For more info, visit KTSC28.com Sarah Roberts got sober at the age of 29 and found herself craving sugar for the first time since childhood. She began to use sugar to soothe her emotions and to numb; the same way she'd used alcohol. Sarah went on a quest to uncover strategies and develop a mindset that has allowed her to "uncomplicate" her relationship with food in order to enjoy more freedom in her life. She is on a mission to help others do the same.
I loved that I didn't get what I was expecting with this book but knowing Sarah's story, it makes perfect sense. The challenge is set up as a rehab from.sugar addiction, and is filled out like a step by step guide to recovery. It is full of not only great tips and a calculated plan with detailed instructions, but it is written with a love you can feel. I suffered from a sugar addiction for a long long time. "Suffered" may seem like an intense word to use when thinking about all the candy and Coke and cheesecake I have joyfully consumed in my lifetime, but when the health and emotional consequences I endured throughout that time period are accounted for, it is true that I was inflicting misery on my life while feeling hopeless and unable to stop. That is what any other addiction feels like and sugar really should be looked at for what it is: a drug. I personally broke my own sugar addiction during the summer of 2016 (starting in May with giving up sodas for good and evolving into a strict 4tsps of sugar or less diet for 6 months). As a result, I felt confident I could modify Sarah's challenge to fit the maintenance stage I am in today, however, if I had found this book last summer I would have been so grateful for the friendly assurance and followed it to the tee. I recommend anyone who also feels like they could never give up sugar to let Sarah guide you to the promise land; once you have walked far enough away from the substance you really cannot go back to it. My life without sugar (the majority of my days I stay under 4tsps) is simply amazing. My emotions are stable, my skin is clear, my energy level is even throughout the day, I sleep a solid 7 hours easy during the night, and I just feel so much better. Honestly better than cheesecake tastes....and cheesecake tastes good af.
