Kai, formerly a powerful storm dragon, can't seem to stop causing chaos wherever he goes, despite being collared in human form. Now he's been ejected from the company of other dragons and sent out to an island to take a vacation and not come back without a mate. Something that isn't easy to do, given that his awareness of social norms is so low that even his extravagant sexiness can't overcome it. Until he sees his mate, the embodiment of Venus, a goddess so sexy he can't believe she is his. Finally, Kai is willing to make an effort in this world, if it means he can win this exquisite creature.
Renee is used to being overlooked, so she doesn't mind going with her pretty friend on a free vacation after a breakup, even if she knows all the guys will ignore her as if she isn't there. Until the hottest man on the beach suddenly takes an interest in her. Too much interest. Kai is too tall, too blunt, and too aggressive to be her type, but somehow despite his awkwardness and his obsession with water, she can't resist the innocent kindness and strength of spirit she sees inside. Not to mention his hulking muscles and storm-blue eyes.
But as Renee is opening herself to realize she deserves more than she ever hoped for, and Kai realizes life on land is great when he can spend it in sizzling moments with his mate, dark forces are circling. And if the Tourmaline dragon isn't careful, he's going to lose more than a chance at mating. Maybe even his life.
Terry is the author of over forty bestselling shifter romances. She spends her spare time dreaming of dragons, playing with her pets, and watching sunsets from her home in the mountains alongside her husband (who she suspects would make a great bear shifter). She loves the wild outdoors, her fans, all readers, and getting lost in a great book.

I liked this better than the first book. Hero is a grumpy virgin sea dragon who didn’t want a human mate but fell so hard for her. His ideal woman was someone who can swim and it was quite funny that the heroine was someone who really does not know how to swim. I’m looking forward to Marina and Mercury’s book!
So much better than the usual body-image issue trope
Obviously I love Bolryder’s books. In this case, the body image issue that Renee had was so relatable I could have been talking to myself. My biggest peeve was the absolutely ludicrous loyalty Renee had for Liz who treated her like crap. I mean, most people know not to spend so much time with poisonous personalities. Anyway, those being the best and worst of this book, I LOVED Kai. He was so sweet and innocent and stormy and passionate. And I just loved the heck out of him. I loved that Renee was open hearted to him and their relationship just blossomed. I also really appreciated the insight into Marina in this book. I can’t wait for her and Mercury’s story! One last note
I habe read every one off her shifter books, not a bad one in the bunch. They all are different and don't fall in the same wording and scenes as some series do. I liked the Kai' s inexperience showed in this one. I knew there was something about Liz and I didn't even guess it right, which is refreshing. I can't wait for Marina's story, I hope she ends up with mercury.
I knew Kia's story would be different. He just didn't seem very sociable. Although I saw a little emotion when he was left to protect Jenny. I enjoyed seeing how hard he kept trying to win Renee and managing to put his foot in his mouth at every turn. And Renee coming in to her own and putting Liz in her place. Now I want to read about all the babies, Marina and Mercury.
I was happy when I started reading and realized this would be Kai's story. He seemed to be that angry man who seemed to feel that the world owed him something and he was miserable being where he was, on land. But being able to read his journey of finding and falling for his mate was wonderful. You find out that what you thought about Kai was not what was truly going on. He was just a very innocent and awkward guy who felt like a fish out of water, literally! And that this sexy sea dragon was an innocent Virgin! Oh my! It just made the story sweeter to see him struggle with what to do and how to do it. And that little bit of Marina and Mercury thrown in, oh boy! I can't wait for their book!! I hope its next!
Each book has left me happy and looking forward to the next book.
This story takes us away with Kai and Renee , as they find love in paradise. They both will encounter trouble and danger to stay together. I was very excited to find this book was released and got it through KU (Kindle Unlimited). I did purchase both of the dragon bundles so I can read them whenever i want. They are stories you can't resisting reading again and again.
T. Bolryder has done it again. Taken a story to the nth degree. Her imagination makes you wonder if she has met each of her characters or knows them personally. The characters are so real like that you just know them as if they were your friends or family. Someone who can write books that are like that and intermingle with other series are genuine authors that think of their readers and can introduce new ideas to get and keep the readers interested. Ms Bolryder has done this with no problem and that's what makes her so great.
All the dragon books by this author is good. I like the way that she bring the dragons from the other books into the current one. I hope that the third one bring Marine and Mercury together. Except with the first gem book, the double dragons, who are in NY also are not in any of the books, would like to see all make an appears. Ms Bolryder, you write excellent stories, highly recommended.
I LOVE all this author’s books. The Sea dragons/awakened dragons series is one of my favorites. We met Kai, the powerful, fierce and very very cranky and pissed off at the world storm dragon. He just can’t find his place in the modern world and has a lot of trouble adapting. As a result, he gets sent on a “vacation” to Hawaii. There, he meet and finds his mate Renee- a curvy and very unsure of herself woman, who has always been put down by her friends and ex lovers because of her weight. I don’t want to spoil the story, so I won’t say more... but Kai is totally adorable and a little naive in some ways, which makes for a lot of funny scenes!! This was a great book and I loved the little chapter and Mercury and Marina! Can’t wait for their story!!
I love everything that Terry Bolryder writes. It must be hard waking up in a new place and time and not binging use to the people and culture. He proves that anyone can adapt to anything. I also like how he takes a girl who is always run down by everyone and shows her she is beautiful and worth love.
Kai and Renee are a perfectly matched pair. Kai is so out of his element and makes mistake after mistake while wooing Renee. He needs the ocean to calm him but the first time he meets Renee he almost drowns her. The story builds from there. Renee doesn't know how beautiful she is and since Kai is a virgin you can imagine the problems they encounter. Bolryder definitely grabs your attention and you will read this book in one sitting. I loved it.
Kai has been the grumpiest of the recently awakened sea dragon siblings, definitely the most vocal about his restraints and the most annoying prankster imaginable… considering the personalities of the other dragons at the mansion. But eventually enough is enough, and Kai has been sent on a vacation to find his mate… and with don’t come back until you do ringing in his ears he heads for Hawaii and his destiny. Soon one grumbly sea dragon will meet his match in a human woman who has believed the untruths told to her for a lifetime, and desperately needs the love of one particular sea dragon, even if she’s unaware of it just yet.
I actually adored Kai. Sure, he’s gruff but he is also totally honest, always. If he doesn’t mean it he doesn’t say it which often times gets him in trouble. He is adrift on the land, doesn’t understand humans at all and clearly has no idea how to tone down his abruptness in order to win the woman of his dreams to him. Renee might be his mate, but until she knows that, until she believes that she is as beautiful and desirable to him as he claims… then Kai is going to be fighting a battle to get one tiny human to hand over her heart. She already has his but she doesn’t know it.
From the beginning I loathed Liz. No friend treats a true friend as she treats Renee… but then, she was no friend as she later proved. I loved seeing Marina’s struggle to get Mercury to talk to her, and the possibilities that are opened up there for the future. No one messes with Marinas brother and seeing her bond with Renee was truly enjoyable. Gotta love girl power.
While Tourmaline was an enjoyable, steamy, extremely satisfying Shifter Romance, it also opened up questions that I now will be watching for the answers to. To say that I’m anxious to see where we go next is an understatement. And now I’m off to go pick up Aquamarine to find out what happens next. I’d definitely recommend this story, this series and the connecting series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. Hot, steamy, sexy times, interesting secondary characters, always danger and twists in the plot that we rarely see coming. Yeah, my kind of Shifter Romance series.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Kai is a sea dragon who resents being awakened and forced to live on land. Even with the other gem dragon's help, he is till resentful of the demands the oracle put on him. He has power over wind and water so being bored and ignored can lead to great mischief. After too many indoor thunderstorms, the other dragons decide to exile Kai until he gets a mate. So Kai is on the plane for Hawaii along with his list for the perfect mate. His mate to be will be comfortable in the water, understanding of his dragon needs and okay with being left alone for weeks at a time while Kai does his own thing. After a week of being in Hawaii, he is in the bar when he sees her. His mate, Renee. Kai goes up to greet her which is a big surprise especially when he shows no interest with her beautiful and popular best friend. Renee and her friend are visiting Hawaii after her friend won an all expenses vacation. The first night at the bar, a strange, gorgeous hot guy wants to claim her. Renee is the heavy plain girl one used to being over looked so having a hot guy pay her attention instead of her friend is a totally new experience. She faints in shock and later comes to submerged in water after Kai took her to the ocean to cool her off. Renee is in for a big surprise as Kai does his best to win her. Kai is unused to humans and women and is impulsively honest. Many humorous misunderstanding happen as the two adjust to being together. This is a great book! At first, I wasn't sure if I would like Kai with his arrogance and demands but that all changed once he met Renee. I really enjoyed watching Renee learn to love herself and become more self confident. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
I received a review copy from the author but Amazon wasn't quick enough to transfer it to my Kindle, so I borrowed the book on Kindle Unlimited (I really want to thank Terry for continuing to offer her books on KU even though I know that several authors I follow find it restricting and not very profitable for them).
An exciting new dragon and one that has very little contact with humans except to do his job to save them from the sea. Now after awakening and being landlocked, poor Kai misses his sea and uses his ability to create storms to cause havoc among his fellow gemstone dragons. Kai is the most innocent and naive of all the dragons and literally speaks his mind which causes misunderstandings with his newly discovered mate. A new adversary comes to light to add more kinks into Kai's developing relationship with Renee.
Another cameo from my favorite dragon Aegis, some sex advice from Ruby, and a little help from his sister Marina kept me glued to my e-reader.
As usual, I read this in one sitting. If you like sweet lovable dragons that would do anything for their mates and have really cool powers and strong but sometimes damaged mates, I cannot recommend ALL of Terry Bolryder's dragons strongly enough - they are absolutely fantastic, quick, sweet, and a little dirty but always entertaining.
The new developments with Mercury will make for an exciting new book and can't wait to read that one.
Terry’s dragons are some of my favorites. I loved Kai and his story. The sea dragons have been awakened and getting used to living on land has presented many challenges. Kai, middle sibling, and controller of storms, who has been sent away from the mansion to “take a vacation” and find his mate, is now brooding in Hawaii. Renee has joined her girlfriend Liz for a vacation getaway to relax and recharge following a break-up. Renee, who unfortunately is used to “friends” trying to destroy her self-confidence and self-image, is highly surprised when Kai takes an interest in her instead of her pretty friend.
Kai feels a connection to Renee and knows that she’s his mate. But not comfortable interacting with humans, Kai’s not sure how to show Renee how he feels without completely blowing any chance of her accepting him as a mate. (Reference the dragon’s handbook for pure entertainment. 😊)
I adored Kai with his strength, protectiveness, and sexy innocence. Renee is sweet, accepting, and often a little too trusting, but the way she begins to open herself to living and adventure with Kai is exciting and romantic.
I enjoyed Kai and Renee’s HEA, and look forward to what the sea dragons face next.
Recommended!
*ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review.
A cranky pregnant dragon's mate and testy sea dragon who only wants to go back to live in the ocean do not work. Unable to deal any longer, the other dragons send a naive Kai to an island to find his mate and they won't allow him back until he does. So all he has to do is find his beautiful water baby human female. Renee is with her beautiful, condescending friend. She's in Hawaii recovering from a breakup. But an island? She doesn't like the ocean, well water at all. She can't swim and has no interest in learning how. What a great pair, right? Not so much. After coming to her rescue Kai knows she is his mate. Now all he has to do is convince her. Oh, yeah, and teach her to swim. Kai is so naive as to the human world and being with a human female. He is adorable. At least when his power to create storms is under control. But there is some evil afoot. His main task is protecting his mate and making her happy. Can he do it with the danger coming? I love this new Sea Dragons series. Of course, I love everything Ms. Bolryder writes. While each book stands alone, you will enjoy the other book in this series and the previous series as well.
3.5 Stars - I was going to give this four stars back there were grammatical errors and errors of names such as referring to Renée as Liz . Renée and Kai' story kept a good pace throughout. Kai never thought he would be able to find his mate, but he was made to realize by all of the other dragons that this was now his life and he needed to find his mate. Therefore he sets out to find her at a beach resort.
Renee gets invited to a free vacation by her friend Liz who is just a gorgeous woman and Renée feels a little self conscience. She's there to forget about her ex boyfriend and try to take charge of her life. To her surprise, one day at the beach resort, a hot and handsome man stares at her instead of her gorgeous friend. She was truly shocked when he flat-out said he was interested in her and not her friend. And then all heck breaks out and their wild ride of a relationship begins.
This is book two in the awake and see Dragon series. As I said before, I was just disappointed with the types of errors that were made and no one picked them up. Hopefully the third story will be better.
Kai is a newly awakened sea Dragon and just wants to go back to the ocean and be a warrior Dragon like in his previous life. He takes his ill humor out on all the others staying at the mansion. The Oracle has collared him as he's too wild and violent. She wants him to find a mate and help with the fight against the evil. The other dragons know he wants the sea so they send him to Hawaii to find his mate, hopefully. Renee and her friend Liz are vacationing on the island and Kai sees Renee and starts for her immediately. Liz believes she is more beautiful than Renee and has always put Renee down about being fat. Both women are astonished when Kai asks Renee if he can buy her a drink and totally tells Liz to shut up! LOL! The book really picks up action from there and has several twists and turns in the plot. We see Seaton and Jenny again briefly, but it's Marina who surprises with some of her actions. My one complaint is I wish it was longer and a bit more detailed like the earlier Dragon books. That's just a personal opinion though.
Banished from the "dragon" mansion until he finds his mate, Kai heads to Hawaii. Kai is the sea dragon of storms and has certain expectations of his mate. She should be beautiful and a strong swimmer who loves the water as much as he does. One out of the three isn't bad- right? Hello Venus! After a life time of name calling and put downs, Renee doesn't believe someone like Kai could be interested in her or think she's beautiful. As for loving the ocean, not happening. Renee can't swim and is scared of the ocean. While Kai, with help from the rest of the dragons, works on winning his mate, a threat to all dragons is closer than they realize. Love this series and all of Ms. Bolryder's dragons. I can't wait to see what happens next.
*I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book as well as purchasing a copy which I am voluntarily reviewing*
Kai is a Sea Dragon awakened from a centuries long slumber to help save humanity. But he has to prove he's up to the challenge, and he's pretty grumpy about it. With his powers to control the sea and weather restricted by the powerful Oracle, he's sent off to find his mate in the hope she can civilized him. In his search Kai starts to realize his antisocial and rude behavior is uncalled for, especially when he finds his mate, Renee, at the Hawaiian resort where he's been sent. Renee is an accomplished young woman. But she's a big girl and her "friends" have undercut her self esteem with negative comments for years. So when tall, handsome and mysterious Kai sets his sights on her she's sure she's being punked. Kai stumbles along with his courtship, relying on his own blunt yet innocent nature, and advice from other dragons, to win Renee over. He has to keep saving her from aggressive males, so-called friends and her own insecurities. The tables are turned on Kai and Renee and his sister Marina must jump into the fray. His transformation from angry, belligerent, resistant Dragon to protective, courageous mate is impressive. Renee's realization of her worth is clearly strengthened by Kai's loyalty, support & love. I loved Kai's naivete coupled with his brute strength. Terrific!
This is the second book in the Sea Dragon series. This is Kai's the tourmaline dragon and God of Storms. He is being sent on a vacation to find a mate. He meets Renee who has come with her friend Liz who won an all expense paid trip to Hawaii. Renee is not looking to find romance after the break-up with her boyfriend. When Renee and Liz are at the bar Kai stares at Renee. OMG! He wants me over Liz. Their meeting does not go well. Renee faints and Kai takes her into the ocean to revive her, where she almost drowns. With Renee's hang-up about her weight will she believe her wants her? What is the reason Liz wants him so badly? Come find out. I give this story 5 stars. "I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy without pressure to do so".
I loved Kai's story! He's so tough yet innocent in his ways. He made for an endearing sea dragon and I loved his mate! I was really looking forward to his first time being with Renee since he was a virgin which was adorable...I kinda wished it talked a little more about what that was like for him but all in all, it was very sweet. What really got me though was the little tidbit of a story with Mercury!! I really can't wait for his and hopefully Marina's story next!! I loved seeing a nicer side to him...still a little arrogant and a little mean but that's just his inner demons talking...(and I love me a bad boy like Aegis!) so yeah really looking forward to his story!!! A++ read!!
I have been totally enjoying all of Terry Bolryder's dragon series. Kai is a great multifaceted character. I loved watching him try tho win his mate Renee. They are great together. The action comes more near the end of the story, but you find out all is not as it had seemed to be. The whole story is not technically a cliffhanger, but we are left waiting to see what will happen next. I can't wait! There were plenty of steamy scenes, along with great characters, some pretty funny situations, some problems, action and of course dragons.
This is as well rounded story. Enjoy, but read them in order: Double Dragons, Tiger Protectors, Awakened Dragons, Rent a Dragon, Date a Dragon and finally these Awakened Sea Dragons.
Kai was collared to help control him from his behavior also until he found his mate. In his mind Kai thought that his mate would love to swim either in the ocean or just love to swim in general but what he found was that his mate Renee who was always overshadowed by her alpha wolf "friend" Liz who had a devious plan for the "vacation" she begged Renee to go on with her. I love that the other Gemstone Dragons each wrote helpful tips on what actions to take when Kai met his mate. I was glad when Marina had those premonitions about something bad happening to Kai because is she didn't nobody would've known probably until it was too late. I can't wait to see what happens between Mercury and Marina.
I am loving this series! Kai is trying to adjust to being in this strange modern world, but things are just not going well. Forced on a vacation to find his mate, this awakened sea dragon cannot seem to stop causing mischief and chaos. Renee is not used to men looking at her twice, so when sexy as sin Kai looks her way and stays focused on her, it throws her for a loop. As the two of them spend more time together they come to realize that maybe they have a chance at real love.
Great book! Terry Bolryder's dragons never fail to charm me, and the Tourmaline dragon, Kai, is no exception. He's a sea dragon, clueless about life on land and how to win his human mate, and he's sweetly awkward as he woos the spunky Renee. Renee is a plus-size beauty with a fear of water and the bad habit of letting others put her down. It's a pleasure to see her character gain confidence and strength as her relationship with Kai progresses. They make a cute couple, and a fearsome team for fighting evil.
