Τη διαδρομή του (Χάλκη-Πόλη-Βιέννη-Αθήνα έως την εποχή που άρχισαν τα πυκνά ταξίδια του στην Ευρώπη και τη Λατινική Αμερική για τις παρουσιάσεις των βιβλίων του), με τους δασκάλους του, τα διαβάσματα, τις σπουδές, την καριέρα του στα τσιμέντα Τιτάν, το θέατρο, τον Κάρολο Κουν, το σινεμά, τα σενάρια με τον Θόδωρο Αγγελόπουλο, την τηλεόραση, τον Μπρεχτ, τις μεταφράσεις, το αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα, την πρώτη "επίσκεψη" της οικογένειας του αστυνόμου Κώστα Χαρίτου, και όχι μόνο, τα αφηγείται ο ίδιος ο συγγραφέας σ' αυτό το απολαυστικό βιβλίο. Ο Μάρκαρης αγαπάει και σέβεται τους αναγνώστες του κάθε φορά που γράφει. Και είναι ο λόγος που καταθέτει με μεγάλη εντιμότητα την προσωπική του εξομολόγηση και σ' αυτό το κείμενο.

About the author

Petros Markaris (Greek: Πέτρος Μάρκαρης) was born in Istanbul to an Armenian father and a Greek mother. He is one of the most successful living Greek authors. After studying economics, Markaris went on to work as a screenplay writer. He has lived in Germany and Austria for several years and translated Goethe and Brecht into Greek. International fame came through his series of crime novels featuring the eccentric Athenian detective Kostas Haritos, of which there are now five. Markaris lives in Athens and also co-writes film scripts with Theo Angelopoulos.

Ανήκει στη σειρά "Η κουζίνα του συγγραφέα" (όπως και "Ο χρόνος πάλι" της Τριανταφύλλου) όπου διάφοροι συγγραφείς αυτοβιογραφούμενοι εξηγούν πως γράφουν.
Τίποτα σπουδαίο, προσφέρει κάποιες ενδιαφέρουσες (;) πληροφορίες για το πως γεννήθηκε ο Αστυνόμος Χαρίτος, τους τσακωμούς στην Ελεύθερη Σκηνή, τη συνεργασία του με τον Αγγελόπουλο, ως εκεί.

Se, come me, avete scelto di leggere questo libro per il vosto amore nei confronti di Kostas Charitos e della penna che lo ha creato, apprezzerete le parti del libro che in qualche modo vi riportano alle atmosfere dei romanzi. In particolare, ho trovato godibili e interessanti i passi in cui Markaris descrive il suo rapporto con le città della sua vita (Istanbul e Atene), cosa che si ritrova in maniera evidente nei romanzi (Istanbul solo in "La balia", almeno per quanto riguarda i romanzi che ho letto io fino a questo momento).
Il resto, in particolare quello che riguarda il teatro (frequentissimi i riferimenti a registi/attori/opere prettamente greci) e il lavoro di traduttore, è a mia opinione un po' troppo da addetti ai lavori - cosa che io non sono - per poter essere apprezzato da tutti.
Comunque piacevole.

Piacevole lettura questa dello scrittore Petros Markaris che ci narra l'incontro tardivo e inaspettato del Commissario Charitos cui darà voce negli anni in numerosi romanzi. Conoscere una storia di vita è sempre interessante, se poi è quella di un autore di cui vogliamo iniziare a leggere dei libri, direi che è quasi indispensabile.

il titolo dato alla versione italiana è sicuramente stato scelto per accattivare i lettori seriali della saga di Charitos, ma il libro non è solo Charitos, anzi, è molto di più e le pagine più interessanti le ho trovate nella sezione dedicata al suo lavoro di traduttore!! ;-)
