Slight lie. I decided to DNF. I started out really enjoying the remaining story and then it took a turn. Like a HUGE turn. If opened really competently and dragged me in, but then it's almost like someone else entirely wrote it. And it looks as if this story makes up most of, if not all of, the rest of the book. Like a full novel, instead of the novelettes that have been in here lately. Basically, there were a few good stories in the collection, and at the point I DNFed was almost at 80%. I got one or two pretty good stories out of it. Some of it was good enough writing, just not my taste.
This time around I am giving a great big shout out to four of the authors from the Through the Never. R. L. Blalock, Craig Martelle, Debbie Cassidy & Richard Amos, Sharolyn G. Brown
The Fall of Endurance by R.L. Blalock
Laure is one of many traveling in space looking for new home to start a new life to keep humans from becoming extinct when they run into debris and have to land the ship quickly. Not to worry though they have the best pilot alive commanding the ship.
When they land on this new planet which they hope will be their new home they run into a lot more than they were hoping for.
Can they make this new planet their home? Will they be welcomed? Will they want to stay? Will they have a choice?
R. L. Blalock has knocked it out the ball park again. She has written another great story. While reading The Fall of Endurance you feel what the characters are feeling and see what they see. R. L. is one of those writers that can make you feel a connection to all the characters and the writer as well.
Sneak Peak:
“Critical system failure. All personnel, report to the bridge.”
“What happened?” I demanded, finally looking up at the woman who hovered over me. Her face was tight and her mouth set into a grim line.
“The ship needs to go planetside. Now.” All I could do was blink back at the woman as my mind tried to process what she had just told me.
Planetside? Had they finally found a planet?
The Outcast by Craig Martelle
As part of his punishment a prisoner is sent out in a spaceship to survey asteroids. All he has for companionship is the voice of the computer.
This one a very good short one which I enjoyed more than I thought I would in the beginning. The ending was out of this world. I never saw it coming.
Sneak Peak:
The pilot’s seat also served as the dining chair, the bed, the couch, or whatever Benny needed it for. He lived and worked within thirty-four square feet.
His entire world was contained in that small space.
Across the Starlight Blue by Debbie Cassidy and Richard Amos
A spaceship traveling through space looking for a new home is hit by debris and has to land quickly. After taking the shuttles to their new planet they are attacked by these alien bird like creatures upon entering the planet’s atmosphere. Will they survive the attack? Can they make this new planet their home? Or have they traveled all this way for nothing?
I really liked getting inside Becca’s head when she was first introduced the alien bird like creatures. This was a wonderful little short which I really enjoyed reading.
Sneak Peak:
Sixty years he’d been monitoring this ship while they slept, which was another reason making him too human was a bad idea. A human would probably have gone insane alone on a spaceship for sixty years.
Rodan’s Awakening by Sharolyn G. Brown
A young girl’s home is attacked and her whole family is lost. Rodan embarks on a journey to find the ones who attacked her home and make them pay.
Sneak Peak:
“We cannot go into the encampment. They are under attack. We need to go and call for help. The factions need to know we need help.”
“There is no time. We need to go and help our people fight. My parents are there. Your parents are there.”
“I know my parents are there,” Rodan snapped. “But you and I are not fighters. We need to call for assistance.” Rodan walked away from their encampment and toward the comm center.
I have not had a chance to read all the books in this anthology, but I do look forward to it. I have read books by a few authors in this collection (Tina Glasneck, Sarah K. L. Wilson, Brandon Barr & JC Kang). My review is only for Dragon’s Awakening: Journey to Asgard by Tina Glasneck. This book is part of Glasneck’s Dragons series. It is a very pleasant story that has a very unique story line and introduces a few fun Norse Gods. A great companion to her ongoing series or if you haven’t read her work it’s a great starting place.
The story follows Norse God Baldr when he whisks away Nanna, a human, from evil in her time and takes her to Asgard. Baldr loves Nanna without hesitation and couldn’t leave her to die in her time, but Nanna is wary and must learn what it means to love someone and let them in. Their love will be tested by many in Asgard.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All my opinions and thoughts are in no way influence by this.

Ok, this is an amazing anthology. I’ve read - and uniformly enjoyed - books written by all but two of the contributors, and several of my absolute favorite authors are contributors. I usually read anthology stories out of order so as to grab fave authors first but there are too many here so I’m just reading in order.
Easily a five star read just based on the stories I’ve already read. Here is a brief blurb on each of them:
Savior, by JA Culican (giving the story behind Morgana from JA Armitage and JA Culican’s Dragon Tamer series, the first book of which - Slayer - I read in the Shattered Worlds anthology; a “must read” for anyone who loves “dragons, werewolves and slayers”)
Neurogenesis by Brandon Barr (this is a real thriller of a novel - Cadet Javen Worth is about to find out that Nero, his instructor at Ledmeer Cadet Academy, has a preferred method of dealing with insubordinate students: killing them)
Mowab Rider by Lucía Ashta (a wonderful adventure that’s the prequel to the author’s Planet Origin series, with Tanus and Dolpheus, 2 formerly senior solders, in a race to find and rescue Ilara, the supposedly dead Andaron Dynasty princess of all Origin, now hiding in the Wilds)
Paint the Night by Sarah K. L. Wilson (Amandera Mubaru sets off to keep her kingdom safe by marrying the High Tazmin of Canderabai as his tribute bride ... but her heart gets diverted along the way in this first book of what I can tell already will be a wonderful series)
Great anthology packed with 12 awesome Short story's for you! ( and me). I was gifted copy by R.L. Blalock and thank you!! she is only author I know sadly. I glad she did because I find few I really liked. No I didn't just read hers or skip any. I read from the beginning to very last book.
So special shout out to R. L. Blalock ( of course), Lucia ashta, Frost Kay, Debbie cassidy and Richard amos and sharolyn brown.
And to the other's thank you for also getting to know you're writing style as well.
{I like to let you know I don't do reviews for each book in anthologies I believe it's unfair because most anthologies new short story's or spin off from series. I only give them Star's and thanks and shout outs to author's I really liked. }

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book for an honest opinion
I'm usually not much of an anthology reader but there were some good stories in this collection. A few of my favorites were... Savior by J.A. Vulcan- The legend of Morgana: a dragonslayer. Shunned into exile, she must go where she's never gone before. A world of Dragon and werewolf shifter.
Paint the Night by Sarah K.L. Wilson- contains magic weavers and a betrothed Princess who gas for a prince (not her betrothed).
The Fall of Endurance by R.L. Blalock - Hopes of a new planet for life quickly fades as the inhabitants of the spaceship, Endurance, encounter the aliens that already live there.
The Outcast by Craig Martelle- the story of one convict sent out for rehabilitation. This story has a great little twist at the end.
So far I have read Lucia Ashta’s Mowab Rider and it’s fantastic! This is a novella which introduces the reader, just a smidgeon, to her Purple Worlds series. It is an unusual talent to be able to ride a fierce mowab especially so if one is a woman. The scenery is well described and easily imagined. We can feel the distrustful tension that exists between the King’s army and the rebels, but the bond is strong between Tanus and Dolpheus. Also, their connection to their horses is unwavering in battle. To lose your horse in battle can be just as crippling to the warriors as if losing an appendage. I would recommend this novella only to mature adults due to language and sexual content.
Dragon’s Awakening: Journey to Asgard by Tina Glasneck This fascinating prequel to her Dragon series goes by in a flash. There's so much action, intrigue, and emotion that it's easy to get lost in the story. We see the Aesir gods in a way we haven't seen them before. And we're introduced to Nanna, the mortal Baldr loves who's suddenly thrust into a world she's in no way prepared for. Can she love Baldr back? Will she survive Asgard and all it's 'gifts'? I received a complimentary advanced copy of this story
*I will be doing updates of new reviews when I complete the stories within this collection*
I usually read anthology and collection stories out of order, due to the fact I will read my favorite authors first when I am on other deadlines. So far in this anthology I have read Dragon’s Awakening: Journey to Asgard by Tina Glasneck. This is the prequel story to Dragon Queen and let me say even though it is a quick read there is plenty of action, intrigue and emotions that get you lost in the story.
Dragons Awakening by Tina Glasneck This is an origin story of Dragon Queen. Quick read with a matter: can we love someone we don't know? Join Nanna and Baldr in their journey
