In Heir Force, Kate Langston faces her biggest challenge yet, and it has nothing to do with the military.
Kate is ready to settle down and marry her Active Duty boyfriend, but then tragedy strikes, ending her dream. When a secret is revealed that rocks her world, she has a hard time accepting the results.
Read her story about how she copes with the many changes that take place in her life, and her heart.
Michelle Connell asked for a typewriter when she was two. She didn't get one. But she learned to read when she was four and started writing stories shortly after.
She loves to read and write and has been working on her own novels since her writing group asked her to try NaNoWriMo. She thought they were crazy at the time, but now thanks them as she has several novels of her own in the works. She co-wrote a book of prompts with her writing group, called Prompted to Write.
Now her debut contemporary romance is out, Cookie Encounter: a Chance Encounter Inspirational Romance. Her military inspirational romance, Heir Force, came out in 2017. Her next chance encounter story comes out in March 2020.
Heir Force gives us a peek inside life at a stateside military base and introduces us to an adorable little girl and a sweet love story. Connell takes her heroine Kate through a lot of tough stuff but on the other side of the journey is a gentle reminder that God is with us and loves us in spite of ourselves.
In thinking about the characters, first I have to say that Kate’s boyfriend John needs a good purse whomping. I’m not going to give away spoilers, so that’s really all I can say about it … but if I could talk to him in real life (were such a thing possible) he and I would have some words. Spencer, however, more than makes up for John’s thoughtless behavior. Spencer is a solid guy, with a big heart and integrity. He’s also been in love with Kate for a long time. If you think that will make for some delicious tension and simmering romantical emotions, you think correctly! Kate is a relatable heroine who struggles to accept the reality of God’s love but wants to do the right thing. Her journey is Sarah is an absolutely adorable little girl who will quickly steal your heart – the kind of character you want to reach inside the pages and hug.
Bottom Line: Heir Force is a sweet story of friendship, romance and trusting God when life throws you a curveball. Some of the mechanics need a little work – there are a lot of unnecessary details that bog down the flow of the story in several places and there is a lot more telling than showing the reader. Still, in spite of these bumps (which could be a matter of personal preference on my part and not bother you at all), the message is tenderly drawn and readers will definitely care about Kate and Spencer and how their story turns out. There are also a lot of secondary and even tertiary characters that seem to have their own stories to tell, should the author be so inclined! (Hint, hint lol)

Kate is in love with John and works with him on the air force base. But when she receives devastating news, she's left alone to pick up the pieces of her life. Secrets come out that makes her question everything. Her friend Spencer is a huge help and while Kate is just friends, Spencer is hoping for more.
The author did a good job of creating believable and likable characters. I liked how she brought inspiration and some thought provoking moments into the story. But the negatives, sadly, outweighed the positives for me. I had a hard time getting into the story, there wasn't enough of a pull. Because I was reading this to review, I read the entire book, but I wouldn't have, had I been just reading it. It just didn't grab me. The author has a good base, but really needs to do some editing to make it flow better and not come across as stilted. The story was told and not shown to the reader. There is a lot of unnecessary things that can be taken out to make it flow better and not bog down the reader. I think there is potential here, but it needs some serious polishing before it will become a great read.
I received a copy of this book from Goodreads. All thoughts expressed are my own.
I received a copy of this book from this author. I was not required to give a favorable review. This was another wonderful story from Michelle. I love how she has such insight how the military work, as she is a spouse of one. But having the primary characters in this story all be in the Air Force made it a lot more interesting. Kate was dating John, and they were friends with Spencer, Jen, Kelly and Andrew who all worked at the base together. When John gets deployed he left without actually telling Kate a couple of things, one that he loved her and other he has a daughter. When he is killed she find outs that she is going to be a mother of a 2 year old, because he left her as guardian in his will, and the little girls mother died from Cancer not long before he did. Now this is the story on how Spencer steps up and helps his best friends girl get a little girls settled with everything new and be able to finally tell her he has cared for her but he didn't get to before John stepped in. It makes you laugh, cry, and feel all the emotions of bringing love to a little girl and finding your way around. Thank you for another wonderful novel.
Scott AFB, IL. 375th Air Mobility Wing. Security Forces Squadron (SFS). Kate Nicole Langston (USAF), had enough of Ruth Vandervort (USAF, unpleasant co-worker, John’s ex-GF) for the day. Kate, John Kern (Kate’s BF, USAF), Spencer Coleman (USAF, John’s BMF), & Andrew were enjoying their evening cookout then a game Trivial Pursuit. Lieutenant Thompson (USAF, supervisor) wanted to talk to Kate about the office rumors he had been hearing.
John had been deployed to Iraq & Kate had been transferred. Lieutenant Thompson informed Kate her Permanent Change of Station (PCS) would be Germany (435th Security Forces Squadron). Once again Lieutenant Thompson called Kate into his office. This time it was not good news John (Airman) had been KIA. Major Connors saw to it that all the funeral/burial services in MN. were in order. Kate also found out she was going to be a mother. Later Kate was giving a letter that was way past dated/due to her. Spencer Kennel (O’Fallon), went with Kate when she went to meet with Mr. Miller (director) & Mr. Carson. Kate was now the legal guardian of Sarah Kern/Warner. Will Kate every get married again. How will Sarah’s future turn out?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.
A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. A very well written Military Romance book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Military Romance movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

A short love story that brings reality and the military to the forefront. Most of this novel I really enjoyed however I was waiting to be moved emotionally and it didn’t happen. The plot gave plenty of opportunity; death of a parent, cancer in another, secrets, love and a blizzard. It seemed that the skeleton structure and some details were included but not enough to get really connected to the characters and therefore the story. There was nobody to dislike which made all the characters more of the same. As much as I want to root for this book, I can only give it three stars. Thank you Voracious Readers Only for the complimentary copy.

I really enjoyed this book. The heartwarming story was nicely paced with likeable characters and plenty of drama. The fact that the main characters worked on a military air force base was interesting to read about as it was something new to me. I loved the way the story, and the romance between Kate and Spencer, unfolded naturally. A satisfying read.
I loved this story. The situations of military life were realistic. The characters and issues highly believable. Inspirational. I can't say too much without giving away the story so I will just say I couldn't put it down and I loved it!
The premise of this book really bothered me, I don't know how else to put it. I read it through my dismay, but found the later part of the book enjoyable and readable. I just can't get past the beginning and the presumptions that were made.
What a sweet love story!! So sad on one hand and yet so sweet on the other. Sarah is a little sweetheart and Buttons, wow!!! I love animals, period. I have a little dog, so I am partial to them!!
