I had everything I ever wanted, living the dream, at least that's what I always thought.
The night we met, we had an instant attraction, but she was with someone else. When we reunited a few months later, she was single, and that pull was still there, stronger than ever. So strong that even though she lived hundreds of miles away, I pursued her.
I told myself that I just wanted to get to know her. Deep down, I knew it was more.
I hate the distance between us, but am I willing to give up my legacy for her?
Jamie
I never understood the draw of living in the middle of nowhere. My dream life is in the city.
I've never had the desire to leave the city. Who would have thought a weekend trip to the country would have me questioning that decision? It was more than just the country air and the thousands of stars in the midnight sky. It was him.
The way he looks at me, treats me, and that smooth southern drawl.
The distance is too much, but am I willing to give up my dream for him?

Sweet, safe; likable characters; low on drama and angst.
He was a decent man - strong, respectful, honest.
She was a decent woman - smart, kind, strong.
He wasn't a 'player' and she wasn't a virgin; no sex-scenes with OP, no slut-shaming, no bashing exes - free of romance clichés!
Excellent!
The story was partly a bit dragged on, but it's better than manufactured drama.
I liked how they solved work & love situation. But I wished the hero were ready to give up his life for her earlier in their relationship. He did it at the end, but it was her, who moved to him. As I said, nice played, but I wanted him to sacrifice a bit more.
Southern Attraction indeed. This story got me right in the feels. I've been restless with the heroes in books lately. Too many manwhores who don't know how to be a real man. This was a story that didn't need depend on ow/om nonsense for the drama, it was a heartfelt story.
HERO~ Mike was A-MA-ZING. He was sexy, charming, loving and swoon-worthy. He was loyal to his family and friends and an all around great guy. There wasn't anything that I didn't like about him.
HEROINE~ Jamie was a good heroine. There was a point I wanted to shake her teeth loose but she turned it around. She was sweet, kind and also a loyal friend to Whitney (book 2) I thought she made a great addition to this gang.
SEXUAL HISTORY~ Neither were virgins. Mike was not a manwhore and had been celibate for 2 years. OM/OW DRAMA ~ Zero - it was refreshing
STEAM I would consider this a slow burn. There was some steamy parts but not an abundance (I could have used more and it brought my rating down some)
VIOLENCE No violence of any nature
SAFETY Safe - neither were with others after meeting. Jamie had a boyfriend when they met. She did nothing with Mike that weekend and she broke it off with her boyfriend when she got home. Neither were with others after meeting
ENDING~ Short epilogue 6 months later and I NEEDED more. With a better epilogue this would have been 5 stars for me.
I wouldn't recommend this if you're diabetic. That's how sweet this one is. The MCs acted a bit like teenagers. However. I still liked it. No angst whatsoever. Just two people trying to figure out life together. I was slightly annoyed by heroine, however I was able to overlook it. They were both experience, hero's 6 vs heroine's 3; however she was younger than hero. Hero has been celibate for about 2 years, heroine broke off her last relationship after meeting hero, BEFORE approaching anything.

A sign of a great author is their ability to immerse you in the story. To live within the world they work tirelessly creating. Kaylee Ryan did just that. Real life fell away, and I was in Kentucky & Chicago.
Mike and Jamie met once, the attraction was palpable, but Jamie had a boyfriend. They meet again months later and the pull is stronger this time. Both are single. They agree to spend time together, and the attraction skyrockets. There is just one huge trouble, Jamie lives in Chicago, works as a paralegal and has dreams that don't include the country. Mike took over the third generation family bar, and it is his dream, his, and his sister legacy, he is 100% country.
These two spend more and more time together over the months. Their friend's wedding may be the final breakpoint as Jamie receives live changing news back home, good news. How can love last when distance is unbreakable.....
I'm not gonna lie, Kaylee could write the phone book and I would probably buy it!
Since I stumbled upon her books I've been a fan. She knows how to write heroes you want for yourself, and heroines that are there for their men. This story is no exception. I loved Jamie and Mike's story. Although Evan will always hold a special place in my heart I have a new love for Mike. The chemistry between Jamie and Mike was off the charts, and what I loved is they didn't rush anything and got to really know each other. A lot of their relationship at first is via phone calls and texts. Ugh...I can't say more because this is a journey one must take on their own. The one thing standing between these two is distance, could Mike really leave Kentucky and the bar (his legacy), would Jamie move from the city, and away from her parents? Hop on because you know it's going to be a hell of a ride. Again there are secondary characters that really enhance the story without taking attention away from Jamie and Mike. I love seeing or reading Mckinley, Evan, Whit, Aaron, and Olivia and her man David.
As always I loved it and all of it's swoony glory!!
I voluntarily read this ARC for a honest review on behalf of author groupies
The third book in the Southern Heart series focuses on Mike Wallace, the cousin of Whitney (book 2) and owner of Mike's bar. Mike has thrown himself into running his bar, which he is the third generation owner of. His friends convince him to come out for a night and he meets Jamie, Whitney's best friend, who is visiting from Chicago. Mike and Jamie hit it off and spend the entire evening talking.
Fast forward 6 months - Jamie is back visiting Kentucky because Whitney is getting married. Jamie and Mike start to spend time together and realize they have a strong attraction. They begin a friendship of texting and calling, almost every day.
I absolutely loved Mike. He was such a sweet guy, very family oriented, always putting others before himself. Jamie was a good person as well, but was convinced she couldn't leave the big city.
It was nice to revisit all the characters from the prior two books as well. They are all part of this story. Not too much too say, but this is a good conclusion (if that's what it is) to this series. Though I would sure love more.
Southern Attraction is the 3rd book in the Southern Heart Series. Let’s just say that good things most definitely come in 3’s. I loved each one of these books so much that it’s hard to say this, but I think Southern Attraction is my favorite of the three. There is just something about Mike that makes me swoon. He is so sweet and sexy, but we knew this already from meeting him in Southern Pleasure and Southern Desire. Mike first met Jamie 6 months ago and things just clicked between them. He was a perfect southern gentleman and made no moves when he knew she was involved with someone else. Once she was available there was no holding back. The only problem was the distance between them. But the heart wants what the heart wants. The simmering love story building between them was beautiful. You will love every single minute you spend with Mike and Jamie. This is a book you will want to read again!!
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Southern Pleasure (Southern Heart #1) Southern Desire (Southern Heart #2)
This is Jamie and Mike’s story. When Mike and Jamie met there was a connection, but she was with someone else. They stayed friends, but she lives hours away from him. Mike knew he wanted Jamie from the start, but he waited until she didn’t have a boyfriend to make his move. She is coming into town to see her best friend and see Mike. What that have is deep and real but will one of them have to give up their dreams so that they can be together? Or can they compromise and have a even greater future together? Or are friends all they will ever be?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Southern Attraction is my first Kaylee Ryan read and although this is the third book in this series i can be read as a standalone with no problem.
Mike spends all his time running his family's bar since his father retired. He met a sweet, sexy woman through his friends six months ago and although there was a connection Jamie wasn't single. Now Jamie is heading back to Kentucky for her best friends wedding. Both are excited to see each other again, the chemistry is still there & with neither of them in a relationship they begin to get to know each other more in depth. I really enjoyed the slow burn to their relationship it played out like really life.
If you're looking for a sweet, full on romance with no angst. Then this is city girl and good o'l country boy will steal your heart.
At one point in Southern Attraction, Jaime (I loved that her name was actually James) and Mike get ready to go out to a fancy dinner. The place?
Outback Steakhouse.
Jaime says "it's perfect, it's us". She couldn't have been more right. Much like Outback, they were nice but very basic. And kind of boring.
The book reads like a Hallmark movie. Well, if Hallmark movies had sex scenes and spent more than 10 minutes on the lives of the nosey sister and sassy best friend, lol.
I was going to give it 2 stars but bumped it up to 3 because even though it was bland, it was an easy, angst free read.
I liked that this one was a bit different. Jamie and Mike had things to work out, mainly their living in 2 different states. I liked that they didn’t rush their relationship, that they took time to get to know each other first and decided if the relationship was worth figuring out the bigger question. I liked how things worked out for them, that both of them knew without a doubt that the other one wanted them.
“Dreams Change”...Kentucky sounds charming as described by the primary and secondary characters.
It’s February and Jamie is driving from Chicago to Kentucky to visit her friend Whitney. Whitney is in the throes of planning her upcoming wedding in June and Jamie’s her best friend. Mike’s is Aaron’s friend, a barkeep, owner of a tavern and someone Jamie briefly met six months ago during a weekend visit. At that time, she’d been casually dating someone for three months...that is no longer a factor.
These homespun, honourable men, seem too good to be true. This couple is reminiscent of a teenage crush, complete with the tender touches and subtle looks.
Minor grammatical issues nothing that distracts from the storyline.
Me: Are you flirting with me, Michael? Mike: Call it what you want. I call it the truth. Me: You’re one of a kind. Mike: Does that mean you want to keep me?
They both realise that Chicago and Kentucky is a distance apart, separate worlds, yet, their attraction is undeniable.
“Jamie. You’ll be mine. I’ll fight to make that happen, but I refuse to take this to that level until I know, we’re on the same page. We live in different worlds right now, and I don’t know how to fix that.” “We’ll take it one day at a time. We’ll get to know each other. We’ll enjoy our time together and see where that takes us”.
Eventually her employer retires and she is bankrolled with a generous severance package. Taking the opportunity, she visits Mike and her friends for two weeks. During which they spend time getting better acquainted. Eventually the time comes to say goodbye as she’s been offered a new job, everything she’s ever thought she’d wanted...but privately, she misses Mike. With the blessing of her parents, she decides she can work anywhere...including Kentucky.
Pulling into her car park, Mike parks next to her car. Flowers in hand, he enters her building and knocks on the door. “Coming”....When she pulls open the door, she gasps and tears immediately start to fall. “Mike,” she breathes. “What are you—” “I miss you, Jamie.” “Come in.” Boxes. I see boxes everywhere. “Are you moving?” I ask her.
“I can’t breathe without you, Jamie. There are plenty of bars here in Chicago, and with my background I can get a job at any of them. If you’re not happy here, we’ll get another apartment or buy a house just outside the city, whatever you want.” “You came here for me? What about your family, Mike’s Tavern? You can’t give all that up”.
“I can and I will. I don’t need all that, but I do need you. I need you”. “You know why I’m not happy here?” “I miss you too. I realized that I’m not really home unless I’m where you are.” “So, you said you were moving? You were coming to me?” “Yeah.” She smiles. “I’m coming to you. “I can’t let you do that. Your dream job.” “I’m moving to Kentucky. I need to find a place to live, but Whit has always said I can stay with her, and Liv offered—” “You can come back to our place.” “Our place?” “Yes. It doesn’t feel like just mine anymore. I see you everywhere. It’s lonely without you.” “We’re really doing this? You’re moving to Kentucky? You’re moving in with me. Not just for a few weeks, but for a lifetime?” “We’re really doing this,” she assures me.
“Mike,” she calls out. “Yeah, babe?” I ask, sticking my head around the kitchen door to look at her. “I love you.” “I love you too. Now get off your a*s and let’s pack.” I shoot her a wink and head back to the kitchen. I want to be on the road early in the morning. I’m bringing my girl home.
Six months later, a natural progression of a puppy with a marriage proposal.

When I first started Southern Attraction by Kaylee Ryan I had two expectations. I expected a heartwarming country story and a swoony true to the name country boy. Holy Hell did Kaylee Ryan ever deliver! Mike is the swooniest of all characters. I am in love with this fictional country boy!
Country Boy, Mike, is all about work and his legacy which happens to be the bar his father has handed down to him. He hasn't had a relationship in two years and frankly doesn't want one. That is until he meets his buddy's girlfriends best friend Jamie.
City Girl, Jamie, is a paralegal making her way up in the world. Her dreams are as far as the eye can see. When she decides to go visit her best friend in Tennessee she doesn't expect to fall in love with the land, the people, and she didn't expect to slowly give her heart to the one man she can't be with. Mike.
Throughout the novel Jamie and Mike struggle with the distance between them but as their relationship grows the times spent together are more meaningful than the time before. The separation between their hometowns and their own lives is a struggle, and even though each has their moments of questioning whether or not this relationship is really worth it in the end, Mike and Jamie fight for what they want.
Mike is a true to the word country boy. He respects his mama, loves his family and treats a lady right, but you get this man in the bedroom and their he lets his inner alpha shine bright.
The first half of Mike and Jamie's story is literally filled with combustible sexual tension. They both want each other but aren't willing to give in until they know for a fact which direction their relationship is heading in. They took the time to form a friendship that set roots to what will eventually grow into an everlasting relationship.
Southern Attraction was a great 'City Girl meets Country Boy' novel. I loved Jamie's independent nature and Mike's adoration towards everything he's passionate about. Mike is a country boy with a heart of gold.
I loved the hell out of Southern Attraction and highly recommend it to everyone looking for a feel good novel. Even though this is the third book in the Southern Hearts series it can 100% be read as a standalone.....although....I also highly recommend the other two novels in the Southern Heart series. Don't miss out on this amazingly sweet and sexy country boys and their girls!
I really enjoyed Southern attraction haven't read the first two books in the Southern heart series and first time reader of Kaylee Ryan it wont be my last by her . The characters are really likable , story line that drew me in , and emotions that had me on a roller coaster . The secondary characters are from the first books in the series that I will be reading because they all seemed like lovely people and I'd be reading how they fell into relationship . Jamie and Mike are perfect for one another with families that they love and a respect for one another . The ending is beautifully done I can't wait to read whats to come for this author copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero=10 heroine=10 secondary characters=10 Chemistry=10 steam=7 romance=8 humor=5 darkness level=3 action=3 mystery=3 enjoyment=10 angst=3 story line=10 Story ending=10 character development=10 pacing=10 Triggers=no cover=10 stars=4 author=8 would I recommend this book=yes would I re read this book=yes would I read future books by this author=yes
Kaylee Ryan writes sweet and sexy romances with the best of them. Her books always promise such a good time with a coming home type feel that just wraps you up. Every single time I read a book by Kaylee I know exactly what I'm going to get. I've absolutely loved this Southern Heat series but this book might just be my new favorite.
Southern Attraction was a beautiful book that gave my two people I fell head over heels in love with. Mike and Jamie quickly stole my heart and showed that love is worth...everything. The emotions were so very real and the romance so swoony to the max
Miles may separate them yet their attraction is undeniable. Jamie and Mike click in the best way from the moment they meet but it's a bit complicated. It won't be easy yet the heart wants what the heart wants. Can their love and attraction go the...distance?
Kaylee Ryan always delivers the most amazing romances and I can't wait to see what she gives us next.
This is Book 3 in the Southern Heart series and just like the first 2 I fall in love all over. Jamie is headed back to Kentucky to visit her best friend who she misses but she's excited to see Mike as well. when she first met him 6 months ago there was a connection but she was with someone at the time, but she lives 6 hours away. Mike hasn't stopped thinking about Jamie, and when he sees she's back the connection is still there. Mike does all he can to get to know Jamie better but his heart is,wanting to jump in and the distance between makes it hard, but he's not sure he stay away or let her go. omg Mike is a true southern man, yummy. I loved this whole series. you can read each as a standalone but the characters are in each one so I highly recommend reading in order. I hope we get to see each couple as they start the next chapter, I would love to see each one of these men with their pregnant wife's and babies.
WOW! All I can say is Kaylee did it again. This is the story of Mike and Jamie who we meet in Southern Desire. You are taken on a roller coaster ride of emotion as these two figure out how to mesh their lives together. The ups and downs of living 600 miles apart and figuring out what you think you want most in life isn't always what you really need. It's about realizing dreams change and having the courage to change with them. It's finding out home isn't a place in your life but a person to share that life with you. Well done Ms. Ryan, well done
Mike is like the sweetest man ever, “spending time together. I want to hold you and kiss you, and if I’m lucky , fall asleep with you in my arms.” Jamie has her priorities straight, “yeah. I’ll be quick.” Well, after I watch his naked arse pull on some gym shorts. No point in missing the show." I liked this book, I really loved Mike, the man knew how to treat his woman.
Another wonderful sweet, sexy cowboy read from Kaylee Ryan! I absolutely adore this series, I think its some of Kaylee's best work. I hope this isn't the last we've seen of our favourite Kentucky town!
Another awesome read by Kaylee Ryan! Mike sure attracted me in book1&2! I think he also got Jamie's attention hook, line and sinker as well! Jamie & Mike fought all the obstacles to get want they wanted! It's so good to be catching up with the gang in each book!
3 forgettable ⭐️s. My biggest complaint with this book is the writing style. Beyond being very dialogue heavy (as in large stretches of just tennis-match style speaking back and forth with little breakup), there’s NO description anywhere. Not of the main characters, side characters, setting, nothing. It’s the blandest thing ever. For example - what do any of the friends look like? Absolutely no clue, they’re literally nothing but names. Even the main characters - the extent of what you know is Jamie’s blond haired, green eyed and Mike is dark haired, blue eyed. That’s it. Is she tall, short, thick, thin? Is he tall, short, tan, bearded? Who knows. Not the reader. It doesn’t even tell their ages - they could be anywhere from 20 to 40?!
In fact, we know very little about anything. There’s NO describing the setting. What does his house look like when she comes over? His bedroom? Her apartment? Her best friends brand new house that they hang out at multiple times but have zero idea what it looks like. Her office? We know nothing about either job she has at ALL, besides a brief interaction with her boss (who is described succinctly as simply “retirement age”).
It’s like the whole book exists in a vacuum. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that takes so little time to develop its story and physical attributes. They go take a hike to view a valley and then say absolutely zilch about anything on the hike or the view at the top. They go to a music festival and then don’t ever say a single word about it besides “they got food”. They go to the zoo and the only thing the book says is “they walk around it twice”. Like I really want to buy the author some adjectives and descriptive words.
Mike was an okay if bland, unseasoned hero. He’s sweet and respectful and that can be rare to find in books these days. But he was weirdly obsessed with her being both beautiful AND driving 6 hours to see him though :
“I just… she’s a beautiful woman driving six hours on her own.
It’s a long drive for a beautiful woman to be making on her own.”
“You’re a beautiful woman who’s driving way too many miles on her own. It’s dangerous as f——.”
She’s a big girl, Mike.” “Yeah, she’s also a beautiful girl driving all on her own. Do you watch the news? You know how many damn crazies there are out there.
He went on and on about it. Like, only women he thinks are beautiful are ever in danger? 🤦🏻♀️
Jamie’s priorities didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Lastly (while I’m apparently ranting), the intimate scenes were sort of cringy and not hot. They didn’t do anything for me.
Overall it wasn’t terrible or anything, but it was sort of bland and boring and I was ready for it to be over.
I read and enjoyed Evan and McKinley's story in book one and then Aaron and Whitney's story in book two but it took me a minute to dive into this book. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but I was mistaken, I loved this book. Mike & Jamie are sweet and sincerely in love. While I thought Jamie made some rash decisions she was still such a good character and didn't waste time attempting to rectify them.
*If I could beg Kaylee Ryan to altar one thing within her all her stories is that fact that I have read, at least a dozen of her novels and she without fail has the Hero proposal with the same exact line "Will you do me the incredible honor of being my wife?" I'd love to see that changed up a bit. Especially within the same series, you can't honestly tell me that 5 brothers all say the same line or 4 sets of friends...she creates incredibly complex individual characters with personalities all their own but then has every hero use the same line during the proposal. Please change it up a bit!
I think I might have accidentally skipped a part of the book because of the swift in Jamie and Mike's relationship. It seemed a little fast to me and this might be my kindle's fault. Honestly, the book didn't do much for me and I don't think it was because of the skipped part which was early in the book. It felt a little flat to me and I wasn't able to connect with the characters. I not even sure how they connected since most of their relationship is happening through text messages and phone calls. It has the same tone and it only changes when the distance between the places they live is mentioned. Then the who-is-going-to-uproot-his-life drama comes into play. I didn't dislike the book hence the reason I didn't give it a lower rating. It just left me indifferent. Meh is the correct way to express my feelings about it, which is bad, but the truth.
I liked this story, like I liked the first two in the series. But I really wanted to Gibbs smack these two.
Jamie and Mike have had a strong attraction to each other since they met, when Jamie came to visit her friend Whitney. Jamie works as a paralegal for an attorney in a private practice, back in Chicago. Mike had taken over the family bar from his father and is trying to get his sister, Olivia to take a stronger role in it so that they can share their legacy.
Jamie starts making frequent trips to visit Whitney and help her plan her wedding and to see Mike. She and Mike fall in love but her life is in Chicago and Mike's is running the bar. They can't figure out how to be together, even when Jamie's boss retires.
I liked this story. But I kept thinking why doesn't she... through the whole book.
Jamie was in KY visiting her best friend that had just moved there. There is where she met Mike. The rest is history.
The two do everything in their power to make their relationship work, weekend visits, time before the weeding. It all comes to a major stand still when jamie is offered her dream job in her home of Chicago. She must either take it and leave mike or move with him. She ultimately chooses to take it and see where it leaves her and mike. Two hearts are broken forcing hands.
Couldn’t put this down! Loved every minute of it! Between laughing and crying!
