I devoured Queen of Gods in one non-stop setting. It was a perfect blend of intrigue, bad ass characters, vampire politics, and sex. The book goes back and forth in POV between two female MC’s. Gwynnore, the vampire novitiate set in her desire for the crown. Her story follows the trials set forth she must pass before obtaining said goal. It also follows Kimber, an acolyte in the Land of Unseen Gods, which appears to be a land of druids, cut off from our world and the vampires centuries ago by magic. Almost everyone appears to have an ulterior motive in all they do, and there were plenty of plot twists and turns that kept me guessing as to what would happen next. If you are familiar with Scarlett’s work- you should know this probably isn’t going to be your “fated mates living happily ever after” series. There is betrayal, death, and lots of blood. After all, for Vampires, Blood is Life. I loved this book, and as always, remembered too late why I don’t like to read first-in-series books until several others are published. Now I am left hanging, desperately wanting more!

I received this ARC copy of Queen of Gods from Scarlett Dawn. This is my honest and voluntary review.

WOW just WOW!!!!!

This new series from Scarlett Dawn and Katherine Rhodes was soooo good. It seems to be a slow burn RH but that is the only aspect of slow in this book. This book is told from two very diffeent women. The first is a vampire named Gwynnore, vampire novitiate with a desire to be queen, and Kimber, a female druid who soon learns she is more than just a childrens teacher. This book is dark, gritty, suspenseful and a wonderful read. The trials that Gwynnore has to endure to become queen are gritty and dark with each trial getting harder and harder until the final one that weeds out all. The last trial brought tears to my eyes.

Kimber finds out that there is soooo much more to her than she believes while also discovering that all the temple taught to the druids is not all roses and sunshine. There is blood and death and darkness hidden behind the light of the mountain.
The secrets that are being hidden behind those in power for both Gwy and Kimber are just barely being scratched and there are sooo many more to discover. Most of the story in this book is Gwys and i just love her ambition and determination to change what has been in place. She wants to change the status quo and will do whatever is needed. She is a kickbutt FMC and wont let anything stop her. Kimber is the opposite to Gym and that is not a bad thing. I loved her also as FMC and hope the next book gives more for her story because I know it is just starting.

GRAB this new series you wont be disappointed at all from thses 2 authors.

At first, the slow unfurling of the worldbuilding was intriguing, but it became so slow that even by the end it isn't completely apparent what Gwynnore and Kimber have to do with each other, and what exactly S'Kir is. I know there's a sequel, but that's no excuse for leaving so many worldbuilding questions open-ended. There wasn't really a Big Reveal that could have made the ending have a bit of punch to it, so you're left wondering "Er, is that it?"

The writing was... fine, mostly, although there was a lot of repetition of some words (that Lamborghini purred so much it might have been a fucking cat), and the sex scenes were sometimes cringey and the complete opposite of hot. I liked how the males were dominating but also very mindful of consent, but when the sex scenes have things like "lordy cock" (it's the cock of a Lord, but do you really have to describe it like that?!) and "He had a magical fucking cock. One I could ride any damn day," and last but certainly not least, "His delightful erection sawed in and out, in and out of my entrance." Please stop.

This is a bit nitpicky, but at one point laudanum is used as a poison. Laudanum is a pretty shit choice for a poison; people have all sorts of tolerances and if you're going to straight up poison someone, there's safer bets like cyanide and strychnine. I can only assume they picked laudanum because of this Olde Worlde vibe.

Speaking of which, the was dealt with ridiculously quickly. It didn't even feel like an obstacle, it was dealt with within the space of a few pages.

There was also quite a lot of Convenient Plot Shit, such as Gwynnore awaking from her two-hundred years' Rest, but it's okay, she can assimilate into modern society immediately because she can take the memories of the humans she's fed on! Whoopee! There's also a scene where Gwynnore needs to shoot a gun, and of course she's perfect at it because one of the humans she drank from "prided themselves on the art of a direct hit." How incredibly fucking convenient for you.

The Kimber chapters weren't nearly as annoying as Gwynnore's chapters, but some questionable shit still happens. Elex takes Kimber to where her parents had died (not a spoiler, don't worry), and Kimber, quite understandably, has a breakdown. And then Elex says (albeit kindly), "If I had known that you were going to react this badly, I might not have suggested this." NO FUCKING SHIT SHE REACTED BADLY!

The one thing I will say, and the reason why it's 2 stars not 1, is that I really liked Gwynnore being a vampire who literally could not give less of a shit about humans, and doesn't go through some sort of bullshit redemption arc where she meets a human properly and decides that actually, yeah, humans have rights. Nope, she literally doesn't care about humans and kills them with impunity, which I find refreshing in an age where many vampire books have been sanitised.

But yeah, overall, this one was a bust.

My Rating: 4.5 Stars - because I see the potential for a Love-Hate Relationship with this series.

Power and sex, lies and secrets, hidden agendas and open hatred. Welcome to the world of QUEEN OF GODS as a new series starts out with a “dual personality” and multiple players, all with an agenda of their very own. Two storylines are playing out as two main voices are heard, Gwynnore, a fierce, over-the-top-with-outward-attitude vampire awakened from a long sleep and Kimber, a Druid who seems to be Gwyn’s polar opposite. Authors Scarlett Dawn and Katherine Rhodes each lend their voice to this tale and neither shies away from in-your-face and bold writing that readers will either love or hate or love to hate in an I-need-more-before-I-pass-judgement kind of way. I think that is where I fall.

I do like when an author is not afraid to bring characters to the table that are less than redeeming in my eyes, because I can always hope for more to come as the series unfolds. These authors have brought them in spades, within both storylines that will surely merge or intersect in a brilliant way eventually. Throughout, I did find two characters I actually liked right off the bat. I am beyond curious to see where this series is going and how these two authors will merge their tales in a way that will make me say, “Aha, I see,” and finishes off the myriad of dangling wires that are clearly being created.

Fans of erotica are definitely going to find something here as sex is used as power, magic and blood become the third bed partners and there is a definite domination thing going on at the expense of two women who are supposedly about to become powerful queens. Do you like a little, okay a LOT of “dysfunctionalness” in your characters? Is it okay that you really do not like any of them but are intrigued by the world they live in? The power of blood and magic to ooze out like dark, molten lava? Sex as a tool used often? The search for where a series is going to go and if “dues” will be paid and paybacks will be forthcoming? I think you may have found that read that will put you on edge as you place your bets on the final outcome.

I received a complimentary copy from Scarlett Dawn!

Holy. Crap. I am still in awe of what I just read. As a fan of Scarlett Dawn's since she first released King Hall, she continues to amaze me with every single release of hers. I do always get a bit nervous when a favorite author of mine decides to co-write with someone, as I wonder how they will be able to merge their voices into one without the reader being able to tell who wrote what. It is totally an art to be able to do that, and these ladies knocked it out of the park with Queen of Gods. I am a new fan of Katherine Rhodes with QoG, and I will totally be checking out her other books soon!

Queen of Gods is told from two alternating POVs, Gwen and Kimber. I would say the majority of the book is from Gwen's POV though. Honestly, I am quite shocked at how invested I became in Gwen's part of the story. Her first chapter is quite shocking when it comes to her morality, and yet somehow these ladies were able to make her into a dynamic character with so many different layers that I couldn't help but root for her within a few chapters. I definitely was a bit more intrigued by her story than Kimber's, though I do think if I get to see more from her POV in the next book that I could become equally as invested in hers.

It wouldn't be a Scarlett Dawn book without some major steam. And holy WOW do she and Katherine Rhodes bring their 'A' game with that in QoG. My Kindle was on FIRE when reading them. The scenes with Gwen and a few notable men were my favorites. Oh my gosh!! And the man in Kimber's life sure gave me a shock when they got to the bedroom! I think it's more fun going into the story not knowing who the main players will be for Gwen and Kimber's hearts, so I will let you readers find out for yourselves who they are. I will say that Gwen's romantic interests sure gave Ezra and Merrick a run for their money in my Scarlett Dawn top book boyfriends list! More, please!

On top of the characters who I came to be so invested in by the end, there is also the unique storyline that Rhodes and Dawn have woven together. I haven't seen vampire or druid mythology quite like it! I am so eager to find out more about their individual races histories as well as what will play out next in Gwen and Kimber's storylines.

I was absolutely relieved to find out upon turning the final page that I will only have to wait til May for more!! I cannot wait! A job well-done, Scarlett and Katherine!

I see that I am clearly in the minority regarding this book. Well it's just how things go, you either love a book or you don't, but I must say that I really did not have enough patience for this story.

First off it felt as if it would have been better as two books, it all just felt so slow and clunky, like one long Yawn. And secondly I couldn't stand the leading ladies they just irritated me no end and I can't tell you why, especially since I usually really enjoy Scarlett's books. Oh well better luck next time.

This book could qualify for a study in weird balancing and complimentary opposing forces.

My favourite set was Gwen's side. While that side lacked in many ways, it entertained me immensely. Kimber's side, while clearly playing an important role, bored me quiet a bit.

I liked Gwen but there wasn't anything there regarding her character for most of the book. Same with Kimber. This was the same for both sides. At the same time you could see both of them showing something to us.

The rest of the characters and storyline followed suit to the above: not much there but the good thing is that they were moving forward in a mostly fluently fashion.

My favourite male was Belshazzar. Mainly cause he seemed to sizzle, but also cause I slipped a few times when reading his name, calling him Balthazar instead before I caught myself and went through the torture of trying proper pronunciation.

• Gwen's sex scenes: being weird, kind of real & super amusing ➡ Enjoyed
• Kimber's sex scenes: somewhat cringy & were set up like a badly written sketch set ➡ Cringed

I enjoyed Gwen's sexies on a humorous note while Kimber's sexies were cringy but could have been so damn hot if they were written better. If I go with sexual criteria only then Kimber wins as it was more detailed, graphic and adult. Gwen was just the opposite with mostly glossed over, under-descriptive and something young people just on this side of sex would read, yet it managed to have a realness to it and humour.

It had issues. Like plotholes, a few stupid, nonsensical plot elements and obviousness that was obviously obvious. Remember: Weird balancing. Complimentary opposing forces.

To sum up: This feels like most everything was set upon hot air and wispy clouds, yet at the same time you can see that them clouds are more solid than they first appeared. While there are some issues in the cloud structure, so you can't put too much weight on it, it can legitimately stand on its own two admittedly shaky feet.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd be giving Scarlett Dawn less than a four or five star rating. Normally whenever I get my hands on one of Scarlett's books I devour it within hours. This time I started it as soon as I got it and very quickly lost interest. I don't particularly care for either of the two main characters (honestly it took me a very long time to realise Gwynn was even female). Kimber is sweet, innocent and... boring, she lacks the 'oomph' needed to make a true leader and I just don't see it. As for Gwynn, she's intriguing but there is way too much mystery surrounding her, and not in a 'I can't wait to find out more' kind of way, and there is an arrogance about her that she doesn't seemed to have earned. This book was honestly hard to read, I would read a chapter, get bored, put it down for a day and then remember that I have to read it to review it... honestly, if I hadn't agreed to review this book I would not have finished it.

I think I'm in agreement with a number of the other reviews I read and that I wish that the two perspectives were seperate stories and not a single book, as they just don't mesh properly. Every time I found myself mildly interested in Gwynn's story the perspective would change and I'd find myself back in Kimber's story and instantly not caring. I'm sad to say it but I just wasn't a fan of this book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

3.5 Stars. It was a solid fantasy but I’m not quite sure of my thoughts on it quite yet. I do know I didn’t connect with the characters and that has something to do with my rating. I did like the world building though.

3.3 stars.
So.
What I’ve learned today is: you can’t always trust that a book that says it’s a ‘reverse harem with one female character’, is going to be a romance.
Cause this, was not.

Now there’s a bunch of other books in the series, so maybe this was just an introduction, and the romance will develop over time.
I’m just not interested enough to to find out.

This was honestly super strange.
There was 2 POVs. Two very separate stories, with very different main characters, one a vampire trying to become queen, and one a Druid thats magic upgrades randomly.
It felt like 2 completely different books, related to each other, spliced together randomly.
And I only liked, or cared about one of them, unfortunately. Which is usually what happens for me with books that have multiple MCs like this where they’re in different places, or time zones or whatever. I almost never like both.

Then the one plot line with the character I did like, the vampire, was having sex with multiple guys for sure. But I would literally Never call what happened here a RH. And they’re not in relationships or even thinking about catching feelings, so at least one of them, that we know of explicitly, fucks some other woman just a day or two after him and the FMC sleep together.
I really thought about DNFing at that point, because I abhor reading about cheating or characters having intimate interactions with other people.
But. By that point I was already pretty far in, and since none of the characters seem inclined to go for more than one night stands with each other, I couldn’t really classify it as cheating, and at that point I couldn’t even tell if he’d be in this mythical harem the author had promised. So I trudged on.

Then there’s the other storyline, the Druid. She has a pretty normal friends-to-lovers, fast paced little romance with one guy.
But.
It was just so sudden and weird, like a flip had switched with this guy. When it was happening I kept expecting the guy to flip again and become the villain.
And all the shit this character goes through are just confusing and a bit boring compared to the other storyline.

I can 100% tell this was written by 2 authors instead of one. Maybe I missed something along the way, or I just don’t understand things fully with just this book for the info, but it really seemed like it contradicted itself a few times. And it just left me super confused and wondering which version I should stick to.

Bottom line:
I didn’t like one of the FMCs.
I didn’t like the way their things progressed with the men.
And I Especially didn’t like that this doesn’t contain any actual romance, or even any feelings. It reads like a paranormal book with an objective, and some fun sex scenes they tossed in to distract you from nothing happening between any of them relationship wise.

Just.
It wasn’t for me, I guess. And I’m not gonna go to the next to see if gets any better, because I just don’t care enough as of right now.

I didn't realize it in advance but I have previously read Queen of Gods by Scarlett Dawn & Katherine Rhodes in the anthology Magic and Alphas: A Paranormal Romance Collection
by Scarlett Dawn, Catherine Vale, Margo Bond Collins, C.J. Pinard, Devin Fontaine, Katherine Rhodes, Brenda Trim, Tami Julka , Calinda B. I was conflicted the first time around and have to say I probably wouldn't of requested a review read if I did realize it was the same book.

After this weekends re-read, I still feel the same.

I'm highly conflicted by Queen of Gods. I am a huge fan of Dawn and the Forever Evermore series is one of my all-time favorite series. If you see my reading history, you'll know that is saying something.

That being said, I was not a fan of any character in this book. Bloodthirsty, evil and vile the lot of them. Gwynnore's only redeeming quality was her friendship with Adelie and I'm sad to say that I can not go into what happens because it's a huge spoiler. What I can say is what does happen, that was the final nail in a glimmer of hope I had to connect in anyway to this story. I want them all dead! ... So, I guess that is an emotional response but not one I was looking for to become an invested reader.

I'm also a fan of the erotic romance, in this, the sex overtook the substance.

Sometimes you just have to say, this book was not for me. If you enjoy, straight out, erotic, dark paranormal reads, this would be the book for you.

I received this ARC copy of Queen of Gods from Scarlett Dawn. This is my honest and voluntary review. Queen of Gods is set for publication Feb. 27, 2018.

Note: A story by these authors was released under this name before as part of a collection. If you intend to continue this series, you will need to read this new version.

There are two main female characters in Queen of the Gods, one is a druid, Kimber, and one is a vampire, Gwynnore. I liked seeing the contrast between how the two of them dealt with being called for a higher purpose and how they dealt with that call.

Vampires in this world consider themselves above humans are quiet ruthless. No kind, sparkly vampires here, humans are killed and drained for their blood without a second thought. If that bothers you, don’t read this novel. Gwenn has been woken from rest to return home as a potential candidate for Queen, a position she has been aspiring to all her life as she wants to change the rules that are very restrictive for females. During quest to be queen, she interacts with several very interesting males, one of which is supposed to be her king, and learns that gaining power comes with a cost. The original version of this story was Gwen’s and I don't remember any notable changes over what I read before.

Kimber on the other hand, is an acolyte druid who loves being a teacher and never had a desire for power or influence. Yet events place her in a center role and she thoughtless charges ahead without any consideration to what that might mean, despite warnings to the contrary. She too is confronted with the price of power, and has to choose to control her future or let it control her.

It is not immediately clear how these two story lines will come together, but I have a few suspicions. I am excited for hits journey and where it takes these women and how it changes them and how they change the world..This story is billed as reverse harem. While one of ladies has at least two clear romantic partners and the other may have a couple of males interested in her, it is not clear which of them will end up with harem (or both).

I haven't read a book like this in a long time. Two POVs, two different stories, yet you could feel the pull in them—the pull to get together, become one, because they were more interconnected than it seemed.
The book was full of characters with their own agendas and the intrigue level was off the charts and I was loving every bit of it.

"Be warned, my dear. Many of us do have secret agendas we do not share with one another. We have lived and served under the same roof for more than a thousand years and some of us much longer. Our lives would be boring without our own agendas. If we did not keep secrets, we would be horrible people. Horrible. Worse than anything Dorian has shown you."

And now, I can't wait to see what the next book will bring...

I was confused as to what was going on for about half of the book.
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.
I am so intrigued.
I fucking bloody loved it.

Gwen: trials to be queen of vamps
Kimber: important to her society.
Gods: apparently important
Elex: the man of my dreams. A fucking savage.

I need a therapist after reading about Elex.

Bel: huge penis
Nial: smaller penis but equally sexy
Cato: please tell me he’s not part of this apparent harem that I didn’t see at all???

ARE WE SURE THIS IS REVERSE HAREM?!
There wasn’t any of that.
More like polyamory.

I feel like a lot of important information is being withheld, for a reason, but still needed to understand what the actual fuck is going on.

Kimber’s story really surprised me. I mean it was all joyous day, sunshine and flowers, kids and happy magic... and then...
She’s suddenly spread eagle and just fucking soaked for Elex’s dirty antics in the bedroom.
WHAT A FUCKING TRANSITION.
Again, therapy.
You know what they say... it’s the quiet ones you gotta watch out for.

Gwen’s story: I have no idea where this is going. I also felt really bad for her at the end and I’m loving her persona.
Honestly I’m team Bel, if that’s even a team since idk who the hell is gonna be her love interest(s) next book???

Read this.

I liked it but ,but didn’t love it.... and where was the RH ?

I’m not really sure what to say here, this was a fast paced intriguing and interesting story but just because it’s the start of a series doesn’t be you always have to feel lost or behind....
Honestly I didn’t like having to switch between the heroines that was never in the various and numerous bulbs I was sent via email ,just as I would get really into one h’s part of the story I’d be thrown back to the other and it was kinda jarring at times.....
I rather liked Ike’s Gwen’s side of the story more, her fiery nature and attitude was more of what I like and enjoy in a h and I felt I related to her more....
Kimber is sweet and has a quiet strength but honestly she was too nice for me and if the story had been just her and Elex I don’t think I could have finished it, she was strong but to me just strong enough not to be a doormat ,I couldn’t see her as a leader in the slightest.....

Both sides of the story felt like a mystery , that were all a 1/2 doz. clues behind on,like I’ve just had decent Chinese take out but I barely got thru eating only to feel like I haven’t really eaten anything at all......
Too much mystery, I mean Kimber is sweet and all with her BF who’s Uber sweet and attentive one minute and trying to some sorta Alpha Dom. the next, but I never really felt like I got to know her or what she is or anything, it’s like she goes from being an elementary school teacher from magical children one minute to who the heck knows the next...
It’s ok, if she’s clueless but we should have something ...

And Gwen, too much mystery there as well all these challenges and tail chasing, but we never honestly get a true clue as to what’s going on or why,and that last challenge?
That was just a 100 shades of wrong, honestly I was hoping she’d refuse to do it and we find out that was the true test because I was complete and total BS!
I hated that....
And Reverse Harem?!?!?!?!?!??
Where ?
NEITHER h HAD EVEN THE START OF A ménage MUCH LESS a RH!
Why is this called a RH?
Kimber ONLY had Elex ! Dorian seemed interested in a jerky sometime jealous/possessive kinda way but. She wasn’t his or vice versa....
And Gwen ?!?!?!!
Her situation was kinda worse, at least Kimber HAD Elex,Gwen had sex twice one with lord Belshazzar and once with Nial, wanted and lusted after Bel and he see to want her but supposed no one could know and he sleep with someone else after as well,he didn’t see to have liked or enjoyed it but honestly despite the lust they both seemed to carry for the other it tainted everything for me...
I mean the h sleeping with others in an RH happens but it’s like a menage it’s usually only between certain others and their is a relationship in place ...
This was just a big mess and no RH to be had,Kimber seemed a single true mate and Gwen just a couple of meaningless booty calls...
I want to call Bel more because I liked them together but they were too busy other things to be anything and Nial kept to himself and only seemed to care about what he had to...
Nial seemed under developed and one dimensional anyway....
Ps. I hope they change the cover of the next book, that is one angry and ugly looking guy.....
Will I read more ?
At this moment I don’t know why I should, this was sooo NOT a RH and if it hadn’t been for Kimber and Elex there wouldn’t have been any romance...
I honestly feel like I should have stopped with “Trigger” with Ms.Dawn, she blew me away Poppy and Godric , they were an AMAZING couple, only to destroy me in the next book and I can’t say I’ve been the same with her or trusted her the same way since...
But NO RH here...

I originally read this story in an anthology published last year. I enjoyed it then but the authors have made significant changes since then and wow is all i can say. The story has been expanded on and they have done a fantastic job. It is fast past and exciting and the chAracters are well written and likeable. I really like the MFC Gwyn she is a kickass take no prisoners kind of girl. She suffers from a terrible choice she has to make towards the end of the book, and her strength shines through. The rest of the collaborative characters are also well written and likeable and there are some delightfully steamy scenes through the book. I can not wait to see where this series is going. Highly recommended.

10 stars for Gwen's part, 0 star for Kimber's. This books is told from two POVs, Vampire Gwen and Acolyte Kimber. While the part about Gwen followed her challanges to complete in order to become queen, the part about Kimber followed her....eeeh I don't even remember anything except her relationship with her best friend Elex, which felt forced. I don't even really understand the point of Kimber's POV. Perhaps setting the ground for next book?
I give 4 stars in total, the Gwen's part is worth it and I will definitely read the next book.

I received an ARC in exchange for a review.

I'm no stranger to Scarlett Dawn's writings having read her Forever Evermore series; which were amazing! But, I'm not here to talk about that fun and sexy series.

I'm here to give you my thoughts on Queen of Gods. How to begin? It had been a few months since I had read a supernatural or paranormal book. I have been reading quite a few cozy mysteries. So, when I started reading Queen of Gods, I was piqued by the beginning of the story.

I was immersed in a culture and land where magic reigns and it's not a taboo subject to talk about in fear of being institutionalized like some other books refer to the discovery of magic by non-magic folks. This was refreshing to read yet my brain had to quickly switch gears to understand. Admittedly, I was under the impression of an unsuspecting woman discovering her magic and having to hide it but the book is not so. Far from it.

In Queen of Gods, we meet two women who are smart and confident. Don't we love heroines like this? They were also bold in their wants and needs. They did not shy away from making their voices heard and going after what they wanted.

Queen of Gods is sexy! Certainly not for the faint of heart in both blood, gore, and sex. You are immersed in a world where intelligence and decision-making rules. The minute you show weakness, you are done. These women.... they embodied defying the odds that were against them.

I wondered, at first, how two authors, one whom I've not read, could come together to create a captivating story but I was pleasantly surprised at how both worlds coexisted together yet separately of each other. I do not know which author wrote which part of the story (and I'm totally fine with that) but the whole book works amazingly well together.

Reading Queen of Gods was fun and exciting.

This was a disappointment really, which is a shame, as the premise was good.

The two words I'd use to sum up this book up would be juvenile and shallow. I read one review that said it was like this book was written by two horny teenagers, and I totally see what they mean.

I LOVE an anti-heroine or hero. Almost all my favourite literally characters are morally ambitious, blood thirsty and just a bit fucked up. But there's a depth to them that makes you like them and root for them despite any of this. It felt like there was zero depth to any of these characters.

Gwen had her moments of bad-assery, and there is definitely potential for her based on how the book ended, but I just found myself eye rolling at her attitude a lot. A whole lot of arrogance and not a lot to back it up, in my opinion.

Bel was really barely a character at all in this, apart from one sexual encounter and a lot of postering. Niall, again, what did we learn about him? He likes to use his magic to randomly group Gwen. The other Over Lords didn't really do a lot either.

Kimber and her story was a snooze fest. I didn't get a great sense of their world either. Was it totally cut off from the rest of humanity? They seemed to have their own Utopia thing going on.

I also found the sex scenes laughable and way too over the top. Again, it felt like teenagers writing thinking how many overtly ways they can describe the various acts in details to make it seem edgy or something, that was off-putting for me. Also, the whole over the top domineering man in the bedroom thing got old pretty fast, as they were all the same.

This has turned pretty ranty, so I will end by saying I think I'm going to pick up book 2, as there does seem to be potential that things could get more interesting, but I hope the characters develop.more and the sex gets less cheesy.

2.5 stars overall.

Um well it was alright(not), i got suprised when it was two MC in this book and we also got to read from both of their PoV. So each and every chapter it changed to the other MC.
I can honestly say that i didn't care much about Kimbers PoV , i thought she was kind a boring you can sort of say and i didn't connect with her. Gwen was a lot better than kimber, i enjoyed her chapters/PoV , she was funny , snarky, bitchy and a lil wild. I prefer MC that can snap back, ya know what i mean.
But Wtf some things was just so cringe worthy, like how could kimber and Elex not realize that they loved each other after soo long??? And from one moment when Elex say that he likes her , he jumps her and goes all sex crazy and not in a good way(my opinion) like he's first sweet and caring n all that stuff and then he turns into some dominant guy... eh whut . They start having all this kink sex, he get's dominant and she's like i don't fucking mind

And i have some problems with gwen also, first it says that she hates that original druid and then she goes and have sex with him... makes no sense to me. First she could not even be in the same room as him... i am like what the fuck

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I previously read what it seems was the first draft of this story in the Magic and Alphas anthology, so I was able to pinpoint all the ways they changed it and... boy, did it go another way.
Starting with the first chapter, Gwyn's storyline is less bloodthirsty... but I still think all the characters there are assholes. The authors need to go a long way to redeem them.
Kimber's storyline was new and perfect. It adds sweetness to the whole. I really like her and her males (I have my suspicious BUT Scarlett said no spoilers).
I fear for all the true mates/soul mates out there. We all know how Scarlett feels about them (spoiler, she hates them. Usually kills them or made them forget and they. leave. us.)
I have my favourites and pray they will be ok in the next book.
Cannot wait for April.

Wasn't sure what to expect but it sure surprised me!

The reviews here are very mixed but I personally loved it!

Told in alternating POV between Gwen (the vampire Queen candidate) and Kimber (the mage who will break the spine) this is unlike any other RH out there. They live in different worlds, the vampires in modern day and the mages in a secluded ancient society. The world are cut off from each other but the walls that separate them are breaking thanks to Kimber.

Gwen is fierce, Kimber is a little pathetic. I'll admit I skipped whole sections of Kimbers story. It just didn't engage me the way Gwen did and I found myself just wanting to get back to Gwen. but that didn't dampen my love for this at all

With the trails Gwen had to complete and the amazing Overlords I had everything I needed

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy.
Wow I couldn’t put this book down. It has action, badass characters, drama and lots of hot sex. It’s dual POV between Gwynnore and Kimber. The story flows really well between the two. Gwynnore is a candidate to become queen. She has to do 5 trials and pass to be queen. She does have to make some hard decisions during the trials. She is strong and doesn’t take crap from anyone. Kimber is a Druid. She is more sweet. She feels the magic calling to her in the mountains where it’s separates the druid and the vampires. I can’t wait to see what happens for Gwynnore and Kimber in the next book!

Ok, so I waited to start this series until book 3 came out because I didn't need yet another multi-book drag happening, plenty of those already! Only to find out there will be 3 more! Ms. Dawn, you are cruel...
It started out ok, definitely liked Gwens story more than Kimber and yes, I was wondering how this was advertised as RH. Well, about 2/3 of the story, I started to really pay attention! Whoa, Bel.
Not. An. Easy. Lover.
Gotta say, this book starts so normal (for paranormal) that you are in boiling water before you know it! Definitely worth reading this series, its really well done.

I previously read some of the books by Scarlett Dawn and liked them. So I picked this one.

This book is 200 pages too long for me. I am in minority here. I didn't enjoy this story, I finished reading it since I started it. Book pretty much dragged for most of the time. Actual story happens in the last 100 or so pages I think. Rest all felt like a filler. All the characters are vain and act like silly teenagers but they are hundreds of years old.
