Maggie

Rate this book
Maggie was a young, naïve sheltered woman who, through a tragedy, was pushed into a world of abuse and torment at the hands of a man she thought she was in love with. Alone, scared, and helpless, she prayed for help.

That was until she received a telephone call which changed her world, and led her to the bright lights of Auckland. Maggie thought finally she was safe. Nothing would prepare her for what was to follow. From out of nowhere, she met a man who would give her a reason to live, laugh, and learn to love.

Was she strong enough to believe that beautiful things came to those who dared to dream?

Or would the memory of her abuse etched into the depths of her mind take control, and send her back to her secret dark place, alone and frightened once more.

Could the light of a rainbow shine brightly from the depths of a cold gray nothing?

I was born in Hamilton New Zealand. My passion had always been writing. Yet life just seemed to get in the way. Somehow career choices always came first. I met a man who I was to spend the next 34 years of my life with. Sadly I lost my husband to cancer last year. It was the reality of now being on my own that I decided the time has come to write. The funny thing is I can't write directly onto my computer. Every time I log on I seem to waste such a lot of time. I surf the internet, check on Facebook, play chess anything but write. The answer to my problem was close at hand. I simply open an exercise book and armed with a pencil the words come. I love it because I can sit outside in my garden or go to the beach my story is always with me. I love the fact that a crisp blank page is suddenly filled with characters taking a journey of discovery. My husband and I moved to Whanganui six years ago. A beautiful city on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It was here that we found out my husband was terminally ill. I now live alone with three cats, and my German Shepherd dog Rosie. My life is full of adventures, mayhem, and mischief but when you get to my age, anything is possible. I enjoy reading, fishing and sipping cocktails on the beach with my girlfriends. Whanganui is a vibrant city. Fantastic and friendly people live here. I am lucky to live near the sea. The majestic Whanganui river gently flows past my door. One hour’s drive from Whanganui are three beautiful snowy mountains all volcanic. Yikes!!!

Wow I really enjoyed Maggie it was written in such a different way then what I'm used to , Nancy George did such a wonderful job with her characters and story line you'll feel many emotions while loving and despising some characters . There are three stories going on from different perspectives found them interesting one is Maggie and the love she finds Monty after such pain was endeared , Maggies friend Veronica and the man she meets unexpectedly , and the evil couple Rich and Ruby that I wish nothing but horrible things to happen to them . Found the story line very intriguing my heart went out to the heroine I couldn't imagine all the pain she has been through and then when she meets the hero I swooned because if any one can bring light into Maggies life it would be him with the little but big things Monty would do just had me silly grinning , the author also knows how to write characters that you'd hate once introduced and being in their minds while seeing thoughts just made the story that more mind gripping . Maggie as I said before has been through so much when the D bag enters her life and does awful things to her I just wanted to give her one big hug and when a opportunity to get a way presents itself I cheered for her when she blossoms thanks to help of Veronica and the hero . Oh my gosh Monty just stole my heart loved everything about him he was caring , patient , protective , and very gentle in the bed room adore the relationship he has with is sisters .The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is that a thing happened that I felt was put in there unnecessarily and the ending felt a bit rushed but over all this is a good book planning to read more by Nancy George .

Maggie was a very different kind of read that I found quite refreshing, as it was highly original. And since there is more than one storyline going, I'm not describing it, so you will just have to read it for yourselves. Especially since it's rich with many different type of characters. Some I absolutely loved, others I despised, but the thing is, they all brought out strong emotions in me, and that's what I look for in my stories. Plus, I love all the different POVs as it always seems to add depth to the story in my eyes, than with one POV. The angst level of Maggie had all the feels going, and it was hard not to cry at some things, as the pain was so palpable, that it seeped out of my kindle to wrap around me. It looks like this was one of Nancy George's first two books, and it showed a very talented writing style that I'm excited to see evolve as she goes on. And while the ending seemed a bit rushed IN MY OPINION, I'm still going to give it a 5 star rating as there was so much perfection with the originality throughout that it overshadowed something that usually messes with me. So in conclusion, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is the first time I have ready of this authors’ work, so I was unsure of what to expect, but my goodness, I will definitely be reading more in the future. Maggie has lead a conservative life, and when she is suddenly left alone she falls into the devious clutches of Rich. Escaping the life of abuse after receiving a phone call which will change her life, she is lead into another world where she meets Monty. Monty understands Maggie, and patiently brings her out of her shell, and helps her develop into a strong and capable and confident woman. No spoilers; this is a must read, you will not be disappointed!
This is a well written storyline with a great plot, and I was hooked and intrigued throughout. I will definitely be adding this author to my favourites and 1-click lists.

This was really disappointing. I found the story fast and frustrating. The characters were not really interesting. I found I didn't care about them very much.

Honestly, I wanted to like it a lot, but felt the story moved too quick and Maggie was dammed no matter what Monty did she just did nor want to be happy. An though Monty loves her and doesn't want to give up on her, I'm sorry as far as I'm concern she is given a chance of happiness stop moaning and embrace the happiness.

Given a copy for an honest review.

By the time I finished this book I felt like I had more questions than answers. It was never clear to me why Maggie had no friends and why she was pretty clueless in general. She basically gets a makeover and now all of a sudden everyone likes her and her personality? I definitely needed more character development in the beginning of the story.

I didn't particularly care for the first half of the book because I felt like there were parts that were overly graphic more for shock value than really adding to the story. The second half was okay from a romance perspective but I'm not sure why towards the end it focused more on the relationship of Maggie's friend. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this book because there are better books out there dealing with the same themes.

I won this book in a giveaway but was under no obligation to post a review.
