The Real Estate (Regulation and Development)Bill was passed by the RajyaSabha on 10th March, 2016 and the LokSabha on 15th March, 2016. The Bill as passed by the Parliament was assented to by the Hon’ble President on 25th March, 2016. The Act as assented to by the Hon’ble President was published in the Official Gazette on 26th March, 2016 for public information.
The Act brings forth the maiden law for the regulation of the real estate sector. It includes provisions for mandatory registration of all the real estate projects in the planning area and lays down various parameters for the regulation of the projects and protection of allottees. It also provides for the registration of the real estate agents and stipulates their obligations. It provides for various obligations of the promoter of a real estate project together with rights and obligations of allottees. The Act also provides for setting up of a Regulatory Authority,
