Czytadelko, w sam raz pomiędzy książkami. To romans kryminałem i pieskami w tle. Nie przeszkadza mi taka forma, ale ten romans jest tak kompletnie od czapy i w ogóle w niego nie wierzę. Szkoda.

This is the first story in a new series concerning a serial killer who is known as the Red Rose Killer, set at Canyon Air Force Base and concerning the Military K-9 Unit that trains and is based there. One of the trainers there is Felicity Monroe who is striving to cope with the recent untimely death of her father, nightmares and the lack of positive feedback she gets from her superior officer, Master Sergeant Westley James. When all the dogs in training are let loose and the two officers on duty that night are killed it becomes clear that an escaped ex-military, convicted serial killer is targeting other military personnel. Felicity is believed to be one of his targets as she is left a red rose - the killer’s calling card…..

Westley insists on being assigned to guard Felicity, along with the K-9 German Shepherd, Dakota. The reasons for Westley’s lack of positive feedback becomes clear as he struggles to resist his attraction to Felicity, especially as she feels the same! I hadn’t realised the problems this would cause for military personnel and I appreciated how the author helped make the situation, restrictions and procedures clear without dwelling on them.

This is a fast paced romantic suspense and murder mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters and setting are brought to life in the story, including the K-9 ones, especially Dakota. There are plenty of twists and turns in the story that kept me intrigued and I really can’t wait to read the other books in this superb series.

I requested and was lucky enough to be given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

Woohoo! I'm super excited about this new Love Inspired Suspense continuity series! Six great authors working their suspense magic on one over-arcing plot while delivering an edge-of-your-seat suspense unique to each book. And the best part is there's a book every month so we don't have long to wait between reads.

Terri Reed sets it all up beautifully in Mission to Protect with murder and mayhem from the very first page. Nothing like an escaped serial killer on a rampage to get a reader's blood pressure up. But there's something else sinister going on here too. Something creepy stalkerish and Felicity is caught in the cross-hairs.

That doesn't sit well with Westley and not just because he feels responsible for Felicity because she's under his command. That right there is the problem due to the Air Force's non-fraternization policy. Both their careers will be in jeopardy if Westley can't get a hold of some confusing emotions. So he is gnarly and terse and overly stoic in all his interactions with Felicity. Which should settle the matter except... "He didn't understand it. Not liking her should have been easy. She was annoyingly optimistic and bubbly." (p 30) Bwhahaha! I just adore a hero confused by love.

An impossible romance paired with two hair-raising suspense threads make this a real page-turner of a read.

This story takes place Canyon Air Force Base. A
serial killer has escaped prison and is on base.
This killer is known as the Red Rose Killer. The
killer leaves a red rose with a note prior to killing
the victim plus a red rose with a note after the
deed is done.
Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe received a red rose
plus a note.
Master Sergeant Westley James is Felicity’s boss
in the K-9 training unit. He volunteers to protect her
with one of the dogs named Dakota.
Both characters are strong, independent acting,
well defined with an undeniable chemistry between
them.
They both need to come to grips with their past to be
able to move into a future together. Will they be able
to overcome what they face?
Good mixture of suspense, mystery, murder, drama
and romance.
Very informative about military regulations and K-9
dog training. Was impressed by the dogs abilities to
protect & detect

This starts another linked series about working dogs and their handlers. After the police dogs of earlier series, we now have military working dogs. This book, I feel, suffers from having to introduce the series which will have several other authors taking over the tale. Each book will focus on a different couple, so all the main series characters are thrown at us right at the start... or that is what it feels like.

Personally I don't know much about American military installations, so this fictional Texas one, big enough to be a town, with 200 guard dogs, caterers, munitions and equipment is another area which has to be explained. I am not familiar with all the ranks and roles thrown at us; the average romance reader won't have fun wading through all the titles and initials and chains of command. Yet this serves to impose the view that this place is not the same as the normal world, and a potential relationship between an officer and his staff member would be even more inappropriate than in a normal business.

We enter as a serial killer has escaped from a nearby jail and is thought to be hiding on the base, as evidenced by a few dead people. I'm baffled by how the man has killed the guard dog trainers and let loose the aforementioned 200 guard dogs, without being bitten. One lady is on his hit list. Her officer gets assigned to guard her, with his dog. A second criminal case arises - to cover for the fact that we know the main antagonist serial killer won't be captured until the end of the series. As in the previous books about police dogs, it seems to me that a CCTV camera or two would have resolved many issues, and yet again, there isn't a camera in all of Texas. Astonishingly the couple discuss prayers every now and then, so by the end I thought the book had a thoroughly Republican feel.

So plenty of talented working dogs, but not your usual dog-lover mystery. This is a romantic suspense book for adults but does not contain mature sex scenes.
I downloaded an e-ARC from Net Galley and Fresh Fiction. This is an unbiased review.

He would protect her with his life. But he had a sinking feeling protecting his heart wouldn't be as easy.

Tasked with keeping Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe alive & safe from the “Red Rose” serial killer, Master Sergeant Westley James takes his role seriously. With the help of K-9 officer Dakota, she’s in good hands. Both are loyal, tough, protective and vigilant. When it comes to matters of the heart, however, Westley has trouble keeping the lines from blurring.

Definitely a riveting start to a new continuity series about Military K-9 officers and their partners! Terri Reed is one author who knows how to portray the hard working dogs, I always know to expect a read that will keep me glued to the pages. Not only is this about trying to catch the Red Rose killer, but also trying to find who killed Felicity’s father for information on a case that happened a year ago. This kept me guessing and I thought I had some characters pegged only to be proven wrong. I love when you can’t guess whodunit! So while the mystery of the Red Rose killer isn’t yet solved, it leaves you many clues & looking forward to the other books coming in this series to find out how they catch him. Both Westley and Felicity fight their attraction to each other for reasons that have to do with their pasts. I love learning the back stories of them both; it made me sympathetic to them and connected me in a deeper way. I also loved the camaraderie of the whole Canyon Air Force base team members & getting to meet each of them. The dogs add a special layer to the story, of course! A must read with twists you don’t see coming, a bonus two-for-one mystery, great characters, happily-ever-after love story, a plotline to keep you invested and a faith element to keep you grounded!

DNF. The plot is good but the military mistakes made the book unreadable. I am a Lt Colonel and know aloy about the military stuff.

i.e. Enlisted don’t salute other enlisted and contracts are not given because the general wants it. Finally the mission of the base did not earn a 3 star general.

I read this book because my daughter (age 12) has enjoyed all the K-9 books LIS has put out. I bought her 6 or the Brooklyn K-9 series titles for Christmas.

As an Air Force veteran and military spouse, I couldn't get past the errors to enjoy the story. The author would have done well to include someone with basic knowledge of the AF on her team of beta readers.

Overall, a good story. The thing that killed it for me was the lack of research on military protocols, traditions, and lifestyle. Enlisted do not salute other enlisted, senior NCOs or not. And officers are saluted indoors ever time you see them. Also, NCOs are never “commanding officers.” If you have any past military experience, this may ruin the story for you. I’m struggling to finish it for this reason alone.

As a huge fan of Terri Reed's writing, I have been looking forward to reading this book. And it definitely didn't disappoint. It has the perfect mix of romance, suspense, and Christian faith-based elements. The story is intense, riveting, humorous, scary, and inspiring.
The K-9 stories have always had a special spot in my heart, and this story made me appreciate and respect them even more. The dogs play an important role in the story, and Dakota is a hero on his own rights.
Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe and Master Sergeant Westley James are both strong, capable characters who have deep pain and sorrow in their hearts from their past. Both of them have struggled with their relationships with their parents, both of them have overcome obstacles and made a good life for themselves, lives where they are comfortable in, where they thrive and are successful. All this could come to an end if they would act upon the attraction they feel for each other.
I loved the frenemies to romance theme that was going on here. It gave the story a dash of a thrill, angst, and humor to see Felicity and Westley find a way over the walls they had built around themselves to protect their hearts, and thus their future lives in the air force.
The danger surrounding the base with the serial killer on the loose is constant, the intensity is high, and the attacks and crimes keep piling up, creating confusion and distraction. The series continues with the hunt for the serial killer, thus a little cliffhanger at the end, but the crimes in this story were satisfactorily solved.
A captivating and intriguing story that was easy to get lost in. The characters were alluring, their faith in God inspiring, their strength and willingness to serve was heartening, their connection to each other was true, honest and fervent. The scare and terror the killer created was a constant factor yet the military staff handled the cases with cool, calm, professionalism that was impossible not to admire.
I enjoyed the story immensely, looking forward to more in the series.

Mission to Protect by Terri Reed

Terri Reed is a new author to me, and just let me say I will definitely be reading more from her!
Her newest Love Inspired book Mission to Protect is action packed and full of suspense right from the very first page. I literally didn't want to put it down!
This is the first book in the Military K-9 Unit continuity series of 9 books total. This series is off to a great start and I can't wait to read the following books!

This fast-paced Christian fiction book is packed from the start.
This is Book #1 in the Love-Inspired Suspense series called Military K-9 Unit,
a continuity series by different authors.
Did I mention very hard to put down??

Missing military dogs, murders, a rose with a note,
an accident that might have been a murder,
OSI and Security Forces keep running in circles,
and a protection detail that turns into a love story.
Don't worry too much: there's 2 "happy endings,"
but cliff-hangars remain to keep you reading the rest of the series!

Not too hard to guess:
Westley is definitely at the top of the favorite characters list.
Felicity is tough but has her own issues.
"Dakota" and "Queenie" come to the rescue more than once!
Agent Ian Steffen is a good guy who eventually straightens Westley out.
Nosy reporters hang around, making everyone extra wary.
Lieutenant General Hall is in command with a mystery that hasn't been solved
while trying to keep the jittery, high-alert base running smoothly.
And at least one deranged murderer on the loose...or are there more than one? Who's helping?

My favorite conversation:
"Thank you again.
I appreciate your willingness to see to my safety."

"The truth is, I should have known that the car was there
I should have been prepared for something to happen.
I won't be caught unaware again."

"Please, you couldn't have foreseen
a near miss with a base truck.
I didn't see it."

"But it's MY JOB to see the threat before it gets to you."

"Well ... you're not a superhero."

"Maybe that's what you need.
Someone else to protect you better."

"STOP IT. I want you to protect me.
Now start this car and get us home."

Conversation between Staff Sgt Felicity and Master Sgt Westley

Thank you Net-Galley, Author and Harlequin for the chance to read this story. No form of payment was received and this is my thoughts and only my thoughts on this story.

This is a Love-Inspired Suspense book 1 in the Military K-9 Unite. Each book in this series is a continuation brought to you from another author, one book a month from April to December I believe. I believe this is the first book I have read by this author or it has been a long time since I have read her.

I loved the characters in this story. Felicity is a strong leading character whose life is so not going great, she is in the sights of a serial killer, she is grieving the death of her dad, having nightmares. She never gets any positive feedback from her boss. Westley is the other leading character, he is Alpha. He runs the K9 unit and he expects the best from his crew. He is also Felicity's supervisor. Yes, he harder on her then the others it seems.

This story gripped me from the get go and I didn't want to put it down. I loved the chemistry between the characters and I loved the dogs! I haven't read a military book in a long time that involved the K9 unit and I am glad I took this opportunity to do so at this time.

One of the mysteries in this story I did figure it out pretty early on. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens next.

I love the stories about K-9s and their partners/handlers. Felicity's life is in upheaval. Her father recently passed away, her boss rarely gives her positive feedback, she is having nightmares, and there is a serial killer who has named her as a target. Westley is Felicity's superior. He runs the K-9 program for the army and expects the best of everyone under his command.

Westley may be a bit harder on Felicity than the others but that isn't because he doesn't like her. It is quite the opposite. He doesn't want anyone to realize he may just have a crush on a certain lady under his command. When her life is threatened, from multiple sources, he is determined to keep her safe. His problem may be keeping his heart from becoming involved. I really like how the two of them are concious of their positions but love will find a way. I did figure out who the bad guy was before the 'reveal' but I still enjoyed the story!

It was a 4/5 for me. I look forward to the next book and some answers to lingering questions!

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

First in a multi-book series entitle Military K-9 Unit. This tale focuses on Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe and her boss Master Sergeant Westley James who runs the kennel and training of the K-9 dogs. Felicity works for him, but after a killer murders four other Air Force personnel on base and leaves a note in her mail box along with a red rose saying she's next, she's reassigned to the photography unit, in hopes that her wanderings around the base will flush out the killer. The problem is, the recent death of her father, thought to be accidental, seems to have been murder, also. And when someone breaks into Felicity's house and ransacks it, it's clear she could be a possible victim of two different killers! Yikes!

What is solved by the end of the story relates to her father, with a nasty surprise when the murderer is identified in the midst of growing romance between Felicity and Westley. What remains unsolved is who the Red Rose Killer is, where he is, and when he may strike again. Possibly to encourage the reader to dive into the 2nd and later installments of the series.

I really enjoy reading Terry's books. This is the start of a new series that shall be fascinating. For it will be different authors. I loved this one. Its a story about the Red rose killer. In this story I met Staff Sgt Felicity Monroe and Master Sgt Westley James of the K-9 unit. There is a killer on the lose and is after certain military personal. In this story their is a twist that is really fascinating that has you wondering who is really after Felicity. You also learn that in the military falling in love is not all cut and dried. For if you are in the same unit decisions need to be made. I love the fact that Terry made the military understandable for people who aren't in it. I also liked the twists in the story and the hunt for 2 killers in the story. The ending is sad and happy in away. But I'm looking forward to the rest if the books if they are like this one. Terry this was great. J

Because this is the first of a series, the author has to spend time introducing the characters in the following books which does take some time. This series centers around the need to capture and rearrest an escaped killer who has a grudge against several people at the Air Force base in Texas where the story takes place. In this novel, Felicity is in danger because the killer has left her his calling card: a rose along with a note saying, "You're next!" Master sergeant Westly James is assigned to keep her safe until the "rose killer" is found. As they work together, the two are able to find out who killed Felicity's father. Ms. Reid was very clever in making me believe one character was the murderer while he wasn't. It is always fun to try to find out who has committed the crime, and the clues are there. I enjoyed this novel and appreciate the work the writers of this series do to bring enjoyable reading possibilities to those of us who like to read.

3.5 rating. Military K-9 Unit series is me book series by multiple authors. The first book in the series, Mission to Protect, is written by Terri Reed. Ms. Reed introduced the serial killer, Boyd Sullivan aka The Red Rose Killer.
Sullivan has escaped prison and has found his way onto Canyon Air Force Base. He is targeting anyone he feels disrespected him while he was in basic training.
One of his targets is Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe. She is a trainer in the military working dog training facility. Her boss Master Sergeant Westley James and his K-9 partner Dakota are her protection detail. Westley knows there is something else going on besides the serial killer threat. Felicity confessed that her father had been murdered and that she was being stalked by her father’s murderer.
I really liked this installment. I hope the rest of the series is just as good.

This is book one in the Military K-9 Unit, so what a great place to start. This book is full of mystery, suspense, sparks, surprises, romance and more. If you like books to come to a complete ending, you will not be happy with this one, however if you can hang in there for the next book you will love it. This book ties up some loose ends but not all.

Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe loves her job working with the K-9 unit, however her handsome boss, Master Sergeant Westley James, can certainly get on her nerves. When the Red Rose killer makes her a target, Westley must protect her at all cost.

I love the sparks that fly between Felicity and Westley, they both have things they need to work though, but their chemistry is great. I look forward to reading more in this series.

This is going to be a fantastic series!! Mission to Protect is the first story in the Military K-9 Unit Series. When the Red Rose Killer leaves his calling card for Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe, Master Sergeant Westley James and his canine companion Dakota must do everything in their power to protect her. No one can be trusted as Felicity and Westley try to stay ahead of the Red Rose Killer. Can Westley protect Felicity from the Red Rose Killer or is there more danger to be found?

I can't wait to read the rest of the stories in this series!!!

A serial killer has escaped prison and threatened numerous members of the military, focused on Canyon Air Force Base. The killer has threatened numerous women who dated him and declined to date him again. Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe is one of the women who has been threatened. Westley, her supervisor at the K-9 Training Center, vows to protect her. He doesn't plan on falling in love, though. Oh well.

DNF in a page and a half. Which is about on par with the Love Inspired: Suspense genre for me. Mostly I'm just trying to get the garbage ones out of my collection. When you buy by the bag, you end up with books like *THIS* one.

It starts off with too much information shoved into sentences: "The back door of Canyon Air Force Base's military working dog training facility stood open." This is *NOT* an opening sentence, this is a jammed up MESS. Too much. And it goes ON that way: "Alarm slithered thru head trainer Master Sergeant Westley James like the venomous red, yellow and black coral snake inhabiting this part of Texas. Not kidding - this is like EIGHT sentences jammed into TWO, and too much of an information dump to be a 'hook' of an introduction to the reader.

In short? Terri Reed *CANNOT* write.

Oh, but it gets better. Head trainer Master Sergeant Westley James of Canyon Air Force Base's military working dog training facility finds TWO dead bodies inside, and *ALL* of the dogs missing. Under the ARMS of both people is A ROSE and a note, the calling card of the notorious ROSE killer!!!!! EGADS!!!!

First, how does ONE note and rose fit under TWO dead people's separate arms? WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. HECK?!?! Second, how does *anyone* outside of the federal investigation know the 'calling card' of any serial killer? You think they make that shit public? NO, THEY DON'T. That's to say nothing about the mess/hassle of dinking around with ALL of those dogs would be. GAHHHH!!

I... can't even. I was done after the first twelve paragraphs. FOR GOOD. This should never have been published, and there's NO WAY I'm gonna ever recommend anyone even look in this book's direction. It's crap. Buh-bye.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Mission to Protect. This is the first book in the continuity series Military K-9 Unit. This series is really great. I love the fact that the authors in this series are some of my favorite writers. This book is well written, action packed and full of faith. You are going to love it.

Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe receives a red rose and a note from the Red Rose Killer. The killer is Boyd Sullivan. He had been caught and sent to prison but is now free and somehow has come onto Canyon Air Force Base. Sullivan is targeting those who he felt caused him to be discharged. Felicity is a trainer in the K-9 Unit. Two of the trainer were killed last night by the killer and all the dogs were released. Did he mean to kill the girl or did he think it was Felicity, she was suppose to have worked that shift? Her handsome boss who barely acknowledged her becomes her protector.

Master Sergeant Westley James works with Felicity training dogs. He has been attracted to her from day one. He has decided he will not act on the attraction and sometimes he treats her a little rougher than others. When he finds she is one of the targets he volunteers to work on her protective detail. He and his partner Dakota must keep her safe.

A dangerous journey of running from a serial killer intent on revenge. God has a plan for these two; a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too. You may not have a serial killer after you but you do have someone who want to steal, kill and destroy you. Jesus came to give you life and that more abundantly. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.

Set at the fictional Canyon Air Force Base, the overarching mystery is a serial killer known as the Red Rose Killer. This is a series of books that will publish each month from April to December from different authors. Some I have read and others are unfamiliar to me, but I'm looking forward to each!

Reed, the author, describes main characters Felicity and Westley as "strong, honorable, and brave, but vulnerable enough to let down the walls around their hearts and fall in love." One thing I appreciated about this story is that the actions and concerns of these two characters seemed like something that could happen in real life. There were no larger-than-life muscles, male posturing, arrogance, crazy shooting scenes with millions of bullets flying, movie-like seduction scenes, or scared-female-acting-irresponsibly scenes. Instead, I felt like I saw how two people would respond in intense and dangerous situations, with genuine feelings growing between them.

The Christian aspects were obvious but not a key element; both characters prayed at several different times and their thoughts reveal that they decide to trust God for safety. The story is, of course, squeaky clean.

I rated this five stars - it's an excellent start to the series. The full review will publish in April at my review site: www.ReadingObsession.com

"Mission to Protect" is a romantic suspense. Felicity not only recently lost her military-police father to what looked like an accident but she's potentially a target of a serial killer. Her boss, K9 trainer Westley, gets permission to use one of the trained dogs and act as her bodyguard. They started off with him secretly attracted to her but determined to keep his distance by being hard on her. She thinks he doesn't even like her, but once she hears his sad story and he saves her life, she's suddenly willing to immediately marry him. Frankly, she seemed more in love with their roles (my love will heal him, and he'll protect me!) than him. Since they did work well together during the story and cared for each other, I don't actually object to the match.

My main problem was that the protection K9 was supposedly highly trained and Westley was an experienced trainer, yet he first assumed "oh, he's misbehaving!" when the dog tried to warn them of danger. Much of the suspense was this delay in Westley realizing he needed to figure out what danger the dog was reacting to. I mean, duh, it took a vet to point out the obvious at the end.

There was no sex or bad language. Overall, the investigation into Felicity's father's death was interesting enough even if the K9 aspect wasn't realistic.

When Felicity Monroe wakes from a nightmare to find a red rose and a note in her house, she knows that Boyd Sullivan, the Red Rose Killer, has her in his sights along with the other members of her K-9 training class. When she learns that two of her co-workers had been murdered during the overnight hours, and every one of the dogs in the facility has been turned loose, she doesn't have time to grieve the loss. She starts helping to gather as many of the dogs as she can, but is she safe anywhere on base?

Felicity's boss, Master Sergeant Westley James, has been a tough taskmaster, mostly to cover his attraction to the beautiful K-9 handler. When he learns of the danger she is in, he takes it up the chain of command and is stunned to be assigned, along with his K-9 Dakota, as her personal protection detail. As the attempts on her life mount, will he and Dakota be enough to keep her out of harm's way? And, is the Red Rose Killer really behind these attempts or is something else behind the danger that dogs her steps?

Terri Reed's books are ALWAYS worth the read, and Mission to Protect kept me engaged from start to finish. This is the first in the Military K-9 unit series, and the action barely gives the characters time for a breather. I look forward to reading the next one!

I'm officially tapping out on this one after spending a month or so trapped around fifty percent. There's nothing explicitly wrong with this, but I'm not a big reader of category romantic suspense - it strikes me as facile and inaccurate. This is the start of a series in which a serial killer and former military man known as "the Red Rose Killer" has escaped from prison and has started going after his former colleagues... for reeee-venge! Because it's part of a series, the actual Red Rose Killer is a nebulous threat and there have to be sub-mysteries involved, and the complexity of all that is something that doesn't really work for me. (Again, I think this is typical of category romantic suspense, and certainly not a fault of this book.) That said, it's also an inspirational, meaning that the leads of this book - and everyone who is set up as a potential lead for future books in the series - are all Christian-by-default; the only people who are not devout Christians are evil. (I think, in fact, the only person who is explicitly mentioned as not being a devout Christian is... the Red Rose Killer. Great.)
