The Little Mermaid's children are the key to a prophecy about ecological disaster...but are they saviors or destroyers? It seems they might be both! The tour heads out to Russia, and Benjamin and Seth go with the dancers. They hope to stop their sibling Teruto, who has possessed tour sponsor Gil Owen, from sabotaging a nuclear power plant. But Gil won't be stopped - he's willing to sacrifice anything to get his way. His only concession to reason is to try and get his beloved brother Seth out of the disaster zone...but his attempt to kidnap Seth and return him to New York may backfire!

I felt so many emotions while reading this volume. When the last chapter came up, I had all my hopes back. And while I did love the ending very much, I think a part of my soul was left within those pages. Amazing story tho. I feel like I want to say so much more but at the same time I am so amazed by this wonderful story that my head is a mess. The only thing I know is that I enjoyed the characters and story so much so much.

A very disappointing and confusing conclusion to what had been up until this point a fascinating series.

After sleeping with Shonarch Seth turns into a female.
Art stabs himself rather than jimmy and lies in a critical condition.
Rita kills Gil and then herself.
Shonarch tries and fails to prevent Chernobyl and dies in Seth's arms.

We then get this bizarre time shift where we're presented with two outcomes one positive and one negative. In the good universe - Chernobyl is prevented. Seth gives birth to Shonarch's son whom he names Teruto who flies off into the universe. Jimmy becomes human and stays with Art and becomes a beautiful girl who eventually gets engaged to Art. Art becomes a successful choreographer and even makes peace with his half brother - Alexi is fine and finally comes to American. Man begins a space program that might lead to the colonization of mars and a clean alternative to nuclear power is discovered.

But this is contrasted with Jimmy's dream of an alternate reality where Chernobyl did happen and all manner of horrors such as the Tiananmen square massacre happened - Alexi died (and we presume art etc) - Art wakes him up and we go back to the happy outcome.

This is completely unsatisfying for the reader because we know that Jimmy's dark vision DID happen - Chernobyl occurred as did all the other horrors in his vision -

So does the whole series happen in an alternative reality?

Very disappointed as I hoped this would do something clever with its many threads, but instead I'm left bemused and feel somehow cheated.

There's not much mermaid action either and although there's plenty of bonus art, its not as beautiful as earlier pieces.
