What can I say? I'm a sucker for weird, kinky, alien smut.

description

And this fit the bill PERFECTLY!

description

Alrighty, so as the title sugests there is a part 1 to this story. Because my name wouldn't be Angela if I did; but I totally skipped it and went right for this one. There are even 3 other books in this "series" I haven't read. But. Whatever.

I don't think you need to read any of the other books. At least I didn't feel lost. Though I probably would have been more in the loop intially had I read part 1. It wasn't until a bit into the book did I catch on to why Tosh was inprisoned (or what lead up to it) but the fact I didn't know did not take away from the story and I enjoyed it all the same.

Within the first chapter I could already tell I was going to be a fan of Tosh. She was head strong, took things in strive and wasn't annoying about it. She actually excersied the rational part of her brain and I admired her for it. Despite the semi "insta-love" (I say semi because intitally she really is pretty terrified of Alzan, but the longer they are locked up the more she realises she has nothing to be scared of when it comes to Alzan- and by "longer they are locked up" I mean a week, tops, so thats were "insta" kind of comes into play). Anyways, point being, there are numerous reasons these two wound up together and it worked and felt believable.

Also, the kinky, weird, alien sex (cause he was as ALIEN as they come) was, well, hot.

description

No fucking shame.

I live. I breath. I devour this shit.

description

Again, no fucking shame.

So we've got some strong, solid characters (I even liked Willa and i'll probably get to her story in part 1 now after all). We also have a decent story line that I didn't want to abandon for some silly, typical, Saturday morning adulting. It was also funny and Alzan made me laugh. He totally had that alpha-vibe but it was pretty vanila compared to other alpha-males we've probably all read about. No mater, he was super fucking sweet and i just want to wrap him in a big blanket of bubble wrap and watch him pop em all. He'd look so cute doing it despite the menacing appearance too!

The end.

It SO like me to cheerfully crash-land in the middle of the series. I keep doing it and then, to top it off read the rest of the series in random order skipping the books with unappealing synopsis.
Does anybody else do that? No?
Oh well.

Anyways, the reason I gravitated to this book is that I was promised a proper alien-looking alien. Not a supersized blue/purple/red/etc. tattooed/marked pseudo-alien with optional cranial ridges but honest-to-G*d otherworldly creature.

The book delivered. Alzan wasn't just otherworldly, he was legitimately scary and on top of that could not be sustained with conventional food. And he was so sweet and somewhat lost and funny!

"All the while, Alzan watched her like she was the most fascinating creature on the planet.

“What?” she asked around a mouthful of food. “I’m hungry.”

When he sighed and the chirping continued, Tosh tugged the golden bedsheet tighter around her body. All he needed to do was prop his chin upon his hand, and swing a foot off the chair, and he’d look like every infatuated human woman in the romance vids."

I adored Alzan, therefore I didn't much care about plot or character development or world building or other such minor details. Tosh (the heroine) was not TSTL, made situation-appropriate decisions, didn't get hysterical (much) or overly dramatic. Which was a bonus.

Five stars for Alzan!

3.5 Stars

At the end of The Khyma Willa receives a ransom demand for her best friend Tosh after she gets captured by a powerful and ruthless criminal. The Incuabri starts with Tosh locked in a room with a very alien looking alien and no memories of how she got there. She half remembers the party she gate-crashed with Willa her reckless but beloved best friend so she could get her family heirloom back, after that...nothing. She isn't worried, she's been in sticky situations before, however, she can't find a way out of the room and the Alzan the alien she is trapped with is hungry...for her.

I loved this book! I have said before that I enjoy a sci-fi romance where the aliens involved are alien and Alzan very much fits that bill. He has grey/black skin, red eyes, wings and look generally like something you would find in a nightmare. And his diet? Life essence. However, although Alzan may look like a monster, Tosh soon realises that his appearance is deceiving, he would never feed off her without her permission and it doesn't seem so bad when his feedings feel oh-so-good.

So far in this series Alzan is my favourite hero, I don't understand how someone so terrifying look could be so funny and cute, but he was. It could be that he made adorable happy chirping sounds and the fact he was trapped and uncertain as Tosh. I also really liked Tosh, she was a great heroine, funny, sensible but kick ass. They made a great couple.

This series just keeps getting better. Bring on the next book!

The Incuabri picks up right where The Khyma left off, though this is in Tosh’s point of view. She finds herself in quite a bind — and she’s not alone. She wakes up trapped in a room with a nightmarish creature, something horribly terrifying, but she finds that there is more to him than what meets the eye. He doesn’t act as one would expect and she finds herself growing closer to this kind, sweet alien.

I loved Alzan. Normally I’m all over the alpha males, but sweet heroes make their way into my heart. Though Alzan does turn quite beastly during the book which I absolutely loved! He totally hulked out!!! (Sexy, scary alien) Tosh is also a fun character. Her train of thought makes me inside chuckle, and there are a few spots where I outright laughed out loud. And then there were others where I cringed. We also get some scenes with Willa and Kyran (he’s grown so much since the previous book and is, at times, the voice of reason for Willa, haha!). She’s desperately trying to find and rescue her best friend.

Poppy Rhys’ books are so much fun! Her writing has so much personality and she doesn’t shy away from humor. The Incuabri is a wonderful addition to her Dor Nye series. Can’t wait to read what’s next!

Why didn't this series start with Tosh and Willa!? I loved this one, and honestly it's my favorite in this series overall, hands down much better!

Now, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the Meiler, but there were parts of that where I just cringed and, honestly, hated the second book. I only got a sample of the second one because I wasn't the biggest fan of the first book and just hated that right off the bat.

The third book was great, much better story line that didn't make me cringe in certain parts and a big step-up. This two part series? Fell. In. Love.

Tosh was awesome! She was funny, stubborn, and smart. The best part? She stayed that way throughout the whole book! I hate it when you give me an awesome female and then they turn into the "oh, I love you so much" or "you can do no wrong, give me your dick!", makes me want to smack the author with a rolled-up newspaper. Poppy Rhys doesn't give me that female in her books and that's really the only reason why I have kept going. That, and she's really funny.

Alzan, if I needed an alien in my life, I want him. I have a fear of red eyes, but I would put up with it if I had him ;) He was sweet and adorable...even if he was the thing of nightmares. I loved that his world had been "beyond the primitive needs" and Tosh reminded him of a good time ;) . Him learning new things about himself, who he is as a person...alien, and about his people didn't feel overwhelming to me as a reader. It was all done is a very clean, neatly written way.

One thing I do appreciate is Poppy Rhys is a clean writer, grammar is great, thoughts are projected clearly, there isn't a lot of bouncing around of characters. Except for certain scenes, those bad boys are diiirrrttttyyy, but Rhys has a way of giving a lot of information on one character without overwhelming the reader.

My favorite scene in this entire book was the Zero Grav scene when they took Alzan there for the first time in celebration. The images in my head of them dancing and swirling around just gave me that "awwww" feelings. Kinda like when Pumba and Timone sing "can you feel the love tonight". That feeling.

Favorite quotes? So many, but I did narrow it down so I'm not give the whole book away....

"He was still laying on the floor, looking like the worlds saddest nightmare."

"'It is primitive,' he said. Did he just insult her table manners?"

"'I kicked the security team out, those perverts, and turned off the video surveillance-'"--gotta love Willa.

I'm hoping this series comes out with more books, I did really enjoy this series once I got through the cringe parts in the first book. Totally worth it.

Yet another fabulous book in the Women of Dor Nye series!

Trapped in a room with a scary-as-all-hell alien, Tosh has every reason to freak out when she realizes she’s also his only source of food. With no way out, clueless as to who their captor is and what he wants from them, Tosh and Alzan have no choice but to learn to trust each other. When their kidnapper coerces them into doing the unthinkable, their strength and blossoming bond are all that will see them through it.

Tension, action, passion, and a whole lot of ‘holy cow!’ moments made The Incuabri a mind-blowing read. From pink—not so cuddly—critters, to flesh-eating spit, and angry nanobots, Tosh doesn’t get an easy ride of it. But she’s a tough girl. And Alzan is as badass as he’s sweet, respectful, and devoted to her. I need an Incuabri of my own!

Watching the bond develop between them melted my heart and the steamy scenes made my toes curl! I loved to see previous characters from the series and some jerks getting their well-deserved comeuppance.

The Incuabri

Loved this second book. Smart , funny and loads of adventure. Tosh and Al were a great couple. I love the world building just as much, it comes all together to make a great story. Thank you for a wonderful ending for these two women. I would recommend this book.

Ugh I loved this so much, I read it so quickly! Everything about Alzan was amazing and there were a lot of cute and funny moments. I want to read more books like this!

She stood a few feet closer to him than before and folded her arms across her chest. From his position on the ground, he could see the strange furred apex of her thighs. The color matched the pelt sprouting from her head and above her eyes. Another curious feature.

“Did you just— did you just look at my crotch?” she shrieked, making him jump. She raised a fist, like she’d hit him, but then backed further away, tugging at her clothing to cover the furred spot.

“Apologies,” he beseeched, not wanting to upset the fierce Therran further. “I did not know I was forbidden to look.”

Tosh sputtered and Alzan worried that looking at the furred patch was forbidden. “You can’t just go looking at the goods!” she reprimanded. “It’s... it’s rude!”

Is that what her pelt patch was called? The goods?

I'm happy it's over.It was not the worst story but far from being a good one.Author have a tendency to rush and slack in storytelling,it is quite annoying to be honest.I did not liked the way the main event was solved,it was very Meh,you now like watching a huge bonfire being lit, fire catching on and when the moment comes for fire to roar it sizzles out to few pathetic embers.Thats the best way I can describe it.

On the bright side,it read easily enough.

✅ Monsters/aliens who don't ever look humanoid
✅ Protective, feral, and badass towards anyone who hurts his love
✅ Is actually just a sweet ball of fluff on the inside

Thank you Poppy Rhys for not writing ridiculously sized peen that'll send someone to the hospital. And also, no breeding. I'm so tired of that. Just be together. Be happy.

Better than Willa’s book ,I guess...

Tosh is better then Willa I guess but she’s reactionary and immature more than anything else....
I wouldn’t say she was dumb per say,but she’s definitely the just let my unfiltered reactions fly before I stop 🛑 and think for even a second kinda girl ...
All girl. No woman here.. Honestly I’d describe has a semi mature teenager... I don’t know Tosh’s age but she feels barely out her teens, 21,22 at the most....
Ok,I wake up in a strange place/room with only a camisole that barely reaches mid thigh, and NOTHING else ? I’m gonna grab some of the bed sheets and curtains or pillow cases around me and make myself something to wear... I mean I don’t know about you I’d feel better and less vulnerable if I wasn’t basically running around naked. Then then I’d have my hissy fit/break down and that’s when I’d break a chair on the window trying to find a way out... I mention this because Tosh’s thought process is sooo flawed to me.. she runs around never thinking of how vulnerable she is really, and when she breaks said chair and keeps a leg to use as a weapon, she wanders off when a new area is opened up and doesn’t even think for a second to take it with her,the new area she’s being herded into is more intriguing then self protection and then is angered when she returns and chair is replaced and her “weapon” is gone...
Seriously ? Seriously 😒 you TSTL idiot?
Just like when Alzan overwhelmed by need, hunger and I’m thinking a type of pheromones is licking her sweat off of her as she wakes, her first reactions are anger ( kinda a “how dare you”) and revulsion and “Eeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww “.
Seriously ? Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww ? Why because it’s sweat ? Ppl often like to lick each other during sex, but this poor alien male who’s trapped like you are and has already admitted he’s NEVER “fed” like this and doesn’t understand what’s going on w/him or his body and is ashamed by it and your first reaction is “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww”.
Shakes my head...
If this were earth, and just sim strange guy walked up and started licking your sweat off or even a lover ,ok, ok, now that would be odd.
But here in this situation ? I’d appreciate a more mature woman who’d try to understand and be curious to know more about what’s going on before she got all grossed out or acted like an accusing brat. The first almost 50% of the book is just the two of them trapped in a room for what feels like weeks, where Tosh is always hungry or tired but never seems to need to cover up more, use a toilet or wash her body ( in fact I had begun to think they didn’t even have one until Tosh wakes up naked one day asking Alzan where her clothing was and he said he’d washed it out thinking it was dirty and it was still in the cleansing room) which was odd. But I felt said a lot about her character. Tosh who spends most of her time wandering around their room,or jumping to conclusions about Alzan’s intentions , while also trying to learn to see him less as an “Alien” and more like just the person/individual he is. And yet he’s thinking of her needs and trying to care for her...
Honestly while I love Lucia’s story and learning about the Melier ,one thing really kinda bugs me.
The whole “but he’s an Alien” thing. You know where it takes them starring at and interacting w/the H for ages and ages before they open their stupid eyes and just see them as a thinking and feeling creature w/hopes and feelings and desires and dreams and nit just some alien “freak” ... I mean if they’d met on earth I’d get it. It would make sense per se ( even though immature ppl like Willa and Tosh would still annoy me) that would at least make sense but, but ppl born and raised out in space on other planets who interact w/other races and species all the time ? It feels about as right as someone acting that w/someone from Mexico 🇲🇽 or Canada 🇨🇦 or something ... Every one is an “alien” out in outer space ,get over yourself and have some sense..
At 50% I had to quit Tosh was an immature idiot as far as I was concerned and I honestly did NOT care in the slightest what happened to her,I’d almost liked to have seen her and Willa both killed for wasting my time and poor Alzan was just words in a page .
He seemed just soo underdeveloped, there was barely anything to him. The poor B just had my deepest sympathies for having to be saddled w/Tosh as his h.
I’d recommend the first two books in this “series” ( quotations because books are soo loosely based together there barely seems enough to call this a series) though the first is better then the second to me. Then I’d say stop 🛑. I wish I had.

Book 5 in the women of dor nye series...

Following on from where book four the Khama ends..

Tosh has been drugged and kidnapped...after waking up in a strange room in a strange place she realises she's not alone... she trapped...with a strange scary as hell winged alien... Alzan.
Tosh is terrified but quickly learns that there is more to Al then meets the eye.
They are part of a nefarious plan. To kill an emperor and overthrow a kingdom.

I cannot get enough of this series. I am literally wowed and blown away by the world building that goes into each of these books! Fantastic stories with wonderfully written charachters that make you laugh out loud and feeeeeel hard!

Sweet and steamy and filled with love and laughter....

This is a follow-up to Willa's story in The Khyma Taken Part One (Women of Dor Nye, #4) by Poppy Rhys

Tosh has been taken as is being held for ransom, well that's the cover story anyways.

Her arch-nemesis Francis "The Wenden" has plans for her and the strange alien she's trapped with. Thankfully, she's able to start communicating with Alzan and they get to know each other.

Great ending with some bad guys, action and of course a HEA.

Poppy Rhys is an amazing and creative writer. The Women of Dor Nye series is completely original which makes for a refreshing read. Every time I read a new book in this series, I fall more in love with the characters and with Poppy Rhys' talent. *I did receive this book as an ARC, but I am leaving an honest review of my own volition.* Give this series a chance because the books are worth it and Ms. Rhys deserves it.

Tosh is lost

Tosh was going on a mission but woke up somewhere else. In a strange bedroom, in a frilly gown, and, with some weird chrysalis on the floor. This has the makings of a bad horror film. Turns out it was a giant alien wrapped in wings. And guess who his meal is supposed to be?

Spoilers ahead.
I loved Lucia's 2 books, I read 3&4 of the Dor Nye series and didn't care for them. Three came off as an alien/human Pride and Prejudice rewrite. But it started out in a warehouse where he was being sold as a sex slave. She wasn't there to rescue him, but use his services. That pretty much killed it for me. Willa was far too immature and headstrong on top of it. She also took advantage of her alien. Tosh was a stronger character. She fought, looked for escape, made compromises with her fellow inmate and they played to each other's strengths. This redeemed the series for me. But my favorites are still the Melier ones. Although, I'd love to revisit the Incuabri and learn more about how Alzan deals with such contact driven beings as humans. How he handles being away from his own kind. How he'll deal with parenthood protectiveness. What career path he'll take, and what his previous one was. We never really learned much about him, aside from a quick cultural overview. And the changes created a very interesting character.

This is a book where I know if I don’t write a review for it, I’m going to forget what it was about - it wasn’t very memorable.

I picked this up as a standalone, so there were some parts where I had no idea what was going on and didn’t care about the secondary characters involved. That part is fine, just an FYI for anyone else thinking of picking this up as a standalone.

The FMC wakes up in a room with the MMC, who looks like a black winged demon and whose species inspired the tales of incubuses. They feed off energy and emit a smell to lure in a mate. Forced proximity + MMC being polite and kind + the FMC having internal conflict cus her ex was a douche + MMC being starving and emitting an alluring smell = attraction.

The bad guy lets them go so they can help him with his evil plan, they are rescued by friends, the major conflict is resolved pretty easily cus the FMC has a friend who conveniently has the skill to help them, and there’s a HEA.

As good as the first!!!

Absolutely loved this book, o.m.g alien meets one of hells infamous demons!!! Oh God yes!!!!. So Al is about as sweet and delicious as a scary black winged alien can get, I swear I was like awww, ohhhh, omg I want one..lol. Tosh and Al's love affair is just the best, she's skittish and rough around the edges, and Al is nightmarish scary, super polite, charming and so lovingly thoughtful. Opposite's attract definitely on this one, and everything they seem to being going though for me was just a second thought, I just couldn't get enough of them together.

Pleasant

In the same lines as its predecessors, it doesn't deviate from the previous installment with Will a and Kyran. I like Alzan, though some of his innocence, or rather ignorance, from his civilization being enlightened is too out there. A culture wouldn't forget their heritage from becoming vegans because there would still be historical documentation available since their technology would still be accessed. For a character blocked from the outside worlds, it makes no sense he would have been swindled by Francis, and the wager was never fully explained.

It's an easy read, and the story was fun. I would probably read the next novel in the series when it comes in.

Don't get stuck on the pink rainbow planet!

Tosh was awesome as the heroine and cautious food source for Alzan.. their slow growing acceptance and growth of feelings beyond the initial shock of their meeting was written well. The impossible task imposed by the Wenden was devious and despicable, but will they be able to bring themselves to follow through? And what happens with the other women and Incuabri that were imprisoned? Willa had a few short chapters in this book that showed she might be able of redemption. Really liked this story and am ready for more from the crazy women of Dor!

Aliens that look like Aliens !

Such a good , fun book ! Yes there's drama , intrigue and what - the - hec moments , but a truly enjoyable read all around ! Tosh ( and Willa ) are awesome female leads. They're not whiners or complainers . They aren't afraid to get things done and they don't need anyone do it for them . The ending of the book is satisfying and leaves the reader reader hoping for a continuation of their story ( stories ). After all , a future for our couples with younglings ? Yes !

What the heck is going on?!?

This one was *to me* better than the last, but i couldn't help wondering why Tosh seemed much tamer in this book than the last. No complaints, because i didn't like her in the last book, but for people who did like her,it might be disconcerting. I really liked alzan. he was super sweet even though i just stopped trying to picture what he looked like. The last part of the epilogue was weird though. Just.....why? It added nothing to the story. Anyhoo, glad to see an uptick in the quality of the writing,on to book 6!

Tosh’s and Willa’s story plus Alzan

I liked the book but not the ending. The ending just was silly with Tosh and Willa after the conflict came to a head. It really didn’t match the the good story the author created. The kidnapping of Tosh and being paired with Alzan was a good solid story. The romance builds up and do does the danger from the villain and the evil scheme that began in Willa’s book. Read on!
