Can love save a man too broken to care?

Near genius code breaker and hacker, Kade Ember is struggling. As the steady, switched on brother in the group, he hates to admit he needs help.

Every day the battle intensifies against the mysterious, and deadly, State. Kade is lost in his work, and uncertain why he’s still fighting. The State, a shadowy, violent new leader, who wiped out the planet’s rulers and destroyed the dragons, spin tyranny through people’s lives like it’s normal. They destroy and ruin anyone who speaks against them – and their top target is the Ember brothers.

Kade never rests, dedicated to ensuring their resistance movement remains hidden. But he's fading, fast.

Then a mysterious message from a woman in Kade’s past jerks him into action. She’s living among the fierce rule of the State, doing their bidding, and helping them destroy and subdue the population. A single word from her makes him realize there’s something bigger to fight for.

Honor Davenport has two goals: keep her smart mouth shut and use her DNA knowledge to eradicate all disease from the world. As a key figure in the genetics company, Intergen, Honor unwittingly provides the State with knowledge of human DNA, and it’s manipulated to increase their power. But her curious mind is her downfall, as she speculates on unusual DNA she’s analyzed. Suddenly, she’s branded an enemy and has the threat of death hanging over her. Her message to Kade was a desperate one, a last gasp to hold onto life before the State destroy her. She never thought he’d creep through the night, risk everything, and set her free. But Honor has no clue what the Ember brothers are truly fighting for, and she’s oblivious to the danger the State presents.

When they join forces, it’s more than chemical reactions drawing Kade and Honor together. Kade wants Honor by his side, but first, he has to make her believe everything the State stands for is a lie. But in doing so, he risks her life. A chance to show her the truth puts them in peril, but stubborn Honor won’t stop probing and questioning and discovers much more than a lie. She discovers love, loyalty, and the truth.

Note to readers: This post-apocalyptic, dystopian sci-fi contains romance with action (think mysterious, tyrannical powers, gunfights, and hand-to-hand combat), battle-hardened warriors (my gorgeous, former soldiers and brothers) and life-changing, smile-inducing, heart clenching romance. 18+ only!

Q & A with the Author
Q - How would you describe the series?
A – Love wins against everything. It makes broken men heal, bitter women laugh, and damaged people use their last breath to save the people they love. It’s about the toughness of the human spirit, not giving up. The series is science fiction romance with a dose of dystopian sharpness and a dash of military muscle. There’s full on adventure and romance. The bonds of love, friendship, and family run through the books. Not just the brothers' bond but the deep bonds formed when people fight together in adversity.

Q - Why write this series?
A – Heroes rising against impossible odds. Love, action, romance, all mixed up. Swoon! Science fiction opens new possibilities for forming unbreakable bonds between people fighting for their lives. I love the idea of a strong family, working together to protect themselves and fighting for something so much bigger; their soulmate and the planet.

Q - What order should I read them?
A - The books have stand-alone romances in them, but the action arc grows with each book.

Arcadia Shield is at the top of SFR authors as far as I’m concerned, and the reasons why are well evidenced in her The Ember Quest books and especially in Kade, it’s book 2. It’s definitely the “post-apocalyptic, dystopian sci-fi” action romance promised in its kindle blurb and works beautifully in each of these genres. It’s also superbly plotted and written, and filled with characters like it’s leads Honor and Kade, who are fascinating and multi-layered. Great fun to read and very highly recommended.

Second book in the series. We get to know Kade this time. He is a genius with computers and it takes an email from an old acquaintance to get him away from them. But now he needs to help her and brake some more laws doing it. But he might do anything for the sexy woman that may be even smarter than him.

The series is a new take on the governments of the world be overthrown. But in this one the dragons used to protect us but have now all been killed. One group of brothers are working on bringing them back and saving humanity.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.
