Michael faces a bad day at school where he sees how mean and hurtful some children can be. But things begin to look up when Dolcey makes an appearance. This time she is not exactly a cat, she is a little bigger, a lot grayer and her ears are a lot larger. If you have never met Dolcey, then you are in for a treat. This fairy has a mission to help children that are sad or hurt.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Sojourner McConnell lives in Winchester, Kentucky with one of her daughters and three of her thirteen grandchildren. She has six grandchildren in Alabama and four that live in Michigan. With all those children and grandchildren, she has crafted her storytelling skills. Sojourner's new book is a children's chapter book, Pup in Training and is just now available on Amazon.
Who's That in the Cat Pajamas Book 2 in the Dolcey Series, When a Pachyderm Comes to visit, The Path of the Child, The Power of Forgiveness, and 31 Days of October volume 1 and 2, are also available in paperback and in eBook format on Amazon and other retailers.
Sojourner brings a taste of strong personalities with a healthy dose of southern charm to her characters. .
Dolcey to the rescue again, of another troubled child. Michael's enthusiasm for Career Day at his school was bashed as some of his schoolmates made fun of him and others shrieked in terror. Michal wanted to be a clown. Dolcey hears Michael's anguish and comes in the form of an elephant, or as Dolcey prefers, a pachyderm. Is this a coincidence as this animal exudes strength and leadership? I don't think so. Dolcey shows Michael how he can turn his passion of wanting to be a clown into something truly meaningful and helpful to others. Dolcey and Michael fly off into the night. They come to a building and see nurses and children. Michael meets a girl named Sasha and a very special clown. No more without spoiling the story. I liked the illustrations in this second Dolcey book. I wish they could have been larger. I got the Kindle version. Perhaps they are in the book.
I am enjoying the Dolcey series. I think this book illustrates another good example of how a child can solve a problem by looking at it from a perspective other than their own. The tale is fun and magical, and I loved the unexpected outcome, a nice little surprise at the end of the story!
A delightfully engaging book about never giving up on your dreams...
This is wonderful book for the young reader. It’s an endearing but significant story that communicates important life lessons and teaches children about never giving up on their dreams. I read it with my grandkids and they loved not only the story, but also the illustrations (by Zsa-Zsa Venter). I thought the text and illustrations worked very well together. However, I’m still trying to get used to double tapping on the pictures to enlarge them on certain Kindle formats. Just thought I’d mention that in case anybody else had similar issues with the illustrations.
Author Sojourner McConnell writes in a pleasingly whimsical style that guarantees the attention of young minds. If you ever wanted to bond even more with your children or grandchildren, this would be a lovely read to share with them.
It seems to me that this book was created with a lot of love and joy and it’s obvious that the author really enjoys creating such wonderful stories. Thank you for sharing with us the gift that you have obviously worked so hard to refine. We’ll be looking forward to seeing what’s coming next. Five stars from us. Well done again!
In the second book of this series, wings are spread – literally and figuratively. Yes, once again, Dolcey helps a child in need in a beautiful way that can be appreciated by both children and adults. But the author is also spreading her wings, and I sense that Sojourner has truly grasped who she wants Dolcey to become.
It’s more than just a good book to read to your kids or grandkids at bedtime. It’s a life lesson (or two), something that has the potential to positively affect a child for years to come.
And though the ending of the first book in this series was great, this one touched me even more – with a sweet little twist as a bonus. I’m looking forward to Dolcey #3.
Michael wants to be a clown when he grows up, but the other kids in his class made fun of him on career day (and they were really mean!). He waits for Dad to come home, but after they talk, Michael doesn’t really feel any better. The problem is that the other kids see clowns as old-fashioned and kind of scary. But Michael just wants to make people happy. Enter Dolcey the fairy in the form of an elephant. She visits Michael and helps him realize his dream.
Who doesn’t love elephants? This is a sweet, fun story. It’s well-written and has a good message. My 6-year-old daughter really enjoyed it. I like that it includes discussion questions and vocabulary words.
This is an adorable book about going after your heart's desire, regardless of what others think. And what kid would not want a magical fairy friend? A sweet read.
