Tarry.

Tarry is a good word, but it’s overuse in this novel has led me to put it down only halfway through. It’s not that it’s used incorrectly, it’s that it’s overused and it’s such an underused word in common speech that it throws your imagination right out of the story the same was the repetition of fictional words like “rasplaughter” can. It’s a shame, because the story is great, but I just can’t keep myself in the world for all these annoying contrivances.

Book 4 starts with Daoren, as Unum, and Heqet now married and with a child arriving soon, viewing the crops out by the wall and cull zone. Daoren has brought in many changes to Daqin Guojin and the way it is run, taking away the power of the higher status citizens and removed their large stockpiles of grooll, dismantling the grooll mill and stopping the SAT test and so on.

He has made some obvious enemies with these changes, especially among the privileged populous. Whilst near the wall, one enemy has started an attack - the mongrels from out in the wastelands, with an enormous force of attack and troop ships. Whilst trying to deal with this, an enemy has gathered on the inside of the city and now the war is coming from two sides. Can Daoren and Heqet, his friends, family and colleagues survive the attack?

Daoren and Heqet become prisoners, but one in Havoc and one under the hands of Julinian. Daoren will find out some truths about his past and have to learn who he should trust. Heqet and baby Mako get taken by one despot and then another. Can Daoren get back to the city assembly and find Heqet and the baby or even defeat his enemies before they destroy the city and reverse all of his new dictates. Will they all survive this latest setback?

Another fantastic book in the Extinction Odyssey series, with another two to come. I’ve loved each book in the series so far and this one sees the main characters in the most peril and leaves you not knowing quite what might happen to them all.

I was lucky to receive a copy of this book from the author and o have freely given my own opinion of the book above. Can’t wait for the next ones. I would recommend to all.

"No price is too costly when it comes to ambition." This is true for more than one person in this book.
What stands out for me is how much the author has managed to achieve in such a limited world. With no flora, no fauna, only sand and humans, the level of technology is astounding. The brutality is horrifying. There is action in abundance, with the fight for power growing ever more vicious. The more I read of this series the more impressed I am.

Loved it! So many twists and turns; at times I thought I would get dizzy. Will Daoren survive? Will he and his mother find Heqet and Mako? Will everyone learn how to get along? I can't wait to find out.

This being book four continued to enrich my reading diet. I found that the storyline held my attention with little effort. I just could not put it down, and now I await book five

Non stop action!

This installment of this series was simply non stop action from beginning to end.

Definitely recommend but sad to have to remove a star for the less than perfect proof reading.

Next to last in series. When this began I was annoyed at the exquisite detail the author wrote into the book. But now I can understand why. Great writing Mike!!
