In 1865, Elizabeth Keckley, Mary Todd Lincoln’s dressmaker, conspired to change the course of the Civil War. Crossing lines between North and South, the band of conspirators wove a plan that remained undiscovered for more than 150 years until Antique Hunter Anne Hillstrom finds one of Keckley’s gowns. She and fellow Antique Hunter CC Muller unravel the mystery that has left a trail of dead bodies, leading to the doorstep of their antique store, Great-Aunt Sybil’s Attic.
Dressed to Kill is the fifth book in the Antique Hunters Mystery Series. Rooted in history, the series reimagines real-life events blurring the line between fact and fiction.

Outdoing herself on this fifth book in her Antique Hunter Mysteries, author Vicki Vass takes readers on an exciting mystery from history!
I absolutely loved this book! Author Vass has antiquers, Anne Hillstrom and CC Muller in possession of an Elizabeth Keckley gown. She was dressmaker for Mary Todd Lincoln. This is quite a coup for the ladies. However, murder and mayhem have different plans for them. With cover to cover surprises, twists and turns that made me dizzy, and as always, superb story telling from Ms. Vass, DRESSED TO KILL is one of the most exciting mysteries I’ve read this year!
And I just have to throw this into my review . . . I’ve mentioned in a past review about the Spoon Sisters Blog that starts off each chapter of the past couple of books in this series. What a fabulous device this is to make readers feel even more a part of the story. It’s so creative, and helps bring the characters to life for me. I hope this featured is continued in the future books.
I’ve been a fan of the Antique Hunters Mysteries since the first book, MURDER BY THE SPOONFUL (released as MURDER FOR SALE). DRESSED TO KILL just may be the best one yet!
A few weeks ago I was sent Dressed to Kill by Vicki Vass, to read and read it I did. Book 5 in the Antique Hunters Mystery Series was outstanding! I could not put it down. If you are not yet into this series you are missing a great one. Vicki Vass is one of my most favorite authors and the character relationships are truly special in her books. I especially love the Antique Hunters Mystery for the relationship between best friends and the antique hunting duo of Anne and CC! There is more than just great relationships in this series, there are also an amazing events and adventures based on true historical events and pieces of history that tie perfectly into the story, the mystery and the fun! This is a great series and I am honored to have found my name and quote on the front cover!
The reason I wanted to read this book was Elizabeth Keckley, she made gowns for Mary Todd Lincoln, so I knew this would interest me. We travel around the state of Illinois, and with President Lincoln being from there, it is full of historical sites and information, which I found very interesting, including lots of antique stores. The author has us with antique hunters Ann Hillstrom and C. C. Muller, and of course we have the Keckley gown, now I would love to see it, and I guess there are a lot of others who would too. The story seems to have a lot of surprises, and I never expected the ending! Come and get lost in a historical dress murder mystery! I received this book through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
Having just been to Galena this summer, I was very excited to go back with the antique hunters and sleuthing Spoon Sisters. If you love the mystery of history and get the feeling that objects have stories to tell, you do not want to miss this book. The characters are wonderful. I get the feeling they are best friends who are often on the verge of stepping on each other's last nerve. They have similar interests but are enough different to challenge each other. Add in the cats antics for amusing moments and then there is Butterworth!
A fun romp through history and a roadtrip of adventure.
One of the things I enjoy most about this author's books are the way history is included in these mysteries. I love the give and take between The Spoon Sisters Anne and CC they complement each other and are two strong women that do not take no for an answer. The twists in this book were fun to follow along and definitely had me guessing who did it until the end. If you enjoy mystery with a bit of antiques and history this is the perfect series for you!
Be careful what you put on the Internet. You might be divulging more than you intended. That’s why I don’t blog until AFTER the trip! So I quickly guessed the How but not the who until the end :>( I enjoyed the trip and do recommend the book.
