Together, they will begin the search for others with extraordinary powers, to stop a war that’s been brewing for over a millennia.

descriptionI seldom give a book cover 5 Stars but this one is most worthy of that rating. It is a fantastic representation of the story. It makes fabulous use of graphics. Has good composition and title work as well.description

descriptionSo this book was pretty awesome. I was a little bit unsure with the theme as I am not a fan of sci-fi romances but I have read one other superhero themed "romance" awhile back so I jumped into this one with high hopes and like I said, I was not disappointed in the least.

description

The writing was excellent. The pace was good. The plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages. The author does an excellent job of world building. There wasn't any angst or OW/OM drama. It's a bit of a slow build romance wise, but also very insta at the same time. I know that makes no sense, but you will get what I mean when you read the book. The sex scenes were hot. The secondary characters were interesting and I am sure as the series goes on more and more will be introduced. Both the main characters were very likable. Draco is reluctant to get involved with Rose at the beginning, so we do have some pushing away, but he has a good reason and changes his mind pretty quickly. Rose was a strong heroine, and I loved her relationship with her brother. Lastly, this was all wrapped up in an HFN for the couple and as this is going to be an ongoing series the overall storyline will continue into the other book(s).

This one definitely deserves a HUGE two thumbs up from yours truly. Bring on book two...description

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this but that’s not surprise considering that I love superheroes and I love romance. Give me a book with both and of course I’ll love it!

This was a really good start to the series. I always love the whole concept of heroes getting together to fight the bad guys. I will never not love that.

The two main characters, Draco and Rose, were amazing. They had a ton of chemistry and overall made a really cute couple. Draco reminded me a bit of the Wolverine because he was such a recluse. He was so manly, like damn, I want a piece of that too. Rose, looks-wise, reminded me of Dove Cameron (who I have a massive celebrity crush on). I loved that despite being a virgin, Rose was very open and comfortable about her sexuality, because not all virgins are clueless about sex.

The supporting characters were great as well, especially AJ. I can’t wait to see more of his character.

Story-wise, this book was incredibly fast paced, I had a hard time putting it down!

Additionally, I loved that it included a playlist. I love it when books include playlists because I like matching up songs to different parts of the books. Some of the songs on the playlist are some of my favorites like “Believer” by Imagine Dragons and “Wings” by Birdy.

Overall, if you love superheroes and romance, you’ll definitely love this! I can’t wait to start reading the next one!

Dawn (Hero Society) is deep, dangerous, and steamy. This one breaks all the rules and adds a unique twist to "superheroes." If you love fast paced reads with super-human characters, action, and passion, then this one is for you.

The Plot: Dawn signifies the rise of the heroes. Draco has been living a lonely existence, having lost many during his time as an immortal. He has vowed to live a solitary life, until he meets Rose. Rose has powers of empathy, while her brother, Phillip, can see the future. Their lives entwine and Draco has to make a decision to stay the shell of a man he was, or to embark on a journey to combine their powers for good against a darkness threatening mankind and those with special abilities.

I have to applaud Jessica for this one. She has written a fabulously fun, witty "superhero" type book for adults. This one combined a well developed world with an intriguing cast of characters, danger, intrigue, passion, and the paranormal. I really enjoyed the writing and world building. I was immediately drawn in to the story and kept wanting more. I didn't even mind the sex scenes (my regular readers how I feel about sex scenes, and these were incredibly steamy). The plot of the story was fun and kind of reminded me of the new television show, Gifted, and the characters were very entertaining.

Rose intrigued me throughout the book. She was curious and innocent, but also had a dark side hiding within. She had an amazing ability, and was quite like-able for me at times, but also sometimes annoying with her choices and actions. That made her feel real and intriguing to read. She had depth and wasn't just one dimensional. I also really admired her confidence.

Phillip was a sweet, humorous character. I adored him as a perfect big brother and loved his ability. He was definitely not a typical "hero". He felt like a real person with his personality and his adorable "nerdiness".

And, of course, we have Draco. Draco was dreamy. Draco was alluring and mysterious. He added such depth and passion to the story, and the book would have been lost without him. I enjoyed his character the most and am looking forward to reading more of him in the rest of the series!

All in all, I though the book had a nice pace. The plot was fun, interesting, and suspenseful, and the story background, though I wish it had more, was unique and captivating. I do wish the story had had a little more going on, and had a shorter sex scene (totally a personal preference on not usually enjoying graphic sex scenes), but I still really enjoyed it, was hooked enough to finish it in one sitting, and am looking forward to the next book.

Thank you to the author for sending me a free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Had I known what this was really about, I would have avoided it. I thought it was going to be full of superhero fun and epic battles...but really it’s kind of like a PWP fanfic. The writing was mediocre, the dialog was so so corny. Basically if you want some hot smut, and don’t care about the plot, you’ll love this. But I need plot.

4.5 "Draco can save me any day of the week" Stars!!!

The blurb is self explanatory. And plus, just to be on the safe side I don't want to give anything away.

I was so intrigued when Jessica said she was writing a superheroes book. There's just something about getting immersed in a otherworldly world. And this book did not disappoint. The storyline was unique and well developed. The characters were likable and each brought their own flare. I found myself getting lost in the writing. It was thrilling and kept you guessing on what was going to happen next. The romance aspect also hooked me. It wasn't overly done, just the right amount to keep the reader happy. The suspense was also enticing, it definitely kept you on the edge of your seat. An absolute gem, that's what this book was.

"She was tightening her grip around my whole being, and she didn’t even know it."

Draco and Rose were the freaking cutest. The way they cared for each other and would do anything and everything to keep the other safe was endearing. I loved their friendship and how they'd confide in each other. They knew exactly what the other person needed just by looking at each other. They calmed each other's worries just by being in each other's presence. Their connection was fiery and they burned brightly. Two hearts meant to beat as one. I just loved them.

Phillip, Phillip, Phillip. OMFG, I NEED more Phillip!!! He intrigued me so much. I know there's more to him and I can't wait to find out what that more is!

I need book 2 right now! I can't wait to get lost in this world again!

DNF Chapter 13

I expected way more from this book than I've got. The writing stye was boring and not good. It was cheesy. I felt like reading about kids who play Heroes in their free time. Nothing wrong about that, but we have a 2000 year old Hero, a 25 year old Heroine and her brother (age unknown to me). So definitely not kids.
The POV was split in two, from the Heroine and the Hero. First POV. And there was no distinction between the two voices. They were the same. I hate when that happens.

They were so immature and giddy. Heroine alway wanted to touch the Hero and feel his feelings, because she's an empath. And then she would always describe said feelings. And then she would push feelings of friendship and love and hugs towards the Hero, so that he wouldn't feel sad anymore. So much feelings in this book...

The Hero was supposed to be a 2000 year old ancient greek warrior. That didn't come across the pages. There was no character, no grit, no emotions. He just was. There on his farm, feeling sad and lonely.

Heroine is not very experienced in the love department. What a surprise! And she lusts after Hero since day one, blushing furiously when she sees him in his "birthday-suit". I'm just rolling my eyes.

Phillip, her brother, is supposed to be a hotshot wealthy guy. Nerdy. He has the plan to form a group of Heroes so that they can protect the world. It would be an interesting concept, but the execution was just bad.

I stopped reading when the Heroine commented on the fact that a bad guy was on the loose after killing multiple persons and they couldn't find him. Her response: "This sucks". Yeah, for me too, because I had high hopes for this book.

2,5 ⭐️

when i read the synopsis for dawn i was pretty excited because it sounded so good. i still like the idea a lot but i didn’t like the execution of it. it all happened too fast, the scenes/chapters weren’t really developed, the romance happened instantly, the characters were pretty boring and the writing was just bad in my opinion.

Wow! This book is just so freakin’ cool.
Like ‘nerd cool’ & ‘geek cool’ got together & had a threesome with ‘seriously hot & sexy.’
And it works... boy, does it work.

It’s my first read from Jessica Florence & I loved her writing style from page one.

It’s clever, witty & in this story you’re provided with enough detail to understand the back drop of the story without feeling snowed under by pages and pages of set-up explanation.

The premise is awesome & again, just plain cool. Beautifully simplistic, the world is a loose kinda mash up of Heroes, XMen & Avengers.

It’s sci-fi enough that you know you’re only at the tip of the adventure with this first book, and you also know that the reason for the formation of the society is only going to become more challenging as the potentially dystopian threat pushes harder against them.

The characters are well developed without being over contrived - regardless of the fact that they have “powers”. Their personalities are crisp and individual, and each of the leads draw you in to their plight & make it easy to connect with them.

Draco is one sexy immortal demi-God and I would sleep in his chicken coop any day. Oh, and I don’t care how many cardigans I had to think about... that man showering is not something to be missed. Do not even get me started on the dark room.

Rose is a complete badass, and I love that her strength comes from her ability to feel. She’s relatable, likeable & sassy with a side of vulnerable - the perfect heroine for Draco.

I’m crushing a little on Phillip & AJ, each for different reasons, and hope that at some point in this tale Phillip gets his own POV / book / HEA.

I devoured Dawn in one sitting, and I can’t wait for book two, Day. I also know I’m not on my own wanting more of Draco & Rose... but also to find out about Leon and who is the chick that dances in the cage.

🖤🖤🖤🖤

This book.... Ahhhhhh!!!  Its killing me.... 😭😭😭..

INTENSE, CAPTURING, STEAMY, EMOTIONAL, THRILLING.
I got on a train named DAWN and never wanted to get down.

🖤🖤🖤🖤

This book has got that X-MEN movie vibe with all that future seeing, emotions controlling. There was such a rush of excitement and thrill while reading DAWN, I just couldn't sit still.. Draco being an immortal had his heart broken and was in no rush to re-live it.. It all changed when Rose came stumbling in his cabin and his life. Rose and her brother Philip, wanted Draco to join their Hero Society to protect the mankind.. Philip, being the seer, Rose, with her ability to control the emotions and Draco with his life long experience sought out their kinds help. Even AJ, the nerd took my heart with him..

🖤🖤🖤🖤

Every story has a villain. So, here comes Raven who was keen on creating a society to destroy the Mankind and has a thirst of powers..

🖤🖤🖤🖤

This book comes with an erotic twist which will live you flustered and hot..  I never wanted it to finish but alas, Jessica likes to keep the suspense fresh. The thing which I really liked about DAWN is its pace...not a bit slagging and not even rushed... .perfectly written. I'm so looking forward to read and meet all the other super heroes and to see more of Draco and Rose..

"Even if the darkness was just around the corner. We would always rise like the dawn, to fight the shadows of the world of mankind."

I was very skeptical to start reading Dawn, by Jessica Florence. I'm not much of a sci-fi, fantasy reader, but after finishing this book..... I'm HOOKED! It was honestly refreshing to what I'm used too. An action packed, nail biting, sizzling romance.

"She was tightening her grip around my whole being, and she didn't even know it."

Dawn is unique, intense, passionate, and I breathed in every word. To say I'm intrigued to see where Jessica goes with this series, is an understatement. I want MORE!

So in saying all this as soon I started reading I was drawn right in. Draco will capture all of your attention and you can't help yourself to want to learn more and more. I read this book in day. So...okay I'm not even sure what to make of this book. I didn't care too much for the characters (they just felt so bland and lifeless, like the author just picked them off of a randomizer website) and the story progressed WAY TO FAST. It's not for me.

5 freaking wonderful stars!! So I know when picking up this authors work that I will like it but damn if this isn't a spectacular beginning to a kick ass series!!

This is book one of the "Hero Society" series. Do not miss out!!

This book takes you on a paranormal journey with a twist. I love it!! I'm so invested that I am dying to get to the next book!! I haven't read too much about empaths but I'm hooked. First of all I think Rose is freaking awesome! Her personality is beautiful and she takes no shit. I love her and Drako together! Phillip is spectacular brother. The bad guys are creepy as shit but I love it.

I love the whole idea of this story. Usually I give you my version of a blurb but when I went into this story I only went in recognizing that it was going to be some type of hero book. And I am glad I knew nothing because it rocked my world. I have been in a slump and this brought me right out of it!! I feel like this is the start of a extraordinary series!! I love the look into the past with Drako and the look into the future with Phillip.

The book is a super easy read. The back stories on everyone were so emotional and beautiful. I was in love, heart broke, laughing my butt off, scared, angry and so many other emotions. The author did an excellent job at conveying exactly what she wanted you to feel. This is a must read for 2017!!

**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review (sorry I am late..)**

I give Hero Society: Dawn 5/5 ⭐️

If you're a fan of superheroes and gods then this is a book for you! It reminded me a lot of the X-Men which is one of my favs.

It grabbed my attention immediately and never lost it. It was very fast paced--but not rushed. And never dragged on. I could NOT put it down--I even lost sleep over it.

And of course among the action there is a love story with some erotica in the mix. What I really like is it was not rushed but actually developed most authors are like here's a boy here's a girl BAM 3 chapters in they're together. I love when authors tease you with relationships and you're like omg this just needs to happen and then when it does it's well worth the wait and Jessica did this and did not disappoint ^_~

I can't wait to see what happens next and to meet new characters. Jessica thank you so much for the amazing read can't wait for next book!!!

Dawn is different than my usual reads- I am a contemporary romance and romantic comedy kind of girl. That said, Jessica did a fantastic job with this book! Jessica took me into a world that was fun and exciting. A world where it’s good versus evil. A world full of action but one that also had romance. It’s evident the characters and plot are well developed and thought out. I quickly got absorbed in that world and had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next.

Well written, romantic, emotional, and a page turner- Dawn is one book you don’t want to miss!

Dawn: Hero Society #1 by Jessica Florence
Superheroes, adult romance, standalone start to a related series
4.25 stars

Books have been running together for me lately. I felt like I really needed something unique for me, so when Jessica Florence announced she was writing a super hero book, I was so excited. I never read one, but I love superhero movies. So I was picturing Fantastic Four and Marvel Comics. While Dawn (Hero Society 1) had aspects of that, their powers were a little more subtle than I expected.
“The time is now, Draco. Something is coming—something that will change life for all mankind if we aren’t prepared. We need you. They need you.”

Phillip can see the future. Though futures are always in flux, he can see multiple outcomes. And one thing he knows—evil is coming. His sister Rose is an empath. Not the type that you may encounter in real life though, she is a true empath, with thoughts and feelings from others, especially when she touches them, that can be overwhelming. When she meets Draco, she immediately knows he is different as well. Draco’s power is immortality.

After living for thousands of years and outliving anyone he ever loved, Draco is living a shell of an existence. He won’t allow himself to get attached again, because he will just lose them to old age and he will have to go on with another piece of his heart missing. When he meets the beautiful and innocent Rose (who has a pink birthmark that covers a good portion of her face, I love this!), he tries to resist, but is powerless against her.

While there was an exciting good vs. evil storyline, at heart, this was mostly a romance between Rose and Draco.
"She was fire beneath my fingers, and I signed the deal to burn forever as long as I could keep touching her."

Even though there was a good amount or world-building in this story, there was adventure, excitement, friendship, and some super-hot sex.
"Our moment in time was forever sealed into a photograph." (SO HOT!)

The one thing that did surprise me was how much of a romance it was, and it didn’t feel rushed.
“Falling hopelessly.” I leaned my head in for a kiss, and he pressed a gentle one to my waiting lips.
“Hopelessly fallen,” he replied against them before giving me another peck.

A small part of me was disappointed that they didn’t have more exciting super powers. Despite really enjoying the story, that twinge of disappointment in that one aspect stayed with me, but it also made me super excited to read the next one, because the previews sound exactly like what I want—he has strength and speed! Squee!

Likes:

•A totally different and unique concept.
•The cover.
•More romantic than I expected.
•I loved all 4 main characters, the beginning of the Hero Society.
•Despite there being a lot going on, this was a romance at heart.
•Less dark urban fantasy and more romance than the blurb and cover suggest.
•There were some exciting and suspenseful scenes.
•I LOVE Phillip and can’t wait for his story, and I hope AJ gets one too!
•No shortage of sexy times.
•Loved her birthmark.

Dislikes:

•Their powers weren’t quite as super as I expected.
•Since they are trying to build a society, I'd like to see them pick up a few more heroes in each book.

The Down & Dirty:
Dawn: Hero Society #1 by Jessica Florence certainly satisfied my need for something a little different. A cross between paranormal, sci-fi and romance with romance being the most dominant, this unique story wasn’t anything like what I expected. I expected and wanted more cool superhero gifts like flying and invisibility, and got immortality, empath, and future seer. It looks like the hero in the next book has super strength and speed so I’m totally excited for that one. But still, despite my preconceived notions of powers, Dawn was filled with more romance and emotion than I expected, as well as some excellent set-ups for a long series that I look forward to sticking with. I think Dawn would be an easy transition for a reader who has never read paranormal or sci-fi.

Rating: 4.25 stars, 4.25 Heat

This was a fast paced and fun story about heroes.

Rose and Draco are super sweet (and often hottt) together. Although, I will say it almost felt like two different couples between the first half and the second half, because they moved so fast, it seemed their relationship developed quickly that they morphed into a different couple in a blink.
Draco is grumpy and Rose is sunshine. It felt like Rose was too sunshine at times and as soon as Draco and Rose start being together he went from grumpy to asshole real quick. There's a distinction.
I really could have done without Rose being treated like glass, as if she can't make her own decisions even Draco's "well it's ok if we're doing it together, so I know she won't do something stupid. " She is not some tag-along sir, have a damn seat.

This is the first book and this society of heroes aren't already formed so we're at the start of it all so that's fun seeing that come together and how this world, the heroes and villains will be developed and if there's a blur between the two.

Excited to see what direction things will take off in.

Pretty sure Phillip is hiding many more secrets.
And I hope we'll see more and more of Aj. I'll protect him with my life thank you very much.

Super heroes, romance, finding your tribe. Can you imagine being born from the gods and your sole purpose is to protect humanity? Can you imagine how lonely & emotionally devastating immortality can be? Poor Draco. Living thousands of years, watching loved ones die. You could feel his torment.

Rose & Phillip barge onto his farm, but give him a revived purpose. Using their gifts to sway Draco’s decision to join them in creating an Hero Society to fight evil that’s headed their way.

I found this story charming and sweet. It definitely had some Twilight vibes in the characters’ powers. I’m not sure if this was for me, but it was a well told adventure for those who dig superheroes & saving the world.

Fun Start

This was a truly enjoyable book! Fast- paced and full of adventure, I loved the supernatural elements and lore in the start of this series!

This book was amazing! I loved every part of it and I'm yearning for the second book in this series! I need it to answer all my questions and satisfy my cravings for these characters.
This book to me was close to being as good as A Court Of Thorn and Roses by Sarah J. Maas as it had elements of fantasy and combining two world together and powers becoming known. The romance was a steamy and Rose, Draco and Philip were not teenagers so I am going to classify this as a new adult novel.
I am saying it was close to because it needs more character and world building to give it more depth and for readers to see what world Jessica Florence is developing. I found the writing style to be what I wanted for this book and I think if the characters were more developed to be mature and have adult aspects in the novel it would fit better into the New Adult category.
I recommend this book to 15+ because there are steamy scenes and that is perhaps not something pre-teens should be reading. Overall I loved it and this series would be one to look out for as it has such a strong story.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. What I really loved about this book was the amount of thought and creativity that went into the story. I don't want to give spoilers, but the origin of the superpowers is original and well done. I have read many romance novels, but I'm not sure if any will ever top "The Dark Room" scene. Overall there was only one aspect of the story that I didn't care for and that was that the story is told from two point of views: Draco's and Rose's. The reason I didn't care for this is because with getting both point of views, it takes the mystery out of it. You know what both characters are thinking and feeling so you know they are going to give in to their attraction.
