This is the story of Luci Comburet, a trailer park teen who’s being hunted by a cult of religious fanatics that want to kill her because they think she is half human, half angel…
~~
Luci, whose mother died when she was a baby and never knew her father, is suddenly alone. Her grandmother has passed and she has to live with an uncle she never knew she had. Last night, in her new bedroom, Luci started hearing a strange man's voice. An hour later, she found an ancient relic hidden inside an old dresser. It was a small black door carved with mysterious angels and a two-headed snake. After touching the snake, Luci awakens with the man's voice inside her head, and he's warning her to get away.
Fearful and confused, Luci barely escapes a deadly fire and finds herself on the run from a killer cult that won't stop hunting. The unwanted chase leads her into the world of those who could save her from the cult, but when they come across the door, Luci quickly discovers they have their own agenda.
Craig Wickersham grew up in Santa Cruz, California where he was encouraged by family and friends, including his teachers, to explore the world of creativity. On this path, he designed his first house at age thirteen -not a napkin sketch, but a full set of working drawings for a builder. The next year, his first custom home was under construction. This avenue of creativity led him to Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West where he advanced his architectural training, which included a full spectrum of design disciplines including landscape design, furniture design, engineering, sculpting, life drawing, painting, and later digital art and writing.
As a passion, he enjoys reading a broad range of authors including everything from fiction (many genres) to nonfiction, architecture, spiritual, history, religion, and science.
With the aid of professional editors, Craig has a dozen manuscripts completed and has self-published three novels in the paranormal fantasy genre, with another five novels completed and ready for publishing.
He lives in Tempe, Arizona with his wife Teresa who is a jewelry artist. They have one son, Miles, and a daughter in law, Julie.
I feel bad giving this book such a low rating due to the fact that I won it in a giveaway. Also because the author wrote an inscription and drew pictures which was very nice of him. However, I truly did not like this book. I really pushed myself to finish it even though it is not that long. The writing was horrid. Too many explanation points, caps, and the parts when Luci was talking out loud to herself were really not needed. It read as if a 12 year old wrote it. A lot of things didn't make sense either which made me feel like parts of this book were not well researched. Overall, I didn't enjoy this book at all. Sorry.
(I used some of my giveaways as an exercise with my YA book club at my library, where I work. We each blindly chose one of my giveaway titles, have read them, and are currently working on writing our reviews to submit in the very near future... This title was my selection. The signed copy with custom sketch was a pleasant bonus! Spoiler - I LOVED THIS SELECTION!)
I won this book from goodreads giveaways, intending to give it to my granddaughter, but when I received it, I just had to read it first. Glad I did. all the way through I was trying to figure out the secret of the door, but I certainly did not expect what it finally was. I know my granddaughter will love it as much as I did.
