Eagle's Claw

Rate this book
Austria, 1944 Former policeman Friedrich Moeller never expected to be released from prison, or see his family again. But the Gestapo needs a man-hunter to apprehend an Allied agent who has killed three men, and worse, absconded with Top Secret Luftwaffe documents which detail a secret plan that could alter the course of the war. The Reich cannot let the information, and the man who stole it, make it back to Allied territory. The deal? Catch the killer and the Gestapo will free his family from the death camp where they are jailed. Fail...

Very enjoyable

I kept wondering how the author would bring this story to an end, and he surprised me. Definitely a good read.

The OSS agent’s hangdog mooning and sulking over Elena wears thin and starts to me me sick. I canna take much more of this Jim!

I like that the OSS agent does not whine and moan incessantly about THE PAIN JIM THE PAIN of his wounds.

I don’t even mind the policeman’s daydreams of his family as that is relevant to the plot.

BUT! As the book progresses it becomes evident (to me) that the OSS “Hero” just seems to be bumbling stoopidly from one idiotic nonsensical sequence to the next. And there is no flavor or wiff of the 1940’s in this book that i can see (having been born around 1935.)

At Page 139 I quit reading, returned this awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful awful book, and went to bed.

So I gave it 1 star. I wish I could give it less; maybe minus twenty or fifty stars?

Thrilling, can't-put-it-down read!

Until recently, I paid little attention to war time novels. This author, with his exceptional ability to build suspense, portray whole characters as individuals (not merely "good" and "bad"), and entice a range of emotions from readers, has effectively broadened my literary horizons. I loved the story, beginning to end. It's exceptionally researched and very telling of the immense bravery and sacrifices made, on both "sides", by unsung heroes in World War II.

WW2 James Bond

An OSS agent parachutes and lands on the roof of Hitler's Eagles Nest in the first chapter of the book. He then makes his way to Salzburg where he breaks into a research lab in Hohensalzburg castle. I am familiar with this fort as my wife and I had her birthday picnic lunch on the walls. I enjoy reading about locations I have visited. I dare not reveal anymore details about the story as I wish not to spoil the story for future readers. Do watch the YouTube video that the author recommends about U234.

I went into this book thinking that I would have absolutely no interest in it. I am very picky about books set in WWII. However, I was pleasantly surprised that this book really captivated me. It was more about murder, spies, and secrets than about WWII itself. I fell in love with both main characters. Even though they were on separate sides, I was still rooting for both of them. It was such a fun read.

Old enough to know

Yes I remember this period in time and the events, it did not happen in reality, like in the story line, but other parts, like the build up to the final German offense, the battle of the Bulge and the heavy water for the atomic bond were close. My criticism would be the OSS agent had too many coincidences and seemed to have a number of head injuries [concussions] ? with out any effect.

Another great book by Morgan Jameson! Slower paced that House of Apache Fire. Characters are well fleshed out. The main character seems almost superhuman, he keeps getting into situations that almost takes him out of the action then recovers and goes at it again.
I purchased the book directly from the author at a local fair.

Not just for fans of WWII fiction.

A tightly written story involving Nazi horrors and Allied bravery.
Nicely interwoven with a bit of romance and family tragedy.
Includes an interesting afterword of German weapons and airplanes which could have turned the war to their favor had they just a bit more time.
Excellent read.

A fanciful WWII tale

Overall, I found the book entertaining. I preferred the character Moeller, the German investigator, whose story was more believable. I felt , the American OSS agent was way too "over the top" regarding his escape/survival skills. Moeller's story was believable, Donny's was not. I enjoyed, but couldn't take it seriously.

Outstanding

Fantastic read, very detailed, great plot (if a little much foe one agent)!
Very historically accurate for the most part. I consider myself somewhat of a history buff, but I was unaware of Albert Goering and also the Edelweiss Pirates. Read in Kindle, kept Googling the details for background information.

One of the best

As an avid reader of World War II fiction and non-fiction I found this book to be one of the best. It incorporates some actual events and aircraft with a unique and interesting storyline. Well-written with action and pace to keep your attention. This is one that you will not to put down until the end.

WW II Spy Novel

An interesting read with hero’s (villains) on both sides. I enjoyed the play and counter play as an American “spy” and a German cop engage in a battle of wits.
The use of the women characters added spice and made the book more enjoyable.
Not a difficult read; something WW II aficionados might enjoy.

Outstanding

I really enjoy a book when it combines fiction with history and there is still so much that we don't know about what really happened in World War 2. Mr. Jameson did an excellent job of combining the two. To all the men and women who served in various capacities to end the evil that was the Third Reich, I salute you.

A Great Book

I was not expecting much when I started this book, but was pleasantly surprised. Mr Jameson has a "smooth" style of writing that is easy to follow and writes a good story . I am looking forward to reading House of Apache Fires.

Great read and realistic.

The story is so real that the reader can get lost in the facts, and characters as I did. The end of the combined stories of the two main characters makes it all work very well.

Eagles Claw....wish there was a sequel!

Excellent read! I could easily picture the characters as they dealt with the nazi regime! Love Donny, his ego and attitude added so much to the plot! Moeller, one cannot feel his pain!

One of the best WWII spy novels I’ve ever read

Impressively researched with a page-turner plotand I also learned new and scary things about German munitions research.

I felt like the book was the perfect length that kept me interested the whole time. Wasn’t sure how it would come to an end but was very pleasantly surprised. Each time Donny came close to being caught it seemed like that would be the end, and I liked how Jackie was brought in at the end.
