I was born and raised in the rural Midwest, surrounded by miles of cornfields. After graduating high-school, I enlisted in the United States Air Force, then rode a desk for four years before transferring to an elite Special Tactics unit. In that unit, I was privileged to work with Special Operations Forces personnel from the Army, Navy, and Marines. My training took me to exotic locations around the world, and I completed two combat deployments in Afghanistan. After my second term of enlistment, I separated from the Air Force to spend more time with my family and go to college. While grinding through math, science, and academic writing classes, I resumed one of my favorite past times—storytelling. Now, I write fiction full-time. Through writing, I share the tragedy, comradery, pain, and redemption I've seen throughout life. I hope to spark awareness and change through my novels, and I give a large portion of my proceeds to charitable organizations that fight human trafficking around the world.
Wrath by JJ Carlson is a prequel short story. It is sometimes hard to rate a short story if it is too short. This story basically introduces the main character and his temperament, his feelings, and why. If that is the purpose of this short story then it did the job well. I picked up book one. I am interested enough to see where this goes.
This book was not at all what I expected. The plotline sounded decently interesting, as the first book in a series. However, it was more of a very short novella than a full novel - if you can call 31 pages on a tablet a "novelka". In reality, this was nothing more than a short chapter (in my opinion) full of gunfire. Thank goodness it was free! It ended, if you wish to call it an ending, with two events - Jarrod Hawkins getting put to sleep with morphine and back in the US, a dr gaining government funding to develop a human killing machine ... which from reviews of the next book in this series, is to be Jarrod Hawkins. While I enjoy a good action novel, a 'sci-fi techo-robot' action book is not for me. Done with this series & most likely the author as well.
