100 books15 followersIzumi Matsumoto (まつもと 泉), the pen name of Kazuya Terashima (寺嶋 一弥), is a Japanese manga artist best known for Kimagure Orange Road.
His career started in 1982, publishing his comic Milk Report in the manga magazine Fresh Jump. But real success came in 1984, publishing in the same magazine his masterpiece Kimagure Orange Road. Other works include Sesame Street, and Black Moon.
He has recently revealed that he's afflicted with a cerebrospinal fluid disease (stemming from a car accident when he was 3 years old) that has forced him to take 6 years off work, and he now hopes to bring attention to this disorder through his manga. (from Wikipedia)

I'm reading this and volume 4 entirely so I can say "I read them" before I put them in the used bookstore box. So take this review for what it is: to show that I've respected them (or the money I paid for them) enough to put in the effort necessary to record them on my Goodreads bookshelves.
As time goes on, I'm less and less of a fan of manga comedy, and this series uses so many of the following that it's all too easy to lose patience with it:
- Madoka, supposedly a tough girl, is constantly fainting. This means that Kyosuke is constantly tempted to feel her up. I mean, Kyosuke passes out once or twice, too, so I guess anemia or light-headedness must have been a huge problem in (fictional) Japan in the '80s.
- Alcohol or post-hypnotic suggestion (ugh, hate) being used to create situations the characters would never be caught dead in without it/them.
- Oops, Kyosuke stumbles and feels Madoka up, or sees her while she's changing, or he ends up in a girls' locker room, etc., etc.
- Psychic powers and/or circumstance meaning Kyosuke always comes out smelling like a rose, even though he never does the right thing. I shudder to think what kind of adult he's going to become with this as a precedent.
Got to say that the girls are incredibly cute--its fans through the years aren't wrong about that--and it does well with creating an idyllic high school world... for its intended audience, at least.
