I am a lover of Great Danes, road cycling, and classic cars. I split my time between solitary literary pursuits, working with my designer wife on home restorations and supporting our son’s football careers.

I am a wanderer. My boys and lovely partner of more than three decades, have been dragged from one adventure to another. Much in the same way I was as a youth. I was born in Barotseland formerly part of Northern Rhodesia and now a reluctant part of Zambia. Through many countries in North America , the Orient and Europe I have now (temporarily) come to rest in Spain.

When wandering, a vast array of abilities becomes stowed in one’s baggage, my rumpled duffel bag is no different. From performing Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams, to teaching and heavy equipment operation, even to pig and dairy farms, high-end restaurants and period home renovation, all add spice to the dish that is me.
(One thinks too many chefs ruin the dish?)
Perhaps – it is what it is.

I dwell in possibility.

That is why I love to engage stories and explore what might ‘be’.

I hope you enjoy the journey, we are all in search of

'the great perhaps.'

I enjoyed this book very much. Taemane is a love story set in South Africa during the days of apartheid. Kate is the white daughter of the kind and noble owner of a diamond mine. Alex is the black son of the owner's now deceased partner. The two have grown up together, basically raised by Alex's mother Mary after the death of her friend Beth, at Kate's birth. Everthing is idyllic, until the return of Kate's older sister Claire. Ambitious, bigoted and jealous, Claire sets in motion circumstances which will change everyone's life forever.

I questioned the setting at first, but found it palatable, because the owner was a friend to the miners and gave them a good life, good pay and cared about them and their families. The character and area renderings were well done, and it was easy to picture the people and places in the story. As a result, I was drawn in and felt an emotional response to the happenings in the story. There is a good bit of editing that needs to be done, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five.

When the owner of a South African diamond mine dies, his two daughters, Kate and Claire, vie for control. The tension between the two women is ratcheted up, because of their personality differences, complicated by the racial tensions of the time.

Kate’s childhood sweetheart, Alex, is son of the native cook, and is determined to rid the mine of diamond thieves who have infiltrated the work crew. He is led to an inevitable confrontation with the leader of the gang, who has insinuated himself into Claire’s life. Bit by bit, with mounting tension, Kevin Farran introduces the reader to the reality and brutality of life in a society built on caste and race differences, and the power of love to persevere against almost insurmountable odds, in Taemane: Diamond, an uncompromising story of love, greed, and violence.

I received a free copy of this book. I give it four stars.

Another amazing book by this author. This is the second book which I've read by Kevin and I'm absolutely hooked. I received them both through the Vorachious readers website. It was a real page turner, full of action, although i was saddened by the end, i had to remind myself that it was a story! I love the way i feel that i have visited the countries involved.
