Rate this book
This volume makes Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) widely accessible to therapists of different orientations and to therapists in training. It provides clinicians with practical tools, an experiential tour through case examples, and simple guidance to step into EFT. An overview of the change events includes both client processes and therapist interventions moment-to-moment.'In Stepping into Emotionally Focused Couple Key Ingredients of Change, each step and stage of EFT is laid out in a practical and theoretically simple manner that extends beyond what therapists need to do, to helping therapists grasp what experiential therapy is, providing moment-by-moment examples of how to engage clients emotionally, and how to foster emotional engagement between partners.'- From the Foreword by S. Love how this book covers EFT techniques, examples, and theory. I also appreciated how Brubacher uses the model in the context of addiction and individual therapy, showing ways to conceptualize cases through a need for secure attachments. So good!

This definitely reads like a textbook, but I felt it was a pretty good introduction to EFT. I’ll definitely be checking out the video and other online resources because this was often dense and abstract. I found many typos which was annoying.

This is THE book for EFT. I love Sue Johnson, but I don't find her writing very concise or clear. I'm sure she was an amazing in-person trainer, but I really struggle with her writing. This book really distills (pun intended) what is going on in EFT and WHY. If I could go back, I would have started with this book - I'm sure Sue's books have helped me as well, but reading this book brings it all together in a clear way that I'm not sure I would have reached without it - a lot of confusion and overwhelm is gone.
