In this third book of the Craftily Ever After chapter book series, Maddie, Emily, Bella, and Sam accidentally tie-dye a shirt Maddie’s mother made for the mayor!
Maddie gets her knack for fashion and sewing from her mom, a seamstress. And she’s made a lot for an eight-year-old—from theater costumes, to brand-new pairs of pants, to pillows for the Craft Clubhouse. But she’s never tie-dyed before! Maddie, Emily, Bella, and Sam have lots of fun turning clothing bright, groovy colors. But then something not so bright and groovy happens. The kids accidentally tie-dye a shirt Maddie’s mother made for the mayor of the town! They try all sorts of things to fix their mistake, but nothing works. What is the foursome going to do about their tie-dye disaster?
With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Craftily Ever After chapter books are perfect for emerging readers.
Really enjoy this little series. It's one of the few chapter books series that my five-year-old enjoys listening to for read-alouds. There's nothing too "dramatic" in these books, the focus is positive and I appreciate the diverse cast of characters and the focus on making/crafting. I appreciate how Maddie realizes and apologizes for the mistake she makes in this book by being too hasty and careless, but also that there is a silver lining to her mistake and that her mother learns to listen to her daughter's ideas rather than dismissing them.
I purchased the set of Craftily Ever After books (the first 4 books) for my 7-year-old daughter. This is just such a wonderfully written chapter book for children who are getting into more advanced reading. I chose this set because it dives deeper into creativity and problem solving than most books I have seen for young girls- and is still something she will want to pick up and read. My daughter is normally drawn to books with unicorns and narwhals and all that fun stuff- but I wanted her to also find a good story in reading a book that inspires her in the real world, also! So far, we have read 3 of the books together. I really do love this set. It presents each character as having their own unique skill set that will come together to solve a problem or develop a new product. At the end of the book, the author has provided an instructable for how the reader can complete the same/similar project. Highly recommend these books!
Read aloud to the younger kids. Parts of this third book in the series were over the top ridiculous and silly, but the strong friendship storyline keeps me smiling as I read aloud. I loved that in this book the main character takes responsibility for her mistakes, and that her friends back her up, offering encouragement to tell the truth and to take responsibility with her.
This is the final book in this series that our library has, and while they are cute and fun, I probably won't buy the next books for us to read.
Friendship and problem solving are some of the main themes of this sweet little book. As the title implies, the book is about tie-dying and gives instructions on how to tie-dye in the back of the book. I appreciate how the craftily ever after books have different craft themes in each of the books. A fun book!
This was great! I love doing tie-dye, so this was already a hit for me, but I loved how the group came together to make it better (I learned to add salt?!) and then also came together to fix the problem. I love the SEL team mindset/problem solving/being honest of it all. That’s what’s so great about these books. They’re SEL AND creativity based. I love the duality.
Children's first chapter book, realistic fiction. Four friends who love to create are inspired by their class discussion of the '60s to try their hands at tie-dying. Maddie leads the project, as her mother is a seamstress and she loves anything to do with fashion. Maddie's mother is creating a suit for the mayor and won't listen to Maddie's input. Though she is disappointed, she stays out of the way. Until she accidentally tie-dyes the mayor's dress shirt! This is a fun book about friendship, following your interests, and working together. It includes directions for tie-dye in the back matter.
