Rick Bettencourt writes LGBTQ+ fantasy with forbidden love, found family, and a dash of humor. His signature series, The Rise of the Normals, follows Diesel, a wolf-shifter who’d rather be “normal,” even if love—and the pack—complicate everything. Expect heart, humor, and claws.

With over 100,000 books sold, Rick is a former president of the Florida Writers Association and an active author coach and speaker. Readers can expect emotional, hopeful journeys with queer romance, loyalty under pressure, and a wink of mischief.

He lives in Florida with his husband and a very opinionated dog, but his New England roots still tug at him (and justify drinking iced coffee year-round). Diesel—the wolf-shifter who thinks he’s the star of everything—occasionally insists on editorial control. I recieved this Arc from Rick Bettencourt in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to Rick and I was happy to read and review your book.
it was a big read.but also very fun.it made me feel a multitude
of emotions,sad,fun,frustration,confusion.
it was all good.

I liked the novel, because it makes you think and feel.
and that is a great selling point for me.
the characters are "real" people with flaws and greatness.
And are easy to relate to.
because nobody is perfect and everybody wants it to be.
this is for me a well deserved 5 stars read.

I liked the guys, but I loved Dillon the most.
Evan was sometimes to needy for me.(personel taste)

Mikey act his age maybe a bit to mature, but with his background
it is only naturel.
The Trans and A sexual side characters, where for me adittions to the story
and not distracting.
They are just part off the story, but to kill off Vilhelm.
Is a bit harsh,poor guy.
I am not overly sentimental, but I did cry.

Evan and Dillon felt real.
But also for me and there comes the
love for Dillon for me.
He has more faith in there Union.

He simply loves Evan, despite everything.Evan is more
insecure and alLows doubt to ease in.Maybe because off the Cancer fight.
Maybe because it is in his nature. But that is for me the real threat and not
the side characters.for me they spice things up and bringing lingering doubts
to the surface.I loved the growing both guys are making.

And lets not forget Deets, wat a sweety.Animals can make a story
more fun and more normal.

The genres are good, I can relate easy to them.Because despite what a lot
of people think.we are not all that different.

I love however a bit more sexy scene`s,because the book has a lot off chapters.
It can be overwhelming and if you`re not careful to angsty or too much drama.
It can make a heavy read, but not this one.

I have read Marketing Beef and loved the Builing us.
You can read it as a standalone
but for really getting in to the heart off things.
I will recommend to read MB.
And why not, they are great guys.

The happy ending was good,For me,they deserved it.

Looking forward to reading more

Another mad and wonderfully fun read from Rick Bettencourt
We met Evan and Dillion in MARKETING BEEF. Endearing and such opposites with Dillan’s crazy (but elegant designer spending) and Evan’s overly cautious, second guessing nature and now five years married they have a few new challenges.
Their once highly successful marketing business is failing, Ethan’s cancer though having passed the six-month clearance has left him listless and in a funk. Marketing proposals are created for potential clients and then quickly low- balled by their competitor Rocket Marketing. Employees have been terminated due to the lack of business. Their life is floundering in a particularly rough patch.
A Hollywood production company filming a movie just might offer a solution to the current cash crisis when an offer is made to use their dog Detritus in the film, oh and a little scene too, for handsome Dillion who has caught the eye of the film’s leading man. Thus, begins a crazy, engrossing read, a book you cannot simply close because you must know what comes next, no matter what your watch says. The three of them traipse throughout the New England countryside in the middle of a cold, snowy winter. Falling under the influence of robbers, thieves, dog nappers, paparazzi without consciences, heroic snows, a mysterious movie star and his collection of uncommon to abnormal handlers, as well as, a potential link to a personal past. WHEW!! Many laughing out loud paragraphs and many that have you reaching for tissues. An unusual structure gives short and long chapters, which allows an easy to follow read.
SERIOUSLY this is a must read. A standalone is fine, but if you loved Dillon and Ethan in MARKETING BEEF then BUILDING US is a must! The entire book is a great adventure and will become a ‘re-read’ on your bookshelf.

I was so excited to see a follow-up to the book, Marketing Beef. I adored the characters from that story and was left wanting more. This book delivers on a great story that is sometimes funny, and sometimes heartbreaking. I laughed and cried and laughed again. The author delivers a solid story that will stay with you and having you believe in love. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I received a copy of this book from the author, my review has been voluntarily submitted.

Building a Family with Trust

I really loved this book. The plot keeps you racing from one disaster to the next. From one miscommunication to the next. To locations coast to coast. During the course of making a movie, making friends and discovering the healing power of love you'll fall in love too.

Thank you Rick for the ARC...even though I did go ahead and buy a copy!

When I read Marketing Beef, which I really enjoyed, I felt invested in the characters. I like Dillon and Evan. This time around, not so much. As much as I wanted to continue the feels from the first book, I just didn’t care for what the characters Dillon and Evan had become. I didn’t find them to be particularly endearing. They were just too stuck in their own heads.
Then the “adventure” we’re taken on as they head up to New Hampshire was just too crazy and all over the place. It was just a bit much. With the exception of Pike and Madeline, from Book 1, and Javier, there were no truly likable characters. The situation with Mikey near the end was sweet but it just took too much to get there. As the later chapters got shorter, the flipping around from one scene to the next was working my nerves.
Add to all that some editing mistakes and swapped names, and I couldn’t help feel that Marketing Beef should have stopped at Book 1.
