Harper Harlow #8

Ghostly Tricks

Rate this book
It’s the most magical time of the year … for Harper and Zander, that is. Not Christmas, mind you, but Halloween.

That’s right, Whisper Cove’s favorite ghost-hunting duo are decking out their house for their favorite holiday – and they’re only mildly fighting while doing it. All that comes to a screeching halt when Harper notices her neighbor acting odd and realizes he’s dead … leaving nothing but a cranky ghost and a lot of questions behind.

Henry Spencer wasn’t well liked (to say the least) and Harper is convinced he was murdered while her boyfriend Jared, who happens to be the police officer investigating the incident, is leaning toward natural causes. Unfortunately for Harper, Henry seems confused and can’t answer the obvious questions when it comes to his death.

In quick succession, Harper realizes not only is she right but Henry might be underselling the danger. She’s in trouble … again … and Jared has no idea how to get her out of it.

Between cantankerous ghosts, endless suspects and a teenage granddaughter who seems like a viable suspect despite her age, Harper has her hands full. She needs to solve the case, save the day and put Henry to rest … and she needs to do it before the Halloween season kicks into overdrive.

It’s all out mayhem for Harper and Zander, and the only thing they’re truly focused on is getting out alive.

OMg Harper and Zander are just freakin awesome, seriously when you need a good laugh and a huge dose of immaturity just read this series it really is a fun read, with a good dose of supernatural and a great mystery to solve.

Halloween must seem like an everyday occurance in the lives of Harper and Zander and you would think Halloween would just be like any other day but no, no, no it's their favourite time of year the decorating is way over the top, the pumpkin spice is everywhere, in everything and they just love it all.

so what was my favourite part well actually the ending because it happened just as I wished for and it was perfect.
I loved the mystery, the twists and turns kept me guessing, i loved the senior center visits they were funny and I just love the way my favourite foursome are growing Harper, Jared, Zander and Shawn are really wonderful together and I can't wait for more.

In this book, Harper and Zander are getting ready for Halloween and going all out. However, their neighbor dies, and Harper believes it is murder, but no one else seems to believe her. Not only, that but the same exact issue that has been happening in previous books is happening again in this one even though it seemed to be already resolved before.

That really made me dislike this book. I couldn't stand Zander in this one, and I felt like he ruined the story. And to be honest, the rest of the story was slightly boring, and felt somewhat repeated from other books before this one. So, I didn't like this one. I will still read more in this series, but I hope the next one is better than this one.

Sweet and short

Once again, lovely romantic humorous story. Did not see the twist regarding Henry towards the end but overall, it was a good story. Kind of followed the format of all other books in the series (with the exception of book 7. Book 7 was my favorite) which made it predictable. Onto the next book because I really do enjoy the Harper-Zander friendship.

A nice fall mystery anyone?

Another great Harper Harlow mystery. A little snark, a little drama, a few invisible bugs and a dash of pumpkin spice flavor and you got another Harper mystery!

So much fun!

Harper sees ghosts. She stopped caring about what others thought and opened a ghost hunter business with her bestie, Zander. Enter Jared, the new detective in town who doesn't believe in anything he can't see. Of course, sparks fly when they meet over a dead body.

I absolutely love the characters in this book. Harper is awesome - strong in that she doesn't let anyone else tell her what to do or how to live her life, but vulnerable in that her only true friend is Zander, who she both lives and works with. Zander is absolutely ridicilous (and seriously loveable), but 100% pro-Harper, no matter what. They are joined at the hip, and anyone entering into a relationship with either has to accept that. Jared figures that out, and actually does pretty well at accepting Zander's position in Harlow's life. Every one of the side characters are also great, well developed and multi-dimensional.

Episode 8: It's October - almost Halloween! What better time for ghost hunters! Until their neighbor turns up as a ghost. Jared is at his wit's end with Zander. Something has to give in this crazy 4 person living arrangement.

Predictable

I was so hoping this story would open up with a follow up on the previous book. I really wanted to know more about the haunting at the Asylum.

They referenced it, even made a mention that Harper had trouble coping with it- but nada, zilch, zip.

Instead we are thrown into more bickering between Zander and Jared.

Right away I knew what was going to happen. It was pretty much the same thing that happened with Aisling Grimlock. House next door recently vacated. Check. Heroine mentioned many times she wants to be closer to the river- vacant house happens to be closer to river. Check. The boyfriends cook up a plan to buy the house so heroine and best friend stay near each other... Check.

Please make the story SOMEWHAT different. I really do not understand why the same story lines must be used over and over again. To sell more books? I guess. The only thing missing in this series are the nonstop "Golden Girls" references.

Entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. If I can cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Harper Harlow is a young woman who has the ability to see and speak to ghosts. Along with her best friend since kindergarten Xander they run a ghost hunting business in their small town and immediate area. They go out and help ghost cross over and clear peoples homes and businesses of ghosts. Harper‘s boyfriend Jared is a detective in the local police force. Xander‘s uncle also is a detective and Jared‘s partner. Harper Xander Jared and Sean who is Xander’s boyfriend all live together in their house currently. Once again Harper happens to see a ghost and tries to find out what happened to help him pass over. Is she going to find yourself in trouble or is it going to be a Mundanes natural causes. Read on and find out and follow the adventure in the mystery.

As Harry nextdoor pops his clogs..

.. Harper and Zander have a mystery case right on their doorstep. Cantankerous and having spent his life issuing tickets for the most petty housing violations imaginable Harry has plenty of enemies.

Initially it's proving difficult to get Mel and Jared to look into the death; Harry was in his 80's after all but Harry's adamant that he was murdered by assassin's and is determined to find out who.

Could it be the granddaughter he's promised a big inheritance too? Or one of the thousands of people in Whisper Cove he's ticketed? Maybe it's something deeper and darker.. with plenty of leads and Harper and Zander carrying out their own investigation Jared's going to have swoop in to the rescue again as the daring duo always seem to find trouble..

I really enjoy this series. Funny, sad, romantic, thrilling. All done with nuance and not overdone. I've quit other series because they were turning into soft porn or logy romance novels. If I want those things, I'll try a different genre.
That's why I like this author. She keeps it fairly light but interesting. She walks the fine line with skill and agility between romance and just throwing it out there for the sake of sales. I enjoy a good hard mystery too but sometimes you just want enjoyment with out the blood and guts.
Ms. Hart is a fine writer and I will continue to enjoy her work for many more I hope.

Halloween Antics Galore!

Take one dead body, mix in plenty of snark, a couple of ghosts, plus lots of looooove & you get another entertaining Lily Harper Hart novel. I truly enjoy the dynamics between Harper, Jared, Zander, & now Shawn. I can’t help but laugh at the things that come out of Zander’s mouth. His Halloween costume suggestions had me in stitches! I am especially pleased with the ending & can’t wait to see on this enfolds in the future.

Could it be that Harper and Zander are finally ready to grow up a little and commit to someone other than each other? I'm so excited for them, hopefully Zander won't have a meltdown....well maybe just a smallish one...😉😂 Good story with a surprise suspect I didn't see coming, I would have bet it was someone else! Can't wait to see what Harper gets into next and see how the next step in both relationships go.

Brilliant

This is the first series of books I've read by this author unfortunately the characters and their relationships are similar to a set of books by the author Amanda M Lee the Aisling Grimlock series of books who happens to be a grimreaper and sees ghosts helps them cross over solves murders and set in the same part of America
I am enjoying this set of books though and will try some more from this author once I've finished reading these...

Absolutely love this series! The read is light and funny. The writing flows well and keeps you entertained. Of course the Ghost showing up for help from Harper gives it a punch. Zander , Harper, Jared, Shawn and Mel are on the case. Harper also has help from the local Ghost Jack the Pirate. My favorite Ghost has to be Jack the Pirate. Can’t wait to find out more about Jack. I can also see Mel having a story. Well I guess I can say I hope he does. Uncle Mel is cool.

Ghostly tricks

Another great installment in this series. I love that everyone is moving forward and growing. Zander and Harper's halloween addiction is very appropriate for this series. I would love to have known Jareds reaction to the Golden Girls suggestion for a fearsome foursome. Harper finds herself in trouble again and of course it wasn't her fault.

Great addition to this series!

I was absolutely intrigued by this story line! Didn't
see this ending coming. Zander is such a great character
as are all the characters, but I enjoy him the most. This
is a fantastic ghostly series and I'm anxiously waiting for
book #9 to come out! Can't wait to see where we're going
from here.

Good book. The obvious suspects are never the killers, and that's what's so much fun about this series. On top of that, Harper and Jared are getting their own place, and it's so close to Zander that everyone will be happy. It ended there, so I can't wait to read how Zander & Harper will adjust to their new reality.

Always sad it’s over

I love everything about this series. I’m always a bit sad when I finished and can’t wait to read the next one. Harper and Zander are in top form along with their boyfriends. The mystery was sound and it’s a great addition.
