The deceptive kidnapper prowls unnoticed, making every park and gathering their hunting grounds. In this sequel to Ghost in the Park, Bryce saves one child from abduction but sees another snatched before his eyes. He'd stop this child stealing spree, but he needs help. Enter Bridget. She might be a ghost, but she will do anything she can to help her missing brother.
Together, they will find the culprit, even if they have to recruit every ghost in town.
This book can be read as a standalone, but it contains spoilers for book one. Contains adult language and some violence.
A delightful sequel to “Ghost in the Park”, which I found even more enjoyable than the first book. Bryce Campbell is a British ex-pat and a respected and well-liked professor at the University of Louisiana. He is also clairaudient, which means that he hears the voices of dead people in his head. When Detective Chase, his best friend, is baffled by a case of young children being kidnapped, Bryce's ghostly friends join the investigation.
As in the previous book, the friendship between the young detective and the older professor is an entertaining driving theme, providing moments of comic relief and a curious sense of alternate family. I enjoy their spats and verbal sparring and the deep mutual trust they have developed. This series seems to be shaping up in the tradition of the reluctant amateur sleuth, who is involved in a different case each time and joins forces with the regular police and the “irregular” army of ghosts or recently dead people. The main ghost in this instalment is a more wistful one and has a more limited role than previously. The crime is less gruesome but no less harrowing as it involves a number of kidnapped children.
The writing is confident and captivating. The story is narrated by Bryce in the first person, and I have mentioned before that the author does a terrific job of capturing the voice of an Englishman transplanted in the US but still attached to his tea drinking and pub culture. I love the strong characterization, which to me adds so much to an interesting and very original plot.
This is the second book I've read by this author and I really do love the imaginative story line of these stories. Reading this story so soon after reading its predecessor made it easy to see the story line flow through, but in saying that, this could easily be a standalone story. The grounding of ghosts and a few of the living, using their abilities to communicate with one another to solve crimes, makes for an easy to read and easy to like story. I look forward to reading a third book if one is released in the future.
I got this for something different to read and fell in love with characters and story line. The author does an outstanding job describing everything making it possible to visualize. This was my 24oth book this year and I have to say this was a very pleasant change to what I normally read. I realized after finishing this that there was a book 1 so I will read that next. A Great Job! Great Reading Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope there is more to come with these characters!!!!!!
The story of the ghost hearing professor was a delight. To go through life hearing dead people is not something that most people would be able to handle (especially when they are teaching a class) but he does it well. The way he goes about finding the missing children is truly inspired. This book is definitely a good read and I enjoyed it very much.
I'm absolutely in love with this new ( to me ) series. It keeps me turning page after page. It also keeps me up until all hours of the morning until I can't keep my eyes open anymore. Anyone who enjoys good ghostly mysteries needs to read these first 2 books in this series. You surely won't regret it.
I’m disappointed that Kindle Scout didn’t pick this one up. It’s quite fun and enjoyable. Clairaudient hears ghosts and solves mysteries. Thank you especially for the short at the end. We hear about their first encounter, but it’s a good short story.
This book “Ghost at the College” is one of the best Ghost mysteries write-ups. Julianne did this very enjoyable and realistic mode, we cannot feel fear when reading. I liked very much – Congrats to Julianne.
This was a great read. Quick read flows great. Good plot and follow through. Can't wait for the next book. I enjoy this author and this series. I look forward to reading more from this author.
kindle unlimited but got it on a freebie day, no idea what book I read that thought was this one, because no way would I have given this the 5 it was; having everything seem to be first person present tense, yet not really in some cases, was confusing, so much so that also re-read book 2, and again no idea what the 5's were for, which #1 #2 books, but those were NOT it, have put it to the 3 {goodreads 2 okay, amazon's 3 okay}
