Immediately following their betrothal, Shale and Daniel find themselves in the midst of exploding bombs in Jerusalem. They rescue a young girl, orphaned by the warfare, and seek sanctuary in the most secret parts of the city. From there, they follow God's leading through the gates into the first century AD and begin to unravel the goal of their enemies and the location of Daniel's missing father.

The Prescience is the fifth book in the Seventh Dimension Series by Lorilyn Roberts. With the knowledge that this novel could be read as a standalone, I embarked on reading it without knowledge of the previous books in the series. That was not the best decision on my part, partly because I now know major spoilers when I finally go back and read the rest of the series. Additionally, there was so much foreknowledge for the author to try to summarize in order to make this book a standalone that it was probably impossible for her to include everything. So while I was reading it, I was struggling to understand what was going on. The characters traveled to different times, dimensions, and spiritual locations. It was fascinating, but I did not fully understand how all of the different places correlated or the characters' backgrounds in each of the places.

Despite my confusion, I found myself extremely interested in reading the rest of the series. I loved the characters and want to read more of them. I loved the Biblical symbolism and allegory that was present everywhere in the novel. The characters were tested through all of the spiritual warfare and experiences, and they grew.

My biggest critique of this novel is the plot. As much as I enjoyed the characters, setting, and spiritual aspect, I found the plot lacking. It seemed more like an episode than a rounded novel. The characters sought to follow God, find Daniel's father, and fight against their enemies. They did so, but it did not seem like a concentrated effort. It seemed more like they were wandering from one place to another, facing weird situations, and fighting the enemies they happen to come across. The novel did not seem very focused on completing a major goal, and the end was subsequently left hanging in the attempt to complete a minor goal. It was kind of frustrating. It believe that I would appreciate the story more if I had read the previous novels first, enjoying it for the pleasure of seeing the characters continue on their journey. But as a standalone, it was not developed enough to equal a well-rounded book.

Still, I enjoyed this novel very much. I recommend it as a YA Christian fiction, although I would suggest starting with the first book, The Door.

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

Seventh Dimension - The Prescience is a religious fantasy fiction by Lorilyn Roberts. Shale and Daniel are caught amidst a bombing in Jerusalem. Using one of her unique skills Shale is led to help a newly orphaned child from beside her dead parents. The dog that brought Shale to the child said they were the ones God had called to look after the child, but at 18 they were little more than children themselves, despite their experiences. Trapped in Jerusalem they decide it is safer to head back to the first century where they had met, at least there they had a chance of discovering what was going on, and what was expected from them. The Antichrist will soon rise to power, and for some reason, demons have an interest in the child they had rescued.

A believable setting is enhanced by snippets of realism, such as people's limitations. My favourite example being that a person who had studied a language couldn't fluently understand the native speakers, and this is just one such example of attention to real life details. Seventh Dimension - The Prescience is a very religion oriented book, yet there are some original and interesting interpretations on ideas often used in such literature. As a reader you are rewarded with subtle intricacies which add alternative perspectives and interesting ideas. Good versus evil in the most primal sense. Angels of good against angels of evil, each attempting to turn the tide in their favour. The chapters are short and concise, making it easy to pick up and put down, that is if you can tear yourself away from the adventure. I read Lorilyn Roberts' book in a single sitting, finding it engaging, action-packed, and fascinating. The main protagonists, Daniel and Shale, show growth individually and as a couple as they face the challenges before them with faith and unity trying to solve not only the mystery being the disappearance of Daniel's father, but the meaning behind everything happening, and how it is connected. A great read, and easy to lose yourself in.

Shale and Daniel continue on their quest between two dimensions, two timelines: the twenty-first century and the first century. In between, above and beyond, are the powers and worlds of both good and evil, the worlds protected and loved by Jesus our Savior, and the worlds threatened and facing extinction by the devils of the underworld. Escaping the unravelling world of twenty-first century, the still unmarried couple have been given a gift, a young child whose parents were killed in the strife that was plaguing Israel, and the entire world, for that matter. Young Shira, God’s gift to the couple, bonds the love the two share for each other and share with their Savior, as the two continue to grow in their faith and learn to trust and forgive those around them. The powerful lessons they learn mold their characters and strengthen their faith. As Shale admits, after a train ride full of smelly sheep and goats, she learns a valuable lesson. “To my surprise, every person did have a story. What had I missed in my journey through life because I had been in too big a hurry, too impatient, or too selfish to care about others? It wasn’t that I didn’t love Jesus. I just didn’t know how to love his sheep and goats.” The sheep and goats were really people. And each one had a story, just waiting to be shared. All Shale had to do was listen and to care.

“The Prescience” is Lorilyn Roberts’ fifth book in her Young Adult Fantasy, “The Seventh Dimension”. The title itself suggests a powerful story, one where things are known before they actually happen, as only our Savior can do. The plot takes us on a journey through time, from the present day where evil powers are threatening to destroy all of humanity and earth itself, to the past and a completely different world where people continued to struggle with their beliefs, if they even had any beliefs. The characters are both believable and realistic and the reader is instantly drawn into the storyline, wanting to learn along with both Shale and Daniel. And there is so much to learn in this story, so much to absorb. As Daniel aptly points out, “no one is righteous enough to see everything. We see through a glass darkly, but someday, we’ll see Yeshua in his glory. Eternity awaits.” And, “God is just. In the end, he will make everything perfect, and that’s what gives me hope.” Looking forward to Book Six.

This is so far my favorite of the series. Although you do want to know what went before, it’s not necessary in order to immerse yourself in this story’s possibly real near future—the big one, where no one survives. The series takes a contemporary young lady, Shale, on journeys back in time, mostly to the biblical time of Christ where she experiences life in the first century AD. She meets and falls in love with a young man whose family is involved in the time portals responsible for these adventures. Shale and Daniel are on an ever-increasingly amazing rush toward the biblical end times.

Daniel knows he’s one of the special chosen, the 144,000 Jews of the book of Revelation, who will make the final stand against evil. He’s in love and wants to marry Shale. Problem, besides needing to find his father who may or may not be part of the events, is that the chosen are men who have not been with a woman—unmarried, or virgins. He needs to respect his calling, as well as Shale. This leads to a new phase in their relationship as they travel back to biblical times and other traumatic eras to unravel family secrets.

Temptation, more chariot racing, supernatural powers, good guys, bad guys, scary guys, and time dancing all make this thrilling next-to-last edition of The Seventh Dimension series a great inspirational read.

Told through multiple viewpoints, The Seventh Dimension series is geared for Young Adult readers, but anyone will enjoy the books. The Prescience is part of a series.

WOW!

I spent most of the time I read this book on the edge of my chair in anticipation. Although I know with Biblical surety that what God has said will happen in the future, the characters and story in this wonderful series have truly kept me engaged and excited to find out what is next for them. With some series I feel that the author is in a rush to finish up, but I don't get that vibe from Lorilyn Roberts at all. Every book has been perfectly plotted and tightly written. I can hardly wait for the next one!
