Chihaya is forced to swallow her tears at her first national tournament appearance when, of all things, she is forced to withdraw from the team competition. Though disappointed and frustrated, she enters the individual competition thanks to her friends' encouragement. The battle between the best players in the world begins, and then she appears. Shinobu Wakamiya, the youngest Queen in the game's history, and the only karuta player who can claim to stand unrivaled.

I continue to enjoy the journey that is Chihayafuru. I continue to grow fond of each character, and continue to admire their determination to their various goals. I am so excited to see how this story develops and continues.
Mizusawa high school karuta club didn’t become No.1. But they did their best performance. After that, they played individual match. Chihaya’s opponent was Shinobu Wakamiya who is a queen of karuta. Chihaya is A-rank but she couldn’t win. She started practicing more harder.

There were some moments I wish we actually got to see like Desk winning his first match or Mashima getting to the finals of his tourney but they just skip out on it and make those off screen. This whole volume sets up the queen who is your standard perfectionist but hey at least there’s a new bar set (until Arata gets the itch to play again)

A solid volume! It was fun to see Chihaya go against the Queen. It made her dreams feel more tangible and upped the stakes. I also can’t wait for Arata to join competitively again!
