From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Josie Litton Welcome to the Odalisque, the world’s most exclusive club intime. Kindly leave your inhibitions at the door (clothing is optional). If this is your first visit, a few words of explanation may be in order. The tall, lithely muscular and all-around stunningly handsome man lounging at the bar is the club’s founder and owner, Lucius Belmont. “Luscious Lucius” some call him. Others are more inclined to mutter about his resemblance to Lucifer. A word to the wise, enjoy your visit but do nothing to vex him. Especially not now. Lucius is pre-occupied with a problem unlike any he has encountered before. That rarest of creatures--a virgin--has wandered into his circle of debauchery. Natalia Bollinger is everything she should not be--exquisitely beautiful, unbearably arousing, and uncannily able to penetrate all his hard-won defenses. But Natalia is guarding secrets of her own that will pit her against Lucius in an epic showdown of vice versus virtue. Before your visit is over, limits will be tested, lines will be crossed, and all the rules will be broken. Take a seat. The show is about to begin! Although inspired by my earlier work, “His Lordship’s Downfall”, also available on Amazon, “Tales of the Odalisque” is a standalone novel with no cliffhanger. You need not have read “His Lordship’s Downfall” to enjoy this story but of course, I hope that you will do so. Please be aware that while this story is M/F, monogamous and HEA, it contains intimate scenes that some may find disturbing. Read at your own discretion.
Josie Litton is the author of several NY Times and USA Today bestselling romances.
Married and living in Connecticut, she is the parent of two grown children. Becoming an empty nester has left her plenty of time to write, think about writing, plan what to write next, and read. When she isn’t doing that, she’s cooking, gardening, and traveling.
Natalia is accepted into an establishment that prepares virgins for the auction block. When ready, they are then sold at the Odalisque, owned by Lucius Belmont. From the moment she enters the corridors of the abbey she reminds herself this is all a ruse and it will be over soon. She must get the information she needs and she will quietly disappear.
Lucius is not fooled. Her background is too perfect. Her excuse for offering herself up as well as her reactions to her punishment when caught breaking the rules do not add up. Lucius is a keeper of secrets and must learn her true goal so he can protect his business, his country and possibly his life.
This couple have chemistry that’s off the charts! For the first quarter of the book they don’t even speak to each other, yet simply being across the room from one another was almost enough to set my Kindle on fire. When they do begin to converse it’s an erotic game of cat and mouse. Despite some of the darker sexual elements inherent in their relationship, I loved them and the fragility of what they had.
I was confused during the first part of this story. Some of the terms were unfamiliar to me and the writing, while beautiful, seemed to be that used for a historical romance than contemporary. However, I either quickly grew used to it or the style changed because I was soon caught up in the drama, passion and lust that wove itself into the words.
The ending was very fast and could have been developed a bit more adding more legitimacy to their declarations and an epilogue would’ve been awesome. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, my first by this author.
This is an honest review of an advanced copy I requested from the author.
Dual POV Safe – hero has been celibate for a year Possible Triggers – virgin auction, BDSM – everything consensual
An extravagantly ridiculous premise, an oddly seductive story Since all naughty book multi-billionaires are ruggedly handsome, at lest slightly dom and have time to lavish on other than their sources of income, author Josie Litton presents “Luscious Lucius” Belmont owner, operator of a virgins for sale night club the Odalisque and when he has time he makes himself important to King and Country. Ready to sacrifice anything is the spy in his midst, the powerful and clever warrior woman, also over the top gorgeous Natalia Bollinger. Warrior Woman is ready to sacrifice anything to learn the whereabouts of her lost sister. Coincidentally Natalia is at least slightly sub and wonder of wonders a virgin. Dare we suggest, a sacrificial virgin?
Not sure how many of the stars have to align before you accept the sight of a warrior woman being put through a series of what would be humiliations and abuse, except that: 1 She can quit at any time and 2 She likes them. Lest this be a book about sex trafficking, all of the virgins who are to be sold are also volunteers and can leave at any time. I guess there are to be considered as the kinds of women who choose to seek out sugar daddies, only at a much more lucrative level.
As naughty books go Tales of the Odalisque is more suggestive than explicit. Litton can bring on the heat, but only on occasion and never for very long. What struck me was not so much the titillation factor but the fact that the book has an actual plot and remains true to it. Luscious and Natalia are drawn to each other, a physical attraction initially but one that will be reinforced by something akin to mutual respect and common traits. We never get anything like a romance novel, but neither do we have to gaze at the fireworks in the night sky as the train rushes through the tunnel.
There is reason to believe that this is book one in a series, but the added in selection of the author’s next book was to my taste, repellent.

Natalia hasn’t heard from her half-sister, Naomi, in over six months. After searching for her through every outlet she can think of, she decides her only option is to go to the last place Naomi mentioned wanting to get a job at: the Odalisque. But not just anyone gets access to the Odalisque, so Natalia does what’s necessary by joining the Abbey of the Virgins, a school where virgins are educated on how to satisfy a man before auctioning off their virginity. She doesn’t care about any of that though, what she needs is info only Lucius Belmont, the owner, has and she luckily has the skills to get it.
The story is a unique fusion of Victorian England and modern day making it really stand out. Litton’s beautiful prose seems effortless, although it sometimes drifts into excessively long, detailed descriptions that just barely crosses the line into unnecessary.
Lucius is *sigh* perfect. Even at his worst, he’s dreamy and giving. Natalia is stubborn to a fault, but it’s understandable. I just wish I got to see more of her after she finally lets her walls down, but the story sadly ends soon after. Their attraction is ‘don’t stare at the sun too long or you’ll go blind’ intense. It’s overwhelming, but in the best way. The sex isn’t what I would call dark and there’s not much of it, however there is an awful lot of thinking and learning about sex, but actual scenes between the H/h are few.
The conclusion is what kept me from giving the story 5 stars. *Mild Spoiler* Natalia finally tells Lucius about her illicit past and what she’s been searching for. He leaves, comes back sometime later and tells her ‘this is this, and that is that’ so no need to keep looking, problem solved. Oh, btw let’s spend forever together. The end. It was simply too fast and felt incomplete. Despite that, the book is still definitely worth the read.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I think this is the book I'd recommend if you wanted to start reading Josie Litton's work. Tales of the Odalisque is a sensual, sumptuous, richly thrilling novella that is perfect to read in one or two sittings. If you're in the mood for something a little sexy, a little taboo, and a little mysterious, then I suggest you give this erotic tale a read.
Having read His Lordship's Downfall, parts 1 and 2, I can say that this isn't QUITE as scandalous. If you finished those works and are dying for more naughty tales, I don't think Tales will satisfy that. All things considered, I found it tame compared to Adrian's story of wicked debauchery. BUT. That being said, I thought it was fabulous. I loved both main characters. I want to see so much more of them, with Lucius teaching and dominating and being the sexy bad boy that he is. I could definitely read more from this universe, and I'm thrilled at that my opinion isn't in the minority, and Ms. Litton will be expanding the universe in the future.
You are reading about all kind if s3x without the feeling you are reading p0rn This book is what is classed erotic romance and most of those stories are over the top p0rn. In this novel also everything is done but it has a good story as well and both people are very likeable.
A young woman tries to locate her wild sister who disappeared. To do so she traces her to a wicked club owner.
A tale that is steamy but somewhat naughty read and with a mystery thrown in for good measure. Having to read a couple of Josie's read I can say this is tamer than her usual in your face romance book. But none the less you will love it. Natalie wants to find her sister and the only way to do so is going undercover into the Odalispue. But what happens when she discovers her match made in heaven. In the arms of of the delish but sexy Lucius? Will she find all that she wants or will she find more?
The only thing I would like to gripe about is that this book is way too short. Everything else? Perfect. But I do miss Josie Litton's Vikings series and that genre and time period. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying her comeback isn't great, in fact, it's amazing but I do hope she returns to write something similar to the Vikings series too.
Anyway, back to this wonderful book! We got a chance to see the return of Lord Adrian (from Litton's His Lordship's Downfall) in this book and it was just meltingly good to see how sweet he is to Jane. But the focus is Luscious Lucius, and oh boy, he is that.
It was him! It had to be. The man who stepped from the shadows along the wall to witness her humiliation could be none other than Lucius Belmont. Over six feet tall, broad shouldered, lithely muscular, he looked like the devil himself. Not the caricature but the real deal, Lucifer Morning Star, the brightest star in the heavens whose compelling beauty and ruthless ambitions led him to an eternity of darkness. She had always assumed that the story was allegorical and also deeply unfair. Now she had to reconsider. He was real, he was there and he was looking directly at her. No, more than that. Into her, to the deepest reaches of her soul and the most secret yearnings of the carnal nature she had always struggled to deny. She had searched in vain for photos of Lucius Belmont on line but he was a man who clearly valued privacy and had the means to protect it. Even so there should have been some warning. Naomi had gone on about him but Natalia had never imagined…
I adore how hard and fast Lucius fell for Natalia and how he tried to wheedle the truth of her. They are a perfect match.
His big, hard body brushed against her. A powerful arm wrapped around her waist. He smiled down at her. “The seventy-two hours will be up soon,” he said. She nodded. “You’ll be keeping your money. I never wanted it.” “I know that. Even so, I’d like to offer you an extended arrangement.” Her breath caught. She felt the sun shining down on the ancient city, warm on her back and shoulders. It was no match for his own heat calling to her. “How extended?” she murmured. He lowered his head, his lips brushing hers. She raised up on her toes and took his mouth, drinking in the taste of him. Fire raced through her blood, banishing fear, erasing loneliness. She could have stayed in that moment forever save for the future that beckoned just beyond it.
Tales of the Odalisque is a steamy, entertaining, timeless sort of story. Although apparently set in the present, there are references that make this seem much like historical erotica. I like the contrast between it being set in the present, with things like technology and computer hacking, and the references to times of old like the costumes (snood).
Natalia is looking for her half sister. Her search for her has led her to the Abbey, a place where women's virginities are auctioned off. Natalia is a virgin, surprisingly considering her otherwise seemingly very much worldly childhood and present occupation, and knows if she has any chance of finding her sister, she'll need to get into the Abbey and auction herself off. It's here she meets Lucius Belmont, the owner and director of the Odalisque, the club where the Abbey offers up its virgins for auction. Little does Natalia realize that soon she'll catch Luscious' (one of Lucius' nicknames) attention, and that he'll be the one "training" her for auction.
But, Lucius isn't just after Natalia's delectable body and the innocence he seems to crave. No, he wants to know the real reason she's at the Abbey. He knows she's hiding something, and he is determined to figure out what her secrets are, even if he has to torture her body with pleasure to get those secrets out of her. But will Natalia cave and allow Lucius to gain access to her heart and mind? Or will she only give up her body in order to get what she ultimately wants - to find her sister?
Although Tales of the Odalisque is a spin-off of His Lordship's Downfall, you don't need to have read it (although I recommend you do, because it's a delicious tale) to understand Lucius and Natalia's story. I liked seeing Adrian again, though, and the mentions of Jane. It's good to know how well they're doing.
Natalia and Lucius make an erotic, sexy, interesting duo, and I'd absolutely love to read more about them. There's a sort of HFN ending, and I really want an HEA, so more would be much appreciated.
I received an Advance Reader Copy for Tales of the Odalisque written by Josie Litton and voluntarily reviewed this book. “Lucious Lucius” Belmont is the owner of the world’s most exclusive sex club, the Odalisque. He is powerfully connected, rich, handsome as the Devil, and he has anything he could ever desire right at his fingertips. But his libido has not been charged for the last six months. Until a certain street waif, Natalia Bollinger, presents at the Abbey of the Virgins for her intake interview to participate in his underground virgin auctions…and immediately takes up a presence in his brain that Lucius cannot seem to shake. But she has been observed to be surprisingly much more than the innocent virgin she is proven to be, and suddenly the reason for her appearance in his business takes on a more jeapordous slant. It is up to Lucius to uncover her intent, putting many hours of “personal teaching” and calling upon his connections to discern her purpose, and he discovers he is fascinated, unabashedly taking great pleasure in doing so. He has until her preparatory period has ended, and then she will either be put to auction or be dealt with by the authorities he has alerted. What will he do if he doesn’t uncover any answers, because now he finds himself completely enchanted by this sexual creature he has been molding with his own hands.
This is the first story I have read by this author, and I was drawn in from the first chapter. I enjoyed the well-defined characters, the stylish setting and “props” and the enigma of Natalia. It was a wicked and rigorous grooming of virgins in the skills of debauchery by a man whose sole business was to educate them before they were auctioned, but he ended up being felled by finding a woman of pure heart, passion and unparalleled beauty, allure, and skills. I am absolutely looking forward to reading more of this author’s stories, especially Adrian’s story, which we got a tasty preview of at the end of this book.
Having read His Lordship's Downfall, I thought I knew what to expect but I was wrong. Lucius was like Adrian yet different. They are both rich arrogant men who are used to getting what they want but Lucius is more in touch with his emotions and less deviant. Natalia is nothing like Jane, although they both pretend to be demure and innocent. The cat and mouse of Lucius and Natalia is so fun. If he had been a lesser man she might have conned him entirely. I was surprised it took him so long to figure out she wasn't there for the auction. It seemed obvious to me from the get go she had other plans, even if they weren't told to us immediately. It was also obvious that he was going to take her for his own. They felt right together, for me anyways, from the beginning. I was in love with Lucius from the first time we meet him. I know he's supposedly bad or the Devil but I like bad men. Natalia made me mad with her impulsiveness. She worked so hard to get there and then was so eager to ruin it all. The whole idea of a virgin auction infuriates me but I'm sure it's a thing somewhere. The idea that women would sell their virginity for cash is gross and really shows how little those women feel about themselves. I have no doubt that men with enough money find that exciting. I just couldn't see myself doing that when I was young. Once he got her alone and started teaching/teasing her their attraction really bloomed, but I wasn't happy for that. I wanted her to fight the temptation more than she did. The sex scenes were worth putting that aside though. Mrs. Litton knows how to make even the most taboo scene sensual and sexy. I wasn't as turned on by Odalisque as I was His Lordship but the need was still there. Lucius was more attuned to Natalia's needs than Adrian was to Jane's. I would read more tales from the sex club should she choose to write them. I would like a follow up on both Lucius and Adrian and their women.
This is an extremely sensual story. Nevertheless, what transpires between Natalia and Lucius is well-written and tasteful, in no way detracting from the intrigue and enjoyment of the book. As the story progresses, Natalia and Lucius pit their wits against each other, culminating in a quite unusual conclusion. This book encompasses a storyline that is beguiling and I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending it.
Natalia has only one thought in mind and that is to find her half-sister, her only clue being Lucius and the Odalisque. Natalia has many skills and her line of work requires her to slip in and out of many roles. Natalia’s father had crafted an impeccable history for her from the moment of her birth to keep her safe; but as a virgin she is clueless. Natalia manages to get herself accepted into the Abbey where she will be trained until the time of the next auction. Natalia has no intention of being auctioned; she just needs access to the Odalisque so she can find out any relevant information about where her half-sister might be or what has happened to her. The moment Lucius sees Natalia he is besotted with her and her beauty, but he knows she is not who she says she is and is hiding something; he is determined to find out what this is, even so far as training Natalia himself. Natalia is strong and resists Lucius’ temptations, but how long can she keep this up before the truth is drawn out of her? The day of the auction draws nearer and Natalia is despondent; she still doesn’t have the information she is looking for. Suddenly everything changes and Natalia finds herself trapped; she has been bought by a private buyer and escape is impossible. All that remains now is for Natalia to tell the truth, but if she does, what will this mean and how will she move forward? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
I voluntarily read an arc of this book for a fair and honest review. I have to hide my moral compass when I read Ms. Litton’s books. In real life the subject matter appalls me, but in my reading chair my conscience just goes out the window. I was incredibly happy to get this arc because I lost every single arc this author has sent me previously when I rebooted my kindle. This book is wonderful because it is timeless. Until I read the reference to limonchello this book could have taken place in any time period. Natalia Bollinger has gone to the Abbey on a reconnaissance mission, she plans to find her sister, get in and get out. But plans change. When Natalia catches a glimpse in the shadows of a man, she wondered if it was the seldom seen Lucius Belmont. There was very little information on this man but his name was legendary. Lucius was quite taken aback by his reaction to Natalia. Whatever this reaction was, it was disturbing and unwanted by him. All Natalia wanted to do was find her sister and she knew her sister planned to go to The Abbey to learn the ways of an odalisque so she may be sold at auction. Natalia was left with more questions than answers after speaking to the other postulants. Was Natalia the one who had it all wrong? As always Josie Litton devises and erotic web that a reader must make their way through. I am a lucky woman, getting this arc was a highlight of my week.
Overall: Tales of the Odalisque was a shockingly hot tale of seduction, power, and intrigue. I loved it! It got my blood throbbing!
Characters: The characters were believable and very original. Natalia was especially multidimensional as she grew and changed from an innocent girl to a sensual and sexual woman. I liked the interesting contrast between Natalia's lightness and purity to Lucius' darkness and depravity.
Plot: There was a little bit of mystery, some suspense, and an orgasmic ending! I liked the way that the author developed her ideas. There weren't any villains in this book; there wasn't a need for them. The plot was driven by a great pace from scene to scene and a powerful theme of decadence and opulence.
Writing: This is my first book from Josie Litton but I can tell that she is a talented writer. There's lots of lively action. She has a delightful way of describing her characters, clothing, settings, imagery, and actions. Her words came to life for me!
Recommendation: This is a book that I can highly recommend especially if you like your main characters strong, passionate, and very wicked (in a good way!) You'll love it!
Knowing the rich and procacious imagination of this author, I should've have been prepared for the salacious, naughty and inventive sensuality displayed in this novel. Alas, I was still surprised. And I managed to blush a bit, too.
A mix of bodouir exhibitionism, red alcobe instruction and mysterious espionage, The Odalisque is both fun and well devised. The narrative is rich and elegant while telling about virgin auctions, clandestine plans, notorious rakes and smart yet inexperienced ladies who risk body and soul on a covert mission that will open up new worlds of carnal bliss.
I loved the writing, the cat and mouse game between the main characters and some of the pleasures depicted. Also, the club where the women are taught in order to prepare for the auction is quite enticing. I also enjoyed the dialogues and the most anticipated ending. On the other hand, I'd have preferred a longer and more intense final joining of the couple after so many sensual tortures that preceded the big act. Nevertheless, it's a gorgeous and sophisticated story for the most daring palate.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this!!! I've read Litton's "His Lordship's Downfall", and The Tales of Odalisque occurs not much further down the timeline of that. You do not have to read His Lordship's in order to read this one but it's a great series so you should. I have to say that one of my most favorite aspects of Litton's writing in this series is that you cannot tell what era her books take place in. Her writing style makes it sound like it's in a more Victorian era but then there is mentioned of internet and cars and trucks and such. With the contraptions and devices she amazing thinks up you think it's more futuristic but without space travel or hover cars it cannot be that futuristic. Maybe it's just a crazy awesome world she has thought up.... Anyway, I loved Natalia and how deceptive her appearance is. You think she's just a young naive, innocent woman but she can take down a man in a heartbeat. Lucius is described as the devil but he ends up being so sweet and loving to Natalia. I look forward to reading more in this series! What will Litton do next?!!
I read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I'd never read anything by Josie Litton before and I'm quite pleased with having now put her on my to-do list. Writing a review for this book is one of the easiest things I've ever done. This book is the second of a series, I believe and whileit is a standalone, from what I can tell, the club and characters in the book are mentioned in the first book also. So now I'm thinking I'll have to check them out. The story is dark, but not too dark. Sexy, but not smutty. I would recommend it for anyone who likes an all-round interesting romance with a helping of erotica thrown in. It has humor, sex, steam, mystery. A little bit of everything and the author knows how to spin a tale around those quite nicely. She's done her homework and I would definitely recommend Ms. Litton and will put her on my "to do" list from now on.
How can a book turn you on? Well this one will. Natalia is looking for her half sister who she has not heard from in six months. They normally keep in touch every several weeks. The last time they spoke her sister mentioned about applying for a job at the Odalisque. Natalia exhausted all her leads except one, Odalisque. I loved the fact of the loyalty Natalia held for her sister and for her father. Sad history as it was. But Natalia was brave and applied to the Odalisque and was accepted. Her interactions with the owner Lucius was different. He knew she was after something but what it was he did not know. This is an erotic and highly sexual book. The relationship between Lucius and Natalia was without a doubt different. But it ended in an HEA for everyone. It kept my interest from page one and I stayed up way to late in the night to finish it. I highly recommend this book. I voluntarily received an Advanced Readers Copy for review.
A Review of Tales Of The Odalisque by Josie Litton
Natalia and Lucius - 4.5 stars
I have to say, I was completely fascinated by the gorgeous violet eyes on the cover of this book and the way that Ms. Litton describes them in the story. I was so drawn into the telling of this story that I read it all in one sitting, with a good portion of it sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what was going to happen next. I absolutely LOVED the way the "Classes" were taught at the Abbey and we all know that practice makes perfect! And let's talk about chemistry! The chemistry between Natalia and Luscious Lucius was off the chart. Definitely well worth the time and money to pick up this baby! And the fact that there is no cliffhanger is a major win in my book.
**Honest review voluntarily provided from a Complimentary Copy**
Fascinating!! This is the first book I’m reading by this author. I really enjoyed this book. It had a well thought out plot with interesting characters. Her excellent attention to detail created some amazing imagery in my minds eye bringing Club Odalisque and it’s patrons escapades to life. There are many hot and steamy moments. There are also some disturbing but erotic moments. I found them all enjoyable. What held this back from being a 5* Review is that once the auction takes place and the 2 of them are finally “together”, everything just seems to speed up too much and in my opinion ends rather abruptly. Spreading out their time together and the search for her sister, etc over a few more chapters would have made it feel more complete to me. Overall, I did really enjoy this and would recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I may have to ban Josie's book's from my house because they are so deliciously naughty that once I start I can't put them down and sleep becomes impossible until I have finished, having previously read and loved His Lordship's Downfall I am pleased to say this book didn't disappoint. Natalia goes undercover at the odalisque to find her sister but instead gets more than she bargained for when she meets the devilishly sexy Lucius. Drawn to each other with a chemistry that is sizzling neither one ends up being who they thought they were. Josie has delivered another brilliantly written book with great character development and I look forward to reading more from Josie in the future. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and chose to leave a review.
A Delicious and Delightful Game of Cat and Mouse!!
Natalia is searching for her sister Naomi – now lost for 6 months. Her sisters’ last communication concerned the Odalisque and Lucius Belmont…so now Natalia is entering to search for clues.
Ironically Lucius knows Natalia has been scoping out his business. He allows her to enter to keep a closer eye on her and get her to reveal her secrets. As the purpose is to train virgins to prepare for auction; there are many opportunities to test not only her determination, but her claims of innocence.
As each tests the other a relationship grows which is sensual, scintillating and highly entertaining!! I highly recommend this brilliant read!!

I originally got a copy of this as an ARC. I was so excited about this book that I waited til release day to read. I wanted it fresh cause I just knew I would love it. I was right this book was fabulous. Lucien and Natalie were incredible. I swear I could touch their flames. Ms. Litton's words wrapped around me like a cuddly blanket. I didn't stop reading til the last word. Lucien was a naughty boy. He knew Natalie was up to something. So he became her model. Wow oh wow did the heat and flames kick up. She put up a good fuss but their chemistry won out. I enjoyed Adrian showing up in this book. I hope there is MORE to come. I loved it.
Fantastic Read! Natalia, searching for her 1/2 sister at a high end sex club, finds a lot more than what she's looking for. Lucius, who has been celibate for the past year is the owner/ founder of Odalisque, finds himself beyond intrigued with Natalia. She's a mystery he needs to solve. One aspect that truly intrigued me was how Lucius viewed himself. Upon viewing his actions throughout the story, I did not see him that way at all. This book had a more romantic tone than I'd expected. It was refreshing that Lucius was not the typical Dom, although he saw himself that way. Some super sexy, light bdsm scenes in Litton's trademark style, never fail to excite and entice. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Natalie Bollinger’s exuberant half-sister is missing. Natalie’s only lead to Naomi’s disappearance is their last conversation, in which Naomi raves excitedly about Lucius Belmont, the owner of an infamous and renowned sex club, The Odalisque. “Luscious Lucius” he is nicknamed. As one of Natalie’s new comrades later chirps: “He should be caged up somewhere and saved for the delectation of appreciative females.”
Hmm. What an interesting choice of words, you say? Get used to it. Formal and pretentious dialogue is the norm for all the characters in this book. The style, coupled with unfamiliar vocabulary like “spotted dick”, “bubbles and squeak”, and “coddled egg” (all are FOOD items -shame on you!) had me off balance for much of this read. I was often confused that Natalie was caught in 19th century England, as she makes her way undercover into the Abbey of the Virgins to be trained for auction at the Odalisque. But no, the young women receiving tutelage at the Abbey are “garbed in ankle-length, high-necked white robes designed by Elie Saab”, which should at least place them in the late 20th century. They just happen to be virgins who like using very big words.
If you can overlook the use of anachronistic language in modern times, the titillation can be very entertaining. I should say that I’m satisfied that things ended happily, but it all happened so fast. I think the HEA is implied!
This is a stand-alone with HEA, does have cross characters and takes place in a club that was also in a previous book. Even though the story takes place in and around a sex club this story contains very little actual sex. Not insta-love but character and story development. Natalia undercover trying to locate her sister that disappeared 6 months ago. Lucius immediately knows she is not whom she is pretending to be. They are drawn to each other but are both wary of each other as well. Their relationship develops over spending time together and then trusting in the other. This book is a sensual steamy and suspenseful as well. I enjoyed it very much. ARC review.
I loved this modern day Cinderella story. That's how I thought of it. It a story of this lovely young woman Natalia is trying to find the last known family member but is lead to the darker side of life as it were. It hopes of finding her she secretly falls for whom she thinks is the bad guy. The owner and very handsome and quite rich Lucius. Things start off rocky but by the end of this tales we see nothing but love and happiness. It was an honor to be able to read this sexy and sensual book and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series, if there is more. Excellent read! 5 stars absolutely. I voluntarily reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy ( ARC ).
A little dark, a little steam, and a whole lot of intrigue are woven together in this unusual love story. Lucius is so sexy and commanding, and his attraction to Natalia is palpable. She starts off determined to find her sister (or at least what happened with her) but soon she finds herself falling under his spell. Despite finding the ending a bit abrupt, the story was a great read and the characters are very memorable. The writing is instantly captivating, intense in some parts and humorous in others. I'm definitely interested in reading more from this author. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I was very intrigued by the plot in this book and I had high expectations for the story. Always a plus that the main female character is a strong woman (though I felt her to be a little naive sometimes) I liked the way this story build up to the main event, but wished the "strong side" of Natalia could have been used a little more. I also felt like the this story ended to quickly.I would have wished for a little more drama, even more rawness.
But the plot as I said intrigued me - The forbidden, the secrecy, the rawness. The "Tales of the Odalisque" was a fun and steamy read and I enjoyed it. Kinda wish I could pay The Odalisque - and Lucius Belmont a visit
Josie Litton does it again! What a great read! Works as a stand alone, but might be better if you read His Lordship's Downfall first. The story is captivating with a taste of mystery and humor accompanied by an appropriate amount of steam and sex, all of which keep things interesting! No spoilers here, suffice it to say, if you are into contemporary romance, or even if this is your very first read in this genre, this is the book for you! The story absolutely works, it keeps your interest, the characters are well developed and the only thing left to say is READ THIS BOOK! I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review
