On the Edge of Regret

Rate this book
Brix Kelley is a typical, small-town girl, who grew up with scraped knees and dirty fingernails. Nash Cooper was the defiant teen of the town, who’s been in trouble with the law, practically from birth. The two have been friends for longer than they can remember, and somewhere along the way, a flame ignited.

They were inseparable. Then, suddenly, when she was just 15 years old, Brix left town, leaving behind everyone she’s ever loved, in search of a fresh start. She cut off contact with all five of her closest, childhood friends, never intending to return. But, when a tragic event forces her to go back six years later, she’s hesitant and unsure of what kind of reception she’ll receive…especially from Nash.

Still tortured by the ghosts of his past, Brix finds Nash as rebellious as ever, but for the first time since they met, his anger is aimed at her. Just when it seems as though things might be looking up, secrets, which have been long held and deeply buried, begin to surface, throwing them both into a tailspin.

With all the outside forces meant to keep them apart, can they find their way back? Was the love they shared as teens strong enough to bond them again as adults, or will the secrets from the past cause irreparable damage?

“On the edge of amazing.”

On the Edge of Regret is a beautiful story by Kate Squires. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Squires, so I wasn’t really sure of what to expect going in. I didn’t know if she would be able to deliver on the promise held in the intriguing blurb. But, as I started to read I realised that I needn’t have worried because Ms. Squires delivered everything I had hoped for, and more.
This story is about second chances- with romance, emotions, drama, pain, loss, and grief. The story has wonderful tension, a little suspense, a twist or two, chemistry, tears and laughter. And, even though I had guessed what the major revelation/s were, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story as I zipped through the pages to find out if I had guessed right. The story is told in the form of flashbacks, as well as present day developments- and from duel points of view, so we get an insight into both main characters inner thoughts and feelings.
The author has a wonderful bold and descriptive style which worked really well with the detailed scene setting and emotive storyline. I was very quickly engrossed in what I was reading, investing in the characters and their story I zipped through the book in one sitting.
Brix Kelley is twenty-two years old and has a job as a writer at a magazine. Six years ago, her mother moved them away from their small country home town to the city. Brix left without saying goodbye to her friends or boyfriend, and hasn’t been back since. But now an unavoidable obligation has her back in town for a weekend, and she is a little apprehensive about how things will play out. She was part of a very close-knit group of friends, and the six years since she left hasn’t been easy- so being back in town again after all this time has flooded her with memories of the past, both good and bad.
Nash was a bit of a troubled teen, having an abusive father had Nash ‘acting out’ which got him in trouble with the law from time to time. Brix was the light in his life, the one thing he could count on to brighten his days- but when she left without even a backward glance, his world shattered. Now she is back and all the pain and anger he felt comes bubbling to the surface. Will he ever be able to forgive her? What happens when secrets are revealed? And what happens when an unexpected development threatens to unravel their newfound connection??
This story really is worth the read. I am happy I took the chance on this book and I will definitely be on the lookout for more of Ms. Squires work in the future.

Thank you, Ms. Squires!

On The Edge of Regret by Kate Squires is a romance, a little mystery and new adult book. I was pretty into it from the beginning. The author did a great job at holding my attention and her character development. Each character was well thought out and it was easy to like them. The lead Characters were Brix and Nash and I found myself rooting for them early on. A lot goes on in this book. A funeral is what brings Brix back into town and with it lots of changes. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I enjoyed it and thought it was well executed and written. I hate to be that vague review person but with so many things that happen you just need to read it yourself lol 4 star rating.

Loved the concept. Loved the beginning. Main issue- I felt like he forgave her to fast.... and the ending with the rape came out of nowhere. It all happened to fast.
Andddd no mention of ari in the epilogue?! So sad.

On the edge of regret by Kate Squires a four-star read that will leave you on the edge. Kate Squires is a great author I have loved her other books, I will be honest and admit this wasn’t a favourite of them all, but I think that’s me as I’ve struggled with a couple of books recently from authors I adore. The writing was as usual really great, the characters had great depths to them, they were people not just characters on a page, my only problem was Brix she seemed a little too all over the place, just when I got to grips with her there was something off about her that I couldn’t explain. There is plenty in this story that will keep you hooked, there is drama and second chance romance which is always a favourite of mine. There was more happening but I don’t want to give spoilers, all I will say is give this story a chance, Kate Squires is an author you need in your life. Your emotions will thank you for the work out they will get reading this story.

My first book by Kate Squires almost destroyed me.

Let that sink in for a moment because for a book to completely destroy me, it has to revert me to my childhood habits of hiding underneath my bed sheets for days on end with no lights at the end of the tunnel and that only happened once and i'm still cursing the author for that one. Kate Squires almost brought me back to that state.

On The Edge Of Regret was emotional. Heart wrenching. And hauntingly beautiful because it tells the story of all three with the second chance romance possibility between two high school lovers who were viciously separated by bad circumstances.

I'm not sure what to make of this story - i hate it for all the emotions i went through and i love it for all the same reasons. It's the type of book that you have to read at least once in your life to fully get the experience of what true love it and how far you'll go for it.

What happens when you go back to the town you came from, and meet your old life and love again? Will old wounds open, will there be anger? On the Edge of Regret tells the story of Brix, who left her hometown at 15, and now returns after an absence of six years. I’ve enjoyed reading this emotional story very much.
“He flips his hand over and slides his hand toward me so that our palms are touching. His fingers graze my wrist, then he gives my hand a squeeze. I smile at him, and he at me, and I know that all is forgiven…even if there’s more truth to discover.”

Brix is coming back home after six years, years without any contact with her friends and loved ones. She’s nervous, unsure what she’ll find, or how her old friends will react. She didn’t only leave her friends behind, but also a boy she loved with all her teenage heart. Nash was a mess after his Brix left without any explanation, one minute she was there, the next minute she was gone. Seeing each other is inevitable given the circumstances of Brix’s return, and both have to admit there’s still something between them.
“You’re not just some girl, and I’m not hoping it’ll work out, because I know it will. And second, it’s just a town, Brix. Home isn’t where you live, it’s who you live for.”

On the Edge of Regret is a standalone story, and tells the story of Brix and Nash. They have been friends forever, and their friendship turned into something more when they where teens. The first part of the story is told through Brix’s eyes, but in part two we see Nash’s POV as well. There’s a lot going in the book, but the main part is of course Brix and Nash finding their way back to each other.

Keeping secrets normally make me scream (in my head, not out loud), but in the case of Brix, not so much. She – and Nash – were still so very young, I fully understand her mom took over and made the decision to leave town. I love how Brix and Nash don’t fall into each other’s arms right away, that they take the time to rekindle their friendship first, before they take it to the next level. Besides the main couple there’s a set of great side characters, and I hope some of them will get their own story.
“I trace each letter of a 15-year-old boy’s declaration of love to his girlfriend, then I smile, feeling my heart swell with pride, as I remember how much it took to get us here.”

On the Edge of Regret by Kate Squires is a new adult romance story that is about second chances and forgiveness. This is not my first book by this author but is has become my favorite of hers yet. I had a hard time putting this book down. This author's writing style is easy flowing and engaging. Her attention to details made me feel like I was right there with the characters. Her characters are connectable and lovable. They will take you on some twists and turns that you won't see coming but will need to see what happens next. They also took me on an emotional roller coaster ride that I didn't want to get off of. This is the story of Brix. She left her hometown six years ago without a word to any of her friends or her boyfriend at the time. Now because of a tragic situation she is back. How will see be received by her friends? Still haunted by memories of her and Noah together six years ago, she takes us on a journey of discovery of things from the past. Everything seems to be going okay until secrets from the past seem to be rearing it ugly head. What will happen when the secrets are revealed? Just when her and Nash seemed to find each other again, there are other forces in play that may put a halt on their future. Are they strong enough to stand the test of secrets and these other forces? Really, is their bond strong enough to heal the past and move forward to the future? I enjoyed both of these characters. This book is told in both of their POV but I felt that this book is really about Brix and her journey of finding herself. She is a strong, smart, independent woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. She is determined and in my opinion in need of some healing. Nash is the typical bad boy and really mad at Brix for leaving without saying a word. She is the only woman he has ever loved but he can't seem to leave his past behind. Will his bad boy days be over will or will they leave him without a future? The secondary characters in this book are really supportive to them for the most part. I loved Aunt May as she just really made Brix see things differently when she was struggling. I highly recommend this book as I know you will want to see if Brix and Nash find their happy ending or if fate will play a different card for them.

This is my first read by this author and I cannot believe the emotional roller coaster she took me on.
I'm a fan!
Heavy, emotional and heart wrenching story of second chances healing and forgiveness.
I had a hard time reading this book it was so emotional, but I also had a hard time putting it down as I need to discover what would happen next.
The outcome was well worth the read!!
The writing was easy to follow although hard to swallow as this book tugged hard at your emotions.
The story of Brix and Nash began when they were high school sweethearts and best friends. Soulmates if you will. But tragic circumstances forced Brix to move away without any explanation. It was tragedy that also brought her back to her old town. Inevitably she saw Nash and not only does he want answers he wants a second chance.
This is as far as I'm going regarding what happens.
How far are you willing to open old wounds for an old flame?
Are you willing to spill your deepest darkest secrets for love?
Despite the fact that this is a story of second chance romance, this is Brix's journey and her story of healing despite the odds.
She made poor choices and decisions that had me frustrated, and scratching me head. Characters are not meant to be always liked at least not by me, but the emotions invoked is one of the reasons why the story was unique and appealing to me.

Heartache. This is the first word that comes to my mind when I think about this lovely small town story. Heartache and then hope and then some more heartache. I just couldn't get a break, neither me nor our main characters. And I cried, a lot, so get your tissues close by because they will be your besties for a while.
Mature characters who had to deal with too much during their youth and even in their "adult" life. I never once believed their were in the twenties. I got frustrated at times with Brix shouting at her to just go for what she wants and to stop being so dramatic but I never thought that her past held her back so much and for so sad reasons. Nash is the perfect bad boy, rough around the edges but so romantic. I guess with bad boys it's hard to get their heart but once it's yours...is forever. Their love story is not easy, it's messy and ugly sometimes but god it's so worth it when you have someone like Nash who is pushing just the right buttons.
If a novella or even a book was not released yet with the childhood of the six devils Kate really should give it a serious thought. I would love to get back in time and a bigger glimpse of them as children and teens.

I give 5 stars to On the edge of regret written by Kate Squires.

This book is a first for me from this author, and what a brilliant recommendation I really enjoyed this book.

Brix Kelley was your typical small town child, covered in mud and scraped knees, and five friends that was until she turned 15 and moved away. Now years later she needs to return home, but is unsure of the response she will receive as she cut all five friend's out of her life.

Nash Cooper is the trouble the still lives in the small town, never too far from all the disruption and always first call for the local law. Having been such close friends in their childhood a spark was light by their teens, but now after all Brix did he's just angry. And it's all pointed at her.

I absolutely loved reading this story and following their story once you think it's going to be ok then bam there's a twist and turn. Could not put the book down until I knew the ending.

This is my first book by Kate Squires and I really enjoyed it. Getting to know these characters was fun.

Five school friends getting together for the first time in six years, finding out how they'd changed and grown up and all the secrets that we discover on the way makes for a very emotional and eventful story. I was pulled in to their little world of feelings and mixed up emotions of how Brix left everyone, particularly Nash! Poor sexy Nash, when she just upped and left them suddenly one night at the age of fifteen. The characters are relatable and I was with them throughout their exciting and traumatic times.

I shed a few tears and laughed at some of their antics. This story is well written and keeps you reading to find out how they get along and has you rooting for the rekindling of Brix and Nash's relationship.

This is the story of going home again and discovering that for as much as things change, things also remain the same.

This is the story of first love and first friendships and growing up and apart.

This is the story that had me yearning for the group of friends who influenced my life when I was a kid and another group from my 20s.

The story has a nice flow to it and the characters are quickly developed. It was funny and sad and nostalgic all at the same time. There was a bit of suspense that moved the story along.

It was an enjoyable read.

Too much

I loved the fact of the second chance romance between Nash and Brix. I loved the secondary characters, Hannah and Eli. When the secret of why Brix left her friends and young love Nash behind,I was sympathetic and understood. What changed for me in this book was another secret, then a drama situation ending with another secret. It was a little too much. If the book had just focused on the first secret of why Brix left and had not kept adding additional drama it would have been much better. The epilogue left questions what did both characters end up doing for careers ? Just OK for me. First half of book great

Overall I really liked this love story of second chances and twists and turns. I would have liked to have more clues early on about Brix’s secrets, but by 25% I was hooked! I liked the reminiscing moments and small town vibe. It was a little hard to believe Brix and Hannah still considered each other to be best friends after that much time, but I was glad they had each other. I will definitely keep Kate Squires in mind for future reads.

A story of childhood friends, first loves and second chances. Brix returns 6 years after leaving her small town- we journey thru the struggles of friendship, love, loss and forgiveness. A good mixture of emotions felt thru out. With the secrets we discover along the way - the grief and guilt, trying to find peace, you can't help loving Nash and Brix. An engaging read.

“Home isn't where you live, it’s who you live for.”

If you crave an angsty New Adult Romance with #AlltheFeels then ON THE EDGE OF REGRET by Kate Squires is going to hit your sweet spot!

THE STORY:
This emotionally wrenching second chance romance, set in the picturesque small town of Ashton Falls, NC, is centered on former teenage sweethearts Nash Cooper and Brix Kelley. The rebellious bad boy and kind hearted good girl were once hopelessly in love, until one day, at the age of 15, Brix leaves town without a word of explanation, shattering Nash’s heart in the process.

Fast forward 6 years later. Brix is back for the funeral of one of her childhood chums, Trent, unsure of the reception she will receive from her close knit circle of childhood friends after staying away all these years. Bracing herself to face the music, and the wrath of the dejected ex-boyfriend she left behind, she is unprepared for the onslaught of emotions—and the smoldering attraction--she would feel when she and Nash finally cross paths again.

Nash is still as ruggedly handsome as ever but he is colder. Harder. And much more closed off. Still feeling angry and betrayed, he lashes out at Brix, making her feel unwelcome and unwanted in the town she once called home. But as much as this broody bad boy with the huge chip on his shoulder wants to push her away, he cannot help but soften toward her. And when finds out she is promised to another, he steps up his game and vows to reclaim the girl that he never stopped loving. But can they ever get past the festering hurts and devastating secrets between them?

MY THOUGHTS:
Omg…the LOVE! The LONGING! The HEARTBREAK! The DRAMA! The LAUGHTER! The TEARS! Kate Squired pulls you right into the hearts and minds and souls of those characters with so much depth and raw, guttural emotion it left me reeling! This author brilliantly captured the bittersweet poignancy and heartbreak of first love, of hope lost and found again, and this novel truly embodies everything I relish in an angsty second chance romance!

Ahhh what can I say shot Nash and Brix? They are a couple to ROOT FOR and REVEL IN! This duo has so much chemistry I can feel the sparks flying off the page! I absolutely loved their quick-witted banter and couldn’t help but giggle when they would push each other's buttons in their fiery battle of wills. But despite all the pain and hurt they have inflicted on one another, their all-consuming love could not be denied!

Nash is such a DELICIOUS hero! There’s just something about this cocky bad boy with those ice blue eyes, and that sexy smirk, that I found irresistible. And even when he was being a rude, hot-tempered jerk I could not help but swoon!! I just loved how possessive and jealous he got around Brix and thought it was hysterical how he kept calling her annoying boyfriend BJ! But there is much more to him than meets the eye. Nash has not had an easy life, and when she abandoned him, he spiraled downward. Reconnecting with Brix gives him renewed hope for his future and when he lowers his guard and his sweeter, more chivalrous side emerges, prepare to MELT!!!

As for Brix, she is sweet and sassy, kind and compassionate but also achingly flawed. Leaving Nash and her besties behind was one of the hardest things she ever had to do and the heavy burden she’s carried all these years has taken its toll. When there is hope of rekindling her relationship with Nash, she is facing quite a dilemma because she had moved on—without him— and Ashton Falls holds painful memories that continue to haunt her.

There is much healing and restitution to be done for them both and their journey to reconciliation is NOT easy. Prepare for heart clenching feels from start to finish, and some SHOCKING plot twists along the way, but the sigh-worthy ending is well worth the struggle! !

All in all, I thought this was a fantastic read—I enjoyed the small town flavor of this book, the plot flowed seamlessly and the supporting players were wonderfully woven into the fabric of the story. (Hannah’s plight just gutted me and Aunt May was a hoot!) But I do have a couple of small quibbles pertaining to the plot/execution…

First, I wish we had more of Nash’s POV in the first half (we don’t get his perspective till chapter 11) so readers would have his side of the story sooner. And while I felt his initial reaction to Brix’s first big bombshell revelation was riveting, I think he forgave her a bit too quickly. After all that palpable buildup, I expected more explosive fireworks but that kind of fizzled out for me. However, those two quibbles aside, I was hooked by this book from start to finish and HIGHLY recommend it!

BOTTOM LINE:
ON THE EDGE OF REGRET is a profoundly moving tale about love and loss, friendship and forgiveness, hope and healing, and reclaiming a piece of your heart that you thought was forever out of reach!

What a wonderfully written book with a storyline that captures you from the beginning and holds you captive till the very end. A story about childhood friends, first loves, secrets and fears. The characters all meet again after Brix has been gone for 6 years, for the funeral of one of their own. Some are welcoming and warm upon her return, one is not so warm. Nash was her first love and she his, then she just up and left town, never to be heard from again until she arrives for Trey's funeral. The road to forgiveness and redemption for these two is a hard one, but the powers that be make sure to put them together as often as possible so that they are alone to talk things through, more than once. Needless to say, as it is with secrets, they are never meant to remain hidden.

I loved these characters. They are just what you would expect of children growning up in a small town who have known each other all of their lives. They have been through and did everything together. They were friends and would do anything for each other. Nash was the bad boy of their group. Cute with beautiful blue eyes, he always seemed to find himself in trouble. Nash had a hard start in life because of his abusive father and then the death of his mother. With no other family he quit school and went to work for his friend Eli's father working on cars and welding. Nash was also the love of young Brix's life. She was sassy, beautiful, smart and loved Nash with all of her heart. Her sudden departure from their home town left Nash broken. She never said she was leaving and never said goodbye. So if he was bitter when she returned, she felt she deserved it.

This story flowed effortlessly and although there were multiple characters engaging in this story, you never got lost in it. Everything that was brought up or that was done was right in line with the story, bringing in the supporting characters as they were needed and everyone stayed on script. The story had a bid of everything in it from nastalgia to drama, laughter to tears, happiness to anger, love and fights.

I adored this book and I highly recommend this book to everyone!

On a the Edge of Regret By Kate Squires

On The Edge of Regret By Kate Squires  is an amazing story about second chances and even forgiveness. This is my first book by this author and I can honestly say that it won't be my last. I absolutely love her style of writing and her ability to grab your attention from the beginning and keep it till the end. This story just flowed well and before I realized I was reading the last page, but wanted more.I love these characters  they are very connectable. They definitely take you on one heck of an emotional roller-coaster ride. There are even a few twists and turns  that left me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. This story even tugged at my heart strings a couple of times. This story is about  Brix.Brix and her mom left their hometown six years ago ,bad part is  Brix didn't get to say goodbye to any of her friends or boyfriend at that time. Now six years later she's returning to her hometown because of a tragic situation.Shes worried how people  (friends ) are going to react to her showing up after all this time. Then there's Nash,he was her boyfriend back then and he didn't take her leaving so well.Be prepared for a journey of discovering things from their past.Secrets have a way of coming out when things are going well . what happens when these secrets are revealed? These two are just finding each other again but will other forces keep them apart ?Can they make it  through the secrets and still have a future together? I loved Brix's character and her strength to go through everything she goes through. She's strong and smart, and knows exactly what she wants.Nash is a bad boy and is very unhappy with Brix and her decision all those years ago, he can't seem to let go,she is the only woman he's ever been in love with. Can  Nash leave the bad boy days behind him?I was rooting for these two and praying they get their HEA.Question is do they get their Happily ever after? I highly recommend you read this book especially if you want to find out the answer to not only that question but the others as well.I can't wait to read more from this author.

Had potential but the execution was poor. Everything-but-the-kitchen-sink, overdone drama. The writer needs to pick one conflict and one twist and stick with them, and refrain from stacking on three or four more bombshells. There was no inkling before another issue was dropped in and they came almost like an afterthought, like the writer thought 'OH! This sounds good! Let's just add it, ' without considering whether it fit. There was no cohesion and it was all very soap-opera-ish, the drama carried out by characters who talked and behaved like high-school kids. The dialogue was unnatural and often immature. I felt no connection between the lead characters and saw no reason why I should care about them. Both heroine and hero were rather one-dimensional and hard to get a read on. Character definition was unorganised, personalities were difficult to suss out and responses and behaviour were unpredictable and not true to form. The emotion that should have been there wasn't, particularly from the heroine who I found devoid of personality. Her actions and behaviour never made much sense. In addition, she was remarkably selfish and did a rather unkind thing to the hero, and her cavalier attitude about it made me dislike her.

This story was strange. There was potential, and the editing was decent with few glaring errors. But the writing was riddled with rookie mistakes and plot-device overkill, so I thought the book must have been a writer debut. I was shocked to see she's published a half-dozen others. If she hasn't learned by now to streamline her plots, there is little chance I will revisit her work.
The blurb was right up my alley and I wanted to love this, but got frustrated with the heroine and trying to guess her motivations. I'm all for a little build-up, but too often I couldn't figure out what was going on. Eventually I got bored and began to skim through parts of it. You can only heap so much on people before it just becomes silly.

I rated it two stars. I didn't so much hate it as I was underwhelmed. I would expect someone who'd done this a while to be able to produce a tighter, better conceived effort, but not so much the case here.

On The Edge Of Regret
By: Kate Squires
4 out of 5 stars.

On The Edge Of Regret by Kate Squires was all that I hoped it would be when I read the blurb of this book. A second chance romance story with a mix of mystery will have you engage from the first page till the end. Kate has written a beautiful, heartfelt and emotional story. A story on healing and forgiveness and giving love a second chance. The characters are all well developed and not complicated to follow in the story due to a full cast. Kate pulled me in and had me on The Edge Of my seat to know the secret and pain Brix was hiding from.
The death of a friend has Brix returning to her hometown that she mysteriously left six years ago. Brix is hesitant about returning not sure of the response of her five friend that is still there. She is also scared of the respond they will have because of a story she wrote on her friends. The return home is bittersweet for Brix. She is welcomed back from all but Nash.
Nash is the town bad boy. He was hurt the most by Brix leaving and isn’t happy to see her return. He wants answers to why she left without telling him why and why he hasn’t heard from her these past years. Brix doesn’t want to share the circumstance that caused her to leave Nash behind. Nash isn’t giving up he wants answers. A favor for a friend have them spending time together and feeling emotions that time has not killed.
What happened to make Brix leave Nash and her friends, and the life she knew behind? Can Brix heal from the past and can Nash forgive her or will they live their lives on the edge of Regret! A must read. Kate Squires has a new book fan. On The Edge Of Regret is wonderfully written. A heartwarming story that consumes you and takes you on a roller coaster ride with Brix and Nash. I love the other characters involved in this story. I highly recommend this book.

**Received ARC for a fair and honest review**
I've got to say this is probably one of the most difficult books I've read to put a number on for a review, if I have to it's somewhere between a 3 and a 4 and the only reason I say 4 is the ending brought it up. This is a second chance story that had way too many secrets/plot twists come up for my tastes. When you first meet the characters Brix is going back to where she's originally from Ashton Falls for a friends funeral. She moved away when she was 15 and left all her friends and boyfriend Nash Cooper without a backward glance. Fast forward 6 years later she comes back for her friend Trey's funeral. The she see's her old boyfriend, but she's moved on and is now a writer at a magazine and her boyfriend PJ/Percy comes from money. Not giving any more away.
I really struggled with Brix's character, she felt very whiny, indecisive and immature to me. As I said there were too many secrets that kept popping up/plot twists that really detracted from the book. There was also a lot of unnecessary information that prolonged the book that if removed could have made the book better. At first I wasn't a fan of Brix and Nash together but late into the book you see her character change and grow and my opinion changed. I felt like they were trying to make Nash into an alpha sort of guy, which sort of fell short, again too young, hotheaded and not in a good way and immature to pull it off. The ending of the book I very much enjoyed. One thing I've been noticing a trend of lately is the couple gets together and the story just ends. The author gives you more then just a stilted ending and you see the HEA which I did enjoy. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!

Brix Kelley grew up as a small town girl with scraped knees and dirty fingernails. Nash Cooper was the bad boy of the town who was in trouble with the law most of his life. They were friends their whole life, and that friendship turned into love. But when she was 15 years old, she left town suddenly, cutting off all contact with all of her friends, even Nash. Six years later, a tragic event brings her home, and she's worried about reception she will receive. Coming face to face with Nash, Brix finds him as rebellious as ever, but all of his anger is aimed towards her. But as they finally seem to start wading through the resentment, long buried secrets start to come out, causing more hurt. Is the love they had as teens stand strong enough as adults to hold them together? On the Edge of Regret was a story that I enjoyed a great deal. At first, and this is only MY OPINION, it took me a bit to become immersed into the story, as it seemed a bit too cryptic. But once I did, I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. Brix was a complicated heroine, as her push & pull was a bit frustrating at times, because it was evident that she never stopped loving Nash, but she was determined not to give into the possibility of a second chance. Then Nash, was a bit frustrating himself at times, as he would run when his emotions got the better of him. But that doesn't change the fact that I wanted them together badly the whole time. And the colorful cast of secondaries added in a humorous aspect as they gave me a break from the angst by making me laugh. Add in the twists around every corner of secrets that are revealed to keep f-bombs dropping, and it's a page turner from the talented Kate Squires. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

On the Edge of Regret is about Brix Kelley who returns to her small town start after having leaving abruptly 7 years earlier at age 15. She never said goodbye to her friends or especially Nash Cooper, her boyfriend. She is back in town for the funeral of their shared friend, Trey. Some are happy to see her, some are not.

My first Kate Squires read was When Love Breaks and it's second part, When Love Walks. Both are exceptional reads, with in-depth character development and a gripping storyline. I was looking forward to the same in On the Edge of Regret but it fell a bit short. Both leads, Brix and Nash are complicated people with a lot of drama swirling around both. Brix and her mother's reason for leaving in the middle of the night are a mystery, one Brix will not speak about and her friends seem okay with not getting answers to. Brix seems to flounder between being a confident, young woman and a scared teenager. Nash is described as the bad boy, always in trouble with the law because of his home life but what exactly that was is not explained until way later. Because of that, I had a hard time connecting with him.

The story itself have a lot going on. A LOT. I don't want to add spoilers but some are: secrets (deep and traumatizing), jealous friends, spiteful sheriffs, matchmaking aunts, spiteful boyfriends, etc. I was reading and kept thinking that I was getting to the climax of the "happenings" but they just kept coming while the base story of Nash and Brix and their reunion took a backseat.

Overall, this is a good read about second chances, learning from your mistakes and taking on the future with an open heart.

On the Edge of Regret
By Kate Squires
5/5

On the Edge of Regret by Kate Squires is an adult contemporary romance novel, you’ll absolutely love and will NOT be able to put down!
This is my first novel by this author and it won’t be by last either! I love how she writes about these characters. They are almost real, like they can be your friends . You can definitely relate to them in some sort of way!! Each character, is beautifully flawed in their own way. Just like we are , now!
Brix is from a small town, where nothing ever changes and nothing exciting ever happens. But one day, something changes her life forever. And she leave her life behind along with her dear friends; Hannah,Nash, Justin,Eli and Trey.
But six years later, she finds herself back in the small town, where she grew up. She is worried if her friends will talk to her, But most of all Nash...she is wondering how he’ll respond to her being back. She has loved him as long as she can remember. But is the love still there? Will love be enough? Will they be able to find their way back to one another? Even when the universe is trying to tear them apart?
You have to read this book, to see the journey they take you on. It is full of unexpected twists and turns, it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. But most importantly, it’s full of love!! You can feel how much they love each other! Love, it’s such a beautiful feeling!
Great job, Kate! I’m looking forward to reading more from you in the future! And p.s. I hope this isn’t the end we hear from these characters! I would love to hear more about them in the future!

On the Edge of Regret by Kate Squires

5 Stars

Oh my!! This is my first book by this author and will definitely not be my last, I've already looked at everything she has available and can't wait to read them all.

The storyline in this book was awesome and had me wrapped from page 1 when we met Larry the Aloe plant, I knew from that alone that I was going to love everything about this story.

Brix is on her way back to the small town she used to call home after being whisked away 6 years ago at the age of 15 by her mom and Brix never saying goodbye to the close knit group of friends she grew up with, this included Nash, who at that time was the love of her life. One of the group of friends has passed away and she is going home to attend the funeral not having any idea how her returning to Ashton Falls will be received by those she was close to yet disappeared from without a word.

Nash has lived the last 6 years angry and confused and isn't quite sure how to react to seeing Brix after all this time, and then as the truth from the past starts revealing itself, will this just add to his anger and confusion?

There are a few twists to this story that I didn't see coming, I had some suspicions of the first twist but not how it played out and the last one totally threw me off, this author did an amazing job with how she handled these and had me “on the edge” of my seat through this whole book.

I Loved It and hated when it ended, the characters in this story were awesome, and I loved how just enough of the past was given in little snippets throughout not lasting so long that I forgot where i was in the story.

Awesome Book!!

On the Edge of Regret By Kate Squires 5 Stars

This book had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! This was my first book by this author. I will definitely read more books by Kate Squires. I could feel the raw emotions of the characters. Her writing felt real. The characters she has developed in her story are true to life. Brix Kelley is a girl who grew up in a small town, but taken away as a teenager and moved hours away from everyone and everything she ever knew. Her mom had a hand in keeping secrets and as a teen, Brix went with it. She was young and naive and thought her mom was looking out for her best interest. As any parent, Brix's mom did what she thought was the best for her daughter. The thing is, secrets always come out and don't always have the outcome that is expected. Moving on with her life after not saying goodbye to her closest friends, she wrote a short and exaggerated story about her life in a small town. She never expected to go back. Tragedy struck six years after leaving and Brix finds herself driving back to the town that holds her memories and her heart. Her high school sweetheart gives her a cold angry homecoming. Nash is still broken and hurt about the way she left. He can't figure out if what he feels for her is hatred or love.

This is a great story about second chances and hidden secrets. I would highly recommend reading this book! It has so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming! Well worth reading! I can't wait to read more by Kate Squires and have already put more of her books on my TBR list!

On the Edge of Regret was a great 5 star read.
This is my first read from Kate Squires and I was an emotional wreck, crying several times.

Brix is returning home for a friend's funeral. It has been years since she left without a word and she’s not sure how welcoming everyone will be. As soon as she gets there she realizes just how much she has missed the small town feel.

Her aunt is very welcoming however when she runs into someone at the supermarket she gets a glimpse at what she just might see from others. She is ready to leave town again but her aunt talks her into staying.

While at the funeral she comes face-to-face with Nash and everything comes rushing back to her. Nash wants nothing to do with her and barely speaks to her. Will she be able to get him to talk to her and understand why she left?

Nash was heartbroken when Brix left, she was the one thing that made him happy. He didn’t have a great home life and was always getting into trouble. When he saw Brix at the funeral all of the pain and anger came rushing back. Can they possibly get another chance? Or will unexpected twists and secrets cause more issues?

There is so much more to this great read, secrets are revealed and we have some big twists. I really liked Brix’s aunt, she could always talk sense into Brix and give her great advice. All the other secondary characters were great as well. I really enjoyed this second chance romance and I look forward to reading more from this author. She did a great job of pulling me right in and I couldn’t wait to see what was coming next. If you're looking for a great read than this is the book for you. Have the kleenex handy.

Brix left town with her mother when she was just 15/16 years old, without so much as an explanation or a goodbye. 6 years later, she returns to town for the funeral of one of her closest childhood friends. But when she returns, it's with loads of anxiety over how people will feel about her being back in town. Some are over the moon, while others are not.

It takes place in NC, which I love because I've lived in NC for most of my life. The way Kate describes the small town of Ashton Falls is on point. The way people behave and interact with one another, and the closeness of the community is pretty much what small towns in NC are like.

I love a second chance romance, and this one didn't disappoint. I found myself torn though; between her returning to Charlotte to marry her new man, and staying in Ashton Falls to be with Nash, who was her boyfriend before she disappeared.

There was a lot of info to take in. Secrets are revealed, emotions run high, twists and turns all around, and big bombs dropped when you didn't expect them. It definitely kept me interested.

The only issue was that it was a little slow to start. I wasn't hooked immediately like I was with her previous two works, When Love Breaks and When Love Walks (which I absolutely loved as well). And I didn't quite connect with Brix the way I had wanted, but she was still a good character and I did see growth as the story went on.

Overall, On the Edge of Regret was another fantastic read by Kate Squires. Wasn't my first; won't be my last. She is definitely an author I recommend.
