Recounts the successful attempt made by the authors to become the first people to complete a round-trip expedition on foot to the North Pole from Canada without being aided by support teams
Astonishing journey; I enjoyed the details that lead to their ultimate success. I also appreciated that they were willing to discuss the difficulties they encountered, physical, mental and emotional in detail.
I met Richard and his family when my family spent a week at Arctic Watch, the Somerset Island camp Richard briefly mentions in the book. The camp is quite successful and apparently a family affair (Tessum, Josee and Richard were all in residence while we were there), with all members pitching in and working quite hard to make the experience delightful for the guests.
Had to read this book as we went to visit the camp on Somerset Island in the Arctic that Richard now runs. We knew the outcome of the trips beforehand but although a spoiler, it didn't matter.
I couldn't put this book down, it was really well written by the two authors, and an exciting memoire.
Amazing accomplishment by the pair. Very brave indeed. As the book itself, it was interesting but more of a casual read. Shame to find that a documentary they were hoping to make never came to fruition, could not find any footage at all.
Great book but what a drooling experience, they really show you what it would really take to do this trip. Amazing detail and the journal style made it hard to put down.
