Does God predestine individuals to eternal life or to eternal death? Or is election to service? Does God choose people, places, and things to serve His purposes? What does the Bible say. Shawn Lazar looks at the key passages and defends the vocational view of election.
This is a truly terrible book. I don’t say that simply because I disagree with the author (though I certainly do). There are lots of books written from the “other side” that are very good, challenging and worth reading.
Not this one. It is full of exegetical and logical fallacies, profound misunderstandings of the biblical languages (and linguistics in general) and terrible exegesis. The author demonstrated no interest in going himself where the Scriptures go... but in twisting them to make them go his way.
Also, the book relies on lots of tired, cherry-picked, or obscure source material. I’m sure the proverbial choir will applaud this work. But it is not a serious work, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
This book was easy to read and understand and was loaded with clear bible interpretation and many citations from a wide range of scholars. I found it timely in my quest to understand election and grapple with my view and understanding of theology lens I see the Christian life through. I recommend especially to anyone searching for biblical answers to the questions one may have about their responsibility in kingdom service.
A simple, straightforward look at the theme of divine election in the Bible. This book gave me so much clarity on the topic and challenged me to read the Bible for what it really says and to interpret passages in context, not through a predetermined theological lens. I had so many "aha" moments while reading this very helpful book.
