For Serena Richards, fear and entrapment wasn't something she signed up for. Her mother had changed since her best friend Brandon left. College seemed to be her only way out. Then it happened. Brandon returned, not as her best friend, but something so much more. He was her taste of freedom. A look at a future she didn't think she could have.
For Brandon Eliot, coming back to Stewartsville meant peace and a second chance. Leaving was a mistake and he regretted letting her get away. That all changes when he sees her wild hair and chocolate eyes.
But a mother like Serena's could make second chances and freedom impossible to get.

I couldn’t help but be in Serena’s corner, cheering her on! Tiara Giles writes a great entertaining story with drama and a sweet love story in Longing for the Impossible. I can’t wait to read more from her.
This is such an amazing young adult story. I laughed and cried and wanted to hurt someone while reading this book. Our heroine has a mother from hell. She is controlling, manipulative and verbally abusive towards her. I've never had a character as much as I do this mother. I wanted to scoop on the heroine and hide her and protect her and just shed love for her because she deserved it so much.
This is a coming of age story, between a young girl growing up and the relationship she has with her mother, but also about founding herself and finding love too.
This story is filled with such a roller coaster ride of emotions for a YA book. My heart was with Serena from the very beginning especially being able to relate to dealing with verbal abuse from a family member. Brandon, her best friends brother and neighbor growing up moves back and their friendship slowly builds back up. To see Serena try and live her life and be her own woman is a slow process but such a beautiful transformation. Such a beautifully written story that left me with my hand on my heart as I was reading because I was just consumed by it all and couldn’t put my kindle down. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
I really enjoyed this story. Its quick, easy to follow, and has the perfect balance of drama and fluff. I loved Brandon. He had such great insight and was so perceptive as a character.
Most of all loved the simplicity of the writing. It reads like the characters are teenagers but doesn’t hit you over the head with obnoxious John Green type of prose.
The people who enjoy Sarah Dessen and Judy Blume will enjoy this story. Fingers crossed that the author breaks through and succeeds in the contemporary YA genre.
Serena is a gifted student who has two best girlfriends who will do anything for her and a miserable shrew for a mother who doesn’t deserve the title. She yells at Serena all of the time, treats her like a servant and has made her a prisoner in her own home. Being a senior in high school should be fun because graduation is imminent and college is right around the corner. Instead, Serena was forced to quit cheerleading and can only sit in the stands during the basketball games. Her crazy mother will not let her date for fear that she will get pregnant and ruin her life. So she spends every night in her room dreaming of the day she can escape the darkness her mother has surrounded her with. She feels she has nothing to look forward to, until someone from her past returns just when she needs him the most.
Brandon had spent the last two years living with his father and he was tired of being in a toxic environment. He was glad to be back with his mother and sister and he was looking forward to reconnecting with his old friends. There is one person who he needs to see because he has never gotten over her. Serena is one of his sister’s best friends and she told him that Serena had changed since he last saw her and he wanted to know why. While outside his classroom on his first day back at school he looked in the window, and noticed Serena right away. Her hair was longer and unfortunately, her beautiful smile was not as bright. He knew then that he would do anything to make her happy again.
How will Serena feel when she sees Brandon for the first time? Will her mother stand in the way of her happiness?
Can Brandon reassure Serena that he never forgot her or will her insecurities push him away?
What a fantastic debut novel by new author Tiara L Giles. “Longing For The Impossible” is about love, friendship and growing up. Serena never allowed her mother to dampen her spirit because she knew where she wanted life to take her and she was ready for the journey. I am glad I read this wonderful book and I know everyone will enjoy it as much as I did.
I Voluntarily Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book!
This was a first read by this author for me. I wanted to like it but it just didnt work. At all. Everything was frustrating and hard to read. I actually stopped reading it and had to go back to it 3 times. And the fruit of the success of this couple didnt occur until the LAST chapter! Ugghhh! I will say that it had potential but it fell so FLAT that i cannot recommend it. It was boring and didnt cut it. I hate giving bad reviews but this was just not good. Good effort though.
I received this ARC for my honest opinion. Gosh, her mother, was terrible. Terrible doesn't even cover that piece of work. I don't know why Serena didn't stand up to her more. I mean, it was so abusive, she was a horrible human being. The author definitely nailed it and wrote the mother character to be hated by her readers. I feel like her friends and him could've done more to help Serena possibly get out of the situation. Brandon's character was good. He really is a sweet guy and always wanted Serena and only her. Serena definitely faired better in college, and we started to see her blossoming after leaving home. I really liked the dual POV's, it made it easier to see what what going on in their heads and hearts. Its a easy, pretty good YA read.
This is a non bias review for an ARC. I had a hard time reading this book. This story is filled with so much emotional abuse, I don't know how Serena or Trinity stayed nice. Does society not teach children and their friends if you see something say something? Serena is so afraid of her mother you could feel the anxiety coming off her in droves. Sometimes the anticipation of the abuse is worse than the actual abuse. Trinity's mother isn't much better. At with Trinity's mother there wasn't anticipation of abuse. The story between Serena and Brandon confused me. I could never really tell if she liked him or not. He liked her a lot that point was made pretty clearly. However, with Serena she was hanging out with 2 other guys. I also found several typos.
I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was the right amount of drama mixed in with a cute love story. My heart bled for Serena as she has the mom from hell and she just wants to be a normal teenage girl. It was lovely to say the way she comes into herself eventually. I won’t tell you everything and spoil it but you’ll love it! Brandon is such an amazing male lead, he really is the kind of man you could love forever. No, he is not perfect but it’s the right balance of characteristics and blends beautifully with how the book flows. I look forward to seeing more of them. This is my honest and unbiased review.
Serena Richards is living a life that she doesn't want anyone to really know about, while trying to finish high school. Serena's life is controlled by her mother, Sophia, who is verbally abusive and tells her who she can and can't see. The last two years have caused her to lose almost everyone except her Trinity and Keirsten whom she still has kept secrets from.
Brandon Eliot is back in town after living with his father for two years. Now he is back with his twin sister, Trinity and he is faced with Serena, the girl who is no longer the same one he left two years ago.
When Brandon and Serena are paired up together for an art project they must work together but adhere to the rules that Sophia has put in place. As Serena longs for the freedom she once had will she risk more and what will the consequences be if she is caught by Sophia?
This book was beautiful and heartbreaking with everything that Serena went through with her mother, Sophia. Sophia had some serious issues and I hated how she treated Serena. I hated what she did to Serena regarding Brandon and everything else. Serena herself was so sweet and really tried to adhere to her mom's rules but she was also living a life that she hated as she was not free to do anything.
I really liked Brandon and how he tried helping Serena and getting through to her. I must admit that I was mad at him with his actions over the summer as it was not Serena's fault with everything that went down.
I was scared when Sophia discovers where Serena is at college and I was shocked at everything she revealed to her.
I was also worried about Serena and Brandon but knew with Trinity and Serena being close there was a chance!
I am hoping that the next book is about Trinity or Keirsten as they better not mess with how things ended.
Longing For the Impossible Longing Book #1 Tiara L Giles We meet Serena a school student doing well at academics but abused at home by her mother. Brandon returned to school and his mother’s home to be with his twin and finish school under a cloud of mystery. Serena and Brandon circle each other as their schooling ends a college begins. Serena is not allowed to date or even have friends out of school hours and at college has to find herself. This is a clean sort of romance with hea. At times it seems like a little too much has been edited from the story, but on the whole is an enjoyable read. Ms Giles doesn’t shy away from the topic of emotional abuse and the baggage it can bring on the surface. A solid 3 stars. I received an arc of this book.
4 STARS= Very Good= Enjoyable= I liked it very much...!
Longing for the Impossible was a well-written and fast-paced story, with likeable and well-developed main characters. The author did an awesome job of depicting emotions, especially Serena's anxiety and fear of her mother. It was great seeing Serena overcome her obstacles and morph into an independent and confident young woman. Brandon was patient and caring, and a wonderful love-interest for Serena. The romance between them felt real and sweet. I also liked Serena's friends Trinity and Keirsten, and I'm looking forward to their stories too.
Disclosure: I was one of the beta readers for this book.
A lovely, quick read. I hated Serena's mother and wanted to off her repeatedly. The main event that everyone keeps waiting for to take place, takes forever to build up to and it happens out of nowhere. A bit rushed in fact. All in all I really did enjoy this book.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster but I didn't want to put it down Brandon was so amazing I loved him so much and I was so happy when she finally stood up for herself
This book is amazing and addicting. I loved the light HEA and the characters draw you in from the first page. I can't wait to see where she takes the characters in this book. Get addicted now.
