Book four in the series has Cousin Cassidy James McCall a country music star coming into town to find herself after the death of her mother, her voice, and what she thinks is her career. Her manager has done some under handed deals while she was grieving and took advantage of her. Now going to a place with Gramps and her cousin’s she is looking for a safe place. What she finds though is her lost love that she threw away only to find out that he married and has a daughter, and that the mother, wife passed after Molly was a year old. Now she is looking at what could have been. All of the characters from the other books are in this one which makes for a nice story to see where each of the brothers her cousins are with their wife’s. What really makes this story though is Ryder, Cassidy’s lost love and his daughter Molly. Molly is a hoot and really catches you from the beginning all the way to the end. A really good story to go along with the other books in the series. I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
The Gist: Cassidy has come home to hide. Her singing career and life have become one massive disaster and she needs a place to heal and recover. Literally running into her ex and the man she still loves? And finding out he has a baby? Well that's gonna take a whole different kind of healing to recover from.
Cassidy and Ryder were nice characters. Ryder is a single daddy doing his absolute best to give his 5 year old a good life. He's a bit worn down but he tries so hard and that was sweet. Cassidy is a bit of a disaster but has a good heart and trying to figure out her new life after injuring her vocal cords. They have a ton of history seeing as she broke his heart years earlier to chase her music career. So there were some painful things for them to get past.
It was a sweet story. Not just the romance but the family as a whole. His little girl meeting her idol and finding a mother figure (her's had died when she was a baby). Seeing how much he cared for his daughter. The extended family on Cassidy's side. It was just a nice bit of warm fuzzies as they deal with some of the harder bits in life and the holidays.
And easy read that's sweet and touching. The writing was decent. There were places I thought needed a bit more fleshing out or explanation but overall it was a nice little escape.
I love to read books about Christmas, even when it is not anywhere close to Christmas time. This is one of those books that I will be reading and reading time and time again. There is just something about it that drew me in. Yes it is a romance and yes it is a book based around the holiday season but there is also laughter and just a plain good second chance romance from the heart. There is something about second chance love stories that are extra special and if they include children... all the better. I received an advanced copy of this book but it did not have anything to do with how I liked or didn't like this story at all. Any story with a pet horse named Sweet Potato in it has to be good to read right? Well, Gramps has a pet horse, No Lie and she goes everywhere with him. She is a miniature horse but a horse nonetheless. Cassidy ,Molly and Ryder have a wonderful story to tell. I hope you enjoy it like I did.
I thought I’d give The Cowboy’s Christmas Bride a go because it’s about a down and out country singer, and the hero is an former bull rider with a young daughter. Ryder is Cassidy’s ex, and she broke his heart. I figured with the small town setting, it wouldn’t be long before they were constantly pushed into each other’s company, and I was right.
Cassidy is dealing with quite a bit. Her mother passed away recently, and she’s still grieving her loss. She’s ruined her voice and had to have surgery to repair her vocal cords, and months later, she’s still not sure whether or not she’ll ever sing again. Her manager lied to her and robbed her blind, leaving her with pretty much only her truck, her guitar, and her dog. Things are mighty bleak for a woman who once stood at the top of the country music charts.
Ryder is raising his young daughter alone, after losing his wife to cancer. He’s trying hard to be a good dad, but some things are just beyond him. Fixing Molly’s hair, grocery shopping, and cooking are all getting harder as Molly gets older. He’s working himself to the bone, trying to get the house he’s building move in ready by Christmas, so Molly can celebrate the holidays in comfort. When Cassidy slams into his truck and totals it, he’s determined that she won’t run over his heart. Again.
There were a few things about the book that drove me nuts. The major hang up was Cassidy’s dislike of the being in the spotlight. Hello! She wants to take the country music world by storm, making a comeback to grab people’s attention, but she doesn’t want to have anything to do with the corresponding media involved. Being a star means being in a fish bowl, and if she really hated being the focus of the press that badly, she really needed to explore new career opportunities.
Molly is bound and determined that her father is going to find a bride by Christmas, so she can be like all of the other kids in her school and have both a mother and a father. She latches onto Cassidy, who she idolizes, and makes a not so subtle run for them to get together. When she learns that Cassidy and Ryder knew each other, years ago, she’s even more determined to keep throwing them together. I was surprised when this plot device didn’t bother me. I even liked Molly, and how she and Gramps worked together to keep Ryder and Cassidy together.
Cassidy is hurt at first to learn that Ryder married her rival for his affections, but, hey, girl, you dumped him like yesterday’s trash. While Cassidy was busy chasing her father’s dream for her to be a big star, she broke up with Ryder, so she wouldn’t hurt him down the road. I don’t know what she was thinking, that maybe Ryder would chase her from one run-down bar and country rodeo after another, and beg her to take him back? She had no right to be jealous or upset that he carried on with life after her. There were times I had a hard time understanding Cassidy’s motives and emotions. Ryder’s I could completely understand. Cassidy had turned her back on him once, putting her music career above him, and there was no reason to think that she wouldn’t do that again.
Despite some quibbles, this was actually a heart-felt read. Cassidy’s emotional turmoil, dealing with her uncertainty about her voice, her rage about her manager leaving her penniless, and her grief over her mother’s death, were all compelling. Throw in one ex-boyfriend she never got over, and you have the mixings for an engaging read.
Admittedly I’m in love with any Christmas Romance, there is a precious magic about these stories that will always touch my heart. However, there is always a special spot for those series that I’ve followed that include a Christmas tale. Since most of what I read revolves around family and love in one fashion or another, it makes perfect sense that I enjoy visiting with characters I somewhat know over the holiday season. That’s probably why catching up with Cassidy, who is a cousin to the McCall family, was such a delightful Christmas present.
Cassidy made a choice years ago, one that set her feet on this path today. She turned her back on love and its possibilities to follow her father’s dream for her as though it were her own. Now she’s still reeling from the death of her mother, the surgery to her vocal cords and the lies that her thieving manager told her in order to take just about everything from her when she was down. Now she’s heading to a place that her heart calls home – to Gramps, her cousins and maybe some peace from the media circus that surrounds her lately. What she didn’t expect was the man she’d never stopped loving, the man she gave up so they could each follow their dreams… and now knows what a huge mistake that decision was. But maybe with some tender loving care, a little girl’s winsome ways, and a dusting of Christmas magic Cassidy and Ryder can find what they’d lost – and start their own Christmas traditions, like sticking together for good.
The Cowboy’s Christmas Bride is a touching second chance at getting it right romance. Life didn’t stop moving forward for either of them in the years apart. Lessons learned, hearts broken and mended, perhaps there was a chance that they could get “them” right this time. There’s a lot of heartache in the country music industry, and we get a taste of the struggles Cassidy has gone through to reach the heights. Now other voices mean much more to her, like one man and one little girl’s… and those are the important ones to listen to this time. It’s always fun to catch up with members of the family in a series and I was so happy to see all the brothers and their wives once again.
Whether you’re in the mood for a heartwarming Christmas romance, or a second chance at love for two people who really belong together you’ll find a fantastic story in The Cowboy’s Christmas Bride. I’d recommend Cassidy and Ryder’s romance to any reader who enjoys a good love story, touches of holiday magic and characters who leap off the page.

Okay, I did not really like this book. The plot was good, the protagonists were sort of okay, but for me, the telling of the story was just plain awful, sorry to say that. The reader got to know in the first chapter, more or less, why Cassidy broke up with Ryder all those years ago. The overabundance of repetitive thought processes retelling this in slightly different words did not make the story more interesting, on the contrary. The dialogues were sort of stilted, and far too scarce; to make up for this (this is pure sarcasm!) the author decided to give us lots (and I mean lots) of thoughts and anxieties of the protagonists. From chapter 4 or so onwards, I as a reader was tempted to shout at them and shake some sense into them. Sentence structure was there, oh yes, but it did not always fit anything I learnt about the English language - at times, it seemed that whole sentences or even paragraphs were missing, there was no easy flow to the story. What there was in abundance were weird statements I did not understand; maybe those were colloquialisms, and as I did not grow up in Texas, I don't have to understand them, right? There was also an overabundance of other grammar and spelling errors, repetitions, and "gushiness" (not sure if that is a word, but I do not care, so there). Having said all that, I would not be able to string together a story at all, and then have the courage to publish it, not knowing if readers will like it or, as in my case, will not. So I do respect the author for her work and courage.
A heartfelt second chance love story that churned up all the feels yet left me smiling. There's so much love, loyalty, and sincere caring fit into the story that, like often in a real life, is balanced with the betrayal, fraud, and disappointments. The chemistry and bond between Cassidy James McCall and Ryder Hadley are amazing. The feelings between them are so tangible, like a visible, additional character in the book. This palpable connection between them is managed to present even though most of the time they spent together is used to fight against the awakening old, burning feelings, or with the whole town and paparazzi around them. I wish they would have had more time to get to know each other again, after the years they have spend apart. That was the only (big) thing that kept me from giving this book a five spoon recommendation. Because when you add to this sizzling attraction a little adorable cowboy princess, a large, loving, and protective family, a tight-knit town preparing to celebrate Christmas, and you have the makings of a holiday romance that will melt your heart and make you smile - after dragging you through the emotional wringer. A charming, delightful, and a clean Christmas story that surely will bring up the holiday spirit. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
This is the first book I read by Ms LeClair, and it certainly won’t be the last. I truly loved it. The story centers around Cassidy James McCall. A young woman that left the love of her life, in order to pursue a career as a country singer. When she was reaching the stars, life threw her more than one curveball and now she is back home in Honor, TX, hoping to recover her voice and self-worth. Literally by accident, she crashes into Ryder Hadley . The man she let go and left behind. He is now a widower with a young child that idolizes Cassidy. Feelings are still there for both, but neither wants to have his daughter hurt, nor do they want to go through the pain of letting go once again. While the plot, the main characters as well as the secondary characters, were well developed, what I liked best was the underlying message. It’s a story reminding us that when we are down, someone is there to help us. That love and family are what’s really important and that with a little faith in us , God and others, life should be lived and treasured. A lovely reminder not only during the holiday season, but all year long. I was gifted this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Cassidy has come home to Honor Texas to allow her throat to return to good health. She is a successful country singer and damage to her throat has put her out of commission.
Ryder is a former bull rider, a single father and the man Cassidy left in the dust.
Molly is Ryder's little girl. She is charming and smart and wonderful. She also has always idolized Cassidy and her music. She wants Santa to make Cassidy her Daddy's Christmas Bride.
This is a cute and sweet story of second chances, family love and a terrific little girl.
I liked the story. But, I live in Texas and the dialog is nothing like we actually talk. After a time, it got on my last nerve. I'm from Texas and it flew all over me.
We do have certain phrasing, but we are not dumber than a box of rocks and we do not repeat the same things over and over.
But, in spite of my tiny dissatisfaction, I enjoyed the story. I fell in love with Molly and it is evident that Ryder is a terrific Daddy.
I believe The Cowboy's Christmas was a Free Friday book at one point. Once again I was looking for a Christmas story and found this in my Nook library.
Cassidy is looking for some peace and quiet to recover after a surgery. Deciding her childhood home with her Grandpa is the best place for her Cassidy is shocked when she hits the truck of her ex-boyfriend. Determined to keep things professional while she finishes healing Cassidy does her best to build a wall around her heart locking out Ryder and his little girl Molly.
Ryder never got over Cassidy and when she left to become a music star it broke his heart. Determined to protect his little girl he refuses to get close to Cassidy as she recovers at her family's house. In over his head with little girl duties Ryder focuses on being the best dad he can to Molly.
I tried really hard to read The Cowboy's Christmas Bride but I just did not like it. At around the forty percent mark I just started skimming it. The story was dull to me and too slow of a pace. The writing was average and none of the characters stuck with me.
The Cowboy's Christmas Bride by Laurie LeClair is the fourth book in the McCall Brothers Series. However, all the brothers are happily married so Gramps set his sites on their cousin, Cassidy, a country music song writer and singer. She has come for a four-week Christmas visit. Former boyfriend, now single father Ryder is the one for Cassidy. Gramps and his darling kindergarten daughter agree.
Sweet story with enough drama and regrets to keep the couple apart along with reporters galore. As usual with the McCall family in Honor, Texas, the conclusion is an over the top. No one does things half way there so love is declared in a big public way. Gramps is a happy camper every time that happens. I think I would miss it if the McCall stories ended any other way. I know my favorite character, Gramps would.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
Laurie LeClair writes a heartbreaking and uplifting love story. Everything seems impossible in the beginning, then there is a brief moment of hope before a drop into despair. The reader is never sure until the very end if there will be a happy ending for all. I love the writing of Laurie LeClair and the McCall Brothers series is a sure example of pure genius in romance writing. The story of Cassidy and Ryder is a memorable one which will make the reader laugh, cry, and sometimes to do both at the same time. I love The Cowboy’s Christmas Bride as much as I loved all the other wonderful stories in this series. Delane Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More Full Review @ Coffee Time Romance & More
Can love be that simple? Cassidy had no choice but to come back home to rest and hopefully get her voice back again. She just never expected to run into her ex Ryder so soon. Cassidy broke his heart when she left him to live her dream and seeing her brings it all back. But he has more important things to worry about. He needs to finish building his house and keep on trying to be a better Dad to his daughter Molly. Cassidy is shocked to find out that he has a daughter and who he married but then she realizes that she left him and gave him no real reason why? Molly wants a new Mom and her hero is Cassidy so she works her magic and hopes that everything works out. But can Cassidy & Ryder move forward from the past and get a second chance together? A good read I received a copy in exchange for my honest review via Tule.
Cassidy is hiding out in Honor, Texas while she recovers from throat surgery from abuse to her vocal cords in her singing career. What could possibly be worse than that?
Apparently literally running into the ex love of her life, Ryder...apparently finding out he has a precious five year old daughter, Molly...apparently finding out he had married her arch nemesis not long after Cassidy had dumped him so he wouldn't waste his personal dreams on her dreams of stardom... Apparently finding out Molly's mother had died soon after she was born.
Between her gramps and several of the town's match makers, neither Cassidy or Ryder stand a chance. Add Molly's request to Santa for her daddy a Christmas bride so that she can have a Christmas mommy and ... well, let's just say it's looking a lot like a snowy Christmas!
Such a charming story, well thought out and executed about a second chance at love that surprises the characters involved.
Ryder and Cassidy were once deeply in love until she decided to end it all. Cassidy had a budding country music career that she knew would interfere with Ryder's rodeo goal to earn enough money to help his aging foster parents.
When vocal surgery is coupled with a mess from her manager bring Cassidy back to Honor, TX to recuperate and rest, she literally runs into Ryder and the life he now has, six years later. Plus, he has a daughter, Molly, and a deceased wife. All the trauma from the past break up and the emotions remaining haunt both Ryder and Cassidy but Molly has other plans for them.
The Cowboy's Christmas Bride (The McCall Brothers Book 4) by Laurie LeClair This is Cassidy James McCall and Ryder Hadley's story.
Cassidy is going through a lot of difficult situations and is back in town to get away from everything and to have Christmas with her cousins. She is worried about seeing Ryder again since she had pushed him away years ago to pursue her music career. They way they got reacquainted was priceless. It was so funny.
This is a sweet and heartfelt romance. If Molly, Ryder's daughter, have anything to do with it Cassidy and Ryder will get back together. But they have a lot to work through since she hurt him years ago.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
My review will not include a description or plot of the book. I believe it has already been done by the publisher. I have enjoyed the forth book in this Cowboy series by Laurie LeClair. She writes other genres but I believe the Western or Cowboy ones are my favorite. This is a great story of second chances for love and romance. We often return home to something familiar when we have lost our way. That is what Cousin Cassidy does returning home to Gramps and family. I enjoy series because I always want to learn more about the previous characters from the other books in the series. Laurie did not disappoint. All of the brothers (Cassidy's Cousins) make an appearance in this novel. I found this Christmas story to be a fast but exciting read.
I couldn’t get through it. The first big problem was Ryder’s daughter is supposed to be 3 years old but she speaks like a 12 year old. How many 3 year olds would try to find their father a Christmas bride. Or ask to have posters of a Country music star on their door...she’s 3. The conversation between Ryder and Cassidy was weird. She said “Sometimes I wonder Why” and he answers in some innocuous response so that you really have no idea what that conversation was about. Why did she leave, why did she run in to his truck, why did she need throat surgery, why did his wife die.......who knows! I gave up after that. I really wanted to like this book but it was too far fetched.
I loved this story. It's a great second chance story with a rugged cowboy who's a single father and a country music star who is dealing with some tough issues that could put her future in music at risk. Cassidy and Ryder have a history and Ryder knows that he has to be careful or he'll be back under Cassidy's spell and she'll break his heart all over again but his daughter is a big fan so spending time with Cassidy is inevitable. This is a great story as Ryder and Cassidy work through the past while trying to figure out what the future holds. Definitely a recommended read.
Cassidy is recovering from vocal chord surgery and decides to spend Christmas with her cousins while she recuperates. Little did she know she'd also be spending time with her ex, Ryder. Ryder is widowed an wants nothing more than to raise his little girl in the small town as he works to revive his ranch. When Ryder and Cassidy reunite, is it too much to hope for an everlasting love? This is one of those books that sucks you in and gives you all the good-feels, makes you want to live in that small town, and be a part of this family. I really enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend it.
Oh yes, five stars. Years ago they were very much in love but Cassie left to pursue a career in country music. It deals with Cassie's misery at losing her voice, her doubt, anxiety, fear, hope, and her never-ending love for Ryder. Even though Ryder married, had a daughter and his wife died, he was determined to make Molly (daughter) his whole existence. It is an emotional story. Ryder and Cassie fought what they wanted and tried to do the right thing for Molly. Molly had her own ideas as to what was the "right thing to do" and she worked hard to make them happen. I highly recommend.
Kept waiting for her to bust out a good song like Miranda Lambert. But instead the secondary character from previous books who didn't really do anything was a prominent feature. The obstacle was more melodrama than anything else, the noble sacrifice. It would have been better if she was bitter instead of scared and weak. It would have been better if he hated her or felt guilty anything but abbreviated pining. It doesn't feel real when you set your story over days instead of months
The Cowboy's Christmas Bride (The McCall Brothers Book 4)
This book was about a woman after finishing school leaving her home time to follow her dreams and decided to go back after a while and saw the guy she didn't want to hurt to find out he had been married and had a darling little girl who she fell in love with then found out her mother was some one she didn't think he would have ever had anything to do with. You have to get the book to read the beautiful end . Get you copy to day cause it is a great read .
Cassidy came home to Honor, Texas to hide and heal. The first thing she does is literally crash into the love of her life , Ryder. She left him a long time ago so they could both follow their dreams. He achieved his but hers is laying in ruins. With the help of his pint-size, cowgirl princess daughter, Molly, and matchmaking, Gramps McCall, can Ryder heal Cass enough for them to see a future together? This book is filled with tears, laughter, family, friends, and love.
What an achingly sweet second chance romance between Cassidy McCall and Ryder Hadley. And there is an enchanting peek into what a lady Country singer / song writer goes through along the way to becoming a star, and what she sacrifices and gives up,and yet what can still live deep in her heart. Kinda makes you feel you have been let into the most sacred of secrets. This whole series is wonderful reading, and this book is to be recommend.
A nice sweet read. I've decided I like a little more spice in my favorite genre, but this was a good story. My interest wavered when Cassidy didn't seem to like the spotlight even though that was the biggest part of her job. I'm not sure what the purpose of the ex-agent coming to the festival was, and I was hoping there would be a epilogue or something that would show off the studio idea that Ryder had.
