BEACH WEDDING is the fifth story in the Emerald Isle, NC Stories series and the third full-length novel. If the reader would like to read the Emerald Isle series in order (recommended), here’s the list: BEACH RENTAL (novel), BEACH TOWEL (short story), BEACH WINDS (novel), BEACH WALK (novella), and BEACH WEDDING (novel).
Book Description: Along the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Crystal Coast ~ from the Front Street Gallery in Beaufort, NC, to the beaches of Emerald Isle and across the sound to Morehead City ~ Maia Donovan has watched her friends find true love, and has dreamed of her own happily-ever-after, but wishes and reality don’t always match up.
When Maia met Joel Sandeford, she thought she’d found a man worth risking another broken heart over. But she’s hesitant. Joel lives out of town and always seems to be working. Maia, too, works long hours and spends most of her time managing the Front Street Gallery. She fears the distance and their work ethics may spell disaster.
Maia doesn’t realize the biggest impediment to her happily-ever-after may be herself, and the memories she’s hiding in her heart—that part of her heart that still belongs to her first true love.
If Maia can’t resolve her fears and give up those old feelings, then finding her happily-ever-after may become an impossible dream, and a waste of a heart ready for love.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series and was anxious to begin this one. However, the continued theme of self pity and personal angst led to to skip numerous paragraphs hoping to find something more believable and interesting. Not sure what happened to the author on this one ... advise not to waste your time spending the first hundred pages reading about a grown women's obsession with her lack of a relationship. When the confrontations occurred, they were well written and interesting, but too few and far between the self pity and continuing angst.
You'd think someone different wrote this book. This is less about Maia and more about Frannie and Juli whose story while interesting, just got annoying because I was waiting for Maia and Joel to figure things out. Instead we get an overwritten internal monologue of a woman who completely overthinks things, is still grieving the loss of Ben, and Joel who can't seem to stand up to his father. And who eventually does but we don't get to read this at all.
This book actually brought the whole series down for me. It was overwritten, disjointed and Maia, as described here, doesn't seem match what we know about her from books 1 and 2.
"Sometimes kindness comes when we least expect it, when we've done nothing to earn it, and we must simply accept it because we need it and it's there." This is the fifth book in Grace Greene's Emerald Isle, NC stories and it a "Must Read" for anyone who enjoys love, heartbreak and reconciliation in their lives and in books. The descriptions of the ocean waves, the storefront shops in town and the old home at Bridle Cove which is almost crumbling, will allow you to sit and reflect on Maia, Juli, Joel, Brian and Frannie as they each need to discover and reach for happiness and peace in their lives. Can Maya learn to encompass the love she lost? Can Frannie and Brian be happy together? Can Juli continue to feel loved and secure as she attains informations about her past as a child? I read this novel slowly, to full absorb the quotes and words of wisdom that were written in the lines of the plot. "Do we ever stop loving people to whom we gave our hearts? Even when these people are gone? Are we supposed to ? Aren't we allowed to cherish their memory?"
A beautiful story and definitely a tissue box is needed at times.
This story takes the reader to the Outer Banks in North Carolina specifically the Emerald Isle. We will meet several characters with secrets in their past or situations in the present that are holding them back moving into the future. They will need to discover within themselves how to accept who they really are before the necessary changes can be made for them to reach a happy existence Maia Donavan lives and works in this area of North Carolina. She is always relied upon to be there for her friends. She lives and breathe her work in an art gallery. Now she finds all her close friends finding love leaving her longing, lonely and frustrated. Maia seems to be the one to help everyone. The one everyone counts on to pitch in with their problems. Will she ever be able to help herself?? Joel Sandeford has an interest in Maia but he has family and work issues that interfere with him finding himself enough to make the necessary changes for his happiness. Will he be able to break free of his sense of obligation?? This is an intricately woven story of characters that jump off the pages. You will feel their deep pain plus rejoice when they overcome circumstances. You will witness their interactions of deceit, loss and grieving, fear to love, forgiveness, friendship, trust and love. The writing style flows smoothly. The descriptive scenes are very vivid, colorful and fluid. The reader will feel as if they are present with the characters in every scene. This is book # 3 in the Emerald Isle, NC series. It can be read as a stand alone as the author gives a brief synopsis of the other books at the beginning making it easy to follow. A highly recommended read!! I volunteered to read Beach Wedding. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
I love a good romance as much as the next woman but sometimes the sweep you off your feet perfection gets a bit boring. In previous books, Maia came off as perfect, never did wrong kind of person and I thought, " Nobody is this perfect! ". I was right, and relieved. I thought it was refreshing to get an inside look to what was really going on in her head. She is truly a good human with a big heart, but those with big hearts do have genuine feelings that sometimes get overlooked. She gets frustrated just like everyone else and sometimes it gets too overwhelming and escapes, whether we want it to or not. I was hesitant after reading some of the other reviews but I am glad I decided to be my own judge. I recommend reading this, especially if you read the previous books too. Now I can't wait to read what happens next for Maia.
Maia was so sweet in the first two books, and this one just made it seem like she was hiding a nastiness lurking beneath the surface. She wasn’t a likable character, in my opinion. She was all anger and resentment. There was nothing to endear her to the reader to build up that reader relationship, which was disappointing. She may have been a “good person”, but it feels shallow after reading this book.
I liked the first book in this series but the second was not as good and this one was so slow and torturous to read! I felt no love connection between Joel and Maia. I liked Maia’s character in the first two books but in this book she was not likable at all! I keep thinking that the book would get better but....No.
I enjoyed the previous Emerald Isle series but this one was dreadful. I struggled to finish the book. Main character was so self-centered and at times came across as bi-polar - constantly throwing herself a pity party. For supposedly every ones friend, I got the feeling that was an act and down deep she was just mean-spirited.
I enjoyed this entire series. Each story had a powerful theme. It doesn't hurt that I grew up in the Emerald Isle, Morehead City, Beaufort area. So the roads, the scenery, and some of the restaurants & shops are all familiar which just adds to the enjoyment. This story focuses on Maia which in itself is an interesting name. She is the steadfast, always helpful, and cheerful friend. If you need help or someone to listen, Maia is your girl. But from Maia's viewpoint, she is the one who is not included in discussions, feels like she is left out, and in some ways is just being used. Have you ever felt that way? You think people only talk to me and are friendly when they want you to do something or need something. If these feelings are not controlled or dealt with, they can really drag you down. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. I think you will enjoy this read to see how Maia handles her inner thoughts and struggles.
The third novel in the Emerald Isle series is a beginning of many life changes for Maia, a deeper look into her inner thoughts and feelings, and her journey toward personal growth and a new found happiness and
contentment. It is also a conclusion of sorts of many unresolved issues affecting several of the main characters. From relationships to resentments o family issues. New paths are formed, new relationships accepted, forgiveness is given and received and life moves forward day by day.
Most of all, it is a novel about love, family, friends, contentment, and iving the most of each day and having Faith that the future will bring forward what is meant to be all in good time.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
In reading the reviews on book 3 I almost didn’t read it, but thankfully I really don’t follow reviews . So I started to read and did understand why som of reviews. Maia in 2 books loving caring put together. So when in several chapters she came out a lot freeky it made one wonder what the heck is the author doing to this magnificent story, especially if you were unaware of. Her feelings for Ben. And once that was reviled the whole thing made sense. And Beach Wedding was again a great and glorious read. Again I love how Grace Greene writes I shall be reading more of her books. I think one of the things I like best is her Faithfulness that she writes into her books. Thank you Ms. Greene ❤️
This book was difficult to read in that is dealt with some hard truths, truths we likely all need to come to grips with at times in our lives. Previous encounters with Maia had been filled with light and sweetness. Maia was a character with a true servant's heart. In Beach Wedding we see a different, darker, side of Maia, the side that occurs when bitterness and resentment crowd out the light. Sometimes though, the light when it returns seems all the brighter when juxtaposed against the darkness. I am grateful for this beautiful story and its lessons and reminders. Thank you, Grace Greene, for providing me with a complimentary copy without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.
This is the third book in the Emerald Isle series, but don't forget the novellas. All are great books and not to be missed.
This is Maia's story. She's been there for two of her friends, and she's still pitching in to help them out. That said she's frustrated wanting to know when her turn comes and when does she get her HEA.
One of the things I loved about this book was the fact that I was one of those late to marry girls, and I could so understand her frustration in waiting for God's time. A lesson that holds true not just for love.
This is the 3rd book in this series - it really helps to have read the first two - at this point, unless you have the patience of a saint, you get your choice of who you want to slap silly time - but people are messy and the author managed to get ALL our nastiness\heart\thoughtlessness into one book.
I read it all in one day, I think this would be better in bits, with some thinking in between, I see that now, but I still would have slapped a few hands.
I have read the other books in the series and found I enjoyed them so much I had to read this one as well. I will say it did not live up to my expectations. It was not a bad book but too much time was spent explaining the scenery than ot was actually focusing on the proposed romance. I was also not satisfied with the change in mood or the overall personality of the main character. I guess when you are used to a constant, change is unwelcome. Book was good but could have been better...
Miss is a nurturing woman who solved everyone's problems. She will drop anything to help her friends or family. She is so involved that she misses living her own life. Wrapped in sorrow over the death of the man she loved, she fears losing love again. As she helps plan her brother's wedding, she is forced to examine her life and determine what she wants her future to be. Love is in the air and Maia gets caught up in her forever. This is a realistic look at the questions of just face when planning forever.
Too much of this book and the other 2 books in the series also takes place in the character,s heads. It must be the author’s style but the bulk of the book is each character analyzing all their thoughts upside, downside, back and forth from every direction in their head. If you took out the pages that were thoughts in characters heads, you’d have very little book left. I realize it’s the easiest way for the author to get the thoughts out there but I found it excessive and found myself skipping over all the “over thinking” being done by every character.
Brian and Fran have their wedding on the beach outside Captain's Walk. Luckily, for them, even Uncle Will is well enough to fill in. The bad thing was her mother as there and she hadn't been invited. The girls are in the wedding preparedness mood so they asked Maia if she and joel were thinking of marriage. Maia has given up on marriage and resigned herself to living alone. However, Juli and Fran keep interrupting her rest. Fran wants to go see their mother's resting place and Jill is thnot wanting to go. What will they find when they get to the cemetary>
2.5 The third book was all about Maia and I thought the author did a good job of laying the ground work for her internal battle between always being the helper to having anger/resentment for always being the helper. What did me in, was the last 1/3 of the book when the Maia character just went off the rails. To have this anger/resentment because she had loved Ben and he never knew? I just couldn't accept that storyline and the direction the author choose to take. The book wrapped up in the end, but it definitely missed the mark with the Ben/Maia infatuation in my brain.
I was disappointed with this book. It was under-edited for both content and structure - full of grammar and punctuation errors as well as overly-long and tedious descriptions. Several of the complications details (plot twists?) came across as contrived and unlikely. Overall, the story just didn’t hold my attention. I did finish reading it, mostly just hitting highlights in the last half of the book.
It was good to see an ongoing character have her story told. Miah is a person who loves deeply and shares that love with her family and friends. Miah wanted to be loved like she loved and it never seem to happen. Her unrequited love almost destroyed her new love but sharing her feelings brought new hope. I enjoyed the story and will read more of the series.
I love this series. It takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions, but this well written story is worth every minute! I love Emerald Isle and it is as magical in person as it is in the book. Maia, Frannie and Juli are wonderful characters and their story is told with love and compassion by Grace Greene. I am anxious up to finish reading the rest of stories in the series!
I enjoyed the story but had a hard time with Maia being so angry and negative. Not sure I buy it. The situation with Fran and Juli also was shakey, understandable but clumsy. Loved Fran's wedding and how the situation with both of her mothers was resolved. I'm glad how it all ended but I didn't feel the tale was told as smoothly as Ms. Greene normally does.
A wonderful Faith based series of romance, friendship and enlightenment
I discovered this beautiful faith based series through my kindle unlimited subscription. It’s so rare to discover a single romance novel that isn’t infused with vivid sexual “scenes”. The Emerald Isle series is a rare gem. The author builds intimacy between the characters in a traditional sense without the intimate details. It’s quite honestly a breath of fresh air
This is a set of books and t couple of novellas stuck in. It travels through several years and relationships, including some raw emotions. The characters handle everything in a normal way. It is very refreshing to read problems handled so well. It also covers several age groups and their dispositions. I do think that you will enjoy I series of stories. Happy reading !!!
I really enjoyed the first two books of this three part series; I found both to be an interesting and captivating read.
This last book, Beach Wedding, bored me to aggravation. Much too redundant, explanatory, unnecessarily detailed, descriptive & too many deterrences. I felt it’s wordiness just kept the story lingering on & on & on with mundane, non-interesting reading.
I was so looking forward to reading this book, and I must say that it certainly didn't disappoint. This author is so very good, I wonder if even her grocery lists are inspiring. Seriously though, I have truly enjoyed every book I have read by Grace Greene. Each one has been so great that I hated to be interrupted while reading them. You'll love this book.
The story started slow for me and dragged until Maia finally started working out what was wrong. I took breaks between chapters because it moved slow, so that could have contributed to the disconnect. Once it going going though it was a great story that I could not wait to get back to.
I was not a fan of the last two books in this series. This book just repeated most of what happened in the first two books. I didn't even like the main character in this book. She worked my nerves. Not enough details on her love Interest. I was truly disappointed 😞. A waste of my time.
Another satisfying beach novel to sit with and enjoy. While reflecting on the characters and the ups and downs of their daily lives, we get to know our characters a little more richly a little more fully. Their hopes and dreams discouragements, and the faith and resolve that helps them work things out.
