Rate this book
Summer romance is in the air. Michelle Dalton’s fresh and sweet novels, Fifteenth Summer and Sixteenth Summer , are now available together in one paperback edition!

In Fifteenth Summer Chelsea spends the summer at her grandmother’s lake house. This is the first time her family has been back to visit the cottage since her grandmother died, and Chelsea is feeling all kinds of sad until she meets a handsome and funny local named Josh. Their sweet whirlwind romance saves her summer while making her feel both special and beautiful. But summer has to end sometime and that means Josh has to stay behind…

Will Chelsea’s summer love fade away or glow brighter than ever?

In Sixteenth Summer Anna and Will meet in the throng of tourist-filled monotony on Dune Island. Their sparkling summer romance shakes up Anna’s boring summer routine and causes her to fall madly in love with Will. But as each summer sun sets, Anna realizes her seasonal romance is winding down and Will must return to New York at the end of August. How can Anna rationalize a passionate summer romance when forever isn’t even a possibility?

Can these fleeting summer romances survive the heat?

Yay! I finally finished this book! Oh, where to begin...

So I bought this book to take with me when I went up north to a lake cabin for a week. I wanted a book to match the vibe and that also took place at the lake, and I found this 2 in 1 for $5 on Amazon, so I of course had to buy it. This book features 2 Michelle Dalton novels, and I read them both. Here is my review of each!

The first story in the book is Fifteenth Summer. I read this one a few weeks ago, so forgive me if I cannot remember all of the details. The story is about fifteen year old Chelsea and her family are spending the summer at her Grandma's cottage on Lake Michigan for the first time since her Grandma's passing. Chelsea is expecting the summer to be sad and uncomfortable, but then she meets Josh, a relatively new boy in town who's parents own a bookshop. The premise of this story sounds *chefs kiss* AMAZING right off the bat. A little cliche, sure, but great nonetheless. I would have loved it, but the writing just did not feel up to par. No offense to Michelle Dalton, but it felt like I was reading one of the stories I would write in my free time in fifth and sixth grade. Mediocre dialogue and cringey writing. Overall just not as great as I was hoping for. As the story progressed, it grew on me more, I will say. It wasn't awful, but it's probably not a book that I will be looking to re-read ever.

The second story in the book is Sixteenth Summer. This story is about sixteen year old Anna who lives on an island off the coast of Georgia. She is expecting the summer to feel the same as every year, but she meets Will, a New Yorker who is staying on the island for the summer. From the beginning I could tell that I would like this story much better than the first. The writing was much better, so much so that I honestly wouldn't be able to tell that they were written by the same author if I didn't know. The story and characters felt deeper and much more developed than those of Fifteenth Summer. It was overall easier to read than the first one and just more of a vibe. I would potentially re-read this one if I was looking for a cheesy summer romance.

One thing that Michelle Dalton did well was developing her boy characters. Josh was soooooooooo very swoon worthy and I found myself wishing I was Chelsea just so I could date Josh. Same thing with Will. Will was great too. I also loved Owen and Sam in Sixteenth Summer. Overall just some well developed males which was much appreciated.

Dalton's settings for these stories were also incredible. I absolutely LOVED Bluepointe in Fifteenth Summer and Dune Island in Sixteenth Summer. Both of these places felt so real to me and I found myself wishing I could travel to them. I loved that aspect so much.

Overall, Boardwalk Summer was a decent book. Was it worth the $5? Eh. I mean the 2 in 1 deal was pretty sick, and for that price I guess it's worth it for two mediocre books. If you like cheesy romances set in the summertime, these books are exactly that. Not something that you would want to read if you are looking for excellent writing, but if you want something easy and fun, then go for it :-)

p.s. I'm not joking I love Josh and Will so much they are great. Read these books just for those boys <3

Very slow paced book, the first summer I really enjoyed but the second summer was very hard to stay focused in

Sixteenth summer ending epic get back together was probably the most cheesy and dramatic ending ever. They yell I love you at each other in the pouring rain and then make out. It was cute but fifteen summer was better.

Before reading this two wonderful stories, I didn't think that I could fell so related to someone. Sometimes I felt like I was reading my own thoughts, future thoughts to be precise. Both novels are heartbreakingly beautiful and they are going to my top shelf. This is the best summer story I have ever read and they will both clench into my heart forever. Cannot emphasize enough how much I loved it. My heart is aching. As a teenager, I could understand what they were going though, even though I've never had a summer flea, but I can say with absolute certainty that is is so accurate and that what the characters go through, is completely normal. Without doing spoilers of any kind, you have to read this book. You just have to. There are millions of reasons, but mostly, if you believe in love no matter what the circumstances are, this is your book. Two books actually.

I loved these books! The first one (fifteenth summer) was amazing. I loved that it was a book centered around a bookstore relationship during the summer. I honestly didn’t think the second one could be any better. I was so wrong!!! The second book (Sixteenth summer) was one of the best romantic summer books I’ve ever read. I love that it was so descriptive about their relationship and she got to show him all of these amazing parts of her town. It was even great when they made up in the rain!! How more romantic can that get!! The only thing I didn’t like about sixteenth summer was that it ended that summer. I would love the author to write another book about what happens after Will goes back to New York and how they keep their relationship alive. Plus how she copes with all the memories of him in her small town. All in all these two books were amazing!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

But what happened with long distance relationships? What's wrong with video chats, texts, emails, letters, phone calls? Why not talk about it, why does the relationship has to end like if they can't reach each other in any other way?

This author and I have a different understanding of being in love. Is like you are not even trying like you are quitting even before the race starts.

The stories were kind of boring especially the first one, the second one was better but still it frustrated me that I knew It was going to have the same ending as the first one. I like more the Best friends romance than the MC romance by far but that other story wasn't with this book theme, such a waste.

Terrific packaging two summer romances in one book. Fifteen Summer wasn’t as fulfilling as Sixteenth Summer. But that can be related to character age, experience and personality. I liked visiting types of vacation spots I’m not familiar with but can dream about visiting. I love a bookstore and an ice cream shop anywhere. Boardwalk Summer is a good choice to take along on a trip or just a summer read.

While reading this, I did not think I would come to be so related to someone. Sometimes, I felt like I reading my own thoughts. This is the best summer/romance story I have ever read. As a teenager, I could understand what they were going through and was able to put my feet in their shoes. This is an amazing book and I would totally recommend it, especially if you believe in love.

Just dumb. Slow, no real plot. The ending was unsatisfying. Waste of my time.

This book was extremely cheesy but was entertaining if you’re looking for a girly summer teenage romance. I will say I liked “Fifteenth Summer” much more than “Sixteenth Summer”.

In all honesty these stories weren’t that good, but they really helped me out of a depressive phase I’ve been in lately, so I can’t help but want to rate them higher.

I finished this June 4, 2020, and now here finally is my review about a month later!

So, this book was a two in one deal, two different girls, two separate summers.

I’ve really been on this kick lately where I’ve been wanting to read more contemporary, real situation type books whether it be real problem plots or summery romances, so this book(s) fits the bill. Both stories in this book were great fluffy summery reads, that I did find rather enjoyable. I mean, this book as a whole has 560 pages and I read the entire thing cover to cover in an entire day, so it definitely held my attention. Plus, it was just exactly what I was looking for in a book at this time, so it for sure satisfied my needs in a book. A perfect, easy summer read:)

This book was a very good book for any reader who likes reading about teenage summer romances and the trials and tribulations of teenage life. This book was two books in one, Fifteenth Summer and Sixteenth Summer, which made it interesting to read. The books didn't connect in any way other than the physical book itself being one whole book. I highly recommend this book to any individual who wants a good summer reading book or someone who has plenty of time on their hands to read a good novel.

The pacing was too slow and there was too much telling rather than showing. This was a DNF for me.
