Callan

I was trained to be a hunter. Growing up in the nation’s most infamous, violent cult, my job was simple. Track. Kill. Survive.

And that’s what I did… until our leader threatened to kill his own daughter.

Refusing to watch another senseless murder, I did what I was trained to do. I took his life. Then I claimed his land, and set every member free, including her. I only had one goal left. Find the sister I was told was dead.

But being a hunter in the woods is a far cry from tracking a woman in Miami Beach.

I didn’t find my sister.

I found my stepsister.

Callan is a full-length, standalone novel and is the 5th in final book in the Uncompromising Series.

It was sad to say goodbye, to all these amazing alphas. Sybil Bartel pretty much closed out this series with a bang

Callan was raised in the back hills of Florida on prison oops / Private compound by a psychopath and his cult (River Phoenix) since he was a small child.

Most people in their surrounding towns had heard rumors about some of what went on at River ranch , And given the opportunity Kendall had Fled and never planned on returning………. But unfortunately, when life deals you a different hand than what you want or need……. To best understand my meaning you’re going to have to go back and read André and Kendall’s story …….. So, this is where we originally had met Callan

Callan was forced to make his 1st kill at about 5, and over the years became the top hunter on the camp….. it might have taken him until his eleventh year to realize River Stephens was insane

After The compound was taken down by the FBI, with the help of Callan, he was Pretty much left completely alone on a good 50 to 80 acres …

When Callam found his birth certificate and realized that River Phoenix wasn’t his biological father he went in the hunt to find his biological father to find out why he let him be raised by the psychopath.

A few surprises once he had found his father, and wow Callan had shown us how strong and loyal of alpha he is, even though he is not accustomed to the world outside the ranch……. And he reminds me so much of Neil…… The quiet silent type

I believe later on that I will eventually read more books by this author I really enjoyed the banner that she is able to put into her tails

Oh my gosh! Callan was everything I was hoping for! I have been anticipating his book since we first got introduced to him in book 3 of this standalone series. He had a very small part, but he left a huge impact.

I've never wanted to see a side character get his own book more than I did for Callan. A big part of why is because of his upbringing. That upbringing made him unique in the Alpha world.

Callan was brought up in a religious cult that was run by a man who was at his core, evil. Callan was considered their best hunter, providing game for feeding the following. He's never had any schooling or much exposure to the outside world. He has learned to live by surviving the best way he could under the thumb of the leader. Just to be clear, this is in no way a religious book and religion is not prominent in this book.

The heroine of book 3 had escaped this cult with a bounty on her head put there by the cult leader. When she and Andre` came back to barter for her freedom, it was at that time when Callan had to make the decision to help bring down the cult so that she could be free. This then leads to Callan's story. In this book we get the aftermath of him adjusting to being free and running into the women he met a year ago who has never left his thoughts.

You can read this as a stand alone but I think you will appreciate Callan's character more if you were to read book 3 (Andre`) first. You will get a much better picture of the environment that Callan was raised in and will appreciate his way of thinking more.

One of the other things I love about this series is that the author has all the Hero's in the previous books make an appearance in each book. This group of men are growing and to see them have each others back in time of need makes me appreciate each book more. I am a fan!

I was beginning to wonder how I would ever be able to live without being on the receiving end of his total attention. I already craved the way he looked at me like he was the air I needed to breathe.
3.75 stars
This was another great book by Sybil Bartel and was very unique, in many ways, because of the super unusual hero. Callan was raised on a cult compound, basically, and only recently, at the age of 27, entered the real world, so the way he speaks, his understanding of regular society, etc. is all very different and unusual. He's so great though, it's just fantastic.

My one annoyance—because this could have been a 4 or 4.5-star read for me otherwise—was a random plot turn that took up like a third of the book and that I could have done without. I loved how their relationship was developing, and it was needless and stupid and I was sorely tempted to skim through it and just get to the other side.

The other aspects were really good though, I only wish the middle section had been better and lived up to the other parts.

The 5th book in The Uncompromising series, this is Callan's story. I must say I was really looking forward to this one to see just how Sybil would portray him and whether the storyline would do him any justice - I was hooked from the start and completely blown away by this!!

Callan was raised by River Phoenix and his cult since he was a small child. We met Callan in Andre's story. Kendall / Decima was also raised by the cult (she was also River's daughter), and Callan (then known as Hero) was charged with looking after her. Callan was the best Hunter in the cult, but knew that River was a madman, and didn't hesitate in helping take down the cult's compound and River himself when Kendall reappeared there after she escaped, knowing River wouldn't let her leave the compound again, alive.

Callan ended up with all the rights to the lands the cult owned after River's death. A chance meeting at the gas station with a girl had his mind in a whirl, he couldn't stop thinking about her. It was not until a year later when he was out in search of his sister that he met this girl again, and found out that she was in fact his stepsister.

Emily never saw the guy she met at the gas station again until the night he turned up at her house looking for his sister. She had never forgotten about him. The chemistry between them even after a year was so very tangible, it was plain for the rest of her family to see. But, as she just learned, he was her stepbrother, nothing could come of their attraction to each other.

This was a fabulous read!!! Callan is just awesome, I love him!! His whole manner and demeanor being so different due to being raised by the cult works so well in this storyline!! His mannerisms and quirks, he is just so Alpha, hot, sexy, possessive, but not in a douche bag way, in a way that really had me swooning and panting!!! He is damaged from his upbringing, but not broken, and its that vulnerability against the Alpha in him that really did it for me!! Emily was a great character also, she thought so little of herself, but was so very caring and innocent, yet very protective of those around her. Her courage and determination to stand up for innocent children really stands out in a particular part of this story, and I admire her for that!!

But its the chemistry and pure animal magnetism between her and Callan that really stood out, sizzling off the pages - this is a slow burn, and was pure torture at times, I really wanted it to get there a bit faster!! Some of the other characters from the series also appear in this story, which is a lovely added bonus. Highly recommended reading, a well deserved 5 star Cult Boy read!!

3.5 stars because I really liked the H. He's a stoic, taciturn, brave and a man with a strong moral code. I like how this translated into his stand with the man who fathered him. But the h - really, almost from the first, it was easy to see her wanting a man to 'tend' to her. Yes, she had reasons but still the H gives and gives and gives and all she ever does is take. She was physically and mentally lazy. The book is a well written adventure, but the h's character was a hard limit for me.

Hiya bessies!

How are you all?

So, it’s been years since I last read a Sybil Bartel book. And I got to say, I missed reading fast paced romance books, especially Bartel’s works.

If you’re new here in my blog, check out my other book reviews of her other books. Just search her name and you’ll see all my blog posts about her other series.

Anyway, let’s get started!

So, we have Callan in this fifth book of the series. I honestly needed a little bit of a refresher before I started reading this cause like I said, it has been years since I last read this series. 7 years to be exact.

That is why I had to read my earlier book reviews about this series, and I remembered Callan from Andre’s book.

Callan is a character that is not hard to like. He is transparent since he is brutally honest. He does not hide his feelings or opinions. He lays it out there and lets you feel whatever emotions you might feel until you also feel stupid (sometimes) for feeling it because even though he does not say it, he always has a point.

I just got to be honest, he does not have that much depth to his character for me. I mean, compared to the other Bartel men, Callan is pretty straightforward and not very complicated at all. Sometimes I think he’s borderline boring. He has no humor, no complexity.

Sure, he grew up in a complicated environment but that’s all there is to him. I did not feel any more personality in him.

He's not my very favorite Bartel men though. But just like all the Bartel men, he will do anything to get his girl. And just like all of the Bartlel men, I really like that about him.

Let's go to our female main character, Emily.

I got to say, I did not get Emily’s personality at first. Like what kind of person is she?

It turns out, along the way, I ended up relating to her. Like wtf.

She's studying a course she doesn’t even like, but she thinks it would give her a sure shot at a job. Like gurl, I feel you!! And then it turns out she even hates the lifestyle she’s having. She's living a life full of pretenses just so she can fit in with her friends and her sister.

Meeting Callan was like her big ass sign of what she really wants in life. And that is not studying nursing and going to the club. I mean, good for her though for figuring it out sooner rather than later.

She is a very brave female lead but she also has some bad decisions in this book. I mean, we all have those but why Emily?

Anyway, let’s go to the story.

Yo, bessies, I have to be completely honest. I have not read a very fast-paced romance book in a very long time and this book gave me whiplash after reading. I mean, I used to love very fast-paced romance books before but maybe the years of not reading such niche made my head spin a little at how fast it could actually go. Hahaha!

I'm not complaining. I'm just—i just want to say that out here so I can settle my thoughts and re-orient myself with fast-paced romance books.

The smut in this book though. Sorry but I was a bit sad about that. Really? It's not as many as the other books. I was looking forward to it and I was expecting a lot more chapters. But then the momentum of the plot must not be disrupted, so I understand too.

The action in this book is not the same from the earlier books. Considering who Callan is and where he grew up; he’s a hunter, that’s what he always says. I was expecting more action from his book. But there’s only a shootout and then boom.

Though going out of the country is an adventure. It reminded me of this Wattpad series written by a Filipina author which I loved since college. (I also loved Bartel’s books since college days.) The series is called Possessive Men series by C.C.

One thing I missed while reading this is the brotherhood of all the men in the book. Andre, Talon, Neil... man I missed them. I am so curious about their life after settling down.

So, to wrap this up, this was a good read. It's a good book to get out of a reading slump. I missed reading these kinds of books, so I think I’m gonna get me some more of Bartel’s books and devour them. I recommend this to the bessies who are looking for a quick romantic read.

If you love alpha males but you haven’t read any books by Sybil Bartel, then you are missing out. Nobody writes alphas quite like Miss Sybil does. While you can read this book as a standalone, it will make more sense if you have read the backstory that was given in Andre’s book.

Callan Anders grew up on a compound (cult) and has been a stranger to the outside world. Once the cult’s leader dies and the cult disbanded, Callan stays behind on the property he inherited. He has ventured out briefly to the outside world, and one year previously, while at the nearby gas station, he saw her. The brunette who has haunted his dreams ever since, the one he calls his angel. She’s the first female in his life that’s ever interacted with him and not wanted something from him – sex, food, protection.

He goes back there every month in the hope of seeing her again, but she’s never there, so he’s written their encounter off but has never forgotten her. He knows her name is Emily, but that’s it.

When the story starts in the present day, Callan has tracked down his biological father. He’s not interested in forming any sort of relationship with the man, whom he believes to have abandoned and walked out on him and his mother, but he wants answers – while cleaning out the compound in the aftermath of the events recounted at the beginning of the book, he discovers he has a twin sister he knew nothing about. Since his mother is long dead, he only has his father to turn to for answers.

When he turns up on Ted Anders’s doorstep, he’s in for shock – Emily is there. She’s one of Ted’s stepdaughters, Ted having married her mother several years ago. Callan is persuaded to stay for dinner by Emily, but only because he wants to be near her. He still feels the unexplainable attraction towards her. Things get awkward and he leaves, but not before making it clear to Emily that they will be seeing each other again.

Emily, for her part, is drawn to Callan like a magnet. She hasn’t forgotten the man she called the gas station sex god, either, and she’s shocked as hell when he shows up on her doorstep a year later. She keeps telling herself that nothing can happen between them because he’s her stepbrother, but he continues to remind her that they are not blood related and he has no relationship with the man who sired him, so there’s nothing standing in their way. After Callan kisses her for the first time, she’s lost.

Trouble strikes when Emily is dragged out to a club by her sister, Phoebe. Emily grabs a drink at the bar and is chatted up by some man, and she suddenly starts to feel woozy. She soon passes out, and the next thing she knows she wakes up in a shipping container.

Callan starts to worry when Emily does not respond to his texts, and with the help of Andre they ascertain she has been kidnapped by a known human sex trafficker. Emily and other girls are already on their way to Mexico by the time Callan, Andre, Neil and Talon track them down. After a frustrating wait and some double crossing, Callan and co. are able to rescue the girls – including a badly injured Emily, who fought back against her captors and paid for it – and get them out safely.

Once Emily is back on US soil, she is no longer prepared to fight her attraction to Callan any longer and they give in to the desire that has swirled around them since the moment they met. Callan is different to those raised outside the compound; he speaks bluntly and without worry about what others will think, but he is always honest.

I loved this book. I adored seeing the other men make cameos (as they all do with each other’s books) and I loved seeing Callan and Emily’s romance unfold before my eyes. I’m sad this series is over, but am happy to know a new one is coming! This book just proves why Sybil Bartel is one of my all-time favourite romance authors and why she’s now on auto buy; she could rewrite the phone book and I’d want to read it.

The moment readers got their first glimpse of Callan/Hero they knew he was someone special and someone whose story deserved to be told. With this story we get into the head of a former cult member as he sets forth to make a life on his own terms. Add in the sweet and sensual romance with a young woman that society might might deem taboo and readers will find this an unforgettable read.

Callan/Hero grew up in a cult under the thumb of a vicious leader. Callan was the hunter/the provider for their group and became a protector who watched over their members and lived by his own moral code that had him eventually overthrowing their leader. With the other members setting out on their own paths, he’s now ready to find his too and his first step is to find the sister he was told died. When he finds her he realizes she’s the woman he met a year ago who he has never forgotten. She became the beacon for what he wanted in his life and he’s determined to claim her. He doesn’t care that she’s his step-sister (through marriage) and as the story progressed readers won’t care either. Callan’s an intriguing character, through his speech and moral compass he redefines what makes a hero. He’s bold, not good at subtlety, but endearing nonetheless. There’s a bit of naïveté to him balanced with straightforwardness that made for an intriguing dichotomy. He’s a bit domineering too, but it’s not done out of a need to rule over another, but it instead comes from his need to protect. Growing up without love had me wanting to hug him and it’s exactly what Emily brings to his life now and is just one more reason to like her and root for their HEA.

Emily’s a very different character when compared to Callan. Where he’s larger than life, she’s timid and tends to fade into the background. Where her sister takes center stage, she’s content to stay in the wings. Her first meeting with Callan was life-altering, the second more so as it’s the first step on a sweet and sensual journey to HEA for them both. Emily holds herself back at first, scared of going against what others think is right, but being around Callan has her gaining strength. She accepts him wholeheartedly, imperfections and all, and it’s a delicious journey for us all that’s full of unexpected twists and turns. Emily breathes life into Callan’s existence and changed both of them for the better with a romance that pulls readers in every step of the way.

From the very first book in this series Ms. Bristol has crafted something unique with a group of heroes who set themselves apart. I enjoyed every glimpse we got throughout each book of previous heroes as it gave an update of their lives while creating a new kind of family. The romance here is a slow burn, but the burgeoning relationship between Callan and Emily is a richly rewarding one as is the evolution of these characters. Readers will find this an unforgettable read and the perfect time to start reading this series from the start!

All Callan knows is life on the compound, he is a hunter, a protector, and he lives up to every facet of his name... you give him trouble and he will give you a powerful battle. So much of his life has been dedicated to the cult he grew up in, but now that it has been dismantled and he has gained full control of the land, he has plans to finally have a life and family of his own. But in order to do that he needs a very vital part of that, a woman, and not just any woman, a woman who can accept him for the man that he is and one who can love him unconditionally. He is a direct man, who sometimes lacks subtlety, and who doesn't always abide by acceptable expectations of society... he is just a simple man who wants a family. When he sets out to find the sister he never knew he had, he finds so much more than he expected, he finds the one woman who has had a starring role in all his fantasies for so long, the beautiful girl who came to his aid at the gas station a few years ago. And now that he has found Emily again, he has no intentions of letting her slip away again!

In this newest offering from Ms. Bartel I found myself completely riveted by not only her expertly crafted words, but also her expertly drawn characters, you can definitely tell she put a lot of thought and care into creating these two. Callan was a multifaceted character sometimes showing a pure, innocent-like side, but then two pages later showing a dominant alpha side, so it was quite fascinating to watch him maneuver through the new world he found himself in. Emily was a strong and sure woman, who found herself many times struggling to understand her attraction to someone who was supposed to be a relative, only by marriage of course, but it made her teeter on the edge of right and wrong...ultimately deciding to follow her heart instead of her head. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it was action-packed, steamy, heartfelt, and a whole lot of fun to devour!! I am no stranger to this series, so I am familiar with the previous/secondary characters, and I have to say I appreciate, and wholeheartedly liked, the chance the author took with this new alpha character... he will certainly linger with me for a while. Highly recommend this one, it's an entertaining tale that is sure to leave you satisfied!!

I rarely think about the title of books. Honestly, if it was for me, I would be happy with just having an author name, maybe a series and a number. This time I thought nothing more, since the book was “only” the name of the male MC, which is rather common these days, but I was wrong. Honestly, it was the first time, a title “clicked” with me while reading. Callan gives so much about his name and names in particular. I really really liked the message I got with the book title.
The characters in this book blew me away. They had me hooked from page one and I skipped everything I had planned to just read. The last time that happened was WEEKS ago! I didn’t even get up to get coffee! Callan and Emily were strong characters, each in their own way and while Callan had not much development through the book it was great to see him acclimating to the normal world after growing up in a different world altogether. Emily however had a huge development. It was the eye opener her character needed in my opinion, because otherwise I would not have liked her as much. I really enjoyed to see her realizing that she doesn’t have to care about what’s normal, or expected or maybe the “grown-up” thing to do. She just did. And it was good.
The side characters were well developed as well, so good that I will go back to start this series with the first book and read everything I can about them.
The plot was well thought through and I really enjoyed that while the attraction was palpable through the whole book, the smutty scenes were kept to a minimum. They were not important, because the slow burn between the two characters was better than any bedroom scenes could have been.
Getting back to the characters I have to say one last thing: Callan was one of the best ex-cult persons I have read about. He kept his “coltishness” with him, without being too crazy. He accepted the new world out there, but he didn’t budge on things he found important (“breaking bread with someone”) and he didn’t care about what people might find odd. He did what he found right while still adapting to Emily’s needs and wishes, because he loved her. And that was awesome.
I recommend this book to everyone. Seriously. Read this book. And the series. You won’t regret it.

What a THRILLING read!

"She became a visual of everything I never knew I had wanted until that moment."

Callan 'Hero' Anders was raised in a brutal, religious cult. Nurtured as a hunter, his own humane and moral nature came to the fore in order to free himself from a twisted bondage. A chance meeting with a beautiful 'Angel' at a gas station sustains him and gives him hope. He just never expects to find her again in the least likely of places.

"This man wasn't just intriguing, he was a year-long slow-burn spiral of addiction."

Emily is the shy, reserved one in her family. Her sister has enough confidence and boldness for them both. She's never forgotten the gorgeous 'gas station god' she met a year ago and is shocked to find him suddenly on her doorstep. She's even more shocked and somewhat dismayed to find out that he's her long-lost stepbrother.

"My body didn't just react to her touch, my soul reached for her."

I've already said it, but it warrants repetition - this was a THRILLING read! I loved the premise of this story, the way it was written, and the wholly unexpected turn the plot took!

It was pretty much love at first sight. There was a lot of attraction and some regret in their first meeting. When they met again, I adored Callan's single-mindedness in his determination to make Emily his, in spite of their family dynamics. I loved his straightforward, direct, logical manner. He grew up without real love and affection, and I loved what Emily brought to his existence.

Emily was sweet and innocent, but she was also one hell of a tough cookie! She softened Callan's hard life and brought such warmth and comfort to it. They had a such a beautiful connection from their very first meeting. I adored how beautiful and precious Callan made her feel.

This novel was a sexy, tender, and really exciting read - the adventures and the trials they endured brought a whole different aspect to their story, and I really enjoyed seeing the other characters from the previous novels.

I love this author, the way she writes and her storylines. I think she's still somewhat underrated and undiscovered, and I really would love more people to read her stories because I've adored all the ones I've read so far.

This book overlaps with book three where the River Cult was disbanded.

Hero has grown up in this cult and is the best hunter on the compound. He lost his charge when they were attacked by the FBI and hasn't been interested in "tending" to any woman since. He is now aware of his true identity and knows that Callan is his real name.

Emily is a part time nanny and a student. She and her sister Phoebe were brought up by their single mother who is now remarried.

Callan first laid eyes on Emily at a gas station and was impressed by her demeanour. Being part of the cult, he couldn't take it further, but she has always been on his mind. A year later, after the downfall of the cult, he goes in search of a sister he didn't know existed. He comes face to face with his biological father and learns the hard truth about his sister. He is unable to comprehend how his father could have abandoned them in the hands of the evil cult leader.

The twist of fate here is rather uncanny. His attraction to Emily isn't deterred in the least even though she tries to reason with him. The crunch comes when Emily goes missing. He doesn't waste any time in enrolling André's and the Luna associates' help. Time is of essence if they want to rescue Emily from this horrible fate. Can they get to her before it's too late?

Callan is a strong and loyal alpha even though he is not accustomed to the world outside the cult. His vulnerability is rather endearing. He doesn't say much, but he doesn't miss anything either. Emily is innocent and lacks confidence in herself. I found her sister to be rather domineering and it's through her selfishness that Emily finds herself in this dire situation. I really like Callan's and Emily's story which captured my attention right from the start. A great storyline.

I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

⭐️⭐️ I’m sad......

One story consisting of parts from previous books put together and made to be a new book. So, I’ve kinda read this one before. Sadly.

A hero from the River Ranch cult. Check
A heroine who drinks herself stupid one time. Check
A serious hero not wasting time talking. Check
A virgin heroine almost sold in sex trafficking. Check
A hero who’s loaded without doing anything. Check
A heroine with terribly lousy friends (:sister). Check
A hero with skills greater than all the rest. Check

This had potential, and as previously stated by yours truly; the author can do no wrong (mostly). If I hadn’t read some of the other books, than this would probably be as good as any of them. But, this felt too familiar.

Nothing wrong about familiarity, but in this case it just got boring. I’ve only have one serious issue with this book. I’m just so freaking tired of reading about a girl acting so infuriatingly stupid with her girlfriends that she first excludes herself from the group, accepts a drink from a stranger and then never alerting anyone near her when she first realizes she’s slowly loosing consciousness. Like, come on!

Spoiler alert!

Plot:
The guy, Callan (or Hero), and the woman, Emily, meets briefly at a gas station. Six months later, he shows up at her mother’s house looking for his biological father which happens to be Emily’s stepfather. Never forgetting each other, they hit it off right away. Emily is conflicted considering he’s now suddenly her stepbrother, although not related. They are about to get over their “issue”, when Emily gets drugged while being out with her sister. Callan quickly hunts her down, kills her kidnapper and retrieves her safely home. They start up a relationship, she moves in with him and she’s pregnant five months later.

First book about someone's life after getting out of a 'cult' I've read.
In general, I've liked it. The first 3 chapters I was lije 'ok I don't know what's going on, what's happening in' but it was necessary too much action in just a few pages for the story.
Callan's way to be is marked by his past on the compound and it's shown perfectly. His sort of robotic way of talking, his behaviour, how he showed his emotions and his empathy. For me, they seemed cute and adorable at times, although in this current era there are things that a woman should not accept. He wasn't disrespectful to women and when he was sometimes he didn't notice he was because he thought how he was acting or what he was saying was normal) he apologised.
Emily is the perfect prototype of what an independent woman is known to be: works and studies, doesn't needs a man to be complete or to protect her, can speak for herself. Generally, her character was liked but when she doubted herself and the reassurance came from the male part was just a big contradiction. If she thinks she doesn't need a man to protect her why is she only reassured by one. That is my main problem with her and the book. I believe in strong characters that fight for themselves, even if sometimes they need a push.
Their chemistry was really good and developed in a good way during the book.
Other characters, I liked most of them, but Phoebe (her sister) was a bit insufferable.
Overall, it's a good book about a taboo topic, cult religions, so go check it out!!!

This book was VERY different from what I am used to by Sybil Bartel, but man oh man did I LOVE IT!
Callan, a man who grew up in a crazy relgious cult, while he did not change much through the book, he still did it for me. (I have a new book boyfriend guys! and this one is gonna stay with me for a while.... plus did you notice he did not utter one F*#$ through the entire book???? what????)
He was insane... legit... because of his upbringing... but he was so male and alpha I found myself swooning despite the crazy.
Emily, the girl no one noticed twice, self conscious and innocent, man I really liked her. She did a lot of growing in this book, and I love it when you can watch as characters grow. It was so fun to watch her grow into herself and become who she was always meant to be.
Let's talk about the possessive nature Callan showed over her. At first, not gonna lie, I was like umm heck no dude not cool, but as we got further into the book I realized that that was who he was. It was what he knew. He was doing it because he loved her. And boy did he love her.
The chemistry was OFF THE CHARTS burning on every page sizzling in a slow burn. Speaking of which, Sybil doesn't normally do slow burn.. and she wrote it well. I found myself almost begging the book to just hurry up with it already.
I loved the cameos of previous characters Especially that of Andrè... He is a total swoon.
I think this is my favorite yet in this series.

Sybil Bartel never disappoints. Ever. And Callan, (The Uncompromising Series Book 5) is one of the best military romances I’ve read in a looooooong time. Okay, since Bennett (The Uncompromising Series Book 4) released. And yes, my ovaries are still recovering. Thanks for asking.

You see, I’d been in a reading slump. To be fair, it was my own fault. I went too hard reading Bennett and suddenly the gazillion and one books left on my Kindle did absolutely nothing for me. Nothing forced me to stay awake past crazy o’clock because I was literally going to implode if I didn’t find out what happened between the hero and heroine.

Until Callan.

Sweet Lord, I want his babies. I don’t care if he never utters a contraction throughout the entire novel, I don’t care if he disregards social conventions surrounding step-siblings, I don’t care if he takes his sweet ass time in melting my iPad. I. Don’t. Care. Because somehow he straddles the fine line between vulnerability and alpha, and it is this which kept me turning the pages.

When was the last time you read a book where the hero murmurs ovulation-inducing dialogue? When was the last time he held a rifle while doing it? And when was the last time he went hunting, holding said rifle, while talking directly to your lady-eggs?

Exactly.

Sybil Bartel has done it again. She’s ruined me for all other alphas.

Best read this year, love Callan, love the series, love the author’s work - go no further - you have found your favourite book!

Callan OMGOSH- if you haven’t read Sybil’s books you are missing out! I read about 300 books a year - hers are the only ones I’ve read 4x back to back. Callan is the 5th book in the Uncompromising Series and trust me, you will be buying out her entire library after you’ve read a couple of chapters. After Callan, start at the beginning with Talon and Neil - you will fall in love with Talon I promise. Then, I know you’ll want to read the Thrust series. Sybil’s books are filled to the brim with constant action and thrills, suspense and jaw dropping romance 🤫 - I don’t know how she does it, but every single hot scene is unique and different and will make you melt. Each book is well written with a lots of amazing characters that are meticulously created and shared amongst the books. You will never be bored and her books are those you can not put down. These are my favourites as she is my favourite authors. Now, Callan, is a slightly different character then what we are used to. His heartbreaking background makes him not just in control, but he doesn’t resort to foul language or games, he says what he means and does what he says. Everyone woman who reads Callan wants one for their very own. Loved it and can not wait for the next one.

Gas Station God & His Gas Station Angel = An Exceptional Romance

I have loved every book in the Uncompromising Series. Each book is more exceptional than the last. With Callan, Sybil Bartel has surpassed my expectations. Each of the books can be read as stand alone. Callan is introduced in Andre's Story. The reader is taken on a bumpy & twisting journey to find love. Callan has romance, action, intriguing characters and scorching hot chemistry. This is an extraordinary & fascinating read.

Callan has only ever know River Ranch. It is a violent cult. He is has been raised to be a hunter. Callan was called Hero. He is an alpha male. Callan is very smart, but very quiet. He has eyes for one woman that he met at the gas station. His gas station angel, Emily. Callan goes looking for his twin sister after River, the cult leader is dead. Callan discovers that Emily is his stepsister. Both Emily and Callan are very attracted to each other. Callan is used to going after what he wants. Yum. Will Callan and Emily find their happily ever after? Will their family be okay with Callan and Emily being together?

I can't say enough about this wonderful book. It is a scrumptious read. I highly recommend Callan to anyone who loves alpha males and romance.

Overall Story - 5 Scrumptious Stars
Chemistry - 5 Stars
POV's - Alternating POV
Alpha Male - Yes
Recommend to Others - Hell Yes

So enjoyable! I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book since it is outside of my normal comfort zone. I don't read much to do with cults, and I generally stay away from step-brother romances. But there was something about this blurb that really drew me in, and I'm so glad I gave it a chance. This is the first book I have read in this series and while it may be enjoyed more if read in order, I thought it stood alone pretty well.

I really liked Callan. He has a very direct and straight forward approach to life that made him a great hero. He and Emily have a strong reaction to each other when they first meet, and it stays with them even though they don't see each other again for a year. They didn't even learn that they were step-siblings until their second meeting, so there really was no ick factor for me. I liked their connection, and this is what drew me into the story from the beginning. There was also some action to help keep you on your toes. The only part that was a little weird to me was the beginning of the book with Callan/Andre/Kendall, but it may not have felt as off to me if I had read earlier installments. Overall, an enjoyable read!

I need a Hero!

As I write this, I cannot get rid of Bonnie Tyler's voice in my head shouting. "I need a Hero". I do too! But, it's got to be Callan Anders. Okay, that reference just showed my age, but... what can I do? LOL If you don't know the song, search it and you'll get my point.

At this point, I must confess I'm an addict. I'm hooked on Sybil Bartel's drop-dead gorgeous Alphas, both from the Uncompromising and the Thrust series. I can't stop reading them LOL

Having said that, I'd point out that readers don't need to read Andre before reading Callan because the author did a great job introducing key information from one book in the other. However, I highly recommend you read the other, just because it's great.

Like in previous installments in the series, you'll get an action-packed page-turner, not for the faint of heart. Ms. Bartel's writing is superb, so be prepared to feel each kick as if the boots connected to your bones, and hear the bullets whizzing over your head as if you were at the scene. Don't worry, though. You'll get her trademark steamy scenes that will make you beg for more and the happily-ever-after that will melt your heart.

Callan was raised in a cult and when he could no longer handle what the leader was doing to it’s members he took matters into his own hands. He released the members into society and now owns the lands held by the cult. When he finds out that the sister he thought was deceased is alive he embarks on a mission to find her and is surprised to find out that she is actually his stepsister and the woman he had a chance encounter with a year earlier that he has never forgotten.

Emily has not forgotten the man she met either but to find out he is her stepbrother is confusing as her feelings for him are far from brotherly but she still wants him to be part of her life and family.

This author creates such amazing characters. Due to his upbringing Callan doesn’t hesitate to say what he is feeling and his possessive nature is hot! I loved the growth of Emily’s character as Callan helped her become the self-confident woman she was meant to be. This story has all the feels and keeps you enthralled until the last page.

My God... Callan is life!! And did you see the cover model? *Fans self... Please let me wipe the drool from my mouth!!

The fifth book in the Uncompromising series is everything. I’m still processing this book and in my feels because I didn’t want it to end.

Can I just say that... Callan is life! From the beginning to end - his actions, how he carried himself, his blunt straightforward alpha ways had me feeling some type of way and Emily the shy, sweet, naive women had me in my feels as well. I loved how she was meek at first, questioned things and didn’t think she was capable of loving someone and being loved by someone, but later came around and finally found her backbone and voice. You end up loving both of them and didn’t have ill feelings towards one or the other. Loved, loved, loved there story. And Talon... don’t even get me started on him! I loved him and his banter in the book. “Sister wife” and “Cult boy” is going to be stuck in my head from now.

This book was definitely a slowburn but so worth the wait. This is my new favorite book out of all Sybil’s books.

So here we are with Callan's story.  We did come across him earlier in the series, and he was a bit of an odd one.  That is explored in more detail here.

Because of Callan's nature, this book has a very different feel to the previous books in the series, which were more highly charged.  Here, the tone is much more matter of fact.  The relationship is much less frustrating with less unnecessary drama.

Don't get me wrong - this is not a boring book.  And at only 173 pages, it was a one sitting read.

Callan's straightforward approach is refreshing.  The insta element of this story is perhaps a little unexpected, given Emily's particular circumstances, but not jarring enough to detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.

A fine addition to the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Don't fall in love with your stepbrother.
Callan was saved from a life he never wanted, but had no choice. He meets this gorgeous lady at a gas station and never excepts to see her again. Until, he goes searching for his sister, when he runs across his gorgeous gas station lady. It's love at first sight with Emily when she meets the gas station god. A year later, she sees him again. Callan is on the search for his sister, Andrea. He never expected to see Emily again, at his father's house.

Callan is the perfect kind of alpha. He takes care of what he needs to. He's a man of not so many words. Callan looks at Emily like she is the only person the world. Emily is not like her sister, or so she says. She doesn't understand her value and how people think of her. As tough and rough as Callan is, he is so sweet and gentle with Emily. They are perfect for each other!

Luna is still the best

My favorite part of the story was all the guys getting together and executing a mission. Their personalities (that they completely lose in their individual stories) come out in full force and there is nothing hotter than action scenes with hot heroes!

I have to admit, Callan is just creepy af!!! Luna is my forever book boyfriend but usually there is some small tingling of like for some of the guys. I liked nothing about Callan. He was just too off putting for me and living on a compound where so much rape and death occurred. Nope! Just a no go for me.

But I am wishing the author would write a mission story for the guys. I love how their personalities come alive in battle.
