When Richard Paul Evans wrote the #1 best-seller, The Christmas Box, he never intended on becoming an internationally known author. His quiet story of parental love and the true meaning of Christmas made history when it became simultaneously the #1 hardcover and paperback book in the nation. Since then, more than eight million copies of The Christmas Box have been printed. He has since written eleven consecutive New York Times bestsellers. He is one the few authors in history to have hit both the fiction and non-fiction bestseller lists. He has won several awards for his books including the 1998 American Mothers Book Award, two first place Storytelling World Awards, and the 2005 Romantic Times Best Women Novel of the Year Award. His books have been translated into more than 22 languages and several have been international best sellers.
My ten year old son literally flew through these books. I was a little worried about his interest in reading since he gave up on book #4 of H.P., but this was right up his alley. He read before bed, at the bus stop, during recess, after school, and any other free time he had! Glad I kept the first book on our book shelf to get him interested and borrowed the rest from the library.
Michael vey is a wonderful series that has action adventure romance and mystery. It is about teenagers who have electric powers and form a group called the electro clan to take down the Elgen.
Michael Vey “Series” by Richard Paul Evans is a Sci -Fi/Young Adult Fiction. It’s about a normal boy named Michael that had Tourettes Syndrome(A genetic disorder that causes monotonous movements, or sounds that are unwanted), and was like any other normal 14 year old boy that lives with his mom. Except, he isn’t normal because he was born with a special gift, and trust me this gift is quite shocking. He has the power to shoot electrical bolts from the palms of his hands (for some reason he calls it “pulsing”), and another shocking fact is that he’s not alone. There are many others that have different powers that affect different things in different aspects. Including a popular girl in his school, Taylor Ridley who has the power to make people forget certain things (calls it Rebooting), and to read people’s minds. This gives Taylor and Michael a certain bond that turns into a relationship. Unfortunately, both his mother and Taylor are kidnapped by the Elgen. The Elgen used to be a major pharmaceutical company until the invention that made them famous malfunctioned. Thanks to Dr. Jim Hatch’s brilliant idea of using bio-engineered electrical rats that can power whole power plants. However, Jim Hatch is a twisted, psychotic man. Remember when I said Michael wasn’t alone? Hatch is trying to create a Legion of Electrically Powered Children behind his partners backs. One of the elgen’s major power plants (that is in Pasadena) have the electric kids training to perfect their powers. Back to the main story at hand, Hatch uses one of the electric children’s power (her name is Nichelle) to drain Michael's powers, and knocks him out unconscious. Then Hatch kidnaps his mother, and uses Nichelle’s power again to also kidnap Taylor. When he wakes up, he prepares to go to Pasadena, not knowing what kind of adventure awaits. I like the way Richard Paul Evans uses his advanced descriptive abilities, and imagery to make the reader feel as if the reader was there. I hope there will be more exhilarating books like this to make the whole human population bookworms.
(review is for the first 3/7 books, that's why the % read is only 43%) Micheal Vey is a great series that starts out very strong. This series is a first person fiction book from the point of view of a the main character, Micheal Vey. Michael seems like an ordinary kid, he goes to school, has a pretty drab social life, and is put in a very real situation with the absence of his father. A little later on we learn that Micheal is no ordinary kid, he has the ability to shock on command. With his ability he finds himself in some deep trouble with a small, but wealthy, company who comes looking for him. He recruits the help of his friends he has gained along the way and there main goal is to defend themselves and figure out why Micheal and his romantic interest have these powers. Without getting too much into spoilers, I think this series is one of the best I have read in years! I would definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for some great action or even a soft love story, I give the first 3 books 5/5 stars for their creativity, originality, action, and that soft love story that I thought was great! Richard Paul Evans has created one of the most original and action-packed series of all time.
Loved these books! So much growth from the characters, lots of fun facts/knowledge, and reality mixed with fiction! The first three books were captivating and kept me reading! Like any series, I seriously dragged through the middle two books—however one of them (I can’t remember which) went a lot into the villains mind which was very educational! I kept looking into my reality and noticing similarities. The final two books were also very engaging. They tended to have a lot of war strategies which I earnestly skipped over. There was also a last minute—almost cool—character that felt kind of pointless (Zara). I also felt like the way things went with Vey were very odd. I wasn’t 100% ok with it, but enjoyed the ending. I definitely hope that AMC (the ones that directed the tv show “the walking dead’) turn this into a tv show!
Okay, so there was a time in 5th grade where I HATED reading, but we were required to read the first book so I did. I always thought reading had to be boring and hard to comprehend, but I was invested in this book as soon as I started reading it. I was even more determined to read it because most of my class was competing to finish it. I ended up reading all 7 books and I must say this is my favorite book series so far. For a while, I stopped reading because I couldn’t find any other series that had me as invested as this one did. Not only is it a story about a boy who discovers he has powers, but it also has relatable characters, love interests, and I must say it is fairly diverse. I 100% recommend and I would give anything to read this book again for the first time.
These books were really well thought out and put together. I love the way he puts together his books they keep me hooked and are really enjoyable. These books have some amazing character development. They also have an amazing love story. I love the action as well through out the entire series. I also loved the way they ended it. I hope they make a sequel series to go off on the kids and everything and the future of everything.
I thought these books were REALLY GOOD! If not for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, these would be my favorite. The characters are great, the plot is half-creative but there are a lot of spins on it that make it feel more original. I like the character's personalities, and feel like the interactions are pretty realistic, instead of something pulled from AI-Dungeon
We listened to the audio versions of these. They are SO well done. These are clean and family friendly but not dumbed down where adults aren't going to stay very interested. I cannot recommend this series enough. Just when we thought the series had ended, bam! Here comes a new book.. just released book 8! And it was wonderful too I can tell the new Michael veg series is going to be just as good.
I read these books as they came out, they hold such a huge price of my heart because I’ve grown to love the characters and I can’t recommend these books enough. Even getting a lighting bolt tattoo :-p
Very well written. Every chapter leaves you wanting to go on. Characters are well introduced and stay true to their personalities. Loads of characters by the end of the 7th book, but they are all tied together well and you don't get lost.
A really good series! I have no regrets in reading it. I had a hard time putting these books down. Read them anywhere I could. :) The suspense killed me the first time around. Would definitely read again. I'm now reading these to my younger 10-year old sister.
It was fun to read these alongside my daughter. Quite dark and graphic in places, but I was able to have some good conversations with her about appropriate reactions and treatment of other people.
