Alias

Prodigious story!
Though certainly a tearjerker, ALIAS is deeply intense,poignant,unique,has that touch of the classic Cari Hunter writing style,and a perfect balance for any reader. With plotlines that could be taken from today's headlines,combining sensitive handling of impossible decisions with realistic descriptions of the fear & anger one feels when they are about to loose everything (life/freedom)--when put in any dangerous situation. Although this book is not so much a serious thriller,Ms.Hunter does a remarkable job of maintaining the suspense & mystery as the storylines converge and we/readers get to learn what did happened to the bold,feisty and strong-will Alis after the accident. Few authors can reveal such a dramatic switch early on and still maintain the mystery & intrigue. Her pacing is bolstered by her use of four narrators: Alis,Pryce,Jolanta,other supporting characters, each with their own voice and driving passion to move this storyline along. Hunter's ability to write such distinct backstories for these characters plus the incredible plot twists and intense fighting scenes was the highlight of the book for me,as it gave a real insight into most of what really took place while Alis was UC for all those months--allowing us/readers to keep track of this development while reading. Kudos to the author because she has clearly done her research and it shows in every chapter with all the careful word choice: UK Law enforcement etc.. Additionally some of her once complex characters must also face thorny situation to make their own happy ending. ( Cheers to Lex's review also!) Recommended!

4.25 Stars. It’s a Hunter book need I say more? I’ve been impatiently waiting to read this since I heard about it months ago. I’m a Hunter fan and truly believe she is one of the best lesfic crime writers out there. I’m happy to say this was just pure entertainment.
A woman wakes up in a car that has been in a horrible accident. She doesn’t know who she is or the dead passenger next to her. Detective Bronwen Pryce is called to the scene of an accident to find a woman barely conscience. Pryce can’t prove anything but something about this accident and this woman is telling her much more is going on. Can a woman with amnesia and the detective find out all the answers before it is too late?
I’m always a fan of an amnesia storyline in crime/mystery/action books. It makes it so surprises can be at any turn. I also liked that this was first person POV with the amnesia character. We find out everything as she does so the clues from the mystery unfold really well. Also being in her head you really felt everything her character was going through.
I enjoyed the setting of England and Whales. I like that Hunter doesn’t dumb things down for us American readers. There were phrases and items I had to look-up but for me that made the book feel very authentic.
My one tiny complaint was the sort of romance was a little lacking. I would have liked to have felt there were more feelings between the two characters before they jumped into bed. Sleeping together just because is fine, but if I’m going to believe these two might become a couple, I need a tad more. It’s a small complaint in comparison to how enjoyable the rest of the book was.
This was an entertaining read with mystery and excitement. If you are a Hunter fan definitely grab this. If you are a crime-mystery fan don’t pass this one up. This is the kind of book that I’m sorry when it’s over. I wish I was back at the beginning instead of the end.

“Alias” is, for the most part, a very engaging mystery-crime story, but I wish there had been more chemistry and romance between the MCs. The narration was terrific; I enjoyed her accents!
This could almost be an Alfred Hitchcock story, what with the police being made to look so incompetent and corrupt throughout the story. The MCs are both very likable, and it was interesting being in Alis’ head as she was recovering from amnesia. Was she on the take? Was she having an inappropriate relationship with a target, or an informant? MC Pryce, the doctor, is more helpful to Alis than I could understand, given that there really wasn’t much chemistry between them, but her character was necessary to advancing the mystery plot, so she exists.
At the 6 hour mark, there is one fun time when our MCs really get to know each other…really!…but in typical lesfic drama fashion, one quickly regrets making a move and much noncommunication ensues. Our MCs don’t go on a real date until nearly 8 hours into the book, and the book is 8 hours and 2 minutes long, so now you know - get “Alias” if you want a crime story, not for roses, unicorns or extensive canoodling.
I rate “Alias” 3.75, and recommend the book with a 4* goodreads rating.

Devoured in a day! Amnesia-driven mystery/thriller written in the first person POV. First impressions: loved the mystery, didn't love the romance (what romance???, lol), and not enough Det. Pryce (well, the blurb kinda led me on...so...)
The cover though....?!?!?!? might have worked on another author's book. But on Cari Hunter's trademark grimy, gritty, bloody thrillers? Totally inappropriate. And in sub-zero English (or in this case Welsh) weather that is such an integral part of the book? No way! (If I hadn't been squinting at the author names, I would have totally missed the book in the Netgalley line-up)

Cari Hunter gas a new book out, Alias. You don’t need to read further to know that this is a damn good book. It was written by Hunter, a damn good book is guaranteed each time she puts one out? I will expand because this is my review, DUH :), but one thing you can count on is that when you pick up a book by Hunter it is going to be awesome. She is an amazing author that weaves intricate tales and keeps you right on the edge of your seat.
Alias introduces us to a woman, Rebecca Elliott, who has been severely injured in an automobile accident. She has large gaps in her memory and has no clue who she is and how the accident happened. The passenger how was riding with her is deceased and the Welsh police are asking questions about what happened on that fateful night. The clues just aren’t adding up, something is definitely off. I won’t go into more details, I’ll just leave you with this Rebecca is not who she seems and there is a big ol’ can of worms about to get opened.
Detective Bronwen Pryce was the first one the scene. She has a gut instinct that this automobile accident is way more than what it seems. Nothing fits and something continues to niggle at her mind. Pryce refuses to let things go and write this off as an accident. She needs to know more about Rebecca Elliott and why she was headed out of town in such a hurry.
In Alias, I loved the mystery, crime, suspense of the book. I thought it was done fabulously. Perfect if you will. What nags me about this book is I thought the romance was misplaced, ill-timed and surprisingly unnecessary. If it wasn’t a romance it would have been better, it just didn’t help the book at all. It felt like an afterthought that was pasted into the book and didn’t really jive with the characters or the flow of the story. It would have been so much better if the characters had a moment in the end when everything was squared away and all the I's were dotted and the T's were crossed.
Overall a fabulous mystery that I highly recommend. 4 stars

‘Alias’ was my first Cari Hunter book and I’m really glad I finally got around to her work. It won’t be my last.
We open on a woman regaining consciousness after a car accident. With the car on its side, her dead passenger’s arm dangles in front of her. She has no idea who she or her passenger are or what’s happened to them. The suspense starts right away in ‘Alias’ and with the descriptors, I could easily see a movie reel playing in my head.
One thing I really enjoyed about this book is the POV. Because this is written in first person, everything is unraveled to the reader at the same time it’s revealed to the MC. I know people can get really twitchy about 1st person, but for a story that relies so heavily on amnesia, I think it’s perfect. The last two amnesia books I read were both written in third person, so it was a really enjoyable change of pace to have a seat right in the brain of the character who remembers little-to-nothing about who they are...or what in the world they’re doing hours away from home.
One thing that didn’t really work for me here was the ‘romance,’ but I wouldn’t categorize this as a romance anyway. It felt like the potential love was just kind of thrown in there to make romance fans happy. That’s fine, though; it doesn’t detract from anything or take up the storyline all that much, so I’m not consciously deducting any stars for that. Hell, there’s a sex scene thrown in for good measure, so I’ll take it. There’s much more suspense around the unraveling of why MC and her passenger were in that car heading to Wales, hours away from Manchester where they live. The author does a great job focusing on this storyline as the main subject of the book and wastes maybe 2% on a potential relationship that didn’t have any sparks.
What I am deducting a star for is the suspension of disbelief that must be held to believe that the person who helps the MC would do so with such heavy consequences for no apparent reason. I just couldn’t figure out the angle there and didn’t believe it. Also, I wasn’t a fan of the fact that there were characters created just to throw the readers off the bad guy’s scent, but we’re never actually given any closure on them. For all I know, they could have been good guys or bad guys. I just don’t know. Just because they weren’t found guilty right away, doesn’t mean they weren’t...nor does it mean they were. I like neatly wrapped bows without any loose ends and some things were left dangling here.
Anyway, I would definitely recommend this to fans of suspense/crime. Despite my minor quibbles, this is really well written and very entertaining. I couldn’t wait to find out how it would end, so when I didn’t have life happening, I was glued to this book.

Cari Hunter delivers once again with a crime thriller told from the perspective of an accident victim trying desperately to remember who she is and why she is lying beside a dead woman she doesn't recognize. From the opening chilling scene on a storm-drenched stretch of road in Wales the reader knows this is more than some simple love tryst gone awry.
DS Bronwen Pryce is all cop when she first encounters the injured and confused Rebecca.. She is drawn so well, so cool and professional that when circumstances change and she becomes an ally to Rebecca I wasn’t sure this softer, gentler Bronwen was trustworthy. When I reread the opening scenes I was able to pick up on the compassion and concern expressed by Pryce which I seemed to gloss over on the first read worried as I was with Rebecca’s welfare.
This is a difficult book to review without giving away spoilers. I will say Alias lives up to the high standard fans of Ms Hunter’s work have come to expect when she puts pen to paper. Settings are vivid and the characters who fill the scenes easy to imagine. Using a narrator with memory loss aids in ramping up the tension. The reader is as lost as the MC’s and can only speculate on who to trust and how much danger they face. I love how she includes snippets of memories which add clarity but more often confusion for our injured heroine.
Like other readers I continue to mourn the fictional passing of the Dark Peak series Megan and Sanne. It was hard not to look for similar bonds but this is a standalone crime thriller and these women are too busy unravelling the levels of deceit and corruption to spend a lot of time snogging. (Did I get that right?) It took nothing away from another engrossing read.

I would like to thank the amazing Alias' reviewers on Goodreads for their great job in reviewing this book and helped me to decide to purchase this book, I bought Snowbound a stupid minute after.. Thanks to you geniuses too.
Let's get the topic regarding the lack of romance dealt with first. To my opinion, the romance wasn't at the backseat. It was in an U-haul of its own... but towards the last 15 percent of the story, the U-haul abandoned and these were some of the lines coming out of my mouth.
1. Oh sh##
2. Ha! I knew you were trouble.
3. O. M. G. that is so sweet [times a hundred]
4. O. M. G. they are the sweetest [times 5O]
The best Epilogue written by Ms.Hunter goes to...
Alias. Ms.Hunter perfected the concept of a little goes a long way, it's not the quantity- it's the quality.
As for the plot that conquered the other 85%
1. It's a Cari Hunter, need I say more?
2. Check out the reviews ♥️
3. The h's still required visits to the Hospital but compared to what the other hs from the other books went through, it was like an ant bite.
One of my favorite moments -
I'm about to return to my chair when she catches my wrist and raises my hand, kissing the palm gently and then placing it against her bruised cheek.

how to inhale. "Please?"
I can't remember her asking me for anything, certainly not like this, but someone could come in and see us, and they wouldn't even need to read between the lines, because it's all there in her eyes. Then I think, fuck it and fuck them.

Rebecca wakes up to find herself in a smashed up car with a dead woman. She’s not sure how it happened, where she is or who she is. Detective Bronwen Pryce is first on the scene and once she’s been taken to hospital, Rebecca has a sense she can trust her even though she has an uneasiness about everything else.
This is a riveting mystery and suspense novel set in Wales and Manchester. Rebecca’s journey of recovery, with her fragmented and intermittent memory, is hampered by the overriding feeling that she’s in danger. Romance took a backseat for most of the novel and I was okay with that because the rest of the story was engaging and powerful enough without it. In fact, for me, there was a much greater sense of realism in portraying someone who has just been in a crash, resulting in broken bones and stitches, as more interested in recovering their memories and staying alive than falling in love.

I've loved Cari Hunter's vivid and gritty stories right from her first book Snowbound and somehow she's just got better and better. Her writing style has always made her stand out as one of the best writers in the genre but this, like her Dark Peak Series, also has superior plotting. This is my favourite though - her handling of the first person narrative gives the main character bold flavour and is perfect for the unfolding intrigue and mystery. Don't miss it!

wow. I couldn't put this down. I loved the way it's written through the eyes of Alis-who has amnesia.
The first person narrative is quick moving and draws you in right from the beginning...and doesn't let you go. Alis and Pryce are no Sanne and Meg (Dark Peak series)....but I felt the romance there. There was just so much else going on it definitely took a back seat...even to them. But, truly, I didn't mind.
This is a great read.
Cari Hunter fans won't be disappointed. Honestly, my only complaint....is the cover!! UGH

Amazing audiobook. Wonderful narrator, great thriller and romance. Very entertaining and gripping. I enjoyed it very much. Cari Hunter is becoming my go to lesbian crime/thriller author besides Gerri Hill and Robyn Nyx.

Cari Hunter writes exceedingly good books and this is the best yet.
It starts with a literal “bang” when a car goes off the road in the Welsh hills leaving one woman dead and the other severely injured and suffering amnesia. Who she is and why she is there elude her, and us. Working with Detective Bronwen Pryce from the local police the survivor must piece together her life, and then survive the what she finds.
The plot is fast and sometimes furious, but as usual with Ms Hunter's writing has moments of calm which allow us to catch our breath. The crime is multi-layered, the baddies found in unexpected places, and the allies equally unforeseen.
The scenes shift between metropolitan Manchester and rural Wales providing a distinct and well-drawn background. As always in Cari Hunter’s books the setting provides an important part of the plot. Here she uses the Welsh hills to represent increasing security, despite the crash, against the unexplained malice of the Manchester streets.
Our two main characters are well rounded, interesting and well matched. The romance takes second place to the mystery, and the attraction starts almost imperceptibly, building quietly between two complex women who have bigger issues to deal with. Both soften as the story unfolds, one from the consummate professional who conceals her compassion and the other finding who she really is and learning how to be herself again.
“Alias” is written in the first person, not everybody’s favourite, but this is extremely well done and even for those not keen on the mechanism I would urge you to give it a go. The writing is smooth and flows along, the plot is well constructed, the characters revealed slowly as the mystery unfolds, and being written in the first person adds to the mystery as we, the readers, discover the world along with our crash victim.
I have enjoyed all Cari Hunter’s books from the North Cascades to the English Peaks. This is another step up in her writing and it’s wonderful to watch an author grow into her craft. Her depiction of backdrop, the slow reveal, the handling of complex plot and character, and the always hard to manage first person, makes this an exceedingly good read. Highly recommended.

Oh wow, what a wild ride this was. I knew of Cari Hunter but never read any of her work. I’m finding out after the fact that she has quite an award-winning pedigree (I’m not surprised) and will make sure to read her back catalogue.
I basically inhaled the book in two days, sucked into it from the opening sentence ”I know she’s dead.”, I just could not put it down. I loved the pace, the mystery, the fact that we are in Alis’ amnesia addled brain and as much in the dark on matters as she is. Not knowing who to trust (not even herself) makes it all so much more nerve wracking and foreboding.
The writing style was well-paced, with a nice tight plot, realistic, graphic and captivating. The romance, unfortunately, was on the thin side so you certainly don’t want to buy the book looking for lots of that. The one sex scene included was very good though. I loved the setting. The city of Manchester became as much of a character as Alis and Pryce.
The bland cover art (the girl on the cover is Alis I gather?), however, did not honor the book at all. It’s simply the wrong choice for this gritty mystery and the publisher could have done a better job there.

4 Stars for the audiobook plus I have to add a star for Nicola Victoria Vincent’s narration for 5 stars total. Wow. She did an amazing performance on the different accents. Though I can’t comment on the accuracy- as I wouldn’t know the difference. There were a few phrases I didn’t understand. However, I probably wouldn’t understand them even if I were reading it myself. Slangs and idioms if I remember. Unfortunately I listen in my car, so I can’t stop and look it up. But it wasn’t a big deal. Just a huh? moment.
Cari Hunter - can write a thriller and is only getting better. This is told in the first person - a woman wakes up in a car after an accident with a dead woman beside her and she can’t remember anything - her name, who the woman is, where they were going, nothing. We go along with her as she slowly heals and begins to remember, she learns more about herself and investigates what she was doing - however putting herself in more danger. Being in her head, so to speak, we are on the ride with her. I also liked the character, Detective Pryce. I won’t say anymore. The less you know going in, the better the experience.

I was absolutely unprepared for how much I would enjoy this book. It was dangerous and suspenseful, smart and cheeky, and it kept me up until past 1am one evening just needing to find out what happened next.
We start amidst chaos, a car crash in Wales leaving one occupant of the car deceased and the other absolutely in the dark, both literally and figuratively. There are twists and turns, a bunch of Britishisms and Welsh things that I'm sure I know from being in the UK and a bunch that are able to be sussed out by context clues.
Without spoiling, because even bits of information can spoil it: there is corruption, suspense, action, murder, and so much mystery. This is a mystery/suspense novel with a side dish of lesbians. (Which is not to say that the romance isn't great, but to show that you can have both romance and a killer story all in one.)
Highly recommended.

I have conflicting feelings towards Cari Hunter's books: sometimes her stories are a bit gruesome for my taste. The problem is she's a great writer, probably one of the best mystery authors, and her books are engaging, well written and exciting to read. So I always end up reading them. In the case of 'Alias' the gruesome scenes were almost absent so I'm really happy to have read it.
A woman wakes up in a car accident next to a dead body. She doesn't remember her name or how she got there. As she is recovering in hospital from her injuries, she discovers some facts about her identity which leaves her with more questions than answers. She realises that her life is in danger because she knows something that might implicate someone... but has no idea what or whom. The only person she trusts is Browen Pryce, the smart and beautiful detective who rescued her from the car wreck. Will they be able to solve the mystery before it's too late?
'Alias' is written in first person from the point of view of the amnesiac woman (I won't mention her name to avoid spoilers) which gives us perfect access to her headspace. Amnesia is quite a common occurrence in book plots sometimes to the verge of credibility. This is not the case as the events seem very realistic. Along with the characters, the readers slowly bring the pieces of the puzzle together. We suffer and get frustrated with the slow progress in reconstructing the events, the plot teasing us with incomplete memory flashbacks. Even though we know all that the character learns about herself, and without playing tricks on us, Ms. Hunter manages to deliver a twist at the end. This is mostly a mystery/thriller story, definitely not a romance but as usual in Ms. Hunter's books there is an intense emotional connection between the main characters. Even though the romance doesn't take too much space in the plot, it has a strong presence and the chemistry between the mains works very well.
This novel has a definite British feel and Ms. Hunter is unapologetic about her references to British popular culture, food and language. So much so that despite that I've been living in the UK for sixteen years, I was clueless about some of the regional words from the north of England and Wales. I'm glad that her latest books are less edited for the American market. It provides an authentic feel and aren't a burden to understand. For the most obscure words, there's always Google.
Overall, another excellent book by Ms. Hunter. A real treat for lesfic mystery fans. 5 stars.

I am a big fan of Cari Hunter books, especially when they’re narrated by Nicola Victoria Vincent. Total immersion in the setting, in this case, Manchester and Wales. The main character, Rebecca, is found at a car accident along with a dead woman. She remembers nothing. The narrative unfolds in bits and pieces, the reader discovering the clues in real time because the story is told from 1st person pov of the amnesia victim so when she finds out, we find out. As much as I loved the narration and the characters, Rebecca and the local detective, Pryce, I felt like the story missed being in the great level. I can’t even say why except it was frustrating not having more information in a timely manner. Of course, you expect bread crumbs but you need an occasional payoff, too, even before the big ending.
While listening, I kept thinking it might have helped if the book had switched off to Pryce’s pov to add more clarity and a different perspective. I still think the audiobook is a gem to listen to, especially with those local accents and expressions. Also, a Cari Hunter book is always a worthy read or listen.

My first Hunter book and thank goodness I liked it because I have a couple others already waiting to be read. Two things that stood out for me, first the amnesia part and how frustrating it felt just to be reading it and second the actual crime/mystery story. They are both well done (not that I have experienced amnesia) and intrigued me/gave me food for thought. Will definitely recommend and read more from this author.

Cari Hunter has recently become a favourite of mine after I came across her Dark Peak series. She writes amazing crime fiction novels. So it was a no brainer for me to read this book.
I love the fact that all her books are set in the countryside. There is something very charming about a countryside setting and it also there is the fact that it is a perfect setting for a crime novel. If my username didn't clue you in, I love procedural crime fiction. To be really honest this was the first book I have read with the first person narrative of a character suffering from amnesia.
Synopsis: The story starts of in the aftermath of an accident. The lone survivor of the accident has Amnesia and cannot remember anything. The police discard it as a possible accident but then DS incharge of the accident, Bronwyn Pryce thinks there is more to it.
The two main characters in the story were the amnesia victim, Alis Clarke and the DS Bronwyn Pryce. I cannot reveal much about the characters without revealing the story so I will not go into that. I can say that my knowlegde of amnesia is pretty textbook, and this was very new for me; the peering into an amnesiac's brain part.
I'll just say these two are smart women and I loved reading about every single interaction of theirs.
Cari Hunter knows how to cook up a story. There was some very subtle hints throughout the book, and one of them was such a give away at least to me (Hint: Fruits). I was really pleased with myself for having picked that up. I also love the fact that the author did not dilute the action with romance. While I am a hard core fan of romance I don't wanted it to be unrealistically shoved down my throat. There were hints that the characters were going to get together but it did not happen till the second half of the book.
This maybe just me but in the beginning I felt like the story just dragged along so slowly. I think this is the reason I've put off the third installment of the Dark peak series. At around the 25% mark I almost gave up on this book (Now I'm glad I didn't). What I mean to say yes if you are reading this book and if you find it slow please don't stop because it gets infinitely better. This is Cari Hunter at her best. Great plot lines, amazing dialogue and beautiful settings make this a really fun read. And add to it, good characterisation and you've got a treasure in your hand. This is a book I will surely revisit in the near future.

I know I’m in the minority but this was just okay for me. I don’t know if it was the lack of knowledge of English cuisine and culture or what I felt was a disjointed climax, but I never did buy in to this one beyond the very promising beginning when she was only known as Rebecca. I felt like they went from earning trust to falling into bed way too fast yet most of the story took too long to unfold. Oh well. On to the next...

Finally! I finished this book. Not that the book was bad. Actually the book was pretty good. It just I had been sooo distracted to the point i had no longer in the mood reading this book any more. And I even forgot some minor characters. I even had to go back to check who was who. 😅 my bad.
This book talked in first POV of the one who had amnesia. Since synopsis didnt reveal her name, I has no intention saying it either. This one quite different from the books I read so far with amnesia. Mostly there would be alternated between the mains’ POV. But this book will be focus only on one character who had amnesia which is kind of refreshing. And i got to know what was going on in her head and how things progress as well. (I probably didnt read much of amnesia storyline books yet, since this style is kind of new to me). The crime and mystery was intense and great because it easier pull me back in the book eventhough my mood kind of ruined by the distraction. I wish there would be more interaction with Pryce though. I felt like she hardly showing up (that probably just me).

It's so different to my usual read - a thriller with romance as a back drop, almost posted in as an after thought. But how do you rate these books? Did I enjoy it? Tick. Did it keep me entertained? Tick. Would I re-read it? Tick. Do I think about the characters when the book is finished? Tick. How can it not be five stars? Complex, rich and tasty - a real humdinger. Thank you.

So, after reading 7 books from this author, finally I found my least favourite, though it got interesting storyline.

Interesting enough for me but I kinda feel like this time the story flow are a bit too rushing and the thing that bother me the most is, the chemistry between our two MC are off. Maybe I am used to police-medic couple from previous books, so police-police pairing suddenly a bit awkward to me. I even think that DS Pryce and Dr Lewis got a lot more chemistry than the main pairing. Doesn't matter, not a romance lol.

They are books I have to read twice in a row and this is one of those books.
First time around, I was so taken by the ambiance, I miss a lot of details. I didn't even noticed the story was written with the present tense.
It's perfect for it.
So much tension and stress, it was like watching a horror movie. You feel the angst, terror and deep exhaustion of the main character.
She suffers from amnesia (among other things) after a car crash. As the driver, she feels a profund guilt about it but she keeps fighting for knowledge and understanding. She keeps trying to find answers. Why ? How ? Who ?
It drives the whole story, her taking each painful and slow step to find her own identity.
5% percent into the book, there is a part about finding the memory of someone she cares for.
This passage, I'm very generic because I don't want to spoil anyone, was so beautiful and sad, I'm teary just thinking about it and by itself deserves the 5-stars.
But really, the whole book is amazing, and not being from Manchester, nor a native English speaker, I just loved those local? words the writer uses (I have to guess the meaning ^^)
Maybe it's just plain English though !

Just finished the audiobook version. After some fumbling moments til my ears got used to the narrator's rhythm and accent, I was swept into the story once again and enjoyed every single seconds of it.
I loved how she spoke the F-word. Filled with intent and half-whispering.
Now I feel as if my best friend just left and it was WAY TOO SOON!

She suffers from amnesia (among other things) after a car crash. As the driver, she feels a profund guilt about it but she keeps fighting for knowledge and understanding. She keeps trying to find answers. Why ? How ? Who ?
It drives the whole story, her taking each painful and slow step to find her own identity.
5% percent into the book, there is a part about finding the memory of someone she cares for.
This passage, I'm very generic because I don't want to spoil anyone, was so beautiful and sad, I'm teary just thinking about it and by itself deserves the 5-stars.
But really, the whole book is amazing, and not being from Manchester, nor a native English speaker, I just loved those local? words the writer uses (I have to guess the meaning ^^)
Maybe it's just plain English though !

Just finished the audiobook version. After some fumbling moments til my ears got used to the narrator's rhythm and accent, I was swept into the story once again and enjoyed every single seconds of it.
I loved how she spoke the F-word. Filled with intent and half-whispering.
Now I feel as if my best friend just left and it was WAY TOO SOON!

Wow, I'm still slightly baffled by this book but in a really good way. Let me put it this way; I got a free review copy but I've gone and bought it as well, that's how good it is and how many times I anticipate rereading this novel. There was just something about it that got under my skin and I was caught between wanting to go over sections again to make sure I hadn't missed any tiny but potentially crucial details and staying up all night to finish it! Whatever your reading style, it's excellent and well worth your time and money; well crafted characters with depth, very atmospheric setting (as always with Cari Hunter) and a plot to keep your mind and heart racing.

For fans of mystery/thrillers starring strong women, with a little lesbian romance thrown in, this one's a winner. Cari Hunter has strong plotting and writing skills, and she seamlessly pulls off an intriguing amnesia theme.

This is a very well written mystery/thriller that I'll be coming back to. It's bumped Cari Hunter onto my favorite authors list, and maybe started me on my first mystery book binge in 25-years.

An intriguing British cop mystery, with so much to discover.
The MC wakes from a car crash with amnesia, as things progress her memory lapses hint at a conspiracy happening all around her that she may or may not be involved in. Who can you trust if you can't recall even if you yourself are trustworthy? And you suspect neither are the police?
I love a good cop procedural and this checked all those boxes, with an added lesbian romance neatly nestled in there. It's definitely not fully a romance, it's definitely an investigative story first and foremost but I really enjoyed it.
