzie finds out that his father is dead. He immediately called for an investigation into his father’s death. Ozzie believes that his father was murdered. So what would the gang members of MS-13 have to do with this investigation? Gangster thugs start showing up killing people and leaving bodies behind. Fortunately, Ozzie avoided being hit. Why would his wife all of a sudden decide to divorce him? Who is trying to kill anyone related to the FBI investigation? What is the motive for these killings? Will the FBI find out who the mystery client is? Was Ozzie’s father murdered or did he die from another heart attack? This is a great storyline and the mystery continued to build throughout the book. I liked the character development and feel that the reader can relate to each one. I really like Ozzie’s character very much! I would have preferred a much more explosive ending though. I look forward to reading the next Ozzie Novak book.
Okay I am ALL in now with Ozzie after reading his back story in this latest book On Edge in the Redemption Thriller series. I was caaptured, lock, stock, and barrel. Mefford made my heart ache with what all Ozzie goes through but he emerges out the other side a bit battle weary, but his wonderful core of his being in tact, and now he is on to another adventure of finding the daughter he has never met. Ozzie endured torturous living, and lost everything he ever cherished and loved. But somehow this hero of a man comes through with his sanity and his core identity in tact. I am now an Ozzie fan. This book is John Mefford at his very finest. What an Author. This is an “I cannot put this book down” read. So make sure you have some time to read. Ozzie has a pure soul, loves beyond what most people know how to do, is intelligent, sharp minded, and has a unique sense of humor, and wit about him, and those are just the top layer. Ozzie has many layers to his character. Fierce loyalty to those Ozzie loves too. Life uses Ozzie in this book as a punching bag, but Ozzie can take it and still excel during his attacks from the world. Definintely a wonderful read, and definitely a MUST READ. Ozzie had already met Alex Troutt in this Redemption series, and I’m hoping he meets Ivy Nash on a more up close and personal level in this Ozzie Novak Redemption Series, and maybe they might “find each other” and become “family” too, because Ozzie exhibits “family is everything” and Ivy Nash feels that same way as well. Okay...grab On Edge and hold on, because this roller coaster just took off and if this book is any indication of what is to come, we had all better be holding ON TIGHT. Thank you John Mefford for this delightful read!!!! FINE WORK JOHN.
ON Edge is another suspenseful thriller from John W Mefford. This well-written story is easy to read and follow with an intriguing and distinct plot. This series is a spinoff from other books from this author with characters mentioned in his other books. In true John W Mefford fashion, there is a lot of action and suspense that keeps you second-guessing yourself. The characters are well developed and engaging. John does a great job of intertwining the different characters from previous books in the series throughout.
This book was a little harder for me to get into but not really sure why. About halfway through it picked up my interest and I couldn’t wait to get to the end to see how all the puzzle pieces came together. I have read several books by John W Mefford. I am never disappointed in his writing and know that when I pick up one of his books I will be thoroughly entertained. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out so that I can continue the mysterious adventures. I recommend ON Edge to anyone that enjoys reading suspense/thriller mixed with crime.
Ozzie was first introduced in an Ivy story, but now the focus is on him and his family. He has truly the worst day possible at the beginning of the story and the rest of the story is trying to find answers for how and what occurred.
During the answers we have intrigue, violence, new friendships, a career change and questions given and some answers found. The ending is quite a cliffhanger and the connecting of characters and questions was entertaining. Ozzie was screwed over by his father, but the rationale at the end was somewhat sweet? I liked having Brook come over from Ivys stories and found the condition to the bombing and the other town a great transition.
I don’t like Ozzies wife(soon to be ex?), but I did find her role in everything a unique twist. The cliffhanger was not expected but did answer a question since I have read some Alex stories that occur later in the series. Can’t wait to read what happens cut in Ozzies new job as a P.I. and finding his daughter!
I loved this book. This is the first in a series..Ozzie Novak is a lawyer with his Dad's firm. He's not a partner, but working toward that. Living with his wife and life is good..Until, this day..He goes to work and there are FBI agents all over, and they have come to arrest his father. They have a sealed indictment against him, while trying to take his Dad in custody, he has a heart attack. Going on in the background with Ozzie, his wife just sent him an email that she is divorcing him and he can come pick up his clothes and oh yeah, she has emptied out the accounts and now he is homeless and broke.
When he goes to the hospital to see how his father is, he is met by FBI agents and they won't tell him what his father might be guilty of. Not only is his mother on the way to see her husband, but so is his long time girlfriend.
There is always something going on, don't want to put any spoilers in, but every chapter Ozzie is fighting for his life and his families.
ON EDGE, the first Ozzie Novak book, is definitely a thriller! It is hard to imagine in the blink of an eye everything you love and cherish is gone. Ozzie Novack works in the family law firm, Novack and Novack, has a legendary father and is happily married until the day the FBI and other agencies entered the law firm, seized the computers and arrested his father. As his father is being led away he suffers a heart attack later passing away in the hospital. Thus begins Ozzie’s search for answers. The ending was a total surprise. I really loved the first book in this new series by John Mefford. His characters are larger than life and I always find myself rooting for them. I highly recommend!
Every book he writes gets better and better than the last – and I didn’t that was possibly!
ON Edge brings the whole world down on Ozzie and doesn’t let up.
The entire book was enough to bring a man to his knees but Ozzie kept pushing forward. The twists and turns were ones that I never saw coming.
I didn’t want it to end and then the end – oh the end.
I am dying to get started on book 2. I need to know what happens next. It was the perfect cliffhanger that leaves you yearning for the next book.
This is one you are not going to want to miss and you are going to want to read the entire series – this is going to be an amazing journey and I cannot wait to see where Ozzie goes on this adventure!
On Edge is the beginning book to one of the sub-series in the Redemption Thriller Series. And a thriller it is. As each book in this Redemption Thriller Series is published they are just getting better. Ozzie is the main character in On Edge and John Mefford has done an amazing job in creating this character as well as the entire book. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire book and I can’t wait until Book 2. While you can read each of the sub-series separately I would recommend that you start with Book One in the Redemption Thriller Series and continue forward as they subtly start tying in with each other. Mr. Mefford has created one of the best and most unique thriller series out there. Don’t miss any of them. Sent from my iPad
I have devoured all the Alex Trout and Ivy Nash suspense thrillers that Mefford has written and when each one of these series came to an end I felt let down. But then came the Ozzie Novak series and I couldn't wait. And again, Mefford did not disappoint. Ozzie's story started a bit slow for me and I was having a hard time getting to like him, but that all changed quickly and the suspense and intrigue carries on. And the book did finally keep me On Edge. Ozzie is having a very very bad day, which turns into a very bad week, but hopefully things will turn around for Ozzie, or will they? Thank you John Mefford for this intriguing series and I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve!
This is the first of the Ozzie Novak books sub-series of the 'Redemption' series (if that makes sense!). Anyway it is a brilliant book, the plot really keeps you guessing where it is going next, and you're never quite sure why other characters are doing what they're doing, are they helping Ozzie or not? Ozzie himself is a great character, totally believable, a tough and resourceful guy, but beset by all too human weaknesses and failings. He doesn't give up and makes this great story into a brilliant one. There are the Mefford trademark action sequences which really get the blood pumping to spice up the book as well. I really can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
Ozzie Novak knows something is wrong in his marriage. His whole day seems to implode from there. His father is arrested and the firm shut down. This was after he stopped an assault on the shoe shine guy who has been out front of the building for a long time.
I loved the Alex Troutt books and the Ivy Nash books. Ozzie Novak is such an interesting character. He attacks life and does whatever he can to get the information he needs. He, however, is one of the good ones and does not like resorting to violence. I think he is going to be fun to watch develop over the next books. John W Mefford deliverrs nonstop action and books that just cannot be put down!
"The new normal." A new lead character has entered the Redemption series: meet Ozzie Novak, a very personable young man of twenty eight, whose pleasant life is about to fall apart. The soulmate he married is not the person he thought she was, and has turned him out of his home and cancelled the plastic, his father becomes a person of interest to the police, which, in turn, puts his half share in the Novak and Novak law firm in jeopardy and, lacking funds he doesn't even have anywhere to stay. And then, it seems, someone is out to kill him.
Another exciting , well written read and intriguing start to a new six book series by author, John Mefford. Definitely one not to be missed
This is another great story in Mefford’s new series with the nice, lovable Ozzie Novak character. As in all the other books by Mefford, there are many twist and turns throughout the book. In this book, we learn about Ozzie Novak a lawyer, who has a beautiful wife and thinks life is good. That is until one day, his wife tells him she’s leaving him, the FBI raids the lawyer firm and is father has a heart attack and dies. Things didn’t set right with Ozzie so he decides to find out what happened with the law firm and his father. Poor Ozzie goes through a lot in this book but it makes for a thrilling read. I’m looking forward to more in this series.
Ozzie's book didn't grab me by the throat like Alex & Ivy's books did. At least, in the beginning. By the end of the book I was more than hooked and trying to figure out how Mr. Mefford is going to tie all of these characters together. I'm glad that all of Ozzie's books are coming out very close together because I CAN'T WAIT!!!! If you like great writing, great characters and lots of action then this is the series and the author for you. You can't go wrong with Mefford!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
For the last 10 months I've read and enjoyed the Alex Troutt Thrillers. I'm a character reader, I get into the characters, their story, who/what they are. The author has done an amazing job of developing throughout those books. All the significant characters in his writing are developed similarly. This book, ON Edge, is in all senses of the word, a thriller, as has been all his books. That’s it, no more spoilers from me. Outstanding read! John Mefford has become one of my favorite authors!
'ON Edge' was a great intro to Ozzie and his life. The story line was creative and very thrilling. The one constant in all the books of the 'Redemption Thriller Series' is that the leads usually get their asses kicked at least once. Ozzie is not the exception. The way the story played out was full of thrilling scenarios, drama and suspenseful situations. I liked the way the story was written and it was written well. I look forward to reading more. A great add to your tbr list.
As a first novel in the series this book definitely had me hooked. Although this story deals with illegal activity linked to a law firm it is not a law procedural book as such but a murder mystery. Ozzie, the main character comes across as a really decent type of person who is thrown into danger through his father’s activities. The tension certainly builds as the story progresses with some “side plots” thrown in to keep the reader guessing.
Whoa! You don't think that when something happens to you that your whole life will change so drastically. This definitely cannot end well...or at least the way you expect! This is another fantastic thrill ride from John W Mefford. You can't go wrong with one of his stories. I highly recommend this book and his other books.
