Treat yourself to ebooks inspired by Hallmark Christmas movies. Enjoy a heartwarming, feel-good story…and find out what happens after the movie ends. A Hollywood movie star. A small-town single dad. A magical romance. Christmas is almost here, but Jessica has other things on her mind. Being the producer as well as the star of her new movie is a big challenge, and her co-star ex-boyfriend doesn’t seem to be quite over her. Still, she has the project carefully planned out, and the location is Homestead, Iowa. Matt, the mayor of Homestead, owns the inn where Jessica and her co-star are staying. He barely knows who Jessica is, even though his young daughter, Sophie, is one of her best fans. Christmas became even more important to Matt after his wife passed away, and he isn’t happy about the Hollywood production interfering with the community’s traditions. After Jessica makes more than one faux pas in her first encounter with Matt, she tries to prove that she isn’t just a Hollywood stereotype. Gradually, she grows enamored with Homestead...and with him, which was definitely not part of her plans. Matt’s falling for her, too, but their two worlds clash. Can an innkeeper and an A-list actress really hope for a romantic future together? This sweet story includes a free original recipe for Snowflake Cherry Pie.
"The story of a famous actress finding true love at Christmas in a small town? That's the plot of your movie. Not real life" (pg. 186). This is my first time reading a book by Author Kara Tate. I enjoyed the Hallmark Channel Original Movie, "Christmas in Homestead" so I was anxious to read the book!
I think the book is better than the movie! The author shows the perspectives from Jessica, Matt, Ian, Zoe and even ten-year old Sophie. There are times when the author changes the point of view mid-scene, like the snowball fight scene where the reader experiences Matt's viewpoint and then the scene continues through Zoe's eyes. Also, what I enjoyed is the same scene being done twice from two different characters' perspectives. Jessica is talking to Sophie. Then the same lines are said but then heard from Matt's point of view, who is eavesdropping in on the conversation.
It's a story within a story (i.e. the fictional movie being filmed within this fictionalized world of Homestead). This book showcases all the Christmas aspects like snowball fighting, ice skating, snowman building, decorating cookies, carriage rides and Christmas lights. "She was a Gilmore Girls fan - because who wasn't? - and it was as if someone had thought to bring Stars Hallow to life then decorated for Christmas" (pg. 24).
The actress, Jessica, falling for the innkeeper both onscreen and off is a little hard to believe... but I'll allow it (Hallmark for ya!). Everyone couples up at the end... even Vince. "He wasn't a bad guy... he was just the stereotype of every guy rom-coms used to have a character arc" (pg.80). And I like the nonromantic relationships like Gavin + Sophie and Zoe + Matt. It was cute in the last chapter where fantasy meets reality.
There is an Epilogue in the book, showing the characters one year later. My book contains a Hallmark Original Recipe of a Snowflake Cherry Pie.
The message is: make your own happy ending, embrace the true meaning of Christmas, change isn't always a bad thing, choose your priorities in life, do the right thing and treat everyone with kindness. "That's what we do here in Homestead. We're nice" (pg. 217).
I enjoyed this Hallmark movie so I figured I'd like the book. I liked being able to picture the actors they used for the characters in the book. Makes me want snow and winter even more right now!
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, I loved this movie and when Hallmark announced that they had turned the plot into a book my eyebrow perked just a little. Part of me thought that it wasn't worth it but the other part of me was interested. And it was worth it.
This book stays true to the original movie, giving it new insight and a fresh voice.
Jessica just wants to get a movie done in Homestead but there's one thing standing in her way. Matt is the town's mayor and not happy that Jessica's film crew is invading his town at Christmas. But as things begin to unfold, maybe love is in the air for both of them.
This book is highly enjoyable and appropriate for all ages.
When choosing this year’s Hallmark Christmas book, I made sure that it was a title that had an accompanying movie. The movie for this one exists (though it was a little harder to find than others and involved purchasing it through Amazon Prime), and I’m proud to report that it was, in fact, worth it! One thing I noticed, though, was that the book really managed to develop and flesh out the secondary characters’ storylines in a way that was missing from the film (but, of course, you run into that with every film-book comparison since movies can’t put you in the headspace of a character). The book also does more to establish the exact nature of the protagonists’ relationship a year after the conclusion; in the movie, we just see them get into the same horse-drawn carriage at the movie premiere and share a kiss. 🎄 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ . The basic premise of the book (and movie, which was released in 2016) is that a movie star is now also working as a producer on her next film and is headed to the beautiful small town of Homestead, Iowa, to make a movie about a movie star falling in love with an innkeeper. (A little more meta and self-aware than we typically expect from Hallmark.) Sorry for the spoiler, but in the main narrative, the movie star also falls in love with the innkeeper - but he’s not playing the innkeeper in the movie (the star’s fellow movie star ex-boyfriend does, which leads to a slightly more interesting crinkle). Overall, the descriptions of the filmmaking process and navigating Hollywood are believable, with a major exception that I felt was well-embodied by this quote: “A lot of his [Vince’s] success had been the extra time he’d taken, not just helping her as the up-and-comer, but in really nailing his role. She found out later he’d watched all 25 of ‘The 25 Most Memorable Romantic Comedies’ and worked secretly with an acting coach to change some of his movement and blocking habits.” (That’s what it sounds like when someone who isn’t really an actor tries to write about what an actor does.) 🎥 . The screenwriter also had some really strong metaphors, even if the characters had scripted lines that told them to dismiss them immediately afterwards: Zoe (the innkeeper’s sister) warns her brother of being “pulled into a star’s gravitational pull,” and then she also admonishes him for wanting to keep Christmas the same and fighting Jessica’s film-related obstacles by suggesting that it would like “getting same Christmas present over and over,” which (spoiler alert!) is what seems to make him change his mind in the end. 🎁 . “She certainly still adored Vince, in a ‘brother who must be humored at all times’ type of way, but really?” That one left me wondering - is that how my sisters think of me? 🤔 . “She could only handle one thing at a time: life or work. And right now, her whole focus was work.” Oof. That one hit a little too close to home. 😅 . And a few more that I thought, “Well, that’s an interesting way to put it”: 🔴 “She went into their rear quarters and slammed the door, leaving that lying vulture out in the cold, not just literally.” (The innkeeper’s sister cutting off the paparazzo photographer with whom a “thing” had been starting.) 🔴 “He shrugged because, of course he did. Tough guys didn’t get weepy; they just sneaked around behind your back doing the sweetest, most thoughtful, selfless thing out there.” (Jessica talking about her ex-boyfriend Vince and a scheme to get the press to leave her alone.) 🔴 “Any time a ten-year-old asked about secrets, he started panicking a bit. But Matt had learned that his daughter was a positive soul, with goodness in all of her thoughts. Well, most of them. There was a small competitive streak he was just learning about because of one of the Haileys.” Wouldn’t it be nice if all kids were, in fact, “positive souls, with goodness in all of their thoughts,” as their parents believe? 🙄 . Anyway, I’d recommend this audiobook - but probably not for another 10 and a half months, since it’s pretty seasonal - or the movie if it happens to be on!

Like those Hallmark Christmas movies; but don't have access to 'watch' them? Well you can 'read' them instead. Christmas in Homestead is based on the movie of the same name and its written counterpart doesn't disappoint. The main plot is a Christmas, rom-com movie set within a movie; or in this case book. Jessica, a famous actress in her own right, is producing her first film on location in the fictitious town of Homestead, Iowa. She meets Matt, a widower, who not only is handsome & the nicest guy you'll ever meet; but also the town mayor who isn't thrilled with a movie crew coming to his small town & disrupting all the Christmas festivities and traditions.
As with all Hallmark Christmas movies, the plots are very similar in nature & quite predictable. This was no different. All characters were super nice or funny or quirky. There is never any true negative qualities to anyone. This can get a little tiresome but it is expected with a book like this, so that isn't a drawback. Matt & Jessica had the typical, but fun chemistry of butting heads & missteps; but still seeing something in each that makes them fall in love.
I really enjoyed the secondary characters of Zoe, Ian & Gavin. While the book doesn't deviate from the film, we get a little more with these people than what we see on screen. I wished there could have been more. They each had a 'fun' voice and helped give the story---pardon the pun----a more 'homey' feel to it. The extra inner dialogue that is provided is well written & helps give fuller character development.
One added element these books have that their movie counterparts don't is an epilogue. I won't give anything away, but it's usually set a year in the future and it's nice closure. While predictable, it truly is a nice plus and provide a better 'finish' to the story. If you like these types of stories, these books are a fun, quick read to get you in the holiday spirit. They stand on their own very well; but work just as brilliantly as a companion to the movie.
This is a sweet and clean story - there is no questionable content in this one at all.
This book is a companion to the Hallmark movie Christmas In Homestead, but it is so much more than just a verbatim re-telling of that story. I have read three out of the four Hallmark movie-to-book adaptations and they were really good, but this one is my absolute favorite of the bunch. I enjoyed the movie, don't get me wrong, but the book so much better because it was able to delve deeper into everyone's inner thoughts and give the story and characters a depth that was missing in the movie. I specifically loved reading Matt's inner thoughts as he navigated the upheaval in his life. He was so much more likable when we could see just why he was so grouchy and just how much he loved his daughter, his sister, and his entire town. His humor and playful sarcasm made me adore him from start to finish, even when he was being a grumpy old man. I also really enjoyed getting a little more info on the secondary stories between Zoe and Ian, and even Gavin and Zoe.
If you enjoy a fun Christmas story where a Hollywood starlet (who isn't obnoxious) meets small town grumpy-pants boy and falls in love kind of story, or if you've seen the movie and want more details on Jessica and Matt, you should read this book. I highly recommend it.
I requested and was generously granted an ARC of this story via NetGalley and the publisher. I was under no obligation to write this review, I did so because this book was fantastic.
Christmas in Homestead is about an actress who wants to Produce her own movie and she wants to do that in a quaint little town in Homestead where she heard the mayor does not want to have any part of it. Now, she is staying at the towns bed and breakfast while filming-. Guess who owns the bed and breakfast? And when she pulled into town she orders some cupcakes and guess who she mistakes as a worker there at the bakery? Can you believe all that and with all that stacked against her guess who is her co-star? Her ex-boyfriend. The mayor has a daughter who absolutely loves her movies, and when her mom was alive so did she, very much. So, can she win over the mayor? How does the bed-and-breakfast owner fit in? What about the ex-boyfriend? How does the movie affect the whole town? What an amazing twist this has-do not miss out. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Now I want to watch this Hallmark movie. The book was exactly what I anticipated it would be -- a nice, wintery setting that was a cozy town, holding all the clique elements I wish I had in my own life. I mean, who doesn't want a small town feel where you walk to places like the local bakery where everyone knows your name; where you have nightly town-wide Christmas traditions like snowball fights and Christmas Eve tree lighting ceremonies. Hello, people! I was MADE to be in a Hallmark movie, apparently. I love the idea of the local innkeeper and the Hollywood celebrity, coming into take over the charm of the town to use in their movie. It was sweet and idyllic in every way, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. My only complaint is that in normal fashion with these books I want MORE. There could be oh so many more chapters adding a depth and breadth to this book that the movie couldn't. But alas, I will take what Christmas cheer I can get here and enjoy it.
I'm very big fan and black hole who sucks Hallmark movies in and I'm reading books since I was 7. So when I get to know that Hallmark movies are now books too, I was over the moon because I will love to cherish the same story in one of my more favourite versions and I really did.
I loved the book version more, sorry movies! But the way book is written is quite beautiful and really loved it. I loved the characters more in comparison of the movie.
Really looking forward for more Hallmark Movies to be converted to books.
A Hallmark e-book excited me. I love Hallmark movies- love the thought of books with more of the story. A Hallmark Christmas movie is a holiday treat.
The descriptions made me see Homestead, I could be there. Homestead is a perfect place to celebrate Christmas. I want to go there. I want to hang out or go on a carriage ride with them.
I loved reading the story behind the movie! I highly recommend!!
A sweet Christmas tale with a predictable ending but that is what we love about Hallmark. The love story with a happy ending.
When I read this book I had not watched the movie yet so I loved being surprised as I was reading. You will fall in love with little Sophie as she is a doll. She adds such character and excitement to the book. She became my favorite character.
This is the perfect book to read as you wind down from a busy day of shopping and visiting. Grab a cup of cocoa and turn on your tree and lose yourself in Christmas In Homestead.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for a copy to read in exchange for my honest review in my own words.
I am really enjoying the books from Hallmarks Christmas movie's and this one did not disappoint a super read for a lazy weekend. This book is Matts and Jessica's story he is the stick in the mud grumpy mayor and dad to ten-year-old Sophie and owns the Lodge that Actress Jessica and the rest of her cast and crew. These two had me laughing out loud at times but they also had their sweet times together a good read
Christmas in Homestead is a fun story for the holidays. Jessica is an actress looking to produce movies. Matt is the mayor of Homestead, and although he wants the income for Homestead, he really doesn’t want the disruption a movie crew will bring to his town.
I enjoyed this book, knowing it was also made into a Hallmark movie. It was funny and sweet and of course, has HEA!
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I have seen the movie, so it impressed me how the author made me feel emotion for an ending I already expected. I love the author’s ability to take the characters further off-screen. I love the premise of an actress falling for a small town dad, and the daughter Sophie is a cute addition to the book. I loved the short chapter from her point of view. A surprisingly sweet read set in a Christmas-loving small town.
Jessica is a producer/ actress they all went to her home town is from homestead Iowa her co star Bradly we’re in the same movie together her friends and her daughter experience Christmas in Iowa there is a lot of snow and a lot of family singing Christmas carols. She had in love with one of her old boyfriends and got engaged in front of her daughter.
What I liked: The writing style The characters Sophie The setting Standalone HEA
I look forward to reading more from this author. I received this book for free from NetGalley. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
3.5⭐️ When you’re in the mood for a cheesy predictable hallmark Christmas (clean) romance but don’t have time to sit to watch a movie, this book hits the spot. The characters were a bit too perfect, but it was engaging enough I’d probably watch the movie if I get a chance.
This was such a cute hallmark read! It was quick and I read it in one sitting! I am excited to go home and watch the movie next! Matt and Jessica were able to get their HEA and I am all for it! Can’t wait to see this book come to life!
Thanks to Netgalley for giving me this book to read in exchange for an honest review. No compensation was given, offered, or taken to alter the opinion.
I’m really enjoying all of these novel adaptations of Hallmark’s Christmas movies. This is the second one I've read so far, following Love You Like Christmas: Based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie. I am a sucker Hallmark movies, but the books are so much better because they allow you to get into the characters' thoughts and use your imagination a little. I love the different points of view that this book follows. This is the perfect book to read to get you in the Christmas spirit, so grab a cup of hot chocolate, turn on your Christmas tree, snuggle up on the couch with some fuzzy blankets, and lose yourself in the town of Homestead. I totally recommend this book for fans of Hallmark movies or Christmas stories.
I’m enjoying the novel adaptations of Hallmark Channel’s Christmas movies that are currently available. It gives a slightly different perspective of a story I’ve already enjoyed with a few additions to make the story even more enjoyable in written form. The characters are even more fleshed out with access to their internal thoughts and motivations. I love movies, I love books but these are giving me the best of both worlds.
Christmas in Homestead is a fun Christmas Romance between one serious, at times grumpy mayor/innkeeper and an actress well known for her action saga who is also branching out into the producer role as well. When Jessica’s movie production hits Homestead life is about to get interesting for the town’s residents and the movie crew as well. Matt’s town can use the income from this movie’s production but he’s also worried about how filming will interfere with the town’s traditional Christmas events. Jessica simply wants to prove herself beyond her work in front of the cameras. She might have bitten off a lot with this project but she’s also not about to back down one bit. Her introduction to Matt is both funny and endearing – who among us hasn’t made one big, huge mistake at that first impression moment that we still cringe at the memory. Watching Jessica and Matt work their way past their awkward beginning into a real relationship is enjoyable, a few chuckle worthy moments and lots of Christmas promise in the air. The few side plots make life in Homestead very interesting indeed.
I had fun with this story, and really that’s the whole point. If you’re looking for a lighthearted, fun, emotional Christmas love story to fall into, then you’ll love this one.
