Christmas in Atlantis by Alyssa Day

Prequel to the Poseidon’s Warrior series which is a spin of the Warriors of Poseidon series.
Fantasy paranormal romance novella.
Can be read without reading any of the books in either series although key characters from the first series make brief appearances. Just know that Atlantis has risen from its thousands of years hidden underwater and is interacting with today’s world bringing magic and the mythical to life.

Dare is an Atlantian Pirate. He’s fallen in love with Lyric, a painter in St Augustine, Florida. As a pirate, he doesn’t think he’s worthy of her love.
Lyric has her own art gallery and is not limited by her blindness. She has fallen in love with Dare but knows he is meant for the sea.
They should talk to each other! Fortunately they do resolve their initial reserve and deepen their relationship.

I enjoyed their self made romance title: The Painter and the Wicked Pirate. The wicked part was added as jest from their hot love scene. Lyric didn’t want her romance PG rated. Yep, they made it to an R as they commit to each other.

Musical, mystical, and romantic.

this was pretty fun! it started kind of abruptly, and i was mildly confused at the start (EDIT: lmaooo turns out this is book 0.2 in the series ahah, no wonder i was confused!), but i easily caught up and found the characters super fun. the main character was pretty great and didn't let anyone talk crap about her for being blind, the the love interest was the classic 'i'm not good enough for you' bad boy. still, who doesn't love that trope?? the storyline was cute and i liked the futuristic world where atlantis had reappeared and shocked everyone on earth. i also really loved the side characters (and Picasso the cat). plus there was some pretty wicked sexy stuff! ;)

there was also a paragraph of an old christmas story at the beginning of each chapter, and i have to say, i might have been even more invested in that short story than in the real book. i just loved those little paragraphs!! and the story was so cute, the most adorable christmas story i've ever read. i also loved how it blended slightly into the main story.

thanks to amazon kindle and the author for the free book!

Dare is an Atlantean pirate and brother to Liam from Halloween in Atlantis. Lyric is a blind gem singing artist who's been purchasing gems from him for a few years. She apparently grinds the gems into dust and use that to paint - seems quite extravagant!

For some reason, Dare has angered Poseidon and lost his ship and the Sea Spirit that he's linked to and whilst trying to get his ship back, he invited Lyric to Atlantis to spend Christmas.

This is another short story and I felt it did jump around somewhat confusingly at times. But overall, it's nice to see Christmas being celebrated for the first time on Atlantis with some of my favorite Warriors.

A pirate and a blind artist. This romance is so adorable. A short story but with everything you expect from a Poseidon's Warriors book. Christmas comes to Atlantis.

Hmmm... initially, I planned to follow the spin-off series, which was why I tried to familiarize myself with the world by reading Halloween in Atlantis and this one. But while I found the previous to be 'okay' I had a bit of a bump with this one.

It felt like Dare and Lyric had history that I didn't know before, and I always hate the feeling like I am being pushed into something that already happens. I also didn't feel like I have enough context on WHY Poseidon seemed like he disliked Dare.

I guess I'll give the spin-off series a pass and instead focus on Day's other series...

I really like Dare and Lyric. Lyric has been working up the nerve to tell Dare that she is in love with him. He has been visiting her for 6 years and it is about time she tells him of her feelings. Dare is in love with Lyric, but he doesn't think he deserves her. She is way too good for a pirate like him. When Lyric goes to Atlantis with Dare for Christmas, everything changes.

Atlantean pirate woos tough Florida woman at Christmastime. He learns what's most important to him.
I have read this series out of order, which reduced my familiarity with some of the characters.

Holidaze 2019 Day 1 -

Having never read Day before, or the Atlantis series this is related to, I can happily report you don't need to have prior knowledge.

Dare and Lyric are a fairly unlikely pair, but they work together. Lyric grounds Dare, reminds him what's important and worth fighting for. Dare gives Lyric the strength and space to grow beyond her routines.

Some of it I side-eyed; the first scene with Lyric and the amethyst felt out of place in a way I can't put my finger on. And Dare's sudden EUREKA LYRIC IS THE ANSWER also felt a bit out of the ordinary.

And this isn't very Christmas-y insofar as I'm used to with holiday romances.

Overall though I enjoyed this story and feel it was a good start to my holiday reading.

1.5 Stars is a more accurate rating for this novella. I didn't hate it but I can't say that I enjoyed it. It was just kinda there and I only kept reading it because I needed a book with candles on the front for a reading challenge.

Anyways, the plot is pretty basic. Girl and boy love each other but keep it hidden because they don't know how the other feels about them. The girl just happens to be a blind painter name Lyric. The main fella in the book is Dare, and he is an Atlantean pirate!

Yes, Atlantis has risen after being under the sea for 11,000 years. He ships cargo back and forth between human land and the Atlantean one. Now this sounds like it would actually be super cool but it was truly lack luster.

While the setting was intriguing, it was the characters that left something to be desired. At first glance Lyric reads as a relaxed person, and then she would suddenly just snap at someone because she is super touchy. She has this immature, bitchy side that comes out on several occasions, which I didn't like. She is one of those people that seem to always think that if someone says something to her, then they want her to take it badly. That what they said has negative intent.

In one instance Dare asks if she would wish for her sight back and she just snarls at him, something along the lines of a 'What, so I am broken?' kind of thing. She completely bypasses the fact that she knows he adores her and goes straight to the idea of him seeing her as faulty.

Gosh, I can't stand people like that. It's almost like she was looking for something to be offended about. I think if Lyric took the stick out of her keester she would be much more fun to read about. Dare was really nothing special. Just a pirate wanting to reform for Lyric. Pretty generic!

He supposedly works for Poseidon, but we don't get much info on how that came to be, which is too bad because I think that would have made this short a lot better. The side characters weren't very interesting. I think this author has a main book series where these characters are present so they made a side appearance in 'Christmas in Atlantis'.

Naturally all the hunky Atlantean dudes have found human wives(shocker) and the queen who is a human, is nice to Lyric. Alaric was the only side character that grabbed my attention. He was interesting, even if Lyric found him rude. I didn't think anything he said was offensive, but like I said, Lyric like to look for offense where there is none. And that whole April situation was completely unnecessary. It added nothing to the story other than page filler.

There is then the predictably happy ending. Lyric and Dare made things much harder than they needed to be. But due to the 'Christmas miracle' everything works out. The last pages are full of sappy romance. I usually like cheese in my books but this was a bit too sappy.

I like funny and sweet fluff, not sappy poetic crap. I think that is where the author lost me a lot of the time. Her main character is a painter who likes poetry and stuff like that. To be perfectly honest, that sort of thing bores me to tears. It's so BORING!

Needless to say I will not be reading anymore books from this author. I simply do not think that her writing style is my cup of tea. I need to look elsewhere for my reading material. Onward to new books with hopefully better heroines.

Christmas in Atlantis by Alyssa Day is part of her new Poseidon’s Warriors series, in which she will be doing a novella in every month of 2018. We can look forward to more fun in Atlantis with some of our favorites from the past (Warriors of Poseidon). Christmas in Atlantis was a fun quick paranormal romance that you can enjoy and finish in one sitting.

We meet our hero, Dare, on his ship as they are trying to survive a terrible storm. Dare and his water spirit, Seranth do everything they can to save the crew, as well as asking the Sea God, Poseidon for help. But when Dare goes overboard, he calls for the Atlantis portal to escape.

Lyric Fielding is our heroine, who is blind and a famous painter; she is also a gem singer. Lyric has been dating Dare for 5 years, and knows that she has fallen in love with him. She has been anxiously waiting almost a year for him to return home from his trip, and plans to approach him about her feelings.

Dare ends up at Lyric’s house all wet, and feverish. Lyric takes care of him, and during his feverish ramblings, he professes his love. What follows is a sweet romance, with a wonderful couple, especially Lyric, who was a fun and brave heroine. Dare will bring Lyric to Atlantis, fulfilling a dream for her and it is there that the fun begins for us when we see most of our favorites from Atlantis. Lyric was in her glory being in Atlantis, and meeting Queen Riley and the others, who welcomes her openly. Dare was beside himself when he learns that Poseidon was taking away his ship and his water spirit. Will Lyric and Dare stay together? Will Dare find a way to get his beloved ship back?

Being a huge fan of Warriors of Poseidon, I was thrilled that Alyssa would be bringing us back to Atlantis. Christmas in Atlantis was a fun read, with a heroine that was so likable; a romance that was heartwarming, filled with love and sacrifice, as well as enjoying the wonderful secondary characters. If you enjoy a sweet pure romance, some excitement and a great couple, I suggest you read Christmas in Atlantis. Thank you Alyssa for bringing us back home to Atlantis.

pirate ship; her home/studio; Atlantis - palace and gardens;

unfulfilled potential... until... her

Dare : left his difficult family at a young age for the sea; is now the captain of a ship (Luna); Poseidon paired him with sea spirit Seranth; he pirates the seas... and is pushing it this time, with a pair of beautiful unicorns;

Seranth: sea spirit, paired by Poseidon with Dare on their ship - the Luna.

Lyric Fielding: blinded in car accident that took her parent's lives when she was 10; she can still see light, sometimes... and found when she mixes gemstone dust she can 'see' it; she paints and makes her way around the Floridian

LIam and Jaimie: Dare's brother and new wife;

6 years earlier, Dare makes a delivery of questionable goods to Lyric... and since then he made stops in the shop, sometimes with requests, sometimes with gifts, when he is in town; she is ready to tell him that she loves him.

But Dare, with a risky, ill-thought through cargo (unicorns) is being punished by Poseidon, tossed overboard by a storm, cut off from Seranth, is drowning - and as about to pass out, sees a portal and with his last thought thinks of Lyric... and winds up in her home and passes out. With a concussion, and refusal to go to a hospital, she cares for him ... and after a few days, they end up in Atlantis...

Where Lyric finds out she is a gem singer (one of only a few), where they finally find each other...

And each chapter leads with a bit of OHenry's Gift of the Magi... and it is duplicated here, where she is given a gift and could wish for her sight back... but chooses to ask Poseidon to return Seranth to Dare... and Dare sells his ship, to buy Lyric a Renoir to see with her new sight... ahhh

"Christmas in Atlantis" by Alyssa Day. Book 8.6 in the Warriors of Poseidon series.

This novella is really a bonus story taking place in the Warriors of Poseidon world. This is the second novella in a sort of spin-off series and is now being called "Poseidon's Warriors series."

As the title says, this story takes place at Christmas...in Atlantis. The main characters are Dare and Lyric. Dare is a pirate from Atlantis with a not-so-stellar reputation. Lyric is painter from Florida. For the past 5 years, Dare has being seeing Lyric but only once or twice a month and recently, even less so. But Lyric has realized that she loves Dare and is going to tell him when next they meet. She just didn't think it would be in her house, with Dare being delirious and ill, falling at her door!

Well I don't want to say to much more because this IS a novella and I'd be telling you the whole story if I did. I will say that you get two stories in one with this book. Ms. Day's retelling of the story of the "Gift of the Magi" is included as bits of the story before each chapter.

This story is a very light romance in that there are no explicit sex scenes. It's more of a fade-to-black, you-know-what-happening type of thing. I also wish there was more "Christmas" mentioned.

But overall, this was a sweet and romantic little novella. And there was a hint of what's coming next for the Warriors of Poseidon, A Year of Atlantis. Can't wait to read them.

How often do you come across a Christmas paranormal romance? For me- once in a blue moon and I’m more than happy to get on the Christmas read bandwagon. Now if you know me you know I’m not a fan of novellas but this one hit the spot- it’s a short and sweet little Christmas miracle.
.
The hero is an Atlantean sea captain/pirate who angers Poseidon who then takes away his ship (which is his life). Our heroine is blind and a talented artist (what a combo right?). They have both known each other for years and are secretly in love with the other. The hero invites our heroine to spend Christmas in Atlantis which she gladly jumps at the chance of.
.
Now this book reached 4❤️ status for the heroine alone- she is blind but she does not let anyone make her think it is a disability and when she is given a wish, she is the first one to take issue with everyone thinking she should get back her sight- no siree not for this girl! Unfortunately it was a fade to black romance (I admit I love the 🔥🔥), but it was still a short and sweet little Christmas read that followed a retelling of a lovely old short story called “Gift of the Magi”.

Pirate and a painter romance

Lyric is a young woman from Florida who is a painter, she is also blind. She was left blind after a terrible accident that killed her parents. She has a special gift that when she holds gems or paints with them she can see some light and shadows.
Dare is a pirate from the mythical island of Atlantis. He is a loner and has been most of his life. Dare and Lyric develops a friendship for 6 years before they realize that they have stronger feelings for one another.
I thought this story would be more Christmas themed based on the title but sadly Christmas is barely mentioned, there is one spot in the story where a character sings Christmas carols but that's about it.
The story itself was kind of flat, the romance was flat, no fireworks when they realized they loved each other. No chase or courting, just a I woke up this morning and realized after 6 years that I love you, let's go get a coffee..
I was hoping for better because I like this author but it didn't work for me. It is a two star story but I gave it a three because I like the author.. Sorry..

Lyric is an artist and she meets Dare for the first time six years ago when he came to her shop to bring gems she had oredered for her paints. Dare is a pirate from Atlantis and he doesn't believe that he is good enough for her. But they never tell each other that they are in love with the other. When she finally decides to tell him she realizes she hasn't seen him in months and the fact that they don't know each other really and they have only been together a total of maybe 30days in all the 6yrs. she gets nervous but just before Christmas he comes falling through her door but he is soaked to the bone and hurt. The story really gets good when he recovers and takes her Christmas holiday. We also have a side story with the same kind of selfless love between Della and Jim. This is a wonderful story of love and the best gift that they could share between each other selflessness. Characters are great Enjoying the Atlantis series. I purchased a copy and I am providing an honest review.

I enjoyed Dare and Lyric's story. I heard about them when I read January in Atlantis, so I looked forward to going back and reading about them. Dare is a pirate who has lost his ship due to some poor choices and when near death, the only place he wants to be is with Lyric. When he stumbles into her art studio and collapses, Lyric is terrified that she has lost her chance to tell Dare that she has loved him for a while.  She nurses him back to health and he whisks her to Atlantis for Christmas. He knows he is no good to her, but can't help wanting to be by the woman he loves, but it becomes impossible to be just friends. Their story was passionate and sweet.  I really liked Lyric as a character, she was dynamic and easy to relate to. She hates being defined by her disability (blindness), and the few times people treat her like something less, she really stands up for herself which I loved watching.  Love the series and look forward to more.

Another phenomenal book by Alyssa Day!! This new series that starts with Halloween in Atlantis is proving to be just as great as the series that started it all! I always know that I'll love the storyline of each book because Alyssa Day consistently delivers what I love in a book! I love the descriptive scenery of Atlantis because it is so magical and beautiful & it makes you want to go live there! I really love the humor too and how you can feel what the characters are feeling! Oh & last but not least and my MOST favorite things are the HOT HUNKY Atlantean warriors, the romance & the "OFF THE CHARTS CHEMISTRY" !!! Christmas in Atlantis is the story about Dare and Lyric and how they come to realize how much they love each other & that no sacrifice is too big for that love!! If this is the type of story you like to read then these books are so right for you!!

Since this is more a novella/short story rather than a novel or full length book, it tells a story, but in a really rushed way. Characters have some draw to them, but the story is so rushed it feels fake sometimes. I really liked the female character, but thought she deserved a lot more development time. More details and a deeper fleshed out personalization. Sadly, a novella just can't do that. A novella is more of a sneak peek than a complete story and it just feels to pushed to deliver any real punch. And the whole magi thing was wayyyyy to forced. It is like there was a story there but it was forced to fit in a gift of the magi frame that didn't really fit.

3.5 stars.

I'm having difficulty with an artist who is blind and never has actually seen the colors of the paints she's using. I can sort of believe the gem singer bit helps, but she was an artist before that.

The H... :shrug.

This one is a retelling of the Gift of the Magi - he gives up something for her, and she gives up something for him. The catch of course being that the mutual gifts are dependent on the recipient having something that they gave up.

The print volume also includes Halloween in Atlantis, which is set *before* Christmas in Atlantis but by virtue of...some odd choice there I suppose, is the last...third I guess...of the book. I actually liked it better.

Enjoyable Quick 2 Story Read.

Another wonderful well written, story with a bonus tale in between the chapters for our entertainment pleasure.
No Spoilers here, read the blurb, check out the review's, download the book, and be entertained for an hour or so, for less than a cup of Joe.
I'm a huge fan of Ms Day's work and would recommend her book's to whoever wants to get lost in the world of Atlantis and the men and women, who inhabit this fantasy realm of mystical myths and legends, even if it's only for a few hour's.
On to the next book, "January in Atlantis" which at this time you can download for FREE!😀

Very sweet story for the holidays

If you're already a fan of Alyssa Day, you'll love this addition to her Warriors of Poseidon series. You can get cozy with familiar characters in a familiar setting. If you're new to Alyssa Day, this is a paranormal romance with a lot of heartfelt emotion. It's wonderful that the main character isn't perfect because none of us are. The heroine is very relatable and she's a huge draw for the story. Give this sweet story a read, you'll be glad you did!

I just finished this marvelous book, and it jingle bell rocks. It made me laugh, smile, and cry just a bit. (The good kind of crying).

Wonderful tale, with love and sacrifice. Great characters. Not just the main characters, Dare and Lyric, but the supporting ones as well. Very well written, I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a bit of the paranormal, Atlantis, or an enchanting romance.

I love the Poseidon's Warriors series. And can't wait for the next book.

I love Alyssa Day's writing, and I'm beyond excited there will be a book per month next year. This is a great start, and I'm loving that we're back in the world of Atlantis with the characters I've come to love.

Loved Dare and Lyric's story, my only real criticism is that it's too short, but that's only because I wanted more! Lyric is a great character and loved how her 'disability' is anything but. Great idea including 'The Gift of the Magi' which I wasn't familiar with before.

Christmas in Atlantis

Alyssa Day has done it again. This is a wonderful new book for the Warriors of Poseidon series. Dare learns the love means more than the sea and sometimes it can find you one the land in the eyes of a painter. Lyric waits for years to open her heart to The Pirate from the sea. There Christmas in Atlantis makes them both see the truth behind what love shows a way whether by land or sea.

This paranormal romantic reboot of The Gift of the Magi was delightful! Love, sacrifice, and the Christmas spirit abound as Lyric and Dare realize their feelings for each other. It feels like ages since I last picked up this series, but it’s nice to know Poseidon’s Warriors can still charm and make me laugh!

Love it

The Gift of the Magi has been my favorite since I was a kid. This story was great. It had the spirit and love as the original did. Care needed a wake up call. Harshly he got one but he also found love. She is perfect for him. With much patience and love she heals his hurts. Loved her sense of humor and her fierce spjrit.

Mid Series Novella: A Pirate from Atlantis (recently risen from hidden depths) and a Blind Artist. Classic story of Dude feeling unworthy of a worth woman's love, while she knows little of his hidden path.
There was a lot going on here and having read no other book in this series I just felt a little lost.
