It’s Desmond and Andres versus the Zombie Zookeeper in the fourth book of the Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol chapter book series!
For this case, Desmond and Andres off to the zoo! Zoo field trips are the best. You get to ride in a bus, you get to spend the day outside, and all the animals are safely far away in their enclosures. Nothing scary here, right? Wrong! Leave it to Desmond Cole to find the one zookeeper who’s also a zombie.
With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol chapter books are perfect for emerging readers.
Andres Miedoso is still afraid of everything as a grown-up, even after all his adventures with Desmond Cole. He lives in New York City with his family, and he remains best friends with Desmond but returns to Kersville only when he's needed.
Another great installment in the Desmond Cole series. I'm desperately trying to catch up on the series so that I can start reading them as they release. I love that these books aren't formulaic like a lot of other children's chapter books series. I know that the repetition is great for younger readers, but I can't lie and say that as an adult reader I don't appreciate the variety. Granted, each book is about them confronting some paranormal being; however, I love that they take place in different areas and that each paranormal entity has a different personality. This one took place at the zoo which was extremely fun. Not only are readers getting the chance to see different animals, but they also get the funny, gross, and creepy things that they adore in books. If you have a younger reader that likes creepy things, this is definitely the series for them. I highly recommend it!
hello I am reading desmond cole ghost patrol.and the story was about two main character's going on a field trip to the zoo and on the school bus, they had a map and they labeled the thing they go to first and stuff.they got to the first one the giraffe's when they got there, they found a zombie zoo keeper so they changed were they went and followed the zombie zoo keeper but the zombie zoo keeper is like a regular zoo keeper but with more abilities like breathing under water, talking to animal's and other stuff.I like when they go on they go on the merry-go-round and it go's super fast.I don't like when there is a green skin zoo keeper when they know it is a zombie they should of known that it is a zombie.I rate it four star's because they had more to figure out.
The fourth book in the series and this time zoos and zoooooommmbbbiees!
I still should get to reading the third book, for some reason I missed getting that one. No clue how. But this series is relatively good to read without reading the earlier books. OK, I would recommend reading at least book 1 so you know how Desmond and Andres became friends and how the Ghost Patrol was started, but other than that, read on!
In this one the boys (and their class) are going to the zoo. I love it, I am a big fan of zoos and boy I miss them so much. Normally my hubby and I visit a zoo at least 3 or 4 times a year… but last year with Covid that was zero. sighs So this book was definitely a treat especially with the amount of fun illustrations featuring all zoo things. It was like I was with the boys in the zoo. YAS! But the zoo isn’t just a zoo, haha, it wouldn’t be Desmond Cole if he didn’t find something spooky somewhere. And this time that is a zombie zookeeper. Yep! You read that one right, a zombie zookeeper.
You can just imagine that Desmond and Andres are after it and trying to find out all about it. I had fun seeing the boys search for the zookeeper and follow him. I loved the zookeeper and it was great fun to see what he was doing that, well, normal people can’t. Like cleaning the seals habitat windows underwater without scuba gear, or just casually brushing a hippo teeth and even flossing it. I loved finding out more about him and despite them not talking to the zookeeper I had a good feeling that this guy was a good zombie. Not one to feast on humans, just a zombie happy to be in a zoo.
The ending was a delight and made me just smile so much.
The art? Fantastic once again. The style is wonderful, I love how well the expressions of Andres are captured, and more.
I need to continue reading this series! Soon! I don’t want to fly through the series in one go, haha. Recommended to all, zombies and zoos, what could go wrong?
I am really enjoying this early chapter book series, and I really think it's going to appeal to my patrons. The stories are funny, gross, and just scary enough, and though there isn't a lot of character development, Andres and Desmond make appealing leads.
It’s field trip day for Andres and Desmond and they are very excited to be exploring the zoo. But while at the giraffe habitat, they encounter a rather unusual zookeeper, so they decide to follow him. His skin is very green, he feeds lions with his bare hands, he brushes and flosses a hippo’s teeth ... this is not your normal zookeeper. And he seems to be everywhere, including the merry-go-round. Desmond is pretty sure that this zookeeper is a zombie, but wants to prove it. So where else would you have a zombie showdown but in the Nocturnal Animals of the World exhibit?
Desmond and Andres go on a school trip to the Zoo and discover that a zombie works there. At first, they can't believe their eyes but when their suspicions are confirmed they tell one of the zookeepers. It is revealed that the zombie is an actual employee at the Zoo. Turns out zombies make great zookeepers because they can talk to animals and breathe underwater.
Adorable-- a friendly zombie who finds a place where his skills are appreciated and valuable.
Something I love about this series is how the author helps the reader see that everyone can have a place in the world, whether we understand it at first or need to think a little creatively to get there 🥰
I really liked this one. I adore zombie stories anyway, so this one was super cute. I like how creative the storylines are and how much fun the characters are to follow. My nephew is going to love this one.
I noticed that in the book the main character judged the zookeeper and was afraid of him through out the whole book but in reality the zookeeper was a really nice and helpful guy. This is showing the theme don't judge a book by its cover, or in this case.
I've been treading this series with my seven year old son. He loves them and we're having fun reading together. It's a great early chapter book series to get kids independently reading chapter books.
Eleanor says: at recess in school we would play a game where zombies were chasing us. I like zombies. Zombies also scare me too. Zoombie didn’t scare me.
Momma says: this is probably my new favorite. Zoombie the zombie was so nice to the kids and it was a fun story
