I love the cover art for this series. It’s fresh, humorous and “sticks” with the story.

Reckoning picks up right where Shunned, Book Two, left us.

Question : How do I review the third book in this series?

Answer : By telling you as little as possible.

That doesn’t mean I won’t tell you something.

We know Jael is the Chosen One, chosen to slay vampires. She wasn’t always Amish, but circumstances landed her at her grandparents home in an Amish community in Minnesota.

She knew she’d be going there sooner or later. Her target, The Bishop, was there and it was her destiny to destroy him.

Her best friend Bree, along with Shad, are in Minnesota for the summer and don’t plan on letting Jael face this all alone.

But she’s not alone. She has a sweet, loyal, and surprisingly determined new boyfriend, Gabe. He learns quick. He has to.

With Father Thomas, her Uncle Seth, and her three loyal companions, Jael sets out to do what must be done.

They are going to need a lot of luck if they are to survive. The vampires are more brazen than ever and even more determined to kill them.

Jael’s role as The Chosen One has forced her to do things most young women wouldn’t dream of. She’s grown a thick skin to fend off the pain of some tough decisions.

“Cure her?” Jael blew out a laugh. “The cure for bloodsuckers is death.”

“We must save her! She has a baby for heaven’s sake!”

Jael shook her head, releasing an exasperated sigh. “Here we go again. Another bleeding heart wanting to save something. The problem is, there’s just as many vampires running loose in Minnesota as there are wolves – but vamps are far more deadly and not even close to extinct…yet.”

This doesn’t mean she doesn’t care. She does. It just means she has to protect her heart lest it be crushed from the weight of her deeds.

Jael has a date with destiny.

A reckoning is looming.

There is only one outcome.

The Bishop dies or Jael does.

This is a great wrap up to this series! I’m sad it’s over. Who knows, Jael is young, maybe we’ll hear from her again! (Wink)

Thoroughly was Hooked!!!

I read this trilogy, each book consecutively, I was so hooked!
I enjoyed it so much, that I looked forward to my nighttime ritual of reading, that I started because of this Trilogy!

I haven't read such a fantastically written vampire fiction like this, since the Anne Rice "Vampire Chronicles!"

I also liked the back story of the main character's Amish roots!
This was a truly awesome Trilogy!

At first glimpse the premise of a gathering of undead vampires living off of a quiet and unsuspecting community away from the constructs of modern life intrigued me. The books are all well written with an active plot line that never left me waiting for what happens next. The story unfolded very naturally and the characters were human and familiar. I was a little nervous about how the character element would be presented before I began reading the books. I was curious how the author would make two very foreign groups, the Amish and the Vampires relate-able and approachable to readers like myself who have always been surrounded by a technological and fully alive selection of people to interact with. Brink pulled off the character element with style and grace. The protagonist, Jael was as vulnerable as any teenager would be, yet she found her inner strength and was able to preserver against forces and situations that placed her in a difficult situation at a very young age. Her peers were diverse and endearing. Her interactions with Amish world(out of her comfort zone) were refreshing. The Amish themselves, who are stigmatized in today’s world were painted with a brush of humanity that made them recognizable and believable despite their cultural differences from the world the main character was accustomed to.

All of that aside, these books were action packed reads that filled the promise for edge of your seat slaying action while remaining true to a moral and a clean portrayal of the life of a young woman. I also enjoyed the biblical elements that were skillfully woven in as an integral parts of the story line. They are a great choice for a fun summer (or any season) read!

I’ve gotten attached to the people and setting of this series, so finishing this last book in the trilogy about Jael, the teenage Amish vampire slayer, was almost as sad as it was satisfying. Ever since her parents’ murders, ordered by the vampire known as the Bishop, Jael has been living with her Amish grandparents in Minnesota, learning their plain and simple ways while awaiting the chance to root out the vampires hidden in their midst and avenge her parents’ deaths. Gabe, Jael’s artistically gifted boyfriend, has started to develop some martial arts abilities of his own, which is a good thing because the Bishop and his vampire underlings have some new tricks up their undead sleeves.

Though Jael’s slayer skills are already strong, she still has lessons to learn. Jael’s determination and overconfidence are putting her loved ones at risk, and when someone she knows begins to transform into a vampire in spite of struggling to resist the change, Jael realizes there are some gray areas in the battle between good and evil.

It’s great to have Jael’s Nevada friends Bree and Shadow back in the story for the grand finale, along with Jael’s globe trotting Uncle Seth. Author Barbara Ellen Brink has balanced Jael’s very serious dedication to her mission with a dash of irreverent teenage humor, which makes it all the harder to have to leave her behind now that her story is over.

In the final book of the Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy, the Bishop is growing his vampire army by leaps and bounds, feeding on the naturally rebellious teenage population. Jael tries to keep one step ahead of the undead and their schemes and maintain a semi-normal life in Loon Lake, but living Amish while still being considered an outsider is beginning to wear on her.
With old friends in town for the summer and a boyfriend as loyal as Captain America, Jael is never short of help. The problem is, slaying vamps and having people around that you love can be a dangerous combination. Experience tells her to keep away from them, but sometimes destiny weaves certain people together and there’s no separation from love.
Jael has some hard decisions to make this summer and she’s afraid not everyone will be on board. Will she fulfill her destiny or fall into the Bishop’s trap?

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. We revisit Jael Shetler where book 2 has left off. Uncle Seth has been injured by Carolyn, who has become half vampire and half human. Can Father Thomas save her soul? Will Seth survive? Will the Bishop be destroyed?

This is book 3 of The Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy. This was an amazing book. I was once again drawn into the world of Amish Vampires from the very beginning. This story has nonstop action with many twists. We also see, as promised, the reappearance of Bree and Shadow. This book ties up all of the loose ends and it was great to see her as her love for her boyfriend Gabe grows. This was an excellent trilogy, one that I’m sad to see end.
