Visions haunt Andrew Stedman's nights and begin to disturb his days. A world he does not know, but somehow recognises, plays out dramatically before his eyes. A desperate girl in a strange land calls to him for help and he feels compelled to assist.
The magic of Papua New Guinea impacts suburban family life in Western Australia in ways that are terrifying, funny, informative and, above all else, compelling. But it is not New Guinea that threatens Andrew's world, it is something much older and from a more dangerous place altogether. What is it that lurks in the fish tank in the garage? What is Andrew’s teacher, Mr Baldwin’s secret?
Be careful what we seek for, as once a pathway is opened, it may not be possible to close it.

HIGHLY IMAGINATIVE AND GRIPPING. Having spent a few of my childhood years in Papua New Guinea, and experienced the sense of magic and mystery there, I was intrigued to read this book. And it did not disappoint. The story pivots around young Andrew Stedman who lives in Australia with his family. Despite the distance, curious and sensitive young Andrew manages to form a psychic connection to an isolated village in Papua New Guinea. Unwittingly, he unlocks an evil spirit and must do all he can to stop it from causing any more harm.
Soulmare is a fun, well written YA adventure story about a boy named Andrew who gets stuck with an unlikable teacher. At the start of the school year, he struggles but discovers his peculiar teacher has fascinating stories about his time in Papua New Guinea. Strange dreams taking him to another world and beast like monsters keep the story fresh and interesting. Another great read from David M Cameron.
