One death, one pledge, one price to pay!

There’s nothing better than a walk amongst the trees with the man I love. So, how dare someone disrespect the sanctity of life and my forest along with it!

With the body of a murdered young man placed at my feet, there’s not a chance on Earth, I’m not using all the power at my disposal to find the killer. Even if that means I have to put on hold my quest to discover the magical curse that plagues my family.

I’ll fight to the end to discover the truth, but what do I do when the man I love wants to fight for me?

I’m a pawn in a game I’m only just beginning to comprehend, but I’m not the only one.

Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed will love this modern take on witchcraft and Welsh mythology.

The second installment in the truly engaging Rune witch mysteries. This time Summer Daniels and her long-time boyfriend Thomas Heart must investigate the murder of an actual human, Lee Page. (In TAKEN it is the murder of a house fay that sparks the story.)

Summer and Thomas must navigate a world of Fair Folk, gnomes, goblins, and trolls. Summer finds herself having to use her magic and witching skills to the fullest extent as the road to the finale gets more dangerous.

I liked this instalment just as much as the first. Victoria's writing style is clean and easy to read, and the plot unravels fast. Descriptions are great and Cardiff comes alive and breathing, especially at night as the supernaturals come out.

The only thing that didn't go too well for me was the weaving in of the family curse subplot into the story, which I didn't feel was needed.

That said, I still was able to enjoy the read.

Magic rules

An excellent, short, magic based thriller featuring impressive Welsh witch, Summer Daniels. This time she is searching for a killer. Join her in a world of goblins, fairies trolls and gnome.

My actual rating 3.8

Thomas and Summer discover a body in the forest just outside their home. Of course they have to investigate especially since the authorities suspect them as being the murderers. Their snooping leads to a magical underground fighting pit and they are caught in a magical promise they can’t refuse so Thomas is forced to fight a goblin. How it ends is something you will have to find out for yourself. At any rate, I love how Thomas and Summer play off of one another to solve a mystery. They have total trust and confidence in one another. Very refreshing.

I loved this story. The storyline was fantastic and intriguing and the characters were engaging and interesting. I loved the way Thomas and Summer went about solving the death of the young man, Lee Page, it was surprising who the bad guy was. I hope there is more to follow in the series and hopefully an answer to the curse. A wonderful story and a big thank you to Victoria DeLuis.

While I enjoyed the story, it felt almost bland compared to book one. I'll finish the series but I don't think I'll be in any hurry to do so.

I liked this book even more than the first! It is a cozy mystery, but it has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. I like how strong Thomas and Summer are as a team. They know that their bond is strong and it helps them throughout the case. When a dead body shows up in Summer’s forest one day, she and Thomas are sent on a whirlwind chase for a killer. Is it an old enemy, a new entity or the family curse coming to take them out? We learn lots of interesting things and meet some pretty great characters. I loved the ending and can’t wait to see how prominent the curse is in book three!

I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance suspense stories. They are fast stories and great reads.

I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. -Though I did buy myself my own copy.

I love going back to the forest and seeing what Thomas and Summer have been up to. I LOVE their relationship. No doubts, total trust and a fierce love. Thomas knows Summer like a favorite book. After finding the dead human body in the forest by their house, Summer can't just walk away. It doesn't take long before a supernatural element is discovered concerning the murder. They also get a reminder that the fae cannot be trusted when they make a deal for information. Thomas may not be a paranormal, but he can definitely hold his own when necessary. I was so excited at the ending and it left me with such an upbeat feeling for a while after I finished. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Act 2-building up

Book 2 of the Rune Witch Series, by Victoria DeLuis, picks up on the story with Summer and Thomas making a home in the cottage. Throughout the story there are touches on the mysterious curse but this book’s theme is to solve a murder. I liked the development of Thomas in this book and would be interested in his point of view as a human dealing with the supernatural. Overall, well written but keep in mind that the four book series focuses on the curse and hooks into the next book are expected.

I would say 3 stars overall for this book but I have a feeling the series will be a 4-5 Star rating overall.

Another exciting chapter

I love this series, especially its use of Welsh mythology and I love the rune tattoos that are the basis for Summer's magic. This installment has our heroes investigating the death of a young man dumped in her forest and goes more deeply into the relationship between her and Thomas. Great fun.

Wonderful book with well developed characters and a good storyline. It could be read as a stand-alone, but is much richer if you have read the first book in the series so you get all the references.

I adore Victoria DeLuis. This was a good continuation from the first book, Taken. Summer and Thomas are taking a lovely stroll through the forest, next to their beautiful cottage. It couldn’t be more romantic… well, actually it could. During their romantic stroll, they come across a dead body. While they aren’t responsible, they do feel a sense of obligation to help find out what happened. Can Summer and Thomas find out what happened to the young man, without becoming a pawn in a game that seems impossible to win? Can Summer and Thomas solve the mystery that is Summer’s familial curse before it’s too late?

It was great catching up with Summer and Thomas! Seeing them fall more and more in love with each other… sigh. With a curse looming over Summer’s head, she’s strong enough to set that aside and give a mother closure. This book was slightly longer than the first book, but it didn’t feel like it. The story is well told and the main characters are easy to get attached to. And, we get a surprise visit. Will it be the answer to all of Summer’s questions? Stay tuned to find out! I know I intend to!

If you liked Summer Daniels' first outing in the Rune Witch Mysteries there's plenty here to like.

Summer's angsting over her family curse, Thomas is desperate to distract her... And then a body turns up in their forest. A human boy with no hint of the supernatural about his death, Summer's not willing to take the case until persuaded otherwise by her beloved partner in PI-ing, and the obnoxious police inspector determined to pin the blame on them. Turns out murder is quite the distraction.

It reads like a supernatural crime drama procedural TV show episode, so don't expect anything too deep. There are references to part one, and we also get some more info on the whole witchy world of Ogham and the other supernatural beings lurking around Cardiff city centre.

Summer's focus on the unknown family curse that no one will tell her about and sidelining into describing her romantic relationship could feel a little awkwardly done and repetitive (some of the dialogue especially felt unnatural - who asks about their partner's "insatiable libido"?) There's also some grammatical issues - questions without question marks are everywhere (but oddly not all the time). The story itself does repeat themes a lot, what with most of the action involving the clubbing scene, and the resolution felt a bit easily come by after the amount of time spent getting to it.

Still, it's interesting enough as a non-American urban fantasy with a heroine in a stable, loving relationship (never underestimate the power of coupledom!) I wish there could be a bit more depth to the world and focus to the plot, but I liked the story and would read the next episode to find out more.

kindle unlimited, usually try to give writer extra pennies, in this case it would be doing kindle unlimited run on both the single stories, but it totally was not worth it, in fact one of the 'wish could give it a minus1 or minus 5 even', gaps in words thought it was reader, changed font etc, nope just missing words and sentences, and then trying to claim brit speak when not even close nor consistent, topping it off with total contradiction of fair oath for no humans to get hurt, switching oath to the guy, who then gets hurt, and other totally wrong aspects of 'story' including all that and STILL not getting to part about curse, not until tries to sucker in for book 3, so wouldn't happen, crap hormonal stuff it in every other sentence for no reason garbage, try doing actual plot, coherent one.

Read this as part of the 1-2 book set, this being book 2, so bad made sure to review it as single books, so bad no way bothering with book 3.
