One Wrong Step Friendless and forced to hide his magical powers, Robert is tired of being alone. After years of research, he believes he has finally worked out how to get the spirit of his friend Jack back from Purgatory. All he has to do is summon a demon. It's All Hallows’ Eve – what could possibly go wrong? When the demon Syron appears, things are not as they seem. For one thing, the attraction Robert feels is unusual and not entirely welcome. But that's not the only thing he has to contend with. It seems Jack didn't take his own life as he'd been told and when a visit to Syron's home in hell turns ugly, Robert is forced to face the truths about his life, his family and most of all his attraction to Syron. This is a standalone MM Halloween short story written by Lisa Oliver, under the name pen name Lee Oliver. Normal warnings for adult stories apply. HEA. True Mates. Demon and Warlock.
This was a cute Halloween novella featuring hunky demon and his true mate, virginal warlock. It is fast-paced, mildly angsty and steamy. There are wicked witches who get their due, demons who become friends and past secrets that are finally out in the open. I had so much fun reading it!
For those who are not familiar with Lee Oliver perhaps you know her by her other name Lisa Oliver, author of the Cloverleah series.
Lee Oliver is used by Lisa Oliver for shorter works and stand alone stories. Thus us a stand alone.
A warlock summons a demon to bring him his true love, who committed suicide 4 years ago. The warlock does not summon Balzathar but instead summons Syron. In short order the demon is revealed to be the warlock's fated mate a match given to every paranormal creature even demons need love. This story moves quickly, as it is short the pacing is completely necessary, the action comes fast and furious a great read for Halloween!
For a story that has a big feature on revenge and killing, this was in many ways surprisingly sweet!
Robert kicks everything off, a miserable young wizard who tries to summon a demon to bring back his first love. The only problem is Robert has spent his life being manipulated by his malicious Aunt, so his powers have all had to be learned in secret from books. He gets the summoning a bit wrong and ends up with the demon Syron without any protection. Luckily Syron is swayed by his story and decides to take him to hell......whereupon Syron realizes that Robert is his fated mate, all grown up. Syron wants to help Robert, whether that means getting revenge or helping bring back a lost love, but it may come at the cost of his own life.
Robert is very powerful but his life does not reflect that. His aunt wanted to keep him controlled and so has spent her time telling him he is weak, unwanted, and will never have a happy future. As much as Robert knew that couldn't all be true a lifetime of hearing that has him a bit doubting. Robert has to find his way as he comes to people who believe in him and his powers and he learns that sometimes means taking strength from those who love you.
Syron has some issues with meeting up with his fated mate again. After all, Robert comes to him while looking for someone else, so for the first time ever Syron feels insecure. Syron also has to find a way to make a new future, one that considers another's plans and powers, not just his own. But perhaps the biggest change for Syron is his expectations of having a fated one. Syron is a powerful demon in a leadership position who has always been the strongest, a defense to those he is loyal to. Syron expects to be defending his fated one, but Robert is powerful in his own right and wants a more equal standing. Learning that this power and defense of each other cam be equal is a big change for Syron and interesting to read.
With the 'fated' thing going on this is a very fast relationship, but while they jump into sex first first do take time to build a relationship after that. Mix in the fact that they figure out how they fit with each other while at the same time struggling to figure out the mire that is Robert's past and this is a fast paced read. With the little twists of what being evil really means and how love can change a life it was also very enjoyable and a good standalone!
I've been a die hard fan of Lisa/Lee Oliver since the beginning. I've thoroughly enjoyed every book I've read from her. One of the things I love about her books is that they are all different. There is nothing repetitive or stale in her writing, and she always gives us a well polished and complete story. This book, though it was shorter in length (thus the reason it's a Lee Oliver book) was still awesome from start to finish. The main characters and supporting cast were well developed and fleshed out. The action kept me reading from page one until the end. I love paranormal tropes, and magic users are some of my favorites. I really enjoyed the facets of Roberts character and how his magic developed. Sauron was everything I look for in an MC. This will definitely be a reread for me, and even though it's a standalone, I can't help but hope we get more from this world in the future.
Demons & witches world, what a great little adventure!
I always love Lee Oliver’s (aka Lisa Oliver) creative writing because she always takes me to a place I can lose myself in. This is a short adventure into a world where demons and witches live. I thought she did an excellent job of building the MC Robert who is isolated and needs to know what really happened to his only friend Jack. Syron is the demon that Robert pulled accidentally from the demon world. What a great romp into a new world!
I chose this rating of five stars because in reading the first sentence of chapter one, I immediately sense an unsolved mystery, and I loved reading a good book with the combinations of mystery and romance. I recommend this author's work because she will always leave you wanting to read more of her books, whether a series or stand alone. My own personal request to Ms. Oliver is that she continue this stand alone into a series, more is needed.
What a wonderful story! Who ever thought that demons would be the good guys and humans (witches) would be the really dangerous ones! Syron was terrific. Big, scary fearsome demon with a gentle side and heart of gold. Robert was an interesting character. He started as very young, naive and often quite funny, but he certainly grew up very fast. I was surprised at the level of violence perpetrated by the witches but in an odd way, it fit within the storyline. I really hope the author continues this as a series as I would love to read Horag’s and Maras’s stories.
I really enjoyed this book from one of my favourite authors, it's a fun short story about a demon and a warlock.
The story is about Robert a warlock who summons a demon with the hope of rescuing his best friend from purgatory but things don't go to plan and when Robert and his demon Syron realise they are fated mates and that his best friend Jack was murdered things take a more sinister turn. Definitely worth reading. Recommended.
Yet again Ms. Oliver has delivered a fabulous story. Lee/Lisa Oliver is such a great storyteller. I have said this before but I would love to spend a week in her head listening to all the stories going on. Well written with AWESOME characters. I will hope that some day down the road this might become a series. I know I will be reading this one again.
Rating: 4 stars I don't normally care for demon stories. Just aren't my thing. I found myself really enjoying this one. I loved both Robert and Syron as the MCs of this story and also liked Horag & Maras as the side characters as well. I would like to see them again in future stories. This was good short Halloween tale and I highly recommend it, especially if you are a fan of Lisa Oliver.
This book is written by Lisa Oliver as Lee Oliver when she writes shorter standalone stories,. I said it was a cute story and some parts are but there is also betrayal, murder, fraud and sadness. The book covers all these emotions and yet gives us Lisa's customary HEA with a cute, loving couple. Don't hesitate if you like gay paranormal books.
As noted this is another great story that will drag you in and leave wanting more. Half way through I was hoping for a series on a full all male coven. Hope to hear more from these characters.
In telling you Lisa that what you write is gold. And if I loved in nz, I would come over and hug you! Brilliant story! And I hope that there's more of them cause I loved them!
So, I am a huge fan of Lee/Lisa Oliver and have almost all of her books. This book is another fabulous story. I love that the main characters are demons. They are an underwritten paranormal group and one of my favorite.
Free short story, gifted by the author. This review is unencumbered by its receipt. Clever fun witches/warlock and demon mashup within a Paranormal setting. Unrequited love, virgins, fated mates, evil magic: all within a tale filled with heat, humor and love.
Lee\Lisa Oliver is definitely one click for me. This series is off to a great start with Syron, a demon who is mated to a young innocence warlock. Well worth the read.
This is a stand alone story that I would like to see future stories. I liked the characters in this story along with the storyline. She always writes a good story.
This book was different. I really liked it and it sort of fit with the month of Oct. I know it's a stand alone, but I don't wonder if there's a possibility of it turning into a series.
This story is the total package. Great plot, a satisfying end, well-developed characters, drool worthy protagonists and truly black-hearted antagonists.
This standalone is a really good read. It has some interesting characters with fun personalities and traits that I like. They would definitely be worth exploring and expanding into a series that many of us would love to read.
This novel is light-hearted, a little dark and contains some evil characters who got off too lightly!
Robert had a sad and miserable childhood but he grew into his own man and powers very maturely, allowing him to right several wrongs.
Syron is a demon with a warm heart. Our preconceptions of hell are partially turned on their head in this paranormal read.
Lee, I'm sure that many of your readers would love to see Balthazar find his own mate.
