What goes around comes around...it’s called Karma.
Working for Karma Incorporated might sound like the best job in the world, but there’s one really big catch: you’ve got to die to get it. Cassandra Mercier died at the ripe old age of twenty-one and is now gainfully employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative...and she’s been working overtime.
Cassandra is given the task of playing the psychic medium Castalia Rosso, and she’s on the hunt to give a few pretend ghost hunters a bit of cosmic retribution.
Her targets are two Creeps.
Twins Raul and Roselle, who have made a name for themselves in the ghost hunting community as renowned demon hunters. They’ve gotten so much notoriety that they’ve landed themselves a reality television show. The network insisted that they include a psychic on the show with them, though -- and this is where Castalia Rosso comes in. Joining the twins on an investigation of one of the most haunted houses in the area, Cassie must expose the brother and sister ghost hunting duo, and all their dirty behavior and deal with some real ghosts all while trying to sort out her own tumultuous existence.
As the case gets more and more complex, so does the world Cassie exists in. Life and death aren’t exactly what they seem when working for the Afterlife Corporation.
Gillian Zane is an Amazon bestselling author that specializes in dark genre fiction for adults. Gillian defines herself by the city she was raised in, New Orleans. She’s tried moving away a few times but always comes back. At the age of ten, she decided she would be a writer and has been determined ever since. Between that decision and when she actually finished a book that she believed was good enough to publish, she’s served in the military, worked as a bartender, became a cog in the corporate marketing wheel as a person “that makes things pretty” and has since been laid off too many times to count. She currently writes full-time, but still, continues to “make things pretty” by designing book covers and websites for her fellow authors and bloggers. Gillian lives in New Orleans with her husband, her daughter, and a fat cat named Sushi. A prepper at heart, she also recently added chickens to the mix in her efforts to progress toward self-sufficiency.

CREEP is another great addition to the Karma Inc. series, though I can’t say too much about it, because this series is connected and I’m trying not to give away any spoilers. But I’m very glad my suspicions about Drake were confirmed. Yes, we finally find out what Drake is, and it definitely makes things more interesting. In this story, there was no further investigation into Cassie’s murder, but I think we’ll get a lot of information in the next book, given where her next case is taking her.
CREEP is told only in Cassie’s POV and ends in a cliffhanger of sorts. Each book in this series is connected and cannot be read as stand-alones. The next book in the series is CROOK, and though I don’t know when it’s coming out, I can’t wait to read it.
Creep by the incredible talented and outstanding bestselling author Gillian Zane is the fourth book in the Karma Inc. Series. Creep can be read as a standalone, but for better understanding I recommend to read the books in order. The previous books in the series are Cheat; Shark ; Liar and now Creep. Creep picks up where Liar left off. Cassandra Mercier, she died at age 21 and now is employed as Karma Operative for Karma Inc. THE Afterlife Corporation. At the end of Liar her lover died, and she´s beneath herself.
And now she has a new case assigned to her. Her new task is to play a psychic medium, her targets are twin siblings who con and sham their victims. But the case gets more complex when real ghosts show up. To make matters more complicated an old lover and a goddess with her own agenda show up too. She´s eaten up by self doubts. Life and death aren´t what they seem anymore. I read Creep in one sitting. I was hooked from page one and couldn´t put it down. I love the story and the characters. The writing is great and I could feel the characters emotions in the words. This story has it all—tension, angst, suspense and heartbreak. I've smiled, laughed, cried and was angry at some point. It is not often I feel so connected to the characters, but Gillian Zane has accomplished just that. Gillian Zane is one of my few one-click authors. I loved her NOLA Series very much, just like I love the Karma Inc Series. I really can´t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. I highly recommend Creep and wish I could give more than 5 stars. Thank you so much, Gillian Zane!
I did not enjoy the first 40-50% of this. The first 10% could easily have been cut to 2 paragraphs or so. It was a continuation from the previous episode, but lacked the emotional build-up, so was boring and tedious, without any relevant plot progression.
Truth, none of the whole first portion, beyond what could have been said with a page or two, progressed the story, or the characters.
I ended up skimming quite a bit, and missed nothing. Easily followed the story and overall plot.
Second half was way better, but still contained too many waffles and repetition’s. Not a fan of large portions of this writing style, but this could easily be attributed to personal preference. What couldn’t be, was the issues with continuity, blatantly obvious ‘reveals’, and inconsistent personality traits, combined with their subsequent confusing decisions. 🤨
All of these books need some true editing, but this has been the worst so far.
I DID enjoy where the second half took the story! Just wished we didn’t need to read through so much extraneous fluff, filler, and errors to reach.
Sooo, I know how harsh this sounds. Probably in part due to having just finished. However, I do really enjoy many parts of this. The plot, dialogue, characters [when consistently written, which is most of the time 😉], the humour when used, and the world building [despite its ‘mystery’ stalls, and dribbles of answers 😂].
Some of my issues can be put down to personal, the rest, could easily be resolved with good editing. The core of this is solid, well written, and highly enjoyable.
Despite the issues and frustrations, it’s worth the angst and skimming. 😅
"Creep: Karma Inc. Case 4" just proves why this series is quickly becoming one of my new favorites. The characters and the situations they find themselves in are both intriguing, and endearing. The romance is pretty hot as well.
This time Cassie is reeling from death of Drake. He was her rock, someone she was learning to count on. She is in such a tail spin that she is sent to what can only be described as a Astral nut house. There she is almost catatonic in her grief. Then, she is brought back to do her job where she is informed that she has a new brooding but hot boss. Imagine her surprise when she discovers it is Drake as well as who his mother is.
Cassie is sent on a case involving twin con artists posing as ghost hunter when in fact they rip off unsuspecting people of their money and they the brother also engages in additional vile activities. Cassie is not allowed to return to her home until she handles the issue. Persephone is trying to put the squash on her situation with Drake. The only problem with that is he is having none of it.
There was plenty of action, drama and intrigue in this little gem. I am especially interested in discovering the identity of the mysterious stranger who shows up in this story. Hmmm! It seems that future installments are going to get real interesting. When you are dealing with jealous gods you never know what to expect!
The best installment yet. So many twists you won't see coming and Cassie is even more of a kick-ass heroine in this one. She's my new idol! The Karma series is a must read!
